Author's Notes: Kon’nichi wa minna-sama! I'm here with a fic for the Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, yet it is an AU. What would happen if Link was never able to kill Ganondorf on his own? What if Ganon had slain the Hero of Time and tried to take the Triforce of Courage as his own, but it had already moved on to claim a new champion? This is just something I was thinking about one day while listening to my music and writing Overcoming the Darkness. This is just a spur of the moment thing, so if you no likely, then I'll take it down. I'm nervous about this fic so please be semi-kind with the reviews.
Crossing over with Majora's Mask as well. I'm introducing an original character by the name of Emerald. Just think of her as a female Link for this fic okies?
Domo arigatou gozaimasu!
Disclaimers: I no own characters from Zelda except Emerald! If I did own this game, things would be vastly different! For instance...Sheik would be an actually boy and he and Link would be going at it all night long!

Sheik's POV
Life...It has no meaning for me anymore. Nothing matters anymore...Two long, painful years have passed since the Evil King Ganon has killed the Hero of Time and tried to claim the Triforce of Courage as his own, making it vanish instead...I can remember those beautiful blue eyes that always sparkled with his life boring into me with no soul...nothing. I have now taken up the role of guarding the Princess Zelda since the Impa and the other Sages have locked themselves deep within the Temple of Light trying to devise another plan of attack since the Hero of Time was dead. It was a very painful shock to me because Link and I were lovers...and now...Princess Zelda and I are on our way to the Temple of Time to get to the Sages because they had found a new...champion…to take up arms against the Evil King Ganon...
Normal POV
Using the shadows as a cloak around them, Sheik and Zelda moved quickly and quietly passed the many ReDead and Gibdo that were littered through what used to be the marketplace of Hyrule castle. The Castle town had gotten worse since the death of Link, the Hero of Time. Kokiri Forest was devastated when they lost him. The new Deku Sprout was barely growing and the surviving Kokiri were dying out. The Zora's River had all, but dried up and the Zora's themselves were no more. The Gorons were a tough race, but they weren't tough enough to face the now revived Volvagia that cut off their food supply yet again. Lon Lon Ranch could barely hold off the swarm of Stalachildren that attacked them at night since Ganon's dark power was growing stronger as time went on. The Gerudos used to be followers of Ganondorf, but had aligned themselves with Nabooru after she revealed herself to be the Spirit Sage. Things could not possibly get worse for the land of Hyrule since the death of Link. When they finally arrived at the Temple, Sheik carefully put the shadows back in place and led Zelda into the temple.
If Zelda were to use her powers to warp them to the Temple, it would have alerted Ganon to their where abouts and he would have surely killed them. The Elemental Stones were still on the alter where Link had placed them nine years ago when he had first warped to this time. Zelda pulled out the Ocarina of Time and began to open the door that led them to the Temple of Light. Sheik looked around cautiously as he felt darkness nearly pulsing around them. "Hurry Princess...He may have not have sensed us yet, but he is doing a scan as we speak." Zelda nodded her head as she continued to play the Song of Time. Sheik grabbed her and swiftly dashed through the portal. When they arrived, the Sages were standing on their respective crests looking exhausted. Ganon had drained the land of all magic and the Sages that have guarded Hyrule for so long were now weaken.
"Sages of Hyrule, please tell me! Have you truly found a new champion to defend our dying land?!" Rauru nodded his head and raised his hand. A golden screen had appeared before them bearing the image of a girl around Zelda's age with long flowing forest green hair. She also had glossy wings that lay on her back neatly. Sheik gasped as he looked into her eyes. They were the same color blue as Link's and had that same expression of life he once had. She had fair skin and looked as if she was sitting in a laundry pool playing a platinum ocarina. Sheik couldn't stop staring into her eyes. "...Link..." "This girl is called Emerald. She was the original holder for the Triforce of Power." "She is also the one Link chose to place his soul within." Sheik felt his breath catch. His lover placed his soul within this girl? "Where is she?" "She is currently in Termina and is being watched by the Gerudos stationed there." "Rauru! Your information is wrong!" Saria pulled up a green screen and checked the data over. "Your information is correct about Emerald, but Link's soul went to the mask at her waist! We need that mask if we are to revive the Hero." "Revive...the hero?" Saria nodded her head as the screen vanished. "It would use up the last of our magic, but we would be able to bring the Hero back." "And being as though we found the real holder of the Triforce of Power, he'll have back up." "I'll go retrieve her. Do you have enough power to send me to Termina?"
"Leave that to me! The other Sages are exhausted, but because I mainly draw my power from the wind and trees instead of pure magic, I'm just fine." Saria, the Forest Sage floated over to Sheik and smiled. "I'm sure Link would be happy to be reunited with you." Sheik looked down as she hugged him. "This is a one way ticket so you'll have to get back on your own." Sheik nodded his head as Saria led him to the center of the Triforce crest. "I'm sorry, but I only have enough power to send one of you so you'll have to stay here Princess." Zelda nodded her head as she looked at Sheik. "Please...return to us safely." "I will..." He vanished as Saria sent him on his way. When Sheik was finally able to open his eyes, he realized he was lying on a soft bed with his wraps gone from his face. He heard a soft humming and turned to see the girl with forest green hair. A mask that looked almost identical to Link's face was hanging from her hip as she appeared to be cooking.
"Wh-where am I?" The girl turned around and her blue eyes locked with his crimson ones. "You're finally awake! You know...you don't really see Sheikah around these parts anymore." She walked over to him and smiled brightly. "I'm Emerald! I met you three days ago around Romani Ranch." He sat up and felt that his shoulder was sore. He looked to see it was wrapped up as well as his torso. "What happened to me?" She gave him a sideways glance and shook her head. "You don't remember?" He shook his head no and she sighed. "Well...I was heading to Romani Ranch to pick up some eggs when you appeared within a green light. We talked after my sudden surprise, but a group of Moblins had jumped us. You took a really bad hit and passed out. You're real lucky that I'm skilled in archery." He touched his head as he tried to remember that event, but it just made his head hurt. "Don't strain your self! You remember what you were sent here to do right?" He looked at her and nodded his head. She smiled in relief as she sat on her knees. "Good! For a minute there I honestly thought you lost your entire memory!"
She stood up and finished cooking. "So? What's your name Sheikah?" She sat a plate in front of him and sat next to him on the floor. "...My name is Sheik." She nodded her head as she placed the mask by her side. "...Tell me...Where did you get that mask from?" "This?" She held up the mask and sighed. "...I just woke up with it by my side one day. It felt that it was important for me to have it so I keep it on me at all times. Why do you ask?" He hung his head as he thought about if he should tell her that the mask was of great importance and that it would bring back his dead lover. He just sighed and just began to eat. She just looked at him as she picked at her food. "...Is there some reason why you need this mask?" He looked at her and nodded his head. "Why?" "Where are my wraps?" "Oh! I had to wash them because they were a little bloody..." She handed them over and he wrapped his face back up. "Could you come with me to Hyrule? It should be just three days journey." "Hmm..." She floated up into the air, surprising him and sat there in the air. "Of course! It would be an honor to meet the Hero of Time now!" Sheik's heart clenched as he looked down. "...He-...He's...dead..." "Wha-?" She landed on her feet and gaped at him. "Impossible...I met with him when we were kids...He said he would come back when he...was older..." She picked up the mask and giggled. "What's so funny?"
She held up the mask and smiled. "He did come back to see me after all huh?" She hugged the mask and took a deep breath. "I'm traveling with you. You never know...I might just see him again!" She flew out of the room after handing Sheik the mask for safe keeping and came back with his clothes. She handed them to him and took the mask into her hands. "Was your promise that important to keep that your soul entered mask form and you returned to me this way?" She giggled as she hovered slightly. Sheik had finished getting dressed when he notice that she had the faint markings of the Triforce on the back of her right hand. "(Huh?)" The Triforce of Power flickered dimly, but none the less it was active. "...that marking..." "Huh?" She looked at the back of her hand and giggled airily before dashing off to get her weapons. "Link told me that this is my birth right. It links me to Hyrule." She pulled out a silver and gold bow along with a white quiver full of pure silver arrows. "He said I was destined for greatness and that he may need of my help someday." She chuckled as she placed the mask into a bag.
"Guess he needs my help today!" She was smiling so brightly that Sheik couldn't help but smile with her. He was about to be reunited with someone he thought was lost forever. Sheik checked over his things as Emerald darted around, grabbing things as she went. "Are you almost ready Emerald?" She flew up to him and smiled. "Yup! Here. I want you to guard this. You seem much more capable than me." She handed him the bag where Link's soul was resting. "I-...I don't think I should..." "Nonsense Sheik! You came all this way to get him back so he obviously means something to you!" He couldn't help but blush under his scarves. Was it really that obvious? They were about to leave Clock Town when Emerald was stopped by someone who looked hauntingly like Link did when he was a child. "Are you leaving now? Is it time?" She nodded her head and the boy smiled. "Thank you for watching over me Emerald." She smiled while Sheik just stood there in awe. "...Link?" The boy looked up with those blue eyes and smiled at the shocked Sheikah. He felt his heart clench when he saw that smile. "It really is you Link..." "Don't worry any more Sheik...She's a great warrior...She protected me all this time."
"I was right. He does mean something. If you can see this child then this means I was right in choosing to take you in!" Emerald knelt in front of the boy and ruffled his hair. "You'll be returning to your old self in no time! I promise." He hugged her before he vanished. Straighten herself out, Emerald turned to face Sheik and tugged him along. "Come on! We've wasted enough time! Hyrule awaits us!"
