The names that I've given Eggman's machines aren't their official names, so you have my permission to use them if you wish.

- The scene: the edge of Sunset Hill. Sonic and Tails land gently and safely, but

Tails collapses from exhaustion. -

Tails: Sonic, remind me never to fly that far again.

Sonic: How else are we going to get to the other regions?

Tails: I guess that's one of the reasons we need to find our friends.

Sonic: C'mon, Tails, we both know that Eggman's hot on the trail of the Chaos Emeralds. We gotta move quickly so we can get them back and out of his hands.

Tails: Right.

Sonic: I can sense one nearby. We're already pretty close.

Tails: But Sonic, I thought only Knuckles had that kind of power.

Sonic: After all of our past adventures over a short period of time, I've gotten more in tune with them. That's how I knew Eggman was gathering them earlier.

Tails: Um, ok. Let's go.

- Sonic and Tails begin walking around looking for the next Emerald. Sonic can't help but feel nostalgic here, but Tails soon spots the red Emerald lying on a strange patch of grass. -

Tails: There it is Sonic!

Sonic: Alright, one down. I'll get it.

- But the moment he steps on that patch of grass, it gives way, and Sonic falls down a long way. He shakes his head after hitting the ground. -

Sonic: Ow!

- Sonic grabs the red Emerald, which landed next to him. -

Sonic: Who set this up?

Knuckles: (appearing overhead) I got you now Egg - huh? Sonic?

Sonic: Good going, knucklehead.

Knuckles: What are you doing here?

Sonic: That's my line! What the hell are you doing off Angel Island? The Master Emerald needs more protection than ever right now.

Knuckles: FYI, I'm trying to get the Chaos Emeralds so I can reverse Eggman's dirty work. I knew he'd try to stop me, so after I found the red Emerald I set up this trap to catch him.

Tails: With a hole in the ground? He can simply grab it from his hover vehicle. Or he can have G-mel get it.

Knuckles: Who's G-mel?

Tails: That's right, we haven't told you yet.

Sonic: Get me outta here and I'll tell you about him.

- Knuckles finds a vine for Sonic to climb on, and he lowers it into the pit. Sonic is able to climb out easily. -

Knuckles: About G-mel?

Sonic: Another one of Eggman's creations, of course. He told me that as long as G-mel is connected to a Chaos Emerald, it'll just grow stronger and stronger.

- A rustle is heard in the bushes. -

Tails: What's that?

Knuckles: Keep your guard up.

- G-mel then pops out of the bushes, already in the middle of a lunge attack at Sonic. -

Sonic: Whoa!

- Sonic is able to evade, but G-mel can't stop and smashes into a tree. -

Knuckles: How idiotic. Eggman's lost his mind.

Sonic: Is that all it can do?

- G-mel turns around to answer Sonic's question. -

G-mel: No Sonic. I can do this too.

- G-mel then jumps up and spins rapidly at him. Sonic simply jumps to the side and spin kicks it in the back, sending it into the hole Knuckles built. A big "thud" is heard inside. -

Sonic: Not only is it a pathetic attacker, it has a pathetic life.

Knuckles: You can say that again.

- G-mel flies out of the hole, turns around, and calls into the trees. -

G-mel: DR. EGGMAN!!

- Some rumbling is heard in the forest. Eggman then appears in a giant mechanical sphere, but it gets stuck in Knuckles' trap. -

Sonic: Well, look what we have here.

Tails: Look who else has a pathetic life.

Knuckles: Hey, my trap worked after all.

- G-mel just shakes its head in disgust and slides into the side of the vehicle. -

Eggman: I don't believe it. I just don't believe it. Caught by a knucklehead.

Knuckles: It's embarrassing all right. Now take this!

- Knuckles jumps up on top of the mechanical sphere and swings a huge punch down at it. The force of his blow is enough to crack through the hull and make it explode. Knuckles jumps off before it does of course. -

Eggman: Not again…

Sonic: Really Eggman, you can make better machines than this. Stop playing around and give me the purple Emerald you have!

- Eggman shakes off the ashes he is covered in. -

Eggman: You little - I'll never give it up. Never! (flies off)

G-mel: (to Sonic) I wasn't even connected to the Emerald that long. You're going to pay Sonic! (flies off into the forest)

Tails: And we didn't even get to see that thing in action.

Sonic: Oh well. We have a Chaos Emerald at least.

Tails: We might be able to locate the other Emeralds more easily with it. Once we get near another one, the light coming out of ours will begin to dim.

Sonic: Just like in the X-Tornado you used to have, Tails.

Knuckles: Um, guys, less talk, more searching. I know there's another Emerald in an ocean base in another region close by. We have to cut through the jungle first.

Sonic: Alright! Let's hop to it!

- The group, following Knuckles' plan, cut through the forest and eventually find themselves at a different end of the region. Looking out they see a huge mass of water suspended in midair. -

Tails: Cool!

Sonic: (*sweat drop*) Oh great. Water. Lots of water.

Knuckles: Don't be chicken Sonic. Both of you, hop onto my back and I'll glide you across.

Sonic: If you say so.

- Sonic and Tails hop onto Knuckles' back, and Knuckles jumps out and begins to glide out to the ocean region. -
