Teen Titans Fan Fiction ❯ Normal Like You ❯ Everything's Fine ( Chapter 19 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

I don't have an estimate as to how much longer this story will be, but it might be not too long. And once again, I've lost the original format for this chapter, so I'll have to improvise.
Normal Like You
Chapter 19: Everything's Fine
Gar pulled up to her house, and Raven paused before opening to the door.
“Rae, you don't have to.”
She smiled at him, a false smile, and it made Gar uneasy.
“I'm fine. Don't worry. I'll just ignore him and he'll ignore me.”
He didn't believe her. Which was alright, because both knew it was complete bull.
But Raven ignored it and walked up to her house. The front door was unlocked; she didn't often use the door, and she wondered if it was a bad omen.
She held in a breath…
…And closed the door behind her.
Her plan had been to enter quietly and sit in her room without making a noise. If she was lucky her father would still be drunk and/or asleep. She took a hesitant step forward and cringed as she felt her boots clink against a beer bottle. It chinked against a second bottle.
..
No noise.
Nothing.
Raven was confused.
It was bad to test her luck.
She tested her luck.
“Hello?”
…….
Nothing.
Paranoia crept into her skin.
Slowly she turned towards the kitchen.
“Is someone-”
She stopped.
There was a point in all horror movies, where the main character knows something is going on and is standing in a doorway or even against a wall. The scene is filled with silence, and you know something is about to happen. Suddenly you hear the heavy breathing of the villain, and that's when it attacks.
Raven heard the heavy breathing behind her and she turned slowly. Her father stood before her, a hunk of drunken meat, a beer bottle swinging lazily in his hands.
“Where have you been?” he slurred.
“I was with…” She tugged her sweatshirt tighter. “…I was with my friends.”
“Bullshit.” His words ran together, and Raven wondered how much he'd been drinking lately. “You don't have any friends.”
“Fine. I was at school.” She hoped he was too drunk to notice it was the weekend.
He slapped her, hard. She barely managed to stay standing.
“Where the hell have you been?!” he roared.
She cringed, stepping back instinctively. “I-I'm going to my room,” she whispered, wincing at her stutter.
“You're staying right here!” He shoved her, and she stumbled back, tripping over the beer bottles and hitting her head on the dusty coffee table. He stood over her, his form making a deadly shadow.
She closed her eyes, bowing her head.
“Don't get hurt.”
Gar's voice rung in her ears, and she blinked. She stared up at her father, mind blank as she watched his next move.
“You were out with a boy, weren't you?” he hissed. “You're a slut, just like your mother.”
Her decision was made. She jumped up, head-butting him in the chest, and gritted her teeth as the shock-wave rushed through her body. Her father was taken aback by her attack and hit the wall, empty picture frames shattering as his body hit it.
Raven jutted back, placing a hand to her forehead. Blood was already making its way down the side of her face. But she couldn't just leave now. Her father would be at her heels.
He was already jumping up, grabbing her arm and pulling her towards him. She struggled for a moment until she felt his hand grip around her neck and pull her off the ground, slamming her against the wall.
She gasped for air, kicking her legs. She tried to rip his hands off her, with little luck.
There was a frantic knocking at the door. Raven's eyes went wide, and for a moment she stopped struggling. The knock turned to a bang, and then it opened.
She couldn't quite see what happened. A blur ran towards her father, knocking him over. His grip dropped and she fell, rubbing her throat.
Two arms wrapped around her and for a moment she fought back, until she heard the soft whisper of Gar's voice.
“Move.”
She shook her head. “What the hell are you doing?”
There was a howl of rage from her father, and he was knocked off her. She felt his fists pound into her chest, and the air was knocked out of her lungs.
And slowly her visions went black.

“I'm fine.”
Raven groaned groggily.
“Let me see her, damn it!”
She smiled.
That was definitely Gar.
“I think she's waking up.”
The shouting stopped. She slowly attempted to sit up, but a hand touched her shoulder.
“I wouldn't try that.”
“Rae!”
She rubbed her forehead. A large patch was over where she hit her head.
“Where am I?” she murmured.
“The hospital.”
She blinked. “What?”
“We'll explain in a minute.”
She could see Gar in the doorway, and he smiled at her, a relieved expression crossing his face.
“A few of your neighbors heard the ruckus and called the cops. You're in pretty bad shape, but nothing a few nights of rest won't heal.”
She nodded absently, her eyes trained on Gar.
“I think I'll be fine.”
Authoress Notes:
Not the last chapter. Shorter than I expected, but I was gonna leave it earlier.
So, that should keep you amused for a small amount of time. I've uploaded a new story called The Devil's Pay, but I won't post it for a little while.
