ZHING!
ZHING!

“Lee, how long are you gonna play Light Saber Tag with those holograms?” Melanee, the Diplo's newest passenger, asked Lieber out of irritation from seeing him swing his glowing, neon blue sword and erase countless static silhouettes. His game left the entire storage room of the lower deck utterly dark.

“Stop calling me `Lee!'” the little guy yelled back as he took out another static hologram, “Just leave me alone, Melanee! I'll keep playing until I feel tired!” Suddenly, he was surrounded by a mob of holograms. “Damn! You made me lose my concentration!”

“Pass it!” Melanee instructed with her open right hand up. With no other choice, except for forfeiting his score, Lieber passed the Light Saber to Melanee. Lieber had set the difficulty level to Ultra Hard, with the holograms attracted to his weapon. As the mob shifted over to Melanee, she brought the sword to her left, as though she was trying to sheath it. Once the holograms surrounded her, she shouted, “New high score!” Tapping the steel floor and shoving into a turn, she twisted her body until her spin was perfect and continuous. The belle looked like a pure-white tornado with a trailing river of gold at the top. She let her arm out farther, and—in less than five seconds—took out every hologram.

Melanee flipped her blond hair back and tossed the sword to Lieber. He looked down, into the little view window on the grip of the sword. His eyes bugged when he saw the score. “254/255 POINTS!?!” he freaked, “NOBODY on the Diplo, including the captain, has EVER gotten that high of a score, or even close to 240!”

“Then I guess I'm just better than you guys, huh?” Melanee asked cutely with her arms finger-locked behind her, winking at Lieber. That made Lieber blush. “Listen,” the girl said more seriously, “You need to get over what just happened.” Lieber sighed and turned his attention to the floor. “Maria shot you down! Move on! She's not interested in you!”

“Can't you have a bit more sympathy for me!?” Lieber yelled back. Within two seconds, Melanee's rush brought her no more than a foot into Lieber's discomfort zone.

“No.” SMACK! Melanee served the boy one straight to the face. “You need to accept life as it is, Lee—“

“—Lieber—!”

“—Whatever. My point is that you can't keep sugarcoating the bad stuff. You're fighting holograms in the storage room. How's that gonna change anything?”

“I'm not trying to—“

“—Then stop! If you're not playing Light Saber Tag to do something about it, other than blow off steam, then don't do anything at all! You're acting like a child!” Lieber went dead-silent. “Maria's no good for you anyway…” Melanee added.

“Huh?”

“I just don't like her. She's got this attitude, and with Fayt—“

“GRRR! I HATE that Fayt Leingod!”

Melanee cocked an eyebrow at Lieber. “Oh, I see what it is… A love… quadrilateral.” She thought for a few seconds. “I'll take care of Fayt and the captain. You just focus on getting over her. MY eyes are on Fayt, so maybe Maria will be open once he's taken.”

Lieber sighed again and said, “Okay… I'll just stay for one more game.”

Melanee nodded and playfully messed up Lieber's hair. Turning back to the door, she saw a tall man exit, almost as if he'd timed it. His hair closely matched Lieber's in color. {Was that Steeg?} Melanee wondered. She knew one thing, though: someone on the Diplo was being nosy, for some reason.
~~~
“Melanee!” Steeg called out to the singer as she emerged from her room. Melanee stopped and turned her head to the left to see Steeg walking up to her. “I gotta question to ask you,” Steeg told her, “It's about my little bro.”
“Oh… `Kay…?” the girl responded, “What about `im?”
Steeg scratched the back of his head, as if he was shy to ask his question. “Um… In your room?” he asked, pointing at Melanee's door. Melanee stared at him for a while, then nodded, her eyes locked onto his.
Once inside the singer's room, Steeg didn't make eye contact. Melanee sat on her bed, holding her one-piece skirt down until she could lean forward with her elbows on her knees. “Well?” she asked, feeling concerned about Lieber for some reason, “What's your question?” She impatiently tapped on the floor with her stylish, white boots.
“Well, uh… Is Lieber still upset about the captain's rejection of him?” Melanee nodded slowly, in a “Duh!” kind of way. Steeg nodded in thought. “I see…” he said in reaction. Melanee watched as the man's facial expression gained a slight sadness. “Is he… Will he keep trying?”
Melanee wasn't too sure about whether or not Lieber decided to give up on or continue with his chance with Maria, but she was sensing something in Steeg's question. It HAD to be synced with some emotion. Just to see where the question was going, she said, “He's very passionate about her and his hatred toward Fayt, so he might.”
Steeg nodded off again. His sadness became more evident to Melanee. “I… see…” he sighed, “Thanks, Mel. I just wanted to know if he was doin' alright. You're closer to him than I am, after all. I'm off now.” Melanee watched Steeg leave, picking up his pace once he was outside of the room.
“Sad…” she mumbled, analyzing the strange situation, “He didn't ASK me if Lieber was alright… Why's he sad? He said I'm closer to Lieber than he is… Wait a minute!”
Suddenly, the Diplo shook with tremendous force, and Marietta's voice came over the loudspeaker.
“ATTENTION, EVERYONE! THIS IS AN EMERGENCY SITUATION! WE ARE UNDER ATTACK BY THE CONVICTORS AND EXECUTIONERS! THERE IS ALSO ANOTHER GROUP THAT WE'VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE! THEY CALL THEMSELVES CONDEMNERS! ALL FIGHTERS, REPORT TO THE BRIDGE, AND STAY ALERT! WE'VE NO KNOWLEDGE OF THIS NEW GROUP'S LEVEL OF POWER!”
“That's my cue,” Melanee sighed, grabbing her microphone from under her pillow and weaving the plug and cord into the links of her silver bracelet, “Let's go!”
~~~
When Melanee, Steeg, and Lieber got to the bridge, they found Fayt and Maria knocked unconscious. It turned out that Fayt was walking down the hallway where the Diplo was first hit, and Maria tried to abuse her power and erase the enemies like she did with the Invisible.

Marietta panicked, “I'm trying to find a planet to land on, but…”

“What about Elicoor II?” Melanee suggested when she saw the Elicoorian Galactic Map on the far-right screen, “We could get there in less than 3 hours if we go now.”

“Right,” Marietta said in reaction, “I'll get onto that.” She hurried for her computer panel and moved the Diplo into the Elicoorian galaxy.

“Once we land, we'll figure out how to deal with those things that attacked us,” Melanee brought up to the brothers, “Until Maria wakes up, I'm the captain!” They simply nodded.
~~~
“Well, THAT was a nice landing, Marietta,” Melanee complained, rubbing her butt from the crash landing.
“Sorry,” Marietta said apologetically, “The Diplo's energy source ran out of steam.”
Sand blew about the foursome once they stepped out of the crashed ship. Melanee ordered the rest of the crew to repair the ship while they took Fayt and Maria to a clinic of some sort, since the medical equipment was totaled. “Where the hell are we, anyway?”
Marietta pulled up a holographic computer and tapped away. “It appears like we've landed in the middle of the Mosel Dunes,” she reported, “There are signs of civilization just east of here.”
“There's our direction of travel, guys!” Melanee directed, “Grab those two and let's go!” To her and the other three's surprise, two Convictors and one of the new Condemners fell around them from the sky. The Condemners looked like double-sized, meaner-looking, laser-winged Proclaimers. “Great! An ambush!” Melanee was pissed about it, but there was nothing to do except fight. “You guys ready?”
Marietta tapped on the holographic keyboard and conjured up a gun-like CD Generator in her left grasp. She dropped the computer hologram and switched her strange gadget on. “I'm ready to burn these guys!” she said energetically.
Lieber drew his Light Saber from the charger-scabbard at his waist. “I'll tear `em apart!” he said with a mischievous smirk upon his face.
Steeg slung his Photon Lasers around his middle fingers and pointed them at the enemies. “I'm gonna blast them away!” he said with a sexy grin.
Melanee tapped on her microphone head and got into her lean-back battle stance. (In a one-piece skirt! Holy cheese!) “Good, cuz I'm ready to put the `Pop!' in `pop star!' Alright, let's get `em, team!”
Lieber and Marietta dashed left, Steeg right, and Melanee forward, passing the Condemner. One Convictor turned to Lieber and waved its arms wildly before it. With its helium-affected voice, the foreign being shouted, “Thunder Flare!”
“No, you don't!” Steeg yelled in reaction to the cast symbol, “Haley's Comet!” After pulling the charge-up latches at the tops of his guns, he pointed straight at the Convictor that just cast and fired two stars that spiraled into a double helix and fused together to create a sizable comet. The comet smashed into the Convictor, putting a halt to the casting at just the right time. “Gotcha'!” he celebrated [prematurely].
“Why don't you analyze carefully before messing with us?” Marietta asked the enemies, “Here's MY data! Take a look!” She pulled the trigger immediately and removed a disc once the generation was complete. Focusing on the disc, she imbued it with her body energy, then Frisbee-flung it at the same Convictor. “There! Razor Disc!” The CD whizzed through the air and cut cleanly through the Convictor.
“How regrettable!” the extra-cosmic being said in response, conjuring a ripping tornado with its flailing arms.
WHACK!
Melanee knocked the Convictor upside the head with the tossing of her microphone. The tornado conveniently tossed the microphone back to her. With a nice catch, she returned to her battle stance. “Mike check! One, two…” She tapped the microphone head before her and created a loud screech. “Yeah! Feedback!” The screech pierced through the enemy and vanquished it. “Two more to go!”
“I've got the other Convictor!” Lieber announced, dashing for his target. His Light Saber changed from neon blue to eerie green. “Now! Scorpio Injection!” Sticking his saber into the Convictor inflicted nasty toxins upon it.
“I'll keep it in place,” Steeg said, changing energy packs for his guns. He inserted two packs of luminous, gold light and closed the energy pack cribs. After pulling the charge-up latches, “Planetary Rings!” Steeg fired, releasing two thin but sturdy rings that bound the Convictor. With the poison taking care of it, all that was left was the slow but lethal Condemner.
“Let's get rid of this one together, Lee—!”
“—Stop calling me `Lee—!`”
“—Whatever! Ready?”
Lieber charged at the newer enemy, but stepped to the side to avoid the dangerous seraph's X-Beam. “Holy shit!” he exclaimed, taking a spin to regain his balance, “Hah! Now, here's some comin' atcha! Capricorn Charge!” Abruptly, Lieber bashed into the Condemner.
“My turn!” Melanee insisted, “Delta-A! Make it 300%! Amplification!” She squeezed the mike in her hand and mentally jacked up the output volume. Flashing her left hand at the enemy and bringing the mike up to her lips, she blared, “TAKE SOME OF THIS!” Massive, visible sound waves rippled through the air from her bracelet, through which her microphone cord was weaved. Troublingly, the Condemner seemed unfazed by the attack. “What!?” Melanee exclaimed, “Don't tell me that this thing's immune to sound!” She stopped running when she noticed the Condemner hovering toward her. Melanee raised her Star Guard Triple-A just in time. The Condemner bounced off of her guard field and took hits from the stars that the field scattered. “Damn it! I'm useless here!”
“I'll help out!” Marietta proclaimed, readying her CD Generator. She pressed a few buttons on the little side panel of her gadget and pulled a DVD out. “Watch THIS! No, really!” she instructed the enemy, tossing the disc at it. The disc exploded in the enemy's face, sending it into Chaos as random images popped into its mind.
“NICE one, Marietta!” Melanee complimented, giving the Diplo's main operator a high-five.
“I did what I could, `Captain,'” Marietta winked at Melanee, whose smile turned into a jaw-drop.
“I LIKE this girl,” she announced to the guys, pointing at the operator, proud to have been called “Captain” seriously, “SHE'S got a good head on HER shoulders!” Marietta laughed at Melanee's reaction. She turned back to Marietta. “Don't let Maria hear you say that again.” Marietta laughed again, and the two returned to the fight.
“What next, `Captain?'” Steeg asked Melanee.
Melanee felt so proud for nothing, and she knew it. “Alright, here's the plan!” she declared, “Everyone throw your ice attacks and freeze that thing! It's putting up a good fight, so let's try a killing blow. I'll put in every wind I've got and pitch my mike at it once it's frozen. Then, if the Convictor's still alive—“
“—Thou show no penitence!” The Condemner returned to sanity when the team was in mid-huddle.
“Damn! That was a quick Chaotic state!” Melanee yelled out of anger, “Everyone, ice!”
The others nodded. Marietta tapped on the side panel of her CD Generator and transferred the ice in her imagination into her CDs. “iceTunes!” she shouted, flicking disc after disc, each one emitting music notes coated with ice. (FYI: IceTunes = iTunes) The nine-disc attack only hurt the Condemner.
Lieber chuckled mischievously, running his left hand along the now icy-blue light of his Light Saber. “Let's do this right, Zodiac signs!” he said to the weapon, “Pisces Jump!” With a good dash toward the Condemner, Lieber went for a jump over it, but rolled in midair and performed an aerial somersault with his Light Saber pointed straight upward. In turn, he [lazily] slashed the Condemner thrice from overhead. However, the attack didn't freeze the enemy.
“Steeg! Let's use our attacks together!” Melanee suggested.
Steeg turned to her, confused. “Your attack failed last time, remember?” he tried reminding.
“Never said I was gonna use sound,” she replied, being slick… like ice (I'm retarded…), “I know Common Attack Symbols.”
“Oh, gotcha!”
Melanee raised her left hand and began singing into her mike.
“Iota-Sigma-Epsilon, Nu-Epsilon-Epsilon-Delta-Lambda-Epsilon-Sigma…”
Meanwhile, Steeg switched his gold energy packs with icy-blue and stone-grey ones. He pulled the charge-up latches back and aimed, waiting for Melanee to cast her symbol.
Melanee dropped her hand and cast her symbol. “Ice Needles!”
Steeg gave the enemy the middle finger and fired. “Saturn Storm!” (A/N: I added this…)
The Ice Needles added effectiveness to Steeg's Saturn Storm, an attack that uses the same components that are found in the rings of Saturn (ice, rock, and dust) and fires them. The attack would've crushed the Condemner, but the rocks hit before the ice did. Fortunately, their combination did the trick.
“No big deal, now,” Melanee sighed with an accompanying yawn. She motioned into a baseball-pitching stance with her microphone. With her best aim and her every wind in her attack—as she'd claimed she would put—and pitched her mike straight at the Condemner. From a mile away could one hear the chilling Crash! The Condemner faded away to the strength of Melanee's pitch. Behind them, Melanee and Steeg heard the helium-affected scream of the Convictor as the poison finally took its existence.
Peppita: Don't quit reading now! There's much, MUCH more to happen in this FanFic. For spoilers, Steeg and Lieber get close to ****ing, and two other OCs and another MC make special appearances: one OC outside of Surferio, and the other OC and MC in Peterny, but you'll read about those two in Chapter 3. (I'll clue you in on the characters: This author's Gaia personality is one, and a character whose profile this author posted in the “Share your Original Characters” thread in the Official Star Ocean: Till the End of Time Guild is the other. The MC is one of the OCs' big sister.)
If you don't know this:
OC = original character (Melanee Faylight [GO, girl!])
