Chapter 4

I'm drunk aren't I?

His actions did not go unnoticed, however. Amy smiled at him, watching the hedgehog drink himself to a pleasant stupor.

Looks like the pain is gone

"Feeling good Shadow?"

"Yeah!" he replied, his voice slurred and lethargic. He flexed his left hand, feeling absolutely no pain. The disgusting taste of the alcohol still remained fresh on his tongue but he didn't mind it; the feeling of happiness was well worth it. He turned his head towards he fireplace, noticing a television hidden in a dark corner near the fireplace. A small reflection of himself was visible through the screen.

"Hey Amy, cable do have you?"

She looked at him, stunned and very confused. "What?"

"I SAID, do you have cable?"

"Uh, yeah!"

"If you do not mind, would you turn the television on?"

"Sure." She grabbed the remote on the coffee table in front of her and turned the television on, completely forgetting about what would be on there.

(A.N.: The rest of the story will reveal only Amy's thoughts. If I were to reveal Shad's thoughts the whole suspense of the fic would be ruined! ^ ^)

A young white tiger appeared on the screen seated behind a desk, quietly shuffling through a stack of papers. She as dressed in a bright blue business suit that matched the color of her eyes.

"Hello, I am Suki Menomori and this is Channel 6, the top choice for today's news. The top story for today is: A clue has been found in the murders of the three GUN officers..."

Amy paled, looking over to Shadow, trying to sense a reaction on his face. There wasn't any.

"Investigators have found a fire ring at the scene of the third officer's murder. It has been reported that the ring belongs to Shadow the hedgehog, the prime suspect of all three murders…"

Shadow bolted upright, gaping at the screen, the alcohol immediately losing its effect on him. His picture can up on the television, crimson eyes narrowed, lips parted in a menacing snarl. Shadow's face contorted, almost matching the expression of the picture of himself on the screen.

"What in the hell do they have me on TV for?!"

"They think you killed three people Shadow." She quickly turned the television off, immediately sensing Shadow's rising indignation.

His rage soon dissipated, however, as he started to mutter under his breath, eyes still narrowed, breath coming out in shallow pants. "When did this happen?" he asked rather suspiciously. "When did I supposedly kill these people?"

Amy pondered this question for a minute. "Um, I would say that it was about two weeks ago." Her eyes narrowed, watching the dark hedgehog's every move. He seemed to be in deep thought-it almost seemed like he was trying to remember where he was then.

Well, a murder is something you don't forget easily.

"Shadow did you kill those people?"

He didn't answer right away, which rose her suspicion about his credibility. "Answer me Shadow! Did you kill them?!"

"NO!" he answered zealously, his expression quite inscrutable for Amy to interpret his emotion. That fact did not last long though. His usually stoic face hardened into a menacing snarl, eyes glittering madly like fiery coals, hands clenched into tight fists. "I do not kill. Killing is for the weak, a sign of insufficiency in the murder's conscience being. I have a heart therefore I do not and can not kill."

Amy tried to look in his eyes once more but she still could find no emotion in those fiery red orbs. A calm resolute remained in them, never changing for anything-not even the prospect of being labeled a murderer.

"Where were you then Shadow? What were you doing?"

"I do not kill."

"Tell me."

"I said I do not kill."

"I must know!"

"Didn't you fuckin' hear me the first time?! I said I DO NOT KILL!" By this time there was an emotion behind his eyes, fear. He looked absolutely petrified, the emotion boiling over in the form of tears, falling form his eyes in plentiful gushes. He had the look of a child, helpless and afraid. His hands began to tremble, as did the rest of the body.

He couldn't have done this. Amy thought with a frown, her eyes becoming entranced with his own. This is not the look of a killer. He looks so afraid… I have to take one fact into consideration though. Most murderers claim that they are innocent in the beginning…

Um, sorry this is a short chapter. I put a lot of thought into it though. I do have a question for all of you: Do you think he killed them??
