"NO!"

"Knives, c'mon. Just this one favor, please?"

"Never!"

It was past sunset and everyone was getting ready for bed. Then the problem struck everyone. Kane was staying the night, maybe a few more after, but she had no where to sleep.

When they refused to sleep in the same room with Milly and Wolfwood and when Kane said 'no' to the couch, everyone had turned to Knives.

"Oh, c'mon, bro! It's not like you're going to die!" Vash whined, trying to reason with his stubborn twin. Milly and Wolfwood were already in their room. The second bed was turned upside in the hall down next to Knives's wall.

Knives was standing in the door way, his hands grasping either side of the door frame, keeping anything from going in. Meryl was leaning against the wall with a scowl while Kale and Kane leaned against the bed.

Vash was trying all he could to get Knives to surrender his room for the girls and keep him calm. But being Knives, you can only receive one.

"I cannot believe you, Vash! You think that just because these two vermin refuse the couch or the other humans' room you can just move them into my room and think everything will be fine! I refuse to have them in my room, I refuse to have them touch or even look at my belongings, and I refuse to have them ask me questions on what every little particle in the room is!"

Meryl pushed from the wall and started stalking toward Knives, "Do I have to remind you just who's house this is?! Where do you suppose they sleep then?!" He threw up his arms before bringing them back down to clasps back down onto the doorframe.

"In the damned closet, the kitchen, outside! Does it look I care?! All I know is that they are not sleeping with me! I have tolerated you blasted humans long enough and now just because another decides to show up out of the blue and think she can stay is out of the question!" Knives hissed.

"Why do you keep thinking this is your home?! I've tolerated you long enough and I still don't understand why Vash didn't just kill you!" Meryl screamed.

Vash looked shocked beyond belief along with Kale and Kane. Knives only smirked, his eyes going flat and cold. Suddenly the air seemed to think and drop in temperature.

Keeping his hands on the doorframe, Knives leaned forward toward Meryl and whispered in a chilling tone, "The same reason why he won't kill you or anything else. Don't think you can order me around and think that dear Vash will protect you from me. The only thing keeping you alive right now is not my brother. It's my self-control and your bitchy attitude is only thinning it."

Vash quickly pushed in front of Meryl and glared at Knives in warning, "Stop that, Knives. I don't want to fight with you. I never did. Just for a few nights. It won't kill you!"

Knives's shoulders slumped in defeat. He was too tired to fight as well. All he wanted was some quite time, but he could never get it. His glare shifted to the female twins. Kane was frowning and Kale was looking embarrassed.

"Touch anything other than what is yours and I will kill you without a though," he snarled and pushed past his brother and down the darkened hallway. He wanted some space. Ever since he was forced to live with his brother, everything had been hard on him.

The betrayal of his brother that seemed to never go away. The pain he had to endure in all of his limbs for half a year. The fear that he could have been handicapped for the rest of his ageless life. The hatred he had toward his brother's woman and her idiotic friend. The confusion he felt when he kissed Kale. The self-loathing he felt after he had kissed Kale.

The very rage in his soul seemed to burn brighter every time something went wrong and didn't go his way. And now, with him sitting outside on the porch, looking up at the stars and the moons, Knives thought back to his childhood. A small, humorless smile etched its way across his mouth.

To think, all of this started because of a damned spider. Pathetic.

A small sound came from behind him. A soft whisper of clothing. Footsteps padded quietly toward him and he looked over his shoulder. Kale stood there in the same nightclothes as before. He twitched and turned away.

What is with these creatures? Are they this stupid that they don't know when to give someone space?

"What do you want?" he said in an annoyed tone.

"Don't start, Knives. I know you're pissed off with everything happening around you. I'm really sorry and I completely understand that this is unfair to you."

"Don't tell me about what is fair and what isn't. You don't know anything that has happened in my 133 years of life. You think you have it hard, but in truth, you don't know what hard is." Kale suddenly appeared at his side and sat down on her knees. She glared at him.

"You may be right, Knives, but this is now. I'm having a hard time just trying to stay on your good side and even then you're still an unbearable asshole! I would love to switch my life with you. You hardly seem like a man who would crumble under pressure." Knives turned his icy gaze toward her stormy ones.

"Are you afraid of me?" Kale looked at him, her gray eyes darkening in confusion. Knives found that a little fascinating.

"Anyone in their right mind would be, Knives. You're the scariest man I've met because you're unpredictable. You remind me of a woman and all her mood swings," she said, smiling in that sly manner that made him want to shoot at her.

"Shut up," he grumbled.

"Why do you ask?"

"Because you hardly act like it. Maybe only when I fire at you or invade your 'personal space'. You're not nearly as intimidated after I shot you. Vash's little dog thinks she can do whatever she wants with me, but she never does it when I'm in the same room and Vash isn't anywhere near.

"Now, before I tell you to remove your nasty being from my presence, I would like to know why you seem so tense around your sister." It was more of a demand than a question. She sighed and looked at her hands.

"Kane has always known how to rub me the wrong way. She may act all kind and flirty, but she's actually selfish and mean, wanting everything she sees. Obviously she laid eyes on you, but she doesn't know how much of an ass you are," she said, smirking slightly. Knives only glared at her.

"When Todd went after her, everything went sour between us. It isn't so much that she stole my boyfriend away from me, but the fact that she was too busy stating her wants and needs that she didn't attend to my father's funeral.

"I actually don't know if she knew that he died, but she obviously got wind of it when she came into town because she hasn't asked about him. She's not some prissy, rich snob because she does get into many fights and, like me, she can throw daggers right with perfect aim,"

"Wait. You throw daggers?"

"Yeah, but because I haven't practiced in over three years, my aim will be a little off. Much like you and Vash and your guns. We use to spar with swords, but our mom was always stressed about one of us accidentally getting hurt."

"Right, so where is your mother?" he asked, now curious about this knife throwing they did. Kale shrugged, careful of her shoulder.

"She lives somewhere up north. We write to each other occasionally, but not much. She's too busy to take the time to sit and do something so simple as a letter."

"Hmm, so why did you originally come out here?" She got up and stretched then smiled down at him.

"To tell you to stop acting like a brat and get your act together."

"Blasted garbage," he hissed. Kale laughed and pressed her fingertips against the back of his head and pushed, making him fall forward slightly.

He whipped around, clenching his fists. She walked away, her hips moving gently under the cloth of her night shorts. He blinked a few times and got to his feet.

"What are you doing?" he asked as she started to get comfortable on the couch. She peeked open an eye before closing it and draping a forearm over her eyes.

"Going to sleep, what does it look like?"

"No you're not."

"Yes, I am," she looked out from under her arm in confusion and irritation.

"No, you are not. You will not be sleeping here when your sister is in there. Now get up. If I must sleep in the same room as her then you will share my pain!"

"You'll have to force me into your God forsaken room!" Knives shrugged.

"So be it," he said and bent and scooped her up into his arms. She squeaked in surprise and glared evilly at him.

"On second thought, I can't stand looking at you," he said with a smirk and tossed her over his shoulder.

"Knives! Put me down this instant!" she hissed quietly, pounding on his back. He curved an arm around her legs to keep her from kicking the hall walls or him.

"Quiet!" he whispered and tightened his hold. He turned and pushed open his door slowly and peeked in. Kane's form was hidden beneath the covers, facing away.

He bent down and slid Kale off his shoulder and gave her a small push into the room. She returned the gesture by glaring evilly. Knives closed the door and grabbed Kale's upper arm before she could slide in next to her sister.

"Remember, touch anything that isn't yours and you die," he hissed next to her ear. Kale jerked out of his grip and glared.

"Look or even touch me while I'm asleep and you won't produce children for the rest of your ageless existence," she shot back, smirking.

Knives snorted and brushed past her. Kale slid in next to her twin and before she closed her eyes, she heard the sound of a drawer being opened.

Kale peeked over her sister's figure and watched silently as Knives pulled out a pen and some kind of leather book.

He walked over to the window and sat down on the sill. He leaned his back against the frame and propped up his left leg, bent at the knee so he could write against it, and his right leg draped over the sill. Kale stared.

Damn. When the guy isn't acting like a maniac or isn't wearing one of those arrogant smirks, he looks rather . . . cute. Oh my God?! What am I thinking?! . . . but he is cute . . . Damnit!

Kale shook her head and slid her head under the covers, the image of his relaxed face; passive form was still fresh in her mind. She sighed and quickly counted sheep to help her fall asleep faster.

Knives glanced out of the corner of his eye at the bed with the twin girls. When he thought it was safe, he slowly opened his journal and uncapped the pen. He flipped to the next fresh page and began writing down his thoughts.

~*~*~I must admit I am a little shocked that the human, Kale, has a twin sister, Kane. She is staying with us for a week or two, maybe even longer. No surprise there. Next thing I know, the human named Todd will want to stay. This is getting out of hand, it really is.

Especially now that I have been forced to have the two sleep in my room because they won't sleep in priest's room! I don't see anything wrong about sleeping in there.

Kale seems to have a nasty grudge against her sister. Earlier I had asked her about it and she had said that it was because of her attitude and the fact that she skipped her father's funeral.

It's not that I care about either of their problems, but I don't want them throwing any of my things around just because they have a fight.

Kale . . .

Hmm . . .

That human woman is a thorn in my side. She's sarcastic, smart-mouthed, filled with feminine evil, sly, rude, and seems to be a bit opened minded around me.

She's a much bigger handful than I had thought and now her twin sister is here. If she turns out to be like her I don't know what I will do.

Kale's wound has to go through another healing cycle because of the idiotic coward of a man. Todd. It seems he reopened the damned thing when he grabbed her earlier this afternoon.

I've also noticed that he acts superior around women because he sure as hell didn't put up a fight against me when I threatened him.

Why am I even writing about this? I should be happy that the wound was reopened! I should be disappointed that she didn't pass out or die from blood loss though there wasn't that much blood to begin with.

But I'm not. I feel nothing toward her at this moment. I haven't ever since I kissed the foul thing. I still don't know why I did that. I'm still confused as hell and very tempted to do it again.

Hell, I almost did kiss her again right after that idiot ran away. If it wasn't for her sister I might have had succeeded. Stupid woman. The only hatred I feel right now is only toward her kind, not her. I want to hate her. I want to cause her pain like the event in the kitchen a few days back.

But I can't.

I feel completely calm.

. . . the damned heat has finally gotten to me. I think I will go to bed now.~*~*~

Whatcha think? Yes, it's kinda earlier for a next chpt, >], but hey, I couldn't help myself. I'm seriously turning this fic into something sappy. I bet you all agree that I should have them fight more like they're supposed to.

I want them to fight. I want them to hate each other then come back together with a much stronger bond, stronger feelings toward each other, but I haven't found the right time yet Xx. I'm really trying people!

Also, people have asked if I'm gunna put a lemon. I've been thinking about it. It's up to you guys. Raise your hand if you think I should make a lemon?

*raises hand*
