Trigun Fan Fiction ❯ Happy Anniversary ❯ Happy Anniversary ( One-Shot )
Meryl absently munched on the bowl of homade 'chips' Milly had made.
She had made some mention of it being a family recipe, but Meryl
really didn't think about it for too long. She was trying to focus on
this article she was writing. She had to pay her portion of the bills
someway.
Meryl sighed and leaned back on her chair, glaring at the typewriter.
Milly was great with the housework and the cooking. She also worked
at the new waterplant. Vash was also working there. Meryl did
waitressing, but it didn't pay very well, even with tips. She hoped
maybe she'll be able to sell some articles and get them published or
something in order to get some greater double dollar flow.
She plucked out another chip and grumbled at her motionless
typewriter.
Meryl closed her eyes and listened to the sounds of the house. Milly
was off today and she'd said she had something important to do in the
kitchen. She heard the clattering of pans and utensils, and Milly's
feet pacing hurriedly back and forth through the kitchen. Meryl took
a deep breath and smelled the mouth-watering scent of sugar and baked
goods. She wondered what was the big deal about making so much food
right now.
Bored and stumped, she could see no other reason to stay holed up in
her room. She got up and headed for the door. Maybe Milly had
something Meryl could help with. She was good at cooking, but she
didn't have the inventive genius Milly did.
Meryl headed down the stairs and heard Milly singing along to some
music she had playing. She walked into the kitchen and saw what could
have been two things.
Chaos... Or the preparations for a party.
"Milly? What are you doing?" Meryl asked, heading toward her friend.
Milly was fiddling with a contraption that was stirring what looked
to be like the thickest, sweetest icing in the universe.
Milly looked up and blinked at Meryl. She had flour smudged on her
nose and cheek. "Oh! Meryl! Are you done with your article?"
"No, but I can't really work on it if I have no idea what I'm going
to write about." Meryl dipped her finger quickly in the stirring
stuff. She put her finger in her mouth and moaned in delight. "Oh,
Milly, this is delicious!" She looked around and saw food on the
stove being cooked, stuff in the oven, and a couple other gadgets
being used to make something or other. Something smelled wonderfully
of coffee. "Milly, why are you making so much? What's up?"
Milly stared at Meryl owl-eyed before startling herself out of her
surprise. "You don't know, Meryl? Did you forget?" She leaned toward
Meryl to whisper something in her ear.
Meryl put a hand to her mouth, and looked at Milly as she pulled
away. The larger woman had a pleased grin on her face. "Milly, I'd
completely forgotten..."
"You want to take care of dinner while I take care of the desert?"
Meryl rolled up her sleeves with a devilish grin. "I'll make a
feast!" She headed toward the fridge with a determined glint. *I'll
make the best food I've ever made, and I'll put all my love into it!*

Vash stretched as he walked into the house and tossed his gear on the
chair by the door. "I'm home!" He cracked his neck and went to the
door on the immediate right to look in on his twin. Still
unconscious. His brow furrowed. Neither of the insurance girls were
watching him? He checked the clock on the wall. It'd be Milly's shift
wouldn't it? "Milly, Meryl?" he called out. They hadn't replied to
his 'I'm home' with the usual 'Welcome back' either.
Vash suddenly got a little worried. He inched into the house
cautiously, hoping nothing had happened to the girls while he was at
work. But the further he got into the house the more he was torn
between what to think. He couldn't hear them, and they weren't
responding, but he could smell luscious foods coming from within the
deeper recesses of the house. His stomach rumbled loudly.
Just as Vash stepped around the wall that lead from the living room
to the dining room a very loud, "SURPRISE!" startled him from his
hungry stupor. He stared in disbelief at the table decked with enough
food to feed the entire town, with a five layer cake the center
decoration (not to mention the mad icing decoration skills), and two
insurance girls, dressed in their best.
Vash didn't even think they had dresses like that.
Milly was in a simple, elegant dress of the same shade of blue as her
eyes. It had short sleeves that clung to her shoulder from a wide
oval neckline. The skirt billowed around her ankles. She was
barefoot. Meryl was also barefoot, but she was in a sleek, black
dress, sleeveless with thin straps and a cut that dipped into a
sexy 'v' to accent her cleavage. The dress molded to her body and
ended just above her knees. Vash could only stare at them, the food,
and the giant 'HAPPY ANNIVERSARY' sign above their head with mouth
agape.
They looked at him with such eagerness that he didn't allow himself
to stay in shock for very long. He waved at the entire picture before
him dramatically. "What's this?"
"Happy Anniversary, Mr. Vash!" Milly said happily before wrapping him
up in a squeeze.
"'Happy Anniversary'?"
Milly released him and Meryl was already standing by his side. She
gave him a brilliant smile. "I'd forgotten myself, Vash. Milly was
the only one who remembered. This is the anniversary of the first
time we met you and knew you were Vash the Stampede. We've been with
you ever since."
Vash stared at Meryl and at Milly wonder spreading across his
features. He grasped them both suddenly in his arms and held them
close, overwhelmed. They hugged him back.
When he finally pulled away, he gave them an abashed look. "I'm not
really dressed for the occasion," he murmured, looking embarrassed
about his work clothes.
"Nonsense!" Milly said. "We did this to celebrate. Meryl and I just
happened to have these old things lying around. You're fine!"
Vash shook his head. "No. This is a special occasion. I'll be right
back." Vash dashed to his room and came back moments later, feeling
much more appropriate in the clothes Meryl and Milly had bought for
him months ago. He hadn't had a chance to wear them yet.
When Milly saw him, she let out a delighted squeal. Meryl looked up
at him and flushed fiercely. Vash gave them both a wide grin. "So,
ladies? Shall we celebrate?"
Milly nodded and began to distribute the food. Meryl went to the
record player and turned it on. Vash was right beside
her. He looked down at her and gave her a wide grin. "Happy
Anniversary, Meryl."
She blushed a lovely shade of red and Vash led her to the table. He
looked at the giant cake Milly was already cutting and his heart
warmed.
The words "HAPPY ANNIVERSARY VASH!!" was decorated on the cake, in a
handwriting he recognized as Meryl's.
