Chapter 2
Where are you going, Mastermind? Farfarello asked calmly, following the German, barely able to keep up because of the other mans speed. /Though I could catch him if I wanted to. / He thought to himself with a small smirk.
Where there's one the other is close by… he replied absently.
`One'? Farfarello inquired.
It's that `Haruka' again.
Farfarello sped up considerably, catching up with the German easily in less than a minute.
“Doko?” He asked, eyes roving the tops of the surrounding buildings.
Schuldig paused, trying to locate the winged creature by his thoughts. “There.” He said finally, tilting his head to the side, indicating the building beside them. “Up there. On the roof.”
Farfarello bared his teeth in his version of a grin. “Then let's go.” Not waiting for a response, he stalked to the fire escape, tugging it down, allowing them both to be able to climb it. Farfarello was practically running up the stairs, eager to get to the goblin.
He slowed as they reached the rooftop, moving quietly, not wanting to startle the creature he was about to kill. /Although it would be a shame if he didn't fight back. I want to know what it is capable of. / Farfarello thought to himself.
Schuldig, however, seemed to have other plans. He just stomped over to the creature and stood there, hands on his hips. “Oi.”
The goblin looked up as if just realizing they were there and jumped to his feet, his wings fanning out behind him. “What are you two doing here?”
“We could ask you the same thing.” Schuldig replied, tapping his foot impatiently. He really is an intelligent creature… I think…
Farfarello just stared at the winged creature, trying to decide whether or not he wanted to kill it or not. If it was intelligent it would not have challenged me in the ally.
True… Right now it doesn't know if it should attack or flee, although it's leaning toward attacking… you, that is. He added thoughtfully.
Let him. Farfarello replied calmly, hand already moving for one of his knives.
Wait. Schuldig told him suddenly. Wait a second...
What? Farfarello asked, irritated by the delay.
Well, I was trying to find out who the kid was… it turns out mister red-eyes is this things master somehow… then I tried to find memories of before the kid and there's… nothing…it's like he didn't exist before the kid found him… wait there's something… “A rock? You were locked in a rock?” Schuldig asked incredulously, looking up at the hovering goblin.
Haruka looked at him in shock for a moment, then was suddenly holding a staff of some kind and flying forward, towards Schuldig, whose eyes had widened in surprise but didn't move.
Schuldig! Farfarello started forward, and, knowing that he wouldn't make it in time with his normal speed, was suddenly right in front of the startled telepath, the hand with the knife up in front of his face in a defensive stance. Move! He told him, eyes on the goblin in front of him.
Haruka, however, didn't intend to lose his prey that easily, and followed the telepath quickly, dodging around Farfarello.
As he was flying past him Farfarello grabbed his leg and pulled him backward, giving the German time to escape. Go home Schuldig. Farfarello told him, holding onto the struggling goblin. Go home and stay there until I come back.
No! Are you crazy? I'm not running away. I want to watch you fight him!
Farfarello sighed. / I should have known… / Fine. Just stay out of the way, ja?
Why? Schuldig asked, offended that Farfarello didn't think he could take care of himself.
Do you want to die? The white haired man asked quietly, glancing at him. Do you want to die here? By his hands? Or mine? Schuldig backed up a step as Farfarello looked at him. His eye was red again, with a thin ring of black on the outer edge of the iris.
What the hell is up with that fucking eye?! Schuldig didn't realize he had actually asked that until Farfarello answered him.
If you stay you will see…you won't like it but you will see… Just don't run.
Why? Why shouldn't I run? He asked warily.
Because then we will both chase you. Haruka finally managed to escape from Farfarello's grasp and continued his pursuit of the German.
Schuldig crossed his arms in front of his face and closed his eyes, preparing for the worst. When it didn't happen he opened one eye slowly, then they both opened wide and his arms dropped to his sides.
Farfarello had caught Haruka again, less than a foot away from where the telepath was standing, and it was obvious how he had caught him. He had wings. They were like Haruka's- black- but they looked like they had been dipped in blood, the tips of the feathers a deep red, only a little darker the than the color Farfarello's eye changed into.
“Mein Gott…” Schuldig whispered.
Don't run… Schuldig jumped at the voice in his head, it sounded different than the voice he was used to hearing from the madman, deeper, almost echoing. Please don't run from me…I kept this from you for your own safety.
Schuldig stared at the two creatures before him, speechless for once… well, momentarily anyway… Why? It seemed that was his favorite question today. Why didn't I find this in your mind?
What you've read in my mind is what I've let you read. I can shield as well, if not better than the Oracle can.
That's not possible! no one can shield like he can, no one at Rosenkreuz could-
I can. Farfarello said quietly.
How? This isn't possible…
Farfarello laughed. You can read peoples minds and you say this is impossible?
