The Stage is Set Chapter 4: What Now?

"I can't believe that this is happening," I said. "Alright, what is Roland doing, anyway?"

"He's given dark powers to certain people in the alternate worlds," Fin replied. "The heroes there don't have the power to stand up to his darkness." Fin looked like he was gonna start crying, and I didn't want that so I asked him what I could do to help. "I need you to go to the other worlds to provide back-up to the heroes. You will need to confiscate the item that holds the dark powers that Roland handed out."

"Well, that sounds easy," I said. "Yeah, this'll be a piece of cake!" Fin took me to a wall filled with monitors. They simultaneously turned on and showed images of video game and anime characters.

"Most of these haven't seen any problems yet," he said, "but some are." He motioned to one that showed Sonic and Shadow trying to out-fight some robots.

"Shadow and Sonic should be able to take those out easily," I commented.

"Yes, but those robots have been powered up by Eggman and Roland. They are too much for those two to handle"

"Then don't you think that it's time I get to work?" I asked.

"Alright! I'll set the teleporter to send you there." With this he started hopping on different buttons, and then turned towards me. "Good luck, Zane."

/SONIC AND SHADOW/

The two hedgehogs were hiding in an alley, trying to form a plan to try to destroy the new, more powerful robots. "How could they get so powerful so quickly?" Sonic wondered out loud.

"Who cares," Shadow said. "We need to trash them! I don't care how powerful they get, I'm this world's Ultimate Lif-"

"Being an Ultimate Life-form doesn't mean you're invincible," Sonic interrupted. "The only thing that it has brought you is pain and a free trip through the earth's atmosphere!"

Shadow couldn't think up anything to say, so he took his usual position leaning on a wall and crossing his arms. Sonic was tried to find a logical reason as to how they were being beaten by Eggman. Suddenly, alarms started going off. "Shit, they found us!" Shadow yelled. Sonic and Shadow went into a defensive position to not get surprised by anymore robots. The robots began flocking in like flies, surrounding them completely.

"You ready, Shadow?" Sonic asked. Shadow nodded, then turned Super. Sonic did the same. They both jumped into the air to start an attack.

"Disappear!" Shadow cried out, activating the Chaos Spear. The attack knocked all the robots together in one big group.

"Sonic Wind!" Sonic activated his attack, sending the robots flying into the buildings. "Alright, Shadow, let's get outta here!"

"Chaos Control!"

/BACK WITH ME/

The teleporter dropped me off in the center of Station Square. I looked around and saw all the buildings ruined. Most of them were destroyed. Not even Chaos (the one from Sonic Adventure) had done this much damage in his perfect form! "So Eggman did this?" I noticed some robots spot me and run towards me. "Oh, so you wanna play, huh?" I ran towards one of them and pummeled it with a punching barrage. Then I stepped back and blasted it with a fireball. I was attacked from behind, and that made me angry. I turned and focused a lot of energy into a ball around me, and then expanded it. This obliterated the opposing robots, but left me a little tired. "Heh, that was easy!" I sat down, deciding that a rest would be good for me. 'Great, not even five minutes into my adventure and I'm already too tired to do anything.'

[That's your own fault, newbie,] Zane said. [You need to learn how to use your new powers sparingly. I can't do much of anything anymore, but I made the same mistake when I started out. You need to learn from my mistakes.]

[Quit being such an asshole, Zane,] I said.

More robots started to come, these carrying bigger weapons. "Oops," I said. 'Maybe blowing those ones up was a bad idea.' I didn't have the power to do anything, so I started running. 'It's a good thing Zane's form is fast,' I thought. The robots fell behind, and I ran into an open area. I decided that this would be a good place to rest, and I sat down. This place was demolished too, but not as bad as the other areas. I looked around, and found that the train station was right behind me. I heard a noise coming from inside, and then robots started running out. They spotted me and instantly took aim. I got up and jumped to the side as the green beams hit the spot and destroyed the concrete. "Why can't I find a safe spot to rest?!" I yelled as I ran up to a robot and punched it. The impact caused it to fly back into one of the other robots, causing the two to blow up. Using my fists wouldn't take as much energy as using my fire, so I destroyed the robots pretty easily. After trashing them, I figured sitting in front of the train station wouldn't be a good idea, so I began searching for a new place to hide. I started walking, looking for anyplace that looked promising. A little while latter, I heard some fighting up ahead, so I hid behind a conveniently placed rock to see who it was.

/KNUX AND TAILS/

Knuckles was putting all his might into every punch as the robots began to surround him, and Tails was flying around, putting bombs on them and then flying to safety as they exploded. They were doing pretty well, but there were just to many of the robots. One of them grabbed Tails by his tails as he was setting another bomb and threw him into Knuckles. The impact threw the two into a building, where they landed in a crumpled heap.

"What do we do now, Knuckles?" Tails asked.

"You can start by getting offa me," Knuckles replied, shoving Tails over. "Now, we need to get to safety and find Sonic. He'll know what to do."

"What about Chaos Control?" Tails asked. "Do you think you can pull another one off?"

"No," Knuckles replied. "I don't have the stamina those hedgehogs do. Plus, didn't that fake emerald break yet? I mean, we did get pounded pretty badly."

"My inventions are of the highest quality," Tails said defensively. "It'll take more than them to break it."

The two stopped talking, because they heard the sound of crunching metal and explosions from outside. The two looked out of the hole they made to see a glowing figure smash up a few robots and then blast the rest with fireballs.

"Hey, it looks like you got competition, Knux," Tails said before running off to greet the newcomer.

"Whatever," Knuckles muttered.

/BACK WITH ME...AGAIN/

I obliterated the last of the robots as Tails and Knuckles walked up to me. "Wow, that was awesome!" Tails exclaimed. "How did you do that?"

I felt too tired to answer him, so I sat down to rest. I still felt tired, and I didn't know how mush more I could take. I started thinking about how good a Senzu Bean would be right now, but I was in Sonic's world, not Goku's.

[Hey, maybe you should return to your form, alright?] Zane said. [Just focus on your normal form.

I did, and returned to my normal form. [Thanks, Zane,] I said. I layed back, feeling a little better.

"Whoa," Knux said. "How'd you do that?"

"Heh, I am a super hero,] I replied. "You know, blessed with super powers and all. And I'm here to help save you guys."

"Well, that's good," Tails said. "We need all the help we can get!"

"You alright, kid?" Knux asked.

"Peachy. Just a little tired. And hungry."

"Alright, then," he said. "Let's get going."

"Where?" I asked.

"Anywhere but here. I don't wanna be around when some more robots decide to show up."

I reluctantly got up and followed them. This soon became boring, so I caught up with Tails and walked beside him. "So what all happened here?" I asked.

He shook his head and whispered, "We need to be quiet until we reach the Tornado. After that we'll look for Sonic and Shadow."

I slowed back down to my normal walking pace and thought about how this adventure started. My friend Silas has always been a little...different, and he came to me saying he needed my help. I couldn't turn him down, he was one of my best friends. Then the red jewel came into my possesion, and Roland arrived. How's a ninth grader gonna handle all of this pressure? I've got the fate of countless worlds resting on my shoulders! We walked in silence a little farther, me getting more annoyed each second. We should find some robots and blow them up! Eggman will show himself sooner or later, he always does.

[Don't worry, Tim,] Zane said. [We'll get Roland and Eggman for what they've done!]

I decided not to answer because I thought I saw something move to our right. Knux must have seen the same thing, because he broke out in a full out run. Tails began to fly to keep up with him, and I stopped and looked around. I transformed, wanting to be on guard in case anything decided to attack. I heard a yell from up ahead. I turned toward the others and saw them laying in a pile on the ground. I started running over to them, but I was rammed from the side by something. I rolled across the ground, eventually ramming into a rock. The rock dug into me and cut through my flesh. Blood started pouring out of the wound, so I quickly focused my fire power into it, the wound instantly scabbed over. I became dizzy, and lost Zane's form. "Ow, what just hit me?" I asked weakly. I looked around for my attacker, and found him standing on a slab of rock.

"So you're the one Roland warned us about," he said. "You're not as strong as we were told." He leapt out of the shadows and revealed himself as Metal Sonic.

'Great,' I thought, 'I'm being made fun of by a toaster.'"I'm as strong as I need to be!" I said, trying to regain Zane's form.

[No good, Tim,] Zane said. [You're too tired to regain my form!]

[Great, now what do I do?!] I yelled.

[You can still use minimal fire energy,] he replied.

[Goodie.]

I formed fire around my fists and charged at Metal. But, without Zane's speed backing me up, I wasn't able to hit him. This ended up with me getting kicked in my side, which, in turn, broke open my wound.

"Foolish mortal," he said, walking over and kicked me again. Before he kicks me yet again, I heat up the wound again. He walks over and is about to crush my head under his foot like a little bug, but then I found myself sitting on top of a building.

I say the only thing that comes to me, "What the...?" I look to my left and see Shadow standing next to me looking down onto the ground below. I crawled over and looked down to see Super Sonic and Metal Sonic fighting.

"Are you alright?" Shadow asked. I nodded, standing up. "Good, we're gonna go and get the fox-boy and the red one. Then we'll get to safety and Sonic will meet up with us later." We warped down to where the other two were laying. He grabbed Tails and I grabbed Knuckles. "You ready?" he asked. I nodded and put my hand on his shoulder. He whipped out the green Chaos Emerald and yelled, "Chaos Control!" The land was moving past us at an enormous speed. We exited Chaos Control and landed in a large building. As I looked around, I noticed a large amount of weapons and ammo sitting around.

"Hey, Shadow?" I said while dragging Knuckles to a corner to put him out of the way. "How come you and Sonic don't use those?" I said, pointing to a bunch of beam weapons sitting in a corner.

"It's not our style," he said, leaning against a wall.

"Yeah, but it would be cool to see a couple of animals going Terminator on those robots!"

"Who's the Terminator?" he said, looking at me strangely.

I didn't answer him because a large energy surge flooded the room. I stood up, getting ready for a fight, when Shadow commented, "Relax, it's just Sonic's Chaos Control energy." Sure enough, Sonic tumbled out of Chaos Control. Unfortunately, it was three feet off the ground, and he dropped like a rock on his head.

"Hehehe, he's knocked out," I said.

"Hmph. Stupid faker," Shadow mumbled.
