The Fall
Chapter 1- The Felucian Betrayal
“General Bly?” The blue skinned Twi'lek female asked as blaster fire guttered out in the distance. They had been engaged all day and the sounds of the gunfire stopping was not a good sign. It could be an ambush.
“Yes ma'am.” The accented mono tone replied.
Deadly hazel eyes narrowed. “It has gotten too quiet.” She brushed her fingers over her light saber as menacing feeling touched her mind.
“No. It hasn't.” The clone trooper spoke out.
Aayla Secura spun around her lightsaber extending. The Force had been awry to her senses immediately. She had just barely blocked Bly's shot. But now the rest of the squad had their weapons pointed at her. She knew that she could defend herself. But she would still die. She prepared for the inevitable and raised her saber.
A blaster's voice rang out and Bly fell with the center of his helmet sparking. She watched in surprise and fright as the dead man fell.
Shots rang out and more of the body guard dropped. A single trooper fired his weapon at her.
“Aayla!” A man dropped in front of her and a purple lightsaber blocked the shot and swung in a wide sweep. The trooper let out a cut off scream as the saber cut him in two. The man spun his weapon expertly and blocked shots and moved in on the doomed men.
The man killed the soldiers with analytical strokes of his light saber, almost as if he was trying to memorize how each man would die. When the last man fell missing an arm, a hand, and a head he stopped in perfect fighting form.
Aayla examined her rescuer as his lightsaber retracted. He was slightly taller than her and his head was topped by short dirty blond hair. His form was clothed in black boots, black trousers, a heavy blaster pistol was on his thigh, and he wore a dark grey jacket.
He turned around and his blue eyes met hers. She saw his features and she knew him. His name was Bane Atammar. The feelings he incurred within her caused much conflict.
She did not turn off her saber. “Thank you.” She would be polite. He had just saved her life.
He nodded and motioned to her. “It's time to go.”
“I'm not leaving.” She looked down at the dead traitors. The sounds of the approaching Clone troopers came through the foliage. “And not with you by any means.”
He grabbed her arm and began dragging her along behind him her eyes widened at the abrasive movement. “Listen we need to leave now.”
She yanked her arm back. “I'm not going with you. You are a traitor.”
He spun around. “I know you don't trust me but if you don't try to.” he looked towards the sounds of the Clone army. “Then you will die. I won't let that happen.”
“What is going on?” She did not trust him, or had a hard time doing so. Bane Atammar had been a Jedi Knight, a great one at that. The two of them had known each other and had gotten close when they had conversed, she had felt something with him that no other sentient being had ever possessed with her. With out warning one day he killed another Jedi, ran away from his master, the Jedi Order, her, and had been missing ever since. She had very good reasons for not trusting him.
The man grabbed her again. “Aayla I don't have time to explain we have to leave now.” She resisted by pulling back.
An explosion hit near them throwing Felucian shrubbery every where. She was being hunted by the army she had once commanded. She had no other choice but to go with Bane. She yanked her arm out of his grip, wiped her self off, and spoke flatly.
“I will leave with you because there does not appear to be any other way for my survival.”
Bane sighed. “That's fine with me so long as you start running.”
So they ran. Bane led them on a twisted path up a hill covered in jungle, both of their steps amazingly quick and graceful thanks to their mastery in the arts of the Force. They were half way up when explosions began slamming in around them throwing debris through the air.
Aayla leapt to a branch high in a tree and flew from the tree just as it exploded. The artillery batteries she had once directed against the Separatist army were now firing on her. She would contemplate the betrayal later. She landed in a shallow river with a splash and began to run as Bane came up behind her thumbing a communicator.
“Hadda we need that extraction, now!”
It crackled and a male voice responded. “What the hell did you do? You have an entire army chasing you!”
Bane yelled. “This is not the time Hadda! Get down here now!”
Aayla watched an inner-stellar freighter space ship fly out of the clouds. The cockpit was situated on the front, top, center of the craft dual heavy blast cannons took up the front armory. It was a well designed craft obviously made for heavy use and long voyages. A long cord was sweeping out of the bottom hitting the treetops.
“Hadda you have to bring it closer dammit!” Bane yelled as a bolt went off next to him.
“I cant, they are already chasing us. Get higher up.”
At those words Aayla immediately jumped to a branch and went higher. Survival was necessary. The sunlight flickered on her cerulean skin as she flew from branch to branch chasing the cord. She seemed to be running on the treetops.
Bane was close behind her. “Get to the cord Aayla! Just get to the ship.” He leapt to the next tree and in a blur went to the top.
Aayla jumped just in time to grab the cord. She twisted it around her arm and began pulling her self up. A jump on the cable from above caused her to spin around crazily and her hands to hold on to the cord to point that they ached. She looked down and saw the hill she had just ran up. It was smoking and on fire from the heavy guns fire. Clone troopers on speeders were dodging up the hill in pursuit of them and in the distance she could see several full regiments moving forward as support.
Down below Bane had engaged troopers on speeders and was hopping between them dispatching their pilots. The final one rode right over a swell from an artillery blast. It sent Bane soaring through the air into the tops of the trees. He began to leap with out faltering.
She saw Bane leap from tree to tree. If he didn't jump up soon he would be killed or captured. He had come to the end of the hill. It ended in at a jagged ninety degree angle. He would fall off and tumble hundreds of feet to a very certain death. Yet as he came to the last tree he did not hesitate. The man's form leapt out into open air and Aayla wanted to shout at him. But instead she held her tongue and watched with a somber attitude.
Bane flew through the air and snagged the cord by a hand. The weight caused the cord snap and Aayla spun about holding on for dear life. Is he insane!? He could have killed us both! The cord quickly began to be retracted upwards and as Aayla watched the lower hatch open to bring them in to the belly of the ship she could not help but wonder what Bane was about to get her into.
Moments later within the ship Mistress
“Hadda get us the hell out of here!” Bane yelled as he ran up from the hold.
“I've been trying!” A male voice yelled back.
Aayla ran behind him as the ship's gravity system kept them centered. She followed Bane through the corridors to the cockpit.
It was snug with two pilot chairs and a third navigational seat. A human with red hair sat behind the pilot controls his face was determined.
“Give me an update.” Bane landed in the empty seat and began flipping switches.
“We have Republic fighters closing in fast and if we don't get out of the atmosphere quick we won't be able to get to hyper space. Oh yea, they hit us earlier when we were picking you up.” He said as Aayla sat in the third seat and observed the unorthodox pilots battle with their ship.
“So another normal day, huh?” Bane said sarcastically as he thumbed an inner ship communicator. “Tiv how bad is the damage?”
“I can hold her together Bane; that is if they don't hit us.” A female said.
Bane growled as he grabbed the throttle. “All we have to do is outrun them.”
Hadda snorted. “Easier said than done.” He added after a second of white-knuckle piloting. “Thanks for bringing the entire Republic Fleet's force down on us Bane. It's being hugely appreciated.”
“Hadda?” Bane said pushing the throttle forward. “Shut up.”
The ship shot through the clouds and as they entered the atmosphere and could visibly see stars. All within the cockpit seemed to lean forward aching to break free of Felucia. The ship rocked as another blast hit it.
“Just a little further…” Bane said grimly. He pointed with out looking at Hadda. “Hit the boosters.”
Hitting a handle the ship shot forward and broke free into the inky blackness of space.
“We have Star Destroyers coming to intercept us!” Hadda yelled.
“Well activate the radar jamming.”
“It's still recharging because we used it to go visit the ever so hospitable Felucian countryside.”
“Brilliant. What about light speed?” Bane asked hopefully.
Hadda checked a dial. “It's good to go.” He rocked forward as a blast struck them again growled out in a language that Aayla did not know and turned to Bane. “Where to?”
“Set destination point for Coruscant.”
The man leaned back across and saw Aayla. He looked surprised but pointed to the navigation computer. “Care to put in the coordinates blue lady?”
Aayla turned to the Navigation Computer and entered the coordinates and spoke out loud as another blast rocked them all. “Coordinates set and ready to go.”
“I like this lady. She's good at her job. Unlike others I could name.” Hadda spoke out loud.
The ship began to power up as laser blasts shot past them or rocked the ship as it acquired the best possible route to Coruscant. All held their breath as a massive star ship entered at their right. The ship began to hum richly.
“Hit it.” Bane said.
And with those words the stars stretched and they jumped out of the pursuit and out of harms way. If they knew they had just leaped thousands of light years into the fall of the Jedi Order, they may have decided not to go.
At this time Jedi Master Yoda and Jedi Master Obi-Wan have reached Senator Organa and have begun planning their assault on the Jedi Temple.
Onboard The Mistress, En-Route to Coruscant.
Aayla sat down at the communal dining quarter as Bane took a saet across from her. He was still as handsome as he had been when they had known each other training. She did not let herself dwell on such thoughts and kept her face neutral.
“Are you alright?” He asked.
“What is on Coruscant and why did my men betray me?” She asked evenly.
He leaned back and took a drink from a cup. “Right to business.” He leaned forward and looked her in the eyes. “The Jedi Order has fallen.” She began to respond angrily. “Aayla the Skywalker boy led the attack on the citadel itself. The Sith have struck an incredible blow.”
She leaned back. It could not be. The Jedi could not be dead. “How…?”
He sighed and rubbed his eyes. “We were running the Feluscian military blockade planetside when we intercepted the first transmission to the ships in orbit.” He closed his hand into a fist. “Senator Palpatine gave the order to kill all the Jedi.” He coughed and looked at the table. “I knew you were commanding and I knew where you were…” He slapped the table causing her to blink. “My feelings for you aside I knew you were a Jedi. I could not let you just die. Our, my, past won't let me.”
“Strong words for a traitor.” She said wryly. “Why help an Order that you abandoned when you were so close to being a Master? Or for that matter a person you were… close with?” The heat in her voice surprised her. “You murdered a fellow Jedi!”
Bane looked at her with a haunted look. “I had a very good reason to kill that man, if you could call him that.” She looked at him quizzically. “After the battle with him I… discovered things about myself. So I decided that I did not want to hurt anyone. Especially you.” She felt her heart beat faster and her lekku (Note: Lekku- the two tentacles that come off of a Twi'lek head.) twitch with interest. She wanted to believe him. She wanted to accept him once more. But her Order was now dead. She hardly knew how to process that much less the feelings that were bubbling up inside of her.
“As much as I wish to believe you,” She let her mind search his connecting with him through the Force and felt the fondness within him and the honesty. She leaned forward for the first time not being disgusted with him. Instead being completely honest to the being for whom she cared. “You know I can't. Even then you won't tell me why you killed that man. How can I believe you fully?” She let out a small growl. “You don't have any idea how often I wondered where you were, if you were alright, if you were even alive.” She swallowed. “I forced myself to stop caring. I had to.”
He looked at her sadly. “I know.” Bane closed his eyes. “I had no choice but to accept the outcomes such as that with my choice. It was the hardest thing I have ever done.”
She shook her head and put her hands to her eyes. Her feelings for him had not changed at all she realized. With an irritated grumble she looked at him. “Bane Atammar you are always going to be the greatest test in my life.”
He smiled. Inside she felt herself loosen even more. He grew grim as his mind focused on the reason for their reunion. “We are headed to Coruscant.”
She put aside feelings and nodded. “I will go to try and find any other Jedi that may remain at the temple.” She looked closely at him. “Just why are you helping?”
Bane looked away from her. “I feel the draw to go there.”
She smiled then. “Your master summons you.” He nodded. “What will you do?”
He looked blankly but she could see the anger in his face. “Find him and find out why I'm there.” He leaned back a frustrated look in his eyes. “I stayed out of the Clone Wars and now I'm being dragged in.”
She stayed neutral. “What have you done since you… left?”
Bane spread his arms to the ship. “Smuggling and Bounty Hunting.”
She sniffed. “You've become a ruffian then.”
He shrugged. “Better than what I was offered.” He leaned forward. “Don't think I haven't done anything worth while.” He leaned forward. “There is one other reason I go to Coruscant.”
She crossed her arms over her breasts. “What?”
“My two associates and I have been hunting a group of three Sith.” She nodded. “Those three have gone to Coruscant.” He shrugged. “That's who I hunt.” He smiled darkly. “I bring back a head and the Jedi contacts pay handsomely.”
She nodded. She had set up several contacts such as he spoke of, they were not common but they were real.
The inner-ship communicator rang out and Hadda spoke. “Bane we've come in system.”
Bane nodded and stood. Aayla followed him. They passed by the hallway leading to the main engineering bay. Bane paused and yelled into it.
“Tiv meet at the cockpit.”
Someone yelled from inside but Bane kept walking. He looked to Aayla. “I heard you became a Master.”
She nodded. “I was anointed during the early stages of the war.”
He nodded. “Good, you deserve the promotion.” He turned and threw her a roguish wink. “Master Aayla Secura.”
She smiled to herself. He had most likely researched her over the years to keep an eye on her. It could not have been chance that he had just happened to be on Felucia.
They came to the cockpit and the man Hadda turned around. He had a black tattoo across the center of his face.
“So this is the girl we went to rescue.” He bowed his head with his hand on heart. “I am Hadda Det'Hetta second in command of our little outfit.”
She bowed her head. “I am Jedi Master Aayla Secura.”
“Engines are good to go.” A female walked into the cockpit. She was not human. She was a Zeltron. Her skin was a deep red with blue hair that was drawn back by a set of astro-goggles rested upon her brow. She was incredibly attractive as all Zeltron were. “Who's this?”
Again Aayla bowed once more. “I am Jedi Master Aayla Secura.”
The female smiled sexily. “Nice to meet you. I'm Tivia Jyoula. You can call me Tiv” She turned to Bane. “Hey boss this is the girl huh?” Bane ignored her. Tivia looked at Aayla again. “Nice choice.”
Aayla watched the red skinned female with interest. She had met only several Zeltron this was one of the most vocal.
Bane raised a hand. “Quiet down. Now we all know why we are here.” He grew stony. “We head directly to the Jedi temple.”
Hadda nodded. “Sounds typically unplanned.” He put his finger tips together. “Do we have any idea where our pay check is?”
Bane shook his head. “We'll find them. With what is happening right now with the Jedi those three will be neck deep in the fighting some where.”
Tivia laughed. “I'll go get loaded up then.” She looked to Aayla with a seductive smile on her face. “You want a change of clothes?”
“Tivia.” Bane spoke out. “Leave her alone and go get prepared.” The female laughed and walked off. Bane turned to Aayla. “You'll have to ignore Tiv. It's just her nature.”
Aayla looked at him. “I don't mind.” She looked out the cockpit and saw the Galactic Capitol before her. “If I can't find anyone at the Temple I will look for you.”
He was staring at her. “You don't need to. I know how you feel about what I have done.”
She turned around. “You may be all I have after this day.” She was sad for her Order's fall it had been her life. And now looking down upon the planet where the temple was. She forced herself to feel little.
Bane was staring at Aayla. He thought about what she said. He dearly wanted to have her. He had for close to ten years. It was partly why he had left the Order. And now as a he saw the light of Coruscant's moon gleam on her cerulean skin he knew he would have no other.
His hand brushed his lightsaber and he felt his old master call to him again. He looked at Aayla once more and then took the throttle. He would answer the call; he would do it for her. Had they known that the acts that both would do the coming hours would tie them into a seventeen year long war they may have given second thought on their choices.
