A young woman was sitting in the dining room with her mother, both having breakfast. She looked at her mother's red curly hair, and looked abashed when she looked at her daughter. The older woman raised an eyebrow at her daughter.

 

She flushed and shifted her body uncomfortably.

 

“Mom, I… I can't decide between two men that I am in love with. How do I…?”

 

“I suggest by picking the one that will treat you with affection, more love than you could offer,” Rose said, setting her coffee down, “I met a wonderful young man, and we met on Titanic… he had barely any money to support himself, much less a family. I loved him with all my heart. I would have chosen him over your father any day. That night… I… it broke my heart to see him dead on that terrible night

 

Her daughter stared at Rose, and her throat croaked. She cleared her throat, “You would choose this man over father?

 

“Yes, he gave me so much love, so much life in just those four days I knew him, Francesca,” Rose said, closing her eyes. “Never speak of this to anyone.”

 

“Yes mom,” she said, wide eyed.
