Sanctuary
Chapter Nine: And Though It May Be Wrong

"I've just decided I should."

Marron withdrew the trembling hand from his grasp. His breath catching, his stood and slipped past Gateau to rush up the stairs. Set now on his course, the blond would not be so easily dissuaded. In the second, just before the fear, there had been a look, a look that he had seen before.

Standing, Gateau followed Marron up the stairs. The door to his room was unlocked, and he entered without preamble. Marron was looking out the window, but he turned to face Gateau. The blond stepped closer to him, reaching out a hand to touch his face.

"Please," Marron almost begged. "Please don't."

His hand connected sharply with Gateau's cheek, gold eyes full of hurt and anger. He turned away sharply, walking away from the two of them to slam the back door of the house. He found Tira in the kitchen, putting the finishing touches on her sister's birthday cake but couldn't quite bring himself to worry her day with it. So instead he pulled out a chair from the table, using every bit of self-control he had to sling it across the room, and sat down.

Tira turned to look at him, but before she could say a word Gateau had burst through the door. His swimming trunks, still wet from the pool, dripped on the tiles. That was the only noise there was.

"Marron--"

"Don't," the boy commanded, staring hard at Gateau from his seat.

"But I--"

"No," Marron said, not willing to hear his excuses.

Thinking actions might have a better effect on his boyfriend's temper, Gateau stepped close to him and put a hand on his shoulder. It was shrugged off violently.

"You'd best go back to her."

"Marron, you know I didn't mean to--"

"I don't give a damn what you meant to do."

He stood and walked from the room. Gateau followed. Tira went outside to ask Chocolate exactly what had happened.

Tira sat alone in the stillness of the afternoon sifting through an old photo album. There were alot of pictures of the five of them together from those days: Carrot, Marron, Gateau, Chocolate, and herself. They had been happy times, but difficult in their own way. It seemed that teenage love had swam in all their minds in those days, couples and crushes had changed and shifted, sometimes moving outside their circle only to return, but mostly shifting between them.

She wondered where Carrot had been the afternoon Chocolate found out Gateau was already taken.

Marron closed the door too hard, stalked across the room, and laid down on his bed in the room he shared with is brother. One had across his eyes, he tried to slow his breathing and calm himself enough to think. He was given no time as the door opened and Gateau entered without so much as a knock. He took a seat on the edge of the bed and Marron debated pushing him off just for spite, but he didn't.

"Marron..."

The boy rolled onto his side, facing the wall.

"Please look at me."

"I don't want to look at you."

"Why not?"

No answer.

"I'm sorry."

He ran a hand over Marron's arm, pushing it under the sleeve of his t-shirt. The younger did not move. Gateau leant down to kiss his cheek, then his lips at an awkward angle. Marron stared at the wall, but he was persistent and eventually urged the boy onto his back. With a final kiss, Gateau left his lips to descend the length of his body. Marron watched the ceiling and wondered if he should forget even as Gateau tried to drive the thoughts from his mind.

Their lovemaking was soft and somber, but in the end he let Gateau hold him.

Short chapter, I know. Two reasons. One, I have four papers to write (damn this English major!) and I really don't have time to be working on this right now. Two, and more importantly, I need to inform you lovely readers who might be following this that

THE NEXT CHAPTER WILL BE RATED NC-17

I can no longer resist. It must be done. Please don't give up on this. I promise the plot and angst will go on too, but cutting off these scenes is driving me and my perverted little mind crazy.

Now, back to Coleridge and Johnson and the oh so pretty words I don't understand...
