(Milly's next dream… although it doesn't take place at night and it's not quite as hot ^_^)

Part Seven: Daydreams About Night Things… Well, You Get The Picture

Milly stared out the window from her desk at Bernardelli as she took a break for the mountain of paperwork she had been assigned. Her eyes strayed to the calendar on the wall before she fixed her gaze back on the blue sky, sighing. It had been almost a year since Vash had vanished and Meryl still acted like it wasn't bothering her at all. Milly could tell it was bothering her though… friends just knew that about each other.

She reached into her desk drawer, pulling out a carefully folded newspaper and locating a small story towards the bottom of the page. She let her eyes scan the text although she had read it enough times she could recite it word for word. It had just been a small article but it meant a lot to her. She sighed, thinking about someone in particular as she read the article again.

A small time outlaw in the Orleans area attempted to rob a saloon and took a young girl hostage but was stopped by a man in black. The article mentioned that witnesses said the man was a priest but he had left town before the paper could get his side of the story. The girl's father commented that the man was indeed in black but wouldn't say if the man was a priest or not. He also said he didn't get the man's name before he left.

The paper was at least eight months old but Milly refused to throw it away. She had rescued it several times when Meryl had tried to tidy up the desk for her, insisting that it was important. Meryl would often counter that Mr. Priest probably wasn't anywhere close to the Orleans area. She also pointed out that the article would have mentioned if the man had a large cross that was filled with weapons because of how odd it was.

She tried to recall the last time she had seen Mr. Priest but all she could remember was that it was when he left the caravan once the teenagers were safe. He had said his orphanage was 300 iles from December and she wondered if he had made it home or if he was still traveling for money. She could still take a few days off from work if she needed it; the society had understood what a shock seeing Augusta had been and told both girls they could take off anytime they wanted without penalty. The only catch to the offer was that the time off could only be taken until the one-year anniversary of Augusta.

She toyed with the idea of paying a surprise visit but it would be wasted if he were still away. She put her head down on her arms, the stacks of files concealing her as she yawned. She had just gotten back from lunch and was now getting sleepy. ~No one will mind if I take a short nap, ~ She thought to herself as she shut her eyes, ~these are all closed files that just need to be alphabetized… ~

**

She heard a motorcycle pull up in front of building; not that many people rode motorcycles in the city and her heart jumped at the sound of the rough engine. She rushed to the closest window, hoping against hope that it was him. She pushed the window up and looked down at the street, scanning the area in front of the building until her eyes fixed on what she sought. She caught her breath, realizing he was more handsome than she remembered.

A couple of people stared as he hoisted the cross from the back of the bike and started up the front steps of the building. " Meryl! Look! " She called across the office to where her friend sat, pointing down to the street below. " It's Mr. Priest! "

" What? " Meryl shouted loud enough to make everyone in the office look at her in surprise. She rushed to the window to see the black haired priest smiling up at them from five floors below. She gasped, " Oh my God! It IS him! "

Wolfwood waved at the girls before walked into the building. Meryl and Milly both tore towards the elevator, everyone standing clear of the stampeding young women. " Hurry up! " Milly begged the elevator as she pushed the button repeatedly until Meryl made her stop.

" Milly! It can only go so fast! " Meryl scolded.

Milly looked down at the floor, " I'm sorry. "

The elevator arrived and the doors opened. Milly jumped in so quickly, Meryl wasn't sure she had seen her move at all. Milly grabbed her smaller friend and tugged her into the elevator as the doors started to close. She punched the first floor button and clasped her hands in anticipation.

" Milly? " Meryl arched an eyebrow. " Are you okay? "

The big girl froze, realizing how energized she must have seemed. She tried to calm down and looked at Meryl, " I just… Um… I missed Mr. Priest so much… and… you know. "

Meryl looked away, " It's okay, Milly. At least he's still around. "

" I didn't mean to… " Milly tried to apologize for even hinting at Vash's supposed death. The sound of the elevator's bell broke the awkward long silence between the two women and the doors opened. Milly looked across the lobby to see that Wolfwood was leaning against a wall, his cross by his side and a bit of smile tugging at one corner of his mouth. Her previous enthusiasm returned and she dashed towards him, Meryl following close behind.

" Mr. Priest! " She wrapped her arms around him and hugged him tightly once she reached him.

He slid his arms around her shoulders and gave her a squeeze, " Hey there, big girl. I guess you didn't miss me as much as I thought you did. "

" Yes I did! " Milly said, hugging him tight enough to pop his spine.

" I was being facetious! " He gasped. " Please let me go… before you hurt me. "

She let go and stepped back, " Oh. I'm sorry. "

Meryl looked up at him, her eyes still wet from the unshed tears Milly had seen appear in the elevator. A few people were looking at the little scene, puzzled about what was going on. " It's nice to see you again, Mr. Wolfwood, " She said politely. " I didn't expect you to show up here. "

Wolfwood shrugged, " I had to come through here anyway so I thought I'd surprise you two. "

" It worked, " Meryl said.

" What time do you girls get off work? " He winked at Milly, " There's a lot of stuff we need to catch up on. "

**

Wolfwood looked at the clock on the wall and noticed it was starting to get late. He looked at the girls, " I better get going. I don't want to make you two late for work in the morning. "

" We're off tomorrow! " Milly chirped happily.

Wolfwood arched an eyebrow, " Really? "

" Yes but I am really tired, " Meryl said. " Maybe we could get back together in the morning. I'm sure you're tired too, Mr. Wolfwood. "

Wolfwood thought about it for a moment but he didn't look sleepy. " I have to find a hotel room still anyway so I guess I had better get going. What time do you want to meet in the morning? "

Meryl looked at the clock, " Hmmm… how about eleven? "

Wolfwood nodded, " Sounds good to me. "

Milly stood up, " I guess I'll go home now. "

Wolfwood stood up, " I'll walk you to the door, big girl. "

Milly's blushed a little, " Um… okay. "

" I'll let you out, " Meryl said, walking towards the front door.

" Thanks Meryl, " Milly said as she and Wolfwood followed her. She waited as Meryl unlocked the door and opened it. They both stepped out onto the porch and Meryl closed the door behind them.

" So, " Wolfwood looked around. " How far away do you live anyway? "

" Three streets over, " Milly motioned with her hand. " It's not that long of a walk really. "

Wolfwood frowned, " You're going to walk home as late as it is? "

Milly blinked, " Yes. Is there something wrong? "

" I'm giving you a ride, big girl. I don't doubt that you can take care of yourself but I would feel much better if I knew that you made it home safely, " He hooked a finger under her chin and made her face him. " You understand, right? "

Milly nodded, " I do. Thank you for being worried about me. "

A flash of a smile crossed his lips then faded, " In these times we live in, it would be wrong not to worry. "

Milly let him take her hand and lead her down the three front steps. He then led her to his bike and she got on the back. He got on in front of her and started the bike, the engine roaring to life between their thighs. The vibrations sent a surge of electricity through Milly and she was glad he wasn't facing her or he would have seen her blushing furiously.

" Put your arms around my waist, honey, " He said over his shoulder before putting the bike into gear. He patted one of her trembling hands once her arms were around him, " You ever been on a bike before? "

" No, Mr. Priest, " Milly replied, her voice sounding a little frightened. Being so close to him was making her nervous and all she could think about was her vivid dream she had in Jenora Rock. They had ended up together in a hotel room in it and she shivered as she recalled how he had touched her in the dream.

Wolfwood chuckled, " Okay. It's not much worse than riding a Thomas. I promise I'll be careful. "

**

Milly fumbled in her pocket for the house keys; nervous about the way the brief ride on the motorcycle had made her feel. She finally found the keys but dropped them because her hands were shaking. Wolfwood bent over and retrieved the keys, " Are you okay? " He asked, taking one of her hand in his. " Honey, you're trembling still… did the bike scare you that much? "

" I'm… " Milly tried to think of good excuse. " I'm… a little dizzy. I think I've gone too long without food. "

" Oh. Let me help you inside then, " Wolfwood tried one of the three keys on the ring and it was the right one to open the lock. " I'll get you something to eat, " He said, helping her in the house.

" Thank you, " Milly replied, attempting to remove her coat but Wolfwood stepped in and assisted her because her hands were shaking. She couldn't tell him what the real problem was because she didn't know how he would take it. He put an arm around her waist so she leaned against him but being so close to him did not help her condition. In fact, it made it worse.

" Big girl, I'm taking you to bed, " Wolfwood stated. " You're shaking just increased… and it keeps getting worse. I'm afraid you'll get hurt if I just deposit you on the couch or in a chair. "

Milly felt her throat tighten when he said he was taking her to bed but it relaxed a little once he finished his statement. " O-o-okay, " She stammered, motioning towards her bedroom. " That way. "

" Right, " Wolfwood nodded once and headed in the direction Milly had indicated. He opened the door and got Milly inside. He took her to the bed and moved her so she could sit down. He knelt in front of her once she had sat down, " Let me get you out of some of these clothes… you look a little warm. "

Milly watched as he unbuttoned the first three buttons of her shirt but stopped him when he got to the fourth. He looked at her, puzzled but then he realized what was wrong. " Oh. I'm sorry. Do you have some kind of nightshirt you can put on? "

Milly nodded and pointed to her dresser, " Pajamas. Top drawer. "

Wolfwood stood up and retrieved the pajamas. He set them down on the bed and knelt again, placing his hands on either side of her face before gazing earnestly into her eyes. " I just want to help you, okay? "

" Okay, " She whispered as he moved his hands back down to her shirt, continuing to unbutton it. Her throat felt tight and her heart was pounding in her ears. She could feel each breath she took as he pulled her shirt loose from her pants, sliding the shirt off of her shoulders. He folded it neatly and placed it at the foot of the bed.

He picked up the pajama top, unfolding it as he looked at Milly but his eyes weren't focused on her face. She realized his gaze was fixed on her chest then brought her arms up to shield herself from his stare. He set the top down and looked away, " Sorry. I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable, " He said.

He stood up, " Maybe I'd better get you something to eat and you can finish changing. "

Milly watched as he left the room and picked the pajama top up slowly. Her hands were still shaking and she didn't know if she would be able to button the garment. She slipped it on, deciding to wait for Wolfwood to come back so he could button it. Long minutes passed before he returned with a can of pudding and a spoon.

" I hope this is okay, " He said, shutting the door. " It's all I could find that didn't need to be cooked first. "

" Yeah. I need to go shopping tomorrow, " Milly explained as she attempted to button her top when she realized having his hands close to her body again would not be wise. Her hands were still trembling and it was making the task impossible. Wolfwood noticed, putting the pudding down on the nightstand and kneeling at her feet again.

" Let me, " He said soothingly as he gently pushed her hands aside. He noticed she was staring at him and looked up, " What's wrong? "

" Nothing at all, " Milly whispered, placing her trembling hands on either side of his head and leaning into kiss him…

" MILLY! Wake up! " Meryl said firmly. She had come to see how the younger woman was doing on the files she had been given but found her sleeping instead.

" Huh? " Milly lifted her head, blinking as she looked around. She looked at her desk, her cheeks blushing a little and muttered, " Oh. I guess I fell asleep. "

" Yes you did. My guess is that you've been asleep most of the afternoon, " Meryl pointed to the clock on the wall. " It's almost five o'clock. "

Milly looked at the clock and Meryl was right. She had been asleep for almost four hours although she had intended to only take a short nap. " I didn't mean to, " She sighed.

Meryl shook her head, " Just be glad they're still cutting us a lot of slack over… well, you know. Otherwise, you would be in trouble. "

Milly nodded, " Yes Meryl. "
