Zane: That's right, buggers. I am in charge of the authors notes. And there's nothing anybody can do about that fact. In the story I'm kinda nice and everything, but outside of it I pretty much do whatever I want. Like this. (Shoots a fireball at a hobo.) Hahaha...Well, here's the next chapter. Have fun with it.

The Stage is Set Chapter Nine: Interesting Findings

"Alright, so who's up for a frontal assault?" Sonic asked. Only three hands went up: Keenan's, Jinn's, and mine.

"Think logically, Sonic," Rouge said. "None of us can stand up to those new robot's power. We'd be smoldering piles of ash within ten minutes."

"Yeah, and besides, we still have to find Shadow," Vector said. "We can't just go in there and blow stuff up and wish for a happy ending. We need to think this out."

Sonic closed his eyes and began to think. "Alright, I think I've got it. We'll split into two groups: the dstroying group and the recover group. The destroyer group will consist of all of the power formation people. You guys will be a distraction, and the recover group will enter in through one of the passages Charmy found. The recover group will consist of the speed and flyers. As soon as the recover group finds Shadow, we'll meet up with the destroyers and go to fight Eggman. This is it, people. The end is finally near, and it looks like we'll have a bright future after all."

Everyone agreed with Sonic's plan, and then we split up and went about our business. The plan would be put into action at dawn tomorrow.

I walked over to where Keenan was standing. I had some questions for him, like how he warped and fought. "Hey, Keenan?" He turned to me and was about to start apologizing to me, but I held up a hand and he stopped. "Forget about what happened. But I have a question for you. How were you able to warp throught the ground like you did?"

Keenan materialized a yellow Chaos Emerald. "Dr. Eggman made this for me. He powered it with another shiny stone, a pure black one."

"Hey, Keenan, can I borrow that for a little while?" I asked, pointing to the emerald. He nodded and handed it to me. 'Now we'll know if the Dark Emerald is like the other Chaos. Then we'll know if the Master Emerald will work on it or not.' I ran down one of the many hallways, searching for Tails. I looked in every room I passed, but I couldn't find him. As I was turning a corner, I ran into Rouge and Knuckles. Literally. After the three of us picked ourselves up, I asked the two if they had seen Tails.

"Yeah, he's in a room down that hallway," Knuckles said, pointing to the left.

"Thanks!" I said, running down the hallway.

/Knuckles and Rouge/

"I didn't see Tails over there," Rouge said.

"Neither did I, but I just proved that I'm not the only gullible one," he said, laughing a bit.

"You know he'll come close to killing you if he finds out, right?"

"Sounds like a good idea to me..."

/Back with me/

I ran down the hallway as fast as I could, searching every room as I passed. He wasn't in any of them, and the hallway curved back to the one that I had come from, and I could hear Rouge and Knuckles talking.

"I didn't see Tails over there," Rouge said.

"Neither did I, but I just proved that I'm not the only gullible one," he said, laughing a bit.

"You know he'll come close to killing you if he finds out, right?" Rouge said

"Sounds like a good idea to me," I said, walking up behind Knuckles and hitting him really hard on the head. It caused the little rodent to collapse, and I was about ready to kick him too, but Rouge stopped me.

"Hey, we're gonna need him later," she said. "But I can help you find Tails. Just hold on for a sec." She closed her eyes, and her ears began to twitch. After a few moments, she looked up. "He's in the hangar. Go down that hallway amd take a right instead of a left, and then keep going and he's in the twentieth door on your left." She then dragged Knuckles over to the side adn leaned him against a wall.

I ran, reaching my destination in five minutes. I walked inside the room and collapsed onto the floor, gasping for air. Tails must've heard me, because he walked up to me and asked me what was wrong. I held up Keenan's emerald. "This is Keenan's emerald, and he said that Eggman powered it with the Dark Emerald."

"Hmm..." Tails said. He took the emerald and then walked over to the Tornado. He began hooking wires from the computer to the emerald. "It'll take about an hour for it to fully scan the emerald's energy patterns. But, while you're here, I might as well give you these." He walked over to a desk and opened a drawer. I sat up as he brought me the item. "Here. These are replicas of Shadow's shoes, and they'll increase your running speed by a lot."

"Thanks," I said, taking off my shoes and putting the new shoes on. "But, why'd you give them to me, and not Sonic or someone else?"

"Because noone else knows how to use them properly, and since you already know a lot about this world, I thought you'd know how to use them."

"Well, I'm gonna go find my brother, and then I'm gonna go get some rest. Later, Tails," I said, walking out of the room. I walked down the hallway, once again, and headed for where I found Rouge and Knuckles. I found the two where I had left them, and as I walked up to them, Knuckles began cowering behind her. "Um, Rouge? I think that I may need your services again."

"Services?" Knuckles asked. "What were you doing while I was unconscious?"

"Aww, ain't that sweet? My Knuxie-poo is jealous." Rouge and I laughed, while Knux's face turned a deeper shade of red. "Don't worry, he just needs me to find someone else, right?"

"Yeah, could you find my brother?"

"Hold on..."

"He's over there," Knuckles said, pointing behind me.

I turned around, and saw him carrying Cream while being chased by Keenan. Keenan was about to pounce on Jinn, but at the last second Jinn flew up, and Keenan sailed through the air and into a wall. Jinn landed and set Cream on the ground. I walked up to them. "Heh, that was entertaining," I commented.

Jinn and Cream looked at me. "Is there something you need from me, Tim?"

I instantly smacked him. "You idiot, you weren't supposed to use my real name! Now what would happen if somehow Eggman heard you say that, got into our dimension, and took our mom hostage?!"

"I didn't know!" he cried.

"Just be more careful," I said. "Hey, Cream? Is there any spare rooms we could use to get some sleep?"

"Right this way," she said. We followed her to a room, where she layed some mats out on the ground for us to sleep on. "Sweet dreams," she said, walking out and shutting the door.

We layed down, and Jinn muttered something. "What'd you say?"

"I said sorry."

"Just forget about that, and try to get some sleep. You'll be going with Sonic tomorrow, and you'll need your sleep to keep up with him."

He rolled over and faced me. "What? How come I'm not going with you?"

"You're more speed or flying than you are power. But you're lucky. You get to see Shadow first. Now get to sleep." And within ten minutes we drifted off.

/Dream World/

I stood up, expecting this to happen. I was in the same place as the first dream I had, where Chaos was reincarnated by Roland. What I didn't expect was to have Kyle sitting right next to me.

"W-where are we?" he asked, standing up.

"Some sort of dream world. Every time I've fallen asleep in Sonic's world, something like this has happened."

"So, what happens?"

"Just watch."

The shaft of light illuminated the darkness, and Roland appeared. He began laughing.

"Hey, what happened to Jinn?!" Kyel demanded.

Roland continued laughing and pointed behind us. But instead of two near dead bodies, we found two beaten up bodies, struggling to stay on their feet. 'Whew,' I thought. 'Kyle won't have to go through seeing Jinn die.'

"Kyle, we didn't have the power to beat him," Jinn said. "But you might be able to! Take my remaining power!"

"You too, Tim," Zane said. Their bodies began to shimmer, and then flash brightly. They disappeared, their energy transfering to us.

"Wow, this power," Kyle said. "I didn't think that I'd have power like this without Jinn."

"Kyle, there's something more important than that," I said, pointing ahead.

"Woah!" he yelled, seeing Chaos. "W-who, or what, is that?!"

"That's Chaos, the Dark God," I said. "When he was alive he destroyed countless planets and beings. Now we have to stop him. C'mon!" We transformed. "Get ready to lose, Chaos!!"

"HAHAHAHAHA!! You foolish mortals think that you have a chance of beating me?!"

"No doubt," Kyle replied.

"Alright, Ky, combine your energy with mine!" I shot a beam of fire at Chaos, which hit him full force. Kyle then shot a beam of wind energy at him. Our energies combined, creating an all new attack.

"FIRESTORM!!" we both cried out, focusing all of our energy into the attack. The beam was absorbed into Chaos' skin, and he began crying out in extreme pain. Then the world went white...

/Sonic's World/

I jolted up, awakening from the dream, my brother doing the same. We just sat there for a few minutes, until Kyle finally broke the silence. "Okay, what just happened?"

Before I could respond, a voice came over an intercom speaker I hadn't noticed before. "Will Jinn and Zane Darkheart please report to the hangar? I repeat, will Jinn and Zane Darkheart please report to the hangar? That is all."

"C'mon, I think that Tails is done with the readings on Keenan's emerald." We walked out of the room and headed for the hangar. When we arrived, I noticed the lack of enthusiasm that I had saw when Sonic first arrived. "Hey, what's wrong?"

Tails spoke up. "It's the emerald. It isn't powered by Chaos Energy, but rather something similar to the energy living within every living being. The only thing I can think of calling it is Soul Energy."

I felt like my stomach formed a lot of knots. "Soul Energy?" 'That's what Roland and that new chick were talking about in my second dream.' (A/N: Go and read chapter 6 to find out what I'm talking about.)

"And that means that the Master Emerald won't stop it's powers," Knuckles added.

"But, what's Soul Energy?" Jinn asked.

"I don't know," Tails replied. "This type of energy hasn't been used since..."

"My time." We all turned to see that Tikal walked into the room. "I think that I may be able to fill you in on some things about Soul Energy."

END CHAPTER NINE

Zane: Well, there's chapter nine. Chapter ten hasn't been fully typed out yet, so you'll have to wait for it. Later, biznatches!

Jinn: You are such an idiot...

Zane: What the hell are you doing here?!

Jinn: Calling you an idiot. Now let's go so the chapter can end.

Zane: Whatever...
