Disclaimer: I do not own any Sonic characters. All I own is the story dangit! ^ ^

I would really like to thank all of the reviewers on this story. Without any motivation (or bags of candy) I would not be able to write this. Thank you so much. Oh yeah, there was a mistake in the last chapter. At the beginning I said that it was Chapter 1 when it was really chapter 2! Sorry for the mix up.

So, enough blabber from me! ON WITH THE STORY!

Chapter 3

"What do you mean?"

Shadow shook his head solemnly, looking at the other hedgehog with sad eyes.

"I don't remember… I just don't remember anything! Not my name, my past, I don't even remember who you are!"

"I'm Amy Rose. Amy Rose Hedgehog. We met about 5 weeks ago when I confused you for…" She trailed off momentarily, her heart breaking at the thought of the blue hog'. Her lips pursed in a tight lipped frown and her green eyes narrowed to tiny slits, indicating to Shadow that this was a touchy subject for her.

"You do not have to tell me what happened, Amy Rose Hedgehog. I can see that it disturbs you to think about it. Just telling me your name is enough." He smiled at her, bearing his sparkling white teeth. Amy looked at him, awestruck at the sincerity of his words.

He's changed so much since I last saw him… What happened to him?

"Thank you Shadow and please call me Amy. I hate being referred to by my full name."

"Okay…Amy."

Crimson eyes narrowed in concentration as Shadow stood up once more on wobbly legs, trying to steady himself on the lean appendages. It was hard for him to do so, however, with the intermittent pain that coursed through them.

Pain is only in the mind. If you focus on the pain you will feel it but it you choose to ignore it, it will cease to exist… He repeated these words in his mind like a mantra as he put one foot in front of the other in a pattern that resembled regular walking. His knees began to buckle as he approached his exit. In a desperate attempt to remain upright, his broken left arm shot out to grab onto something-anything that would aid him. The arm resisted this movement with a jolt of pain. The ache was so overwhelming he fell to the ground once more in an undignified heap, his left arm tucked under his body, breaking it even more than it was already. His legs were tangled with one another, as were his arms underneath him. He ached more than ever, excruciating twangs of anguish radiating throughout his body, paralyzing him. A twin pair of crystalline orbs appeared in the crevasses of his eyes, soon falling down his cheeks and leaving a wet trail in their wake. The hedgehog did not mind them at this particular moment but a constant nagging at the back of his mind indicated that he really did not shed tears over anything because it was a sign of weakness.

Where did that thought come from?

Not hesitating any longer, my sprung into action once more, lifting the hedgehog off the floor-much to his pained protests, and stet him on the futon, glaring at him with cold, almost vengeful eyes.

"What in the hell do you think you are doing?!" she screamed, folding her arms across her chest.

"I was leaving."

"Leaving?! LEAVING?! You cannot leave just yet, you are a total mess! Your ribs are bruised, your arm is broken and you have over 100 abrasions on that body of yours! I'm not allowing you to go anywhere until those wounds heal you got it?!"

Shadow wanted to protest but with the other hedgehog's scalding glare he dared not speak on the subject of leaving anymore, no matter how much he wanted to. She had tended to his wounds; that was enough for him. When he had first arrived at the house his mind indicated that this was a good place to stop and gather his strength, nothing more. Now this girl, this strangely compelling girl wanted him to stay there with her. He never really was that good with the opposite sex; the thought of being around one, even for a minute, scared him out of his wits. Besides, he couldn't pay her for her kindness. He had no money or any other worldly possessions. He did have his virginity and he definitely was not going to giver her that…

Amy began to set and wrap his broken arm in an old ACE bandage gut the hedgehog seemed oblivious to what was going on, which was a good thing. Setting an arm can be very painful…

(A.N.: The last sentence does not come from experience!)

The demon just looked up at the ceiling in a daze, brows furrowed, lips pursed in a thin line. He was obviously deep in thought.

About what? Amy wondered, looking deep into sanguine eyes. Is it about me?

Hopefully… A jolt ran through her body at this, why would she want him to think about her? She quickly dismissed the thought and began to tend to his many other wounds, some of which had been inflicted during one of his `meetings' with her hardwood floor…

Finally out of his self-induced trance, Shadow lifted his head, craning his neck to look around even though it pained him greatly to do so. The house was like any other, warm and cozy. The living room was very small but it was scarcely furnished which allowed a lot of room to move around. A pile of firewood lay next to the stone fireplace which seemed to dominate the entire room. A fire crackled and popped zealously, bright colors intertwining with each other and creating vivid hues of their own.

"So you're finally back in the `real world'!" Amy said, moving into his sight. She was dressed in her usual attire, a red and white halter dress and matching boots. Her rose colored quills seemed to take on luminous glow in the light the fire emitted. The light also bathed her features, accenting her bright emerald eyes and full lips.

"I'm sorry Amy. It was entirely rude of me to drift off like that."

"It was not rude of you to be deep in thought. I do it myself sometimes. But I do have a question, what were you thinking about?"

: "Things." He answered solemnly; uncomfortable with the thought of telling her what was on his mind.

"Oh." She sat down in a rocking chair next to the futon, staring at Shadow almost apologetically. "It was wrong of me to but into your thoughts. Please forgive me."

"It's Ok…" He grimaced as another twang of pain coursed through his already aching figure, throbbing uncontrollably and adding more physical agony to his overworked brain. The pink hedgehog noticed this immediately and pulled out a bottle of red wine from under the chair, handing it to Shadow who grasped it quickly with his right hand.

"I don't have any asprin or pain medication but I do have this. It may not taste that good but it might take some of the pain away."

Shadow nodded, resting the bottle on his abdomen and pulling the cork out of its slender neck with ease. He then held the bottle by the neck and turned it upside down, filling his open mouth with the bittersweet nectar. The taste was disgusting, much like sour milk mixed with vomit but the hedgehog did not care, as long as it would take the pain away. After taking a couple of gulps he turned it right side up, not being able to withstand the acid-like taste any longer. His chest heaved sharply, a burning sensation coursing from his esophagus to his stomach.

How can this make my pain go away?!

Tears began to flow from his eyes, going completely unnoticed by the agonized beast. Just when he thought he couldn't take it anymore the burning stopped, along with any other pain that was troubling him. It felt like he was riding on a cloud carried by angels, nothing could bother him. Before he could realize it, the bottle was empty, most of the wine resting peacefully in his body. Shadow smiled out of the blue, just suddenly feeling compelled to do so…

I'm drunk… aren't I?

Tee hee hee… Now What will happen to poor Shadow now that he's drunk? Will Amy have her way with him? 0_0 It shall all be revealed in the next chapter.(I'm very sorry if there is some typos, I typed this chapter really fast.) Tee hee hee… Now be a good person and leave me a review!
