Sonic, Tails and Elise dashed towards the back of the palace, when they came across a lavish swimming pool and jacuzzi… however, the pool was empty, and had a gaping hole in the center of it. The trio stared in awe at the hole, not expecting something like it to suddenly appear out of nowhere. A tremor, larger than the first, started to shake the earth beneath them, sending all three toppling to the ground. A red ooze started to emerge from the hole in the ground.
“What's going on?!” Elise shrieked, staring at the ooze in awe as it started to grow taller.
“Man, this is getting ugly!” Sonic added, not exactly being encouraging. By this point, the ooze had grown to a massive 15 feet high, and began to form into what looked like a mix of Perfect Chaos and Jay Lenno. “Man, it just keeps getting uglier and uglier, doesn't it?”
“Sonic, I wouldn't be joking if I were you…” Tails said with dismay, as he observed the monster, fully solidified. It let out a tremendous roar, which caused another earthquake worldwide. As the trio was still kneeling on the ground, the monster began to extend its arm, as if it was going to strike. Going on instinct alone, Sonic quickly grabbed Tails and the princess and using his signature speed, evaded the monster's oncoming attack. This kept up for three more strikes, then Sonic ran toward the front of the castle again.
“Alright guys, we need a strategy!” Sonic exclaimed, immediately shooting a look at tails.
“What are you looking at ME for?!” Tails shouted. “I cant come up with ALL of the plans you know!” While Tails was defending himself, Elise began to creep away from the others. Sonic noticed a few minutes later, having not listened to more than five words of what Tails had said.
“Oh, shoot!” Sonic exclaimed. “Where's Elise?!?!” Sonic got up and began to frantically run around the palace's perimeter, hollering for the princess as he went. Tails, out of the corner of his eye, saw the princess make her way for a garden hose. Starting to get ideas, he followed the princess slowly…
Meanwhile, Sonic was back at the pool, staring down this new, huge and fiery menace. He gritted his teeth and clenched a fist. Damn you… you took Elise, I'm gonna kill you! Sonic's eyes, heart and mind were all focused on one thing; kill this monster to get Elise back. He got into his Sonic Spin and charged straight at the monster, only to be burned on impact, having his attack get cancelled. He then revved up and started to run in high-velocity circles around the monster, making his signature Sonic Tornado. Also to no avail, as the monster still stood. He then hunched over, and took out a gold ring from the inside of his sock. He held it high, its glow blinding the monster. He then got into his light speed spin and began to charge the monster. Out of nowhere, however, he felt a force propel him faster, making his attack that much more powerful. In addition, this force not only neutralized the burning sensation he had when he made contact, but it seemed to have made the monster dissolve again. Sonic landed on his feet, as always, as the monster began to retreat from the center of the earth from whence it came. He looked up to the balcony, to see Tails and the princess squirting a garden hose from above.
Sometime later, the trio were walking through one of the palace's many corridors.
“I can't help but wonder,” Sonic began to ask, “Who got the idea to use water against that thing?” He flashed a quick look at the princess, who diverted his attention to Tails, who smiled proudly. “See lil' bud, I knew you had it in you!” Tails began to blush, as the princess started to look sadly to the ground, holding her right arm. Sonic noticed this, and put his arm around the princess and rested it on her left shoulder. “What's wrong Elise?”
The princess started to tear. “Sonic, there's something I've been keeping secret from you. Follow me.” As the trio headed down the corridor, she had them turn left into the next hall, as they approached a door, shining the brightest shade of gold Sonic and Tails had ever seen. The princess slowly reached for the handle, and started to turn the knob…
