Ch 5: The Proposal

"So, Sonic, you finally came to your senses, huh?" Knuckles commented, getting a grin from Sonic as a response.

"I'm just glad I saw her going to that mountain-top...if I hadn't I would never have been able to forgive myself..." Sonic replied. "I just pray that I have enough to buy this ring I have in mind..." Sonic suddenly spoke, getting Knuckles and Tails' attention almost simeltaneously.

"You're gonna propose!!" Tails proclaimed, getting tackled by Sonic hurridly.

"I don't wan't Amy or Rouge to know! I want this to remain a secret until I purchase the ring!" Sonic said demandingly, getting off of Tails and helping him to his feet.

"Its a secret kept!!" Tails said, putting his hand in the air as a vow of sorts.

"Alright, be back in a flash!" Sonic said with a grin as he bolted out the door toward the jewlery department. 'Please let it still be there...' Sonic prayed as he reached the place in less then a minute. When Sonic opened the door, he saw the one person he was hoping wouldn't be there: Amy.

When Amy turned around after making her purchase, Sonic ran faster then he had ever ran in his life, not wanting Amy to know that he had been there as well.

'Hmmmm...must've been the wind...' Amy convinced herself as she walked out the door with a wrapped box in her arms.

When Amy passed the alley, Sonic ran back into the store and went to buy the ring he had in mind. However, the ring he wanted to buy was slightly more then he had on him: about 50 rings short of what Sonic needed to purchase it. It had taken Sonic forever to get to what he had, and the price of the ring was 4000. The time he had spent on collecting them took many runs and many unsuccessful trips. Dissapointed, Sonic was about to leave the store but the voice of the cashier stopped him in his tracks.

"You're Sonic, right? I noticed that you were interested in that ring right there. Well, a couple friends of your put down a 50 ring deposit on it, a red echidna and an orange fox who had two tails...the strangest thing I've ever seen in my life to tell ya the truth!" The cashier said jokingly, but Sonic went wide-eyed as he knew exactly who the person was talking about.

'I'll have to thank them later...' Sonic said happily as he placed his rings on the counter, paid for the ring he wanted and had it wrapped in a box. Sonic left the store with his treasure in hand. He ran much slower then he usually did, since Amy was probably nearby and the fact that he didn't want to break the ring. 'I just know she's going to love it...at least, I hope so...' Sonic shuddered as he finished this statement, but that was quickly put out of the picture when he realized that this had to have been the most beautiful thing Amy had ever received; and the fact that it was from Sonic made it even more special, since he had not gotten Amy anything for years, mainly because he couldn't afford it, and also because of his refusal to acknowledge her love.

"Hey, Rouge!" Amy shouted as she closed the door behind her and placed her package on the table.

"Oh, hi, Amy! How was it? Did ya find anything pretty?" Rouge asked, getting a chair and sitting at the table as Amy grabbed a chair and started opening the package.

When Amy got done opening the box, what Rouge saw was the most beautiful ring she had seen in a very long time: the ring had a 24K golden band with seven different jewles on the center stone, which was made of pure diamond.

"The seven jewels represent the seven Chaos Emeralds! Pretty creative, huh?" Amy squealed with glee as she looked at for herself, knowing that Sonic would love it.

"Wow, Amy...that is the most beautiful ring ,or jewel for that matter, that I've seen in a long time...not since my youth have I ever seen anything so beautiful..." Rouge said, the honesty in her voice was evident even while she was looking at the ring.

"Thanks, Rouge! I just hope Sonic likes it...it took my savings to buy it...the price wasn't cheap either! The ring cost 3500 rings, which exactly what I had managed to collect just three months ago." Amy said, her eyes sparkled when she stared into the ring.

"Well, guys, I gotta say thank you!" Sonic said as he gave Knuckles and Tails 'high-fives'.

"Well, whats the ring look like, Sonic?" Knuckles asked with anxiousness in his voice.

"Hold on a second! I'll open the box!" Sonic said with a bit of laughter as he placed the box on the table. "I just hope she likes it..." Sonic said hopefully as he started opening the box. When Sonic pulled out the ring, Knuckles and Tails gasped when they saw it: the ring was made of 24K gold, the top was fitted with pink and emerald-green stones and the stones had been placed in the shape of a heart. "The emerald reminds me of her eyes and the pink reminds me of her beauty...you think she'll like it?" Sonic asked, getting two dropped jaws in response. 'I guess that answers my question!' Sonic laughed to himself as he placed the ring in a tiny box that it had come with.

Sonic put the box somewhere on his person and bolted over to Amy's house, a smile of anticipation and love in it. When Sonic got to the entrence to the doorstep, he saw the door open for him, and Amy was the one who had opened it.

"Sonic! Its you!!" Amy said with glee as she embraced Sonic and led him into the house, Rouge was inside and was keeping Amy's ring in a 'special place' so Sonic wouldn't find it.

"Amy, I have something to ask you-" Sonic started to speak but Amy wanted to get it in first.

"-Will you marry me, Sonic?" Amy asked, her eyes full of hope and anticipation over Sonic's answer.

"I will." Sonic said, tears starting to fall from his eyes, and he hadn't even gotten his ring out yet. "Amy, I love you, and I want to protect and help you for the rest of my life. There may be times when duty calls, but I will make sure I put my priorities in check so that we will have much more time to spend together!" Sonic said happily as he saw Amy motion for Rouge to get out the ring she had bought Sonic.

"Sonic...I hope you like it!" Amy squealed as she placed the box in Sonic's hand and watched as he opened it. What happened next was truly special...

"Its maginificant!" Sonic managed to say, his mind in awe at the rings beauty from every stone to the very ring itself. "Its beautiful..." Sonic said.

"It reminds me of you, Sonic, the stones signify the Chaos Emeralds!" Amy said with a giggle at the end, getting a bit of laughter out of Sonic.

"Wow...it is positively gorgeous..." Sonic was at a loss for words and said the first thing that came to his mind. 'Man, this ring...I hope my ring is going to make her happy...' Sonic suddenyl realized as he pulled the box out and handed it to Amy, who opened it with her eyes closed. Sonic crossed his fingers and prayed that she liked it.

Sonic saw Amy's reaction and it pretty much told it all. Amy had tears in her eyes and a smile so bright it would've put a bolt of lightning to shame.

"Sonic, I...I...I..................." Amy couldn't manage to utter the words she wanted to say, but it made little difference because her actions did the telling. "Sonic, I love you!!!" Amy said with tears falling freely from her eyes, not from saddness but from absolute joy. "Its the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my life!!" Amy said as she planted a big kiss on Sonic's lips, the two of them stayed like that for several minutes.

Meanwhile, Rouge had tears in her eyes, too, when she saw Amy's face, it made Rouge feel so good knowing that she helped her good friend get Sonic at last. 'Reminds me of Knuckles...' Rouge said happily as she suddenly remembered him. 'Knuckles...I wonder if he's gotten me anything...' Rouge curiously thought to herself as a knock could be heard on the door. Rouge answered it; Sonic and Amy were too caught up in the moment to even notice anything around them.

"She finally did it. Amy finally captured Sonic's heart..." Knuckles said, a tear started falling from his face as well.

'Sonic, my best friend...I'm so glad that you were my mentor! I don't think I could've eve had a better friend than Sonic...' Tails said, regretful about the fact that his adventuring days with Sonic were probably over. 'Oh well, he's got Amy, and thats what really matters to me now!' Tails thought as Knuckles and Rouge were holding hands and gazing into each others eyes. 'Alright, now this sucks...' Tails said annoyingly as he realized that he was the only one in the room who didn't have a partner.

Suddenly, as if it had yet to be answered, Amy shispered in Sonic's ear "I do."
