Chihiro's Wish

DISCLAIMER: If I owned Spirited Away, I would have made a sequel. But there is no sequel (not yet at least), and I don't own this beautifully- written movie.

A girl stood in the doorway of the classroom. She held her head high but her hands were trembling.

"You must be Chihiro." A dimpled plump woman bowed. Chihiro smiled shyly and bowed in return. "I'm Mrs. Fuse, your teacher." The plump woman turned to the students. "Class, this is Chihiro."

On cue, the students responded, "Konnichiwa Chihiro." The teacher beamed and directed the new girl to an empty seat in the back of the class.

Chihiro sat down next to a girl her age with silky black hair and dark olive eyes. The girl smiled warmly at her.

"Hi Chihiro. I'm Hiromi." Chihiro smiled in return. "I'll show you around school if you want."

"Arigatou, that would be very kind of you."

~Lunch~

"Where did you say you were from?" Hiromi set a tray down next to Chihiro. "It's not very often we get a new student."

"Tokyo. My parents thought it would be calming to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city." Chihiro took a bite from her dumpling.

"That's neat. Do you miss your friends?"

"Somewhat. I still e- mail them." Chihiro suddenly thought of Haku. Blinking away tears, she added: "I wish I could see them though."

Hiromi patted her shoulder sympathetically, then snapped her fingers. "Hey, I have an idea!" She rummaged through her purse and produced two sheets of washi paper. Hiromi handed one piece to Chihiro and kept one for herself.

Chihiro turned the delicate piece of paper over in her hand. It was cream colored, and smooth to the touch.

Hiromi folded her own paper in half and directed Chihiro to do the same. "A crane has been a symbol of piece in Japan for hundreds of years. The legends say if you fold one-" She creased her paper and helped Chihiro. "The legends say if you fold one you can make one wish- and it will come true."

"Really?" Chihiro's hazel eyes lit up. Hiromi nodded.

"Really. Now hold the paper in your hands like so…" Within minutes, each girl had a delicate crane.

"Make a wish." Hiromi whispered. Chihiro closed her eyes and thought of a boy with charcoal hair and jade eyes like a dragon's.

"I wish I could see Haku again." She whispered.
