Trigun Fan Fiction ❯ Careful What You Wish For, You Might Regret It ❯ The Golden Star ( Chapter 2 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

Night came much sooner than Naomi had expected, not that she was complaining though. She slipped on her backpack and quietly opened her window. She slid out and closed the window then walked all the way to the end of the house where a drainpipe was attached.

She turned around and lowered herself onto the pipe and started climbing down, landing softly in the neatly trimmed grass. She looked up at the dark windows, making sure no one had heard or seen her, then dashed down the driveway and down the sidewalk.

After she was clear of her house, Naomi pulled her backpack off slightly and unzipped the top, pulling out her CD player and her headphones. She zipped her backpack back up then turned on her music and put in her headphones. (A/N: ya know, those earplug type ones ^^)

It was always a long walk from her house to her boyfriend's, but it would have been better if she knew how to drive. In the slightly cloudy sky, Naomi saw that it was a full moon. She thought back to all the episodes on Trigun that showed their moons. They had more than one and neither were yellow or white like Earth's. It struck her then that the planet on Trigun wasn't even Earth. She laughed slightly and kept walking.

It took about fifteen minutes to reach the old, white one-story house. Naomi pushed open the black gate, cringing when it gave a loud creaking of protest. She shook her head and gave made a mental note, tell Mike to fix his darn gate cause it's a dead give away when ya want to sneak in or out.

As she neared the door, she could have sworn she heard some giggling. She looked over her shoulder then to her left and right. She saw no one, only shadows teasing the trees and other houses. She shrugged and jumped the three steps and knocked on the door.

She listened carefully and she heard noises that disturbed her. She heard Mike inside shout a few curses and heard a thump then heard a female voice whisper something harshly only to be replied by Mike.

There was some thudding around the house and suddenly the door flew open to reveal a tall, beautifully built boy. He gave a winning smile and ran a hand through his long, soft blonde hair. Naomi raised a slender, black eyebrow.

"Hey, babe! Happy birthday!" He said breathlessly.

"Uh……. yeah, whatever. What was with all the noises? Have someone here?" She said looking up at him. He looked nervous, but tried to hide it with his smile.

"No! Why would you say that?" Naomi sighed, bowing her head and putting two fingers against her forehead in irritation.

"Oh, I don't know, maybe because of all the noises for one and whispering. I heard a girl's voice. What's going on?" She asked, her voice growing dark and suspicious. Mike looked at her in confusion.

"What? Nothing is going on, you musta heard my sister!" Naomi blinked.

"You told me Tiffany was having a slumber party at her friends house," she said, confused.

"She was running a fever so mom said she had to stay home." Naomi arched an eyebrow before peeking into the house.

"Well, can I come in?" She asked in a bored voice. He stepped aside, allowing her access into the house.

Naomi dropped her backpack and CD player on the couch and stretched. Mike came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her, making ridiculous purring sounds and blowing gently at her neck. She let out a small giggle before slipping out of his hold. She blushed and looked around.

"So, baby, I want to give you my birthday present." He walked out of the room then came back with a small box in his hand. She looked at it curiously.

He smirked and got down on one knee and said, "Naomi, we've been seeing each other for two years straight and we have a created a strong bond between us. I want that bond to last forever. So will you, Naomi Trayl, be my girlfriend till we are old enough to marry?" Naomi cracked up and Mike gave a mock look of hurt.

"Well, gee, if ya didn't want to all ya had to do was say `no' " he whined, smiling. Naomi stood up and hugged him.

"You're nuts, but of course, that's what I like about you." She said, smiling. He stood up, opening the box and taking out the small ring. He handed it to her.

"So?"

"Yeah, ok." She went to take the ring when there was a sudden crash upstairs and a yelp. Naomi gasped and stared at the banister.

"What the hell was that?!" She cried. Mike gulped and tried to calm himself. He dragged the back of his hand over his sweaty forehead and said in a shaky voice, "It's probably Tiffany. Don't worry about it."

Naomi turned and gave him a funny look. She ran past him and started up the stairs, "Are you nuts? That crash was too loud to ignore, Mike! She could have hurt herself! Tiffany! Tiffany, are you all right?!"

"Naomi! Wait!" Mike shouted, close behind her. Naomi ignored him and turned into the hall, running for Tiffany's door, but she wasn't paying attention to what was on the floor and tripped.

"Argh!" she grunted as her head slammed into the wall. She groaned and sat up. She opened an eye and spotted another form. She stood up and switched on the hallway light that was right next to the closet, which was used to storage.

Naomi saw a blonde haired girl sit up and rub her head then glare at her with deep blue eyes. Mike was there to help the girl up. Naomi narrowed her eyes and crossed her arms.

"Watch where you're going!" The blonde spat. Naomi stalked up to the girl and said in her face, "I don't have to watch where I'm going as long as there isn't anyone lying around! Who the hell are you?"

"Her name is Susan, Naomi." Mike whispered. She looked up at her boyfriend.

"Ok, is she your cousin or something?"

"Uh, no she's a good friend of mine."

"His ex," Susan stated snobbishly, smiling at Naomi in a strange way that made her suspicious again.

"Why the hell is your ex here? This is supposed to be a private birthday party! You know, just the two of us?" Susan crossed her arms and leaned back slightly, an eyebrow raised. Naomi frowned at her.

"Your birthday?"

"Yeah. MY birthday, so get lost, Blondie!" Naomi growled. She usually hated snotty people. They always aggravated her to no end. Susan sneered and looked up at Mike, her expression changing to a look sweet innocence.

"You haven't told her, Mikey?" She said in a pouty, child tone. Naomi wanted to gag. She stared Mike straight in the eyes, her questioning gaze stabbing him. He started to sweat again and shook slightly. Susan took this as an opportunity to grab onto his arm and nuzzle it.

"Tell me what? Mike, what's going on here?!" She shouted, looking hurt and confused.

"Naomi-" he started, but Susan interrupted.

"Mike and I have gotten back together. Obviously you aren't good at handling such a man like Mikey here. Poor boy must have been very bored." Naomi's body suddenly went numb. She must have heard wrong. Susan was just a jealous ex-girlfriend. All ex's are jealous when they find out that their previous boyfriend/girlfriend have found someone new.

She stared at Mike. It couldn't be true. Susan is just lying so she can get this reaction. Well she got it. She blinked a few times before asking in a low, small voice, "Mike?"

"Naomi. I-I wanted to tell you. I did! But it was your birthday and I couldn't spoil it for you! Please, you have to believe me!"

"What was with that proposal then?!"

"I just wanted to make you feel better till the right time came to tell you!" He said, desperation evident in his voice. Naomi shook her head and charged past them, purposely shouldering Susan hard just to get the smug smile off her lips.

"Naomi! Wait!" Mike shouted. He grabbed her arm, but she shook out of it. She spun around, facing him as she started to slowly back toward the stairs.

"No! You listen to me, asshole! You have NO idea how horrible my birthday has been! First my mom throws a party after I told her not to then when I go down to blow the candles out I end up tripping on my shoelaces, right in front of everyone! I drop cake on my clothes, I get elbowed by some kid when I try to get back to my room and now I find that you, after all those wonderful times we've shared with each other, are dumping me for your low-life ex-scum! I hate you!! I hate everyone!" She screamed.

She turned around to walk down the steps, but she had turned too quickly and she ended up teetering over the first step. She let out a shrill scream as she fell down the stairs. Pain shot up her leg when she finally stopped at the bottom. To much of her surprised, she was still conscious, but in quite a lot of pain.

"Naomi! Oh my God! Are you alright?!" Mike was at her side in an instant and went to help her up when she slapped his hand away. She got up on her own and limped back into the den, her face contorted to the look of pain and rage. She grabbed her backpack and CD player and walked out the door.

Mike called after her, but she ignored him. Naomi was beyond pissed and hurt both psychically and emotionally. She wanted to crawl under a rock and hide forever. She never felt so horrible in her life.

She stopped and leaned against a tree, rubbing her watering eyes. She looked up at the sky and spotted a few stars. She didn't usually wish upon the wishing star because she never believed in wishes, but she did wish just before blowing the candles out on her cake.

She smiled slightly when she remembered her wish. It was so silly and childish to make a wish like the one she had made. She had wanted all the Trigun characters to be real, especially Legato. She shook her head and looked up at the stars again.

"Now I'm really upset that I wasn't serious about that wish. I actually wish that I were in the Trigun world than here. At least I could meet everyone at some point in time."

She turned and walked across the road. Unknown to her though, when the clouds above moved away to uncover more stars, there was one in particular that glowed a bright gold.

Naomi was right in the middle of the road when a sudden gust of when blew at her, shoving her back. She shrieked at the sudden action and stumbled backward. She covered her face as another blast of wind rushed around her. She cried out in fear as the star above brightened.

Just then leaves, dust, sand, and blades of grass were sucked into the winds that were whirling rapidly around her. It was like she was caught in a tiny tornado. So much dirt and leaves were sucked into the whirling winds that Naomi wasn't visible anymore, but she was still there because of her screams.

Bright, golden rays suddenly shot out in every direction of the small tornado and a blinding flash exploded in one gigantic flash. The light disappeared instantly, much like a camera flash, and the leaves, dirt, and grass floated down, littering the road.

Everything went back to normal except that Naomi wasn't around anymore. In the sky, the golden star twinkled once then turned back to its original color, which mimicked the moon's silver light.
