It's About Life
By: Haruka-chan
AN: Hello! This is my third Trigun fic. As you all know I write Meryl/Vash fics in, which I throw in a little Wolfwood/Milly. I find Meryl's characters interesting so, I try and picture what it would be like for her life other then following Vas around, this next one will seem close to the other one that I have called "The black rose of Gunsmoke" but a little different. I hope you guys like it. ^_^
**Note: part of the little intro below is from the preview of episode 13, and I don't own songs, characters, and etc. used in this fic. Also this is somewhere between 14-16**
Time...separating people and places...what if you can run with time? Is that possible? If you only face forward, you can miss seeing something. It is a virtue to devote oneself to something, firmly believing in one's own ideals. But that doesn't mean it's all right to belittle the ideals and feelings of others. If you lead such a busy life, you may never realize how your parents feel. It's only self-satisfaction. It's all right to stop every now and then. If you want a moment's rest. If you want to feel what other people feel.
Sudden change of plans and new paradise found...Chapter 1
Meryl sat at the saloon table and sighed. Vash was stuffing his mouth with the doughnuts he had bought, and Wolfwood and Milly had been flirting with each other for the last 15 minutes, no wait the whole day. She felt like the little tag along with these three. "Hey Senpai what you think we should do for the rest of the night?" asked Milly. "I have some reports that I have to finish so why don't you guys go out," said Meryl. "Are sure you don't mind?" asked Milly. "I'm sure, and plus I'm sure Mr. Wolfwood and you would like some time alone" said Meryl. "What?" Milly asked looking towards Wolfwood who smirked, as she turned about 10 shades of red. Meryl chuckled at her partner's childish ways. *I wonder what is like to be her* thought Meryl looking at Milly laughing at something the bartender had said. "I'm going back to the hotel," said Meryl. Milly nodded and waved good-bye, and Wolfwood gave her a nod, Vash hardly noticed or that's what she thought. Meryl found herself staring at the dark sky the moons and stars shining as if taunting her 'Meryl your a fool' kind of way. "Yep never seem to out run that one," she said to herself as she walked slowly towards the 2 1/2 star hotels, even though it seemed like 2 stars. They have been staying in.
Meryl pushed open the door and walked in to the 'somewhat' nice but comfortable hotel room. She pushed herself towards her bed, where her suite case lied in it her precious typewriter. After taking it out and sitting down on the small table she had requested from the owner. She sat down and stared at the blank piece of paper. "So what do I have to write?" she said out loud. "I wonder if anyone even reads my reports filled with stuff that I write," she said with a closed eye. It was funny how people seem to run from what they were most naturally destined to do, how they fight to become something more, or something they want to be. Meryl chuckled *I ran away from a life that suited me so well* she thought as she leaned back in her chair and stared at the ceiling. "Strange, I have never doubted myself before...before I met him" said Meryl. It was true she has changed ever since she was given the job to follow 60 billion dollar man, but she found that she wouldn't trade her life now for anything, she liked it even with it's hard ships, stupid ness and unexpectedness. "Maybe I should just turn in for the night," she asked herself. Meryl chuckled "Or maybe I could go down to the saloon and play strip poker with some of the guys" she said laughing softly, but soon she erupted with laughter. The soft knock of the door made her stop. "Come in" she said. The door opened to the tall blond. "Mr. Vash?" she asked surprised. Vash gave her one his cocky smile. "Shouldn't you be down with the others having drinks?" she asked. "I saw you leave so wanted to know what's wrong, but then I heard you laughing...by yourself," he said giving her odd looks.
Meryl groaned in annoyance. "What was so funny?" asked Vash. "It was a thought that passed my more child like mind," she said. "So are old now?" he asked. "No! But I am not a girl am I?" she asked. "No" he said. "So where are you going off to next?" asked Meryl. "No where thought I'd stay here for a while" he said. "Really?" she asked. Vash nodded. Meryl pushed back on her chain and yawned. "Why?" she asked. "I was thinking it'll give Milly and Wolfwood some time to get it together" he said. "Wow you would stop what ever you are looking for just so Milly and Wolfwood can date?" asked Meryl. "Ahaha what can I say I am a hopeless romantic" he said. "If you mean hopeless in getting a girlfriend then yes, if you if mean in generally then your just an idiot" said Meryl. Vash did an anime fall. "Why are you so mean?" he asked with T_T teary eyes. Vash looked at Meryl's back when he heard her sigh as she looked out her window. "It's strange where life takes you, I mean one minute your living a normal life, next your in this adventure you can't help but like or hate" she said. "Do you miss your old life?" asked Vash sitting back down on her bed. Meryl turned towards him and flashed him one of her real smiles. "Sometimes moving on and taking on a new life is better then lingering in the past. Don't live the past in the present, live it in memories. That's what my mother told me" said Meryl. Vash looked at her and smiled. "So I do miss my old life but this suits too" said Meryl. "Your mother, doesn't she miss you?" asked Vash. "I'm sure she does, but I know I miss her like hell" said Meryl as a sad look came over her.
"So why don't you go visit her?" asked Vash. "I can't...its not possible and other then that I have you to follow around" she said. Vash sighed. "Why did you take this job anyways?" he asked suddenly. "I don't know to get away from things that I didn't want to do. I guess not to get stuck with a never changing life" said Meryl. "Yet you miss it?" asked Vash. "It's kind of confusing isn't it? The truth is I think I'm serious about everything. That life would have suited me so well, but I think I wanted to let lose, but I can't seem to do that" she said. "I can never be like you, or Milly or Mr. Wolfwood. People who live for the moment" said Meryl. "You really think I live for the moment?" asked Vash. "It seems so" said Meryl. Vash smiled and shook his head "Yea I guess your right" he said. Meryl smiled. "Too bad while you act that way you also act like an idiot" she said. "There it goes" he said. *KNOCK!KNOCK* "Come in" said Meryl. "Is this Meryl Strefy's room?" asked someone. Meryl got up and walked towards the door. "Yes, it me is there a problem?" asked Meryl. *Please don't tell me Milly already got drunk* thought Meryl. "Oh here there is a letter for you, just sign here" he said. "Thank you" said Meryl as the mailman waved good-bye. "It's not from work...oh!" said Meryl as she clamped her hand over her mouth.
"What happened?" asked Vash. Meryl's eyes just looked at the addressing. Meryl looked and gave him a small smile and shook her head. "Um...it's really nothing" said Meryl. "Is that from your woman's doctor, and now you have a disease, or is it that you lead a secret night life that the rest of don't know about and we are about have Meryl, jr.?" asked Vash. Meryl glared at him. "No moron it's nothing like that" said Meryl. "And if I was pregnant then you guys would noticed" said Meryl. "So have you ever...um...?" asked Vash looking at her. Meryl's eyebrows twitched together. "Am I a virgin?" asked Meryl. "Yea...that" said Vash. "No, Mr. Vash I am not" said Meryl. Vash smiled and nodded rubbing the back of his head. "What about you?" asked Meryl. "Nope" he said. Meryl closed her eyes and nodded. "Yes, I guess everyone scores at least once in their life no?" she asked. Vash smiled "Come on don't say it that way I feel dirty" he said. Meryl groaned and slowly opened the letter. She chuckled after she finished reading the piece of paper. Vash watched as something in her eyes changed, in the time that they have been traveling together it meant worry in blinking red lights. "I wonder when they are going to be back" said Meryl. "Who?" asked Vash lying down on her bed. "Milly and Wolfwood" said Meryl. "O" said Vash. Meryl rolled her eyes and sighed. "they just left it's be awhile until they come back" said Vash closing his eyes. Meryl stared at him. "How come your bed is more comfortable then mine?" asked Vash. "I don't know" said Meryl starting to type. She wondered if she would type "They are all idiots!" big and blond and then just send it in.
Vash watched her from the corner of his eyes and smiled. She looked cute when she was serious and into her work. He looked up at the ceiling it was when she started to hum a soft tune to herself and smiling did he turn towards her. She looked happy. He wondered if that letter was from her boyfriend, but found the thought disturbing. He watched her work, her legs swinging back and forth slowly as her hands moved fast on the keys. He closed his eyes. Meryl full blown on her work didn't notice Vash, until she got up to check on Milly. She smiled and took the blanket and pulled it over the blonde's body, she stood and found his face very cute, child like as he slept, her hand had a life of their own as he stroke his hair. The spiky hair actually soft and silk likes. She pulled her hand away and went back to work. It was about 8 in the morning did Meryl woke with her head on the table, with a blanket on her shoulder. She found a little note next to her from Milly telling her that they were back with a little mini Milly giving her the peace sign. Meryl chuckled and got up and walked towards Milly's room, but not before taking a five-minute start at the man in her bed. Vash woke to find that he was in Meryl's room by himself, he wondered if she went to his room to sleep, but then found the blanket on the chair and knew she was there, he frowned at the fact that she went through so much trouble, but he had a wonderful dream that Rem was here watching him sleep and that she pulled the blanket over him and ran her hand through his hair, it felt wonderful. He found the door slightly open. He got up and stretched and walked towards Milly's room to apologize to Meryl for taking her bed. Just as he was about to open it he heard Meryl talk. "Milly you'll have to help the guys out now, I'm going back home" she said.
"Senpai?" asked Meryl. "My father wants to speak with me" said Meryl. "Did he say about what?" asked Milly. Meryl shook her head. "He said that he wants to see me and that it's urgent" said Meryl. "Well, I'm going with you!" said Milly. Meryl looked at the hyperactive Milly sitting on her head in her Pjs' "Milly, I need you to take care of things for me" said Meryl. "Take care of what? We already know that Mr. Vash isn't dangerous, and Mr. Priest well there is nothing wrong with him, so what do I need to take care of?" asked Milly. "Of them, they might not be dangerous, but they do need someone to keep them out of trouble" said Meryl. "That's true, but I'm sure they will be happy to be own their own" said Milly. Meryl sighed. "There is no way to convince you is there?" she asked. "Nope! and anyways I always wanted to meet your family" said Milly. Meryl chuckled "Well your finally going to" she said. "I wonder how you mother looks or your father, are they as small as you?" asked Milly. Meryl's eyes contrasted to dots with few strand of hair sprounged out. "Does your mother have the same color hair as you?" asked Milly throwing all her things in to the suite case. -_-; Meryl sweat dropped and shook her head.
Vash leaned against the wall that was next to Milly's room. He let out a small painful chuckle. *I'm free finally then why don't I feel happy?* thought Vash. "What's with the long face?" asked Wolfwood walking out of his own room. "Huh? Oh nothing" said Vash. Wolfwood chuckled. "The small girl giving you grief?" he asked. Vash grinned "No, its just life" he said. Wolfwood nodded just as Meryl walked out. "Good morning" she said. Wolfwood looked at a Meryl in a pale blue dress. "What happened to your clothing?!" asked Wolfwood. Veins popped up in Meryl's head "I decided to change them" she said through clenched teeth. "They look good on you" he said. Meryl smiled her thanks but her gaze fell towards the ground. "I have something to tell you both" said Meryl. "What?" asked Wolfwood. "WE ARE TAKING A BREAK!!!" said Milly bursting out. Everyone's eyes turned to dots with sweat drops. "What Milly means is that She and I will be going to back to my home town for a while...so you guys are on your own" said Meryl. "What's with the sudden change?" asked Wolfwood. "My father wishes to see me to discuss important matters, and Milly wants to come along" said Meryl. Wolfwood went tears eyes. "How can you leave me behind big girl?" he asked. Milly patted his head. "You can come along too right Senpai?" asked Milly with a smile.
"Huh? Would you want to come along?" asked Meryl. "Why not, would love to meet your folks" said Wolfwood. "Sure why not" said Meryl. "Yay! Now all we need is Mr. Vash and we can all take a break!" said Milly. Vash smiles at the scene that Milly was making. Meryl's gaze falls once more as she waits for Vash's answer. "I think I better sit this one out" said Vash softly. Milly stops her cheers, and looks at Vash. Meryl continues to watch the floor. "What you mean Mr. Vash?" asked Milly. "It's not that I don't like you girls it's just that I want to be free again" he said as Milly came and grabbed him by the collar of his red coat. "Listen Mr. Vash were ALL going and you can't say anything against that! or...or...I'll hate you forever and I'll hunt your children and your children's children" started Milly. *Not that again* he thought. "Milly let him go...he has things that he needs to do, just like we do. We'll trust that he will stay out of trouble" said Meryl still with low gaze. "We will leave on the sand steamer that leaves to February City tonight" she said as she walked towards her room. "What's with her?" asked Wolfwood. "Oh Senpai..." said Milly. Vash watched as Meryl entered her room and closed it. Before Vash knew it he was being held up by a pissed of Milly. "Now lets talk like adults, either you come with us or I can make you come" she said. Vash's eyes took on SD (super deform) scared look. "Come on big girl let him down" he said. "No! I know Senpai...if he stays behind she'll worry for him, and she will make herself sick, if she worries so much" said Milly with tears in the corner of her eyes.
Vash had to admit that Milly was right she would worry for him, and carry more weight then what she already does. "I just can't risk any of you getting hurt" said Vash quietly. Milly sighed and shook a head. "It's too bad that you don't see her Mr. Vash" said Milly before going in to her own room. Vash's gaze fell. "You know the big girl is right" said Wolfwood. "I know" said Vash. For some reason Meryl's eyes watered. "What the hell is wrong with me?" she asked in a whisper when she very well knew what it was. "No! I won't let myself fall part!" she said to herself as she threw all her clothing in the little pink-wheeled suitcase. Vash in the next room heard her, and sighed as he looked out the window. Yeah this was a chance to be free, but then again he has been free, it's been him leading and them following. Today he didn't understand why he didn't feel all that great about letting her go, or about his freedom. Wolfwood and Milly is right, if he stayed behind even though it's not up to her to worry for him, she will any ways. People like her were hard to find these days. Vash flopped down on the bed and stared at the ceiling and sighed. *What should I do?* he asked. He sighed and stood up.
Wolfwood watched as Milly fumed about Vash, but she smiled at Meryl when she came by. "Is everyone read to leave?" asked Meryl. "Yeah, but why are we leaving already?" asked Milly. "Because by the time we go there and check in and all that good stuff, the sand steamer will be departing" said Meryl. Milly sighed and followed. "You know Mr. Wolfwood you don't have to come if you don't want to, I don't want you to feel forced" said Meryl. "What's this you're trying to get rid of me?" asked Wolfwood. "No just a thought, I am glad that your coming I think you'll really like at in my hometown" said Meryl. "What's it like?" asked Milly. "It's like paradise" said Meryl. "Wow I can't wait till we get there" said Milly. Meryl and Wolfwood both smiled. "This is going to be my first trip home since I left home to join the Bernardelli Insurance Company" said Meryl. "Wow Sepia that was over 7 years ago!" said Milly. "Yeah" said Meryl. "Why didn't you ever visit?" asked Wolfwood. "Didn't have a reason to" said Meryl. "What about you big girl have you visited your family?" asked Wolfwood. "Oh many time before we started to follow Mr. Vash" said Milly. "So he really put a stop on your normal life huh?" asked Wolfwood. "I wouldn't say that he just added the violence and occasional Meryl and Milly abuse" said Meryl. Wolfwood chuckled. "Yeah, but I like my life following Mr. Vash around we met a lot of wonderful people like you" said Milly. "That's true" said Meryl. "I don't understand that Tongari, what more could he ask for with you two, I mean sometimes I don't even think that you guys are really from the insurance company your so suited for this life" said Wolfwood. "Wow Mr. Wolfwood that means so much to us" said Meryl. Wolfwood flashed her his prize-wining smile.
Milly gasped. "What is it big girl?" asked Wolfwood. "Mr. Vash!" she said. Meryl's eyes instantly went the direction of Milly's hand. And there he stood with his red coat, and gold shades waving at them. *That Tongari! What the hell is he doing here?* thought Meryl. "Hey what you doing here?" asked Milly. "I was heading to aqua city'' he said. ''Senpai isn't that your near your home town?'' asked Milly. ''Yea just a few iles away" she said. Vash nodded and smiled "I guess were going the same way'' he said staring down at her. ''I guess so'' she said. Vash smiled. They checked in and boarded the sand steamer. Wolfwood insisted that he sits next to Milly, which left Meryl next either Vash or a very big man with 10 chins. She sighed and sat down next to the man known to her as a broom head. The night sky clear with stars spread out like a quilt to the clouds. Meryl smiled she felt excited. Vash saw the spark in her eyes as she sat with a small smile on her lips. Slowly the passenger all fell asleep and the only two up was Vash and Meryl. Vash watched as Meryl looked towards Milly who seem to be sleeping peacefully in Wolfwood's arms. "Don't worry if you go to sleep she won't disappear" said Vash. Meryl nodded as she leaned back on seat and closed her eyes, when she felt herself being pulled towards Vash's chest. "Just calm down, oh and thanks for letting me sleep on your bed" said Vash. Meryl nodded and closed her eyes. Vash was surprised that she didn't start yelling like crazy. He closed his eyes also.
When Meryl woke they saw people getting off and city looked much like February City, then she felt the arms around her she looked up and found a sleeping Vash. "Oh no" she said pulling away. Vash opened his eyes and looked at her. "What?" asked Vash. "You missed your stop" said Meryl. Wolfwood and Milly smirked from behind them. Vash smiled and shrugged. "I guess I'm coming with you guys then, come on let's get going I'm hungry" said Vash grabbing his bags and running out. Wolfwood and Milly following him and then Meryl who smiled and got down. "So how far is your house from here?" asked. Vash. "We have to rent a car" said Meryl as she walked towards the sings 'All Rentals' Vash, Milly, and Wolfwood followed. They rented a car and then they were off once more. They passed some houses kids and couples then they slowly started to enter an area that was green, which was the first surprise to the three other then Meryl. After 2 hours of driving Meryl stopped in front gate of a white mansion. "We are here" she said.
"WOW! Senpai that's your house?" asked Milly. Meryl nodded as she stood in front of the huge white beautiful mansion that was surrounded by plants and trees, the memories hit her like a sandstorm, she found her eyes getting teary. "Senpai?" asked Milly. Meryl laughed one of those teary laughs before she lunched herself for the house. "Lady Meryl!" said a woman in her late 40's waiting on the stairs of the house with a huge smile on her face. "Julia!" yelled Meryl running towards the woman. Meryl threw herself at the woman and laughed. "Oh look how beautiful you have gotten Lady Meryl" said the woman. "Oh Julia I missed you so much" whispered Meryl. "Silly girl, then why didn't you come before your father sent for you?" asked Julia stroking Meryl's head. "I couldn't not after what I did" she said. Julia smiled a sympathetic smile. *What did she do?* thought Vash. "It's about time huh?" asked Meryl. Julia nodded and smiled "It's about time" she whispered. Vash, Milly, and Wolfwood looked confused. "Are they your guest?" asked Julia. Meryl turned towards the three. "uhuh" she said in a childish way. "Well, welcome. Any friend of Lady Meryl is a guest of mine" said Julia. "Wow what a beautiful house you have Senpai. Is this your mother?" asked Milly. "No, she is the house keeper, and my mother's best friend" said Meryl. Julia smiled and nodded. "This is Milly Thomson she's my partner, Nicolas D. Wolfwood is a priest, and that is Vash the Stamped" said Meryl. "It's nice to meet all of you" she said. The three nodded and smiled. Vash was surprised she didn't start screaming after hearing his name. "Why don't all of you come in I'm sure it was a tiring trip" said Julia.
Inside Milly once again raved about how beautiful it was. "Please take a seat, I will bring you something to drink" said Julia. "Wow small girl this is a nice place, who would have thought you were the daughter of a rich man" said Wolfwood. "Yeah" said Meryl as she sat and looked around. "Julia who was at the door?" asked a deep voice. Meryl stood as the person came to stand in front of them. "Daddy..." said Meryl as she walked towards the tall man dressed in a suite. "Meryl" he said as his daughter stood in front of him. "You have grown" he said. Meryl choked on what to say to him. "Yeah, but you still look the same" she whispered. He chuckled. "Nothing ever changes here" he said. Meryl took another step towards him. "I am sorry that I did" she said as he wrapped his arms around her. "Feels like I am holding you for the first time" he said. Meryl nodded. "Hey he's tall too! then it must have been her Mom that was short!" said Milly. Mr. Stryfe looked up and noticed the others that were also in the room. Meryl did an anime fall. "Daddy meet my partner Milly Thomson, 'Mr. Priest' Nicolas D. Wolfwood, and my job Vash the Stamped" said Meryl. Mr. Stryfe just looked at his daughter's friend with a smile and surprise. "Nice to meet all of you, my home is open for you, and we even have a celebrity" he said looking at Vash. "Daddy is something wrong with you?" asked Meryl. "No not all!" said Mr. Stryfe. Meryl looked concern "Then what was so concerning that you asked me to come as soon as possible?" asked Meryl. "So you didn't really want to come?" he asked. "No! It's not like that...it's just I was worried" said Meryl. "Oh that can wait! Right now you should relax with your friends. I'm sure it was a hard trip here" he said. "Daddy..." said Meryl. "Meryl if I know you then you haven't gone on one vacation since you started your job" he said patting her shoulder. "That's right Mr. Stryfe, Senpai hasn't taken not one day off since she started to work" said Milly. "No wonder she's a lose canon waiting to burst" said Wolfwood. "Thanks a lot guys!" said Meryl with veins popping on her head.
Mr. Stryfe laughed. "Daddy, I took only two weeks off, so what ever it is you should tell me now" said Meryl. "Two weeks is enough time and more" he said and walked off. "Daddy..." said Meryl. "Don't worry Lady Meryl, he's been like that with me too, to care free for my liking. The Stryfe family is known for there strict ways, well maybe except your mother" said Julia setting the glasses of drinks and other things down. "So it's a family trait to blow up every five minutes" said Vash. Meryl sent a glare at him and sat down also. "Do you think he is planning to get married?" asked Meryl. "I doubt it" said Julia. "Why?" asked Meryl. "Your father hasn't looked at another woman since your mother" said Julia. Meryl sighed. "Meryl told me you liked pudding so I got you my home made" said Julia handing Milly a bowl full. Milly's eyes watered "Oh Senpai you talk about me?" she asked between sniffs. "She talks about all of you" said Julia. Meryl let out a small smile. "Mr. Vash you like doughnuts, I already sent someone to run to the bakery to get you some" said Julia. Vash got in to one of his SD's and hugged Julia. "Though I don't know what you like" said Julia. "Don't worry about his likes, it's a health hazard" said Meryl. "Hey small girl!" said Wolfwood. "It's quite hot even though it doesn't compare to the desert" said Julia. "It's no wonder Senpai wanted to help out the Nebraska family. She knew what it's like living on a patch of green" said Milly.
"So when you said paradise you meant this huh?" asked Wolfwood looking out the large bay windows. "How do you keep these trees and plants alive?" asked Vash. "It's natural growth, this part of planet doesn't dry because the heat doesn't reach it as much. We only get radiation from one sun, which is strange but who is complaining when you could look at something of a different color other then you usual gold" said Julia. "It just so happens my father's land happen to fall on the largest Arcadia patch on this side of the planet" said Meryl. "That's really interesting" said Vash. "Yeah the stranger things is that the clouds hid the other two moons making only one moon visible here, it's like having the old planet gaia here" said Julia. "Planet Gaia?" asked Wolfwood. "The sister planet to Gunsmoke" said Vash. Meryl nodded "Planet Gaia or as the ancients called it Earth, had only one moon and got radiation from one sun, making the perfect place to live" said Meryl. "Wow, it sounds cool" said Milly. "If you like, we have many book about planet Gaia in the study" said Julia. Vash looked out the window, he smiled when he felt the cool breeze hit his face. *I remember this kind of land and weather, but with this joy comes the worry about something else* he thought. "How about all of you refresh, and well have lunch out by the sore" said Julia. "The Sore?" asked Milly. "You'll love it" said Meryl. Milly nodded. "Oh Mr. Wolfwood do me a favor and don't smoke, it's bad for us not that you care, but it's bad for this sort of environment" said Meryl. "Lady Meryl be nice!" said Julia. "Sorry Julia" said Meryl.
Wolfwood and Milly made there way up. "Mr. Vash I wanted to thank you for coming along" said Meryl. "I'm glad I came other wise I would have missed this" he said. "I hope you like your stay here, and sorry that I am stopping you from what ever place you have to be" she said. "You know what I think it was about time I followed you, instead of you following me around, I think I don't appreciate you and Milly enough" said Vash. "Touching, but then again your a real softy" she said with a smile. Vash smiled "I like it here, reminds me of my time with Rem" said Vash. "I'm glad" said Meryl. Julia smiled from the corner where she watched. *She's growing up so fast* she thought. "Come on you better take a shower, other wise you can't truly enjoy your meal. Julia is the best cook" said Meryl. "I bet" said Vash following Meryl up the stair that lead to the bedrooms. "So where is your mother?" asked Vash. Meryl stopped and her gaze fell. "She passed away 17 years ago" whispered Meryl. "I'm sorry" said Vash. "I know, the truth is I never really got to know the woman who changed the way in this house" she said quietly. "I bet you're just like her" said Vash. "Huh?" asked Meryl. "You change people around you" said Vash. "I thought that's what you do" she said chuckling. "No but I think you do in a way that people don't seem to notice until to late" he said. "How would you know?" asked Meryl. "I speak from experience" he said. Meryl froze and looked at him, before she found her cheeks getting warm. "Hey Big girl which one is our room?" he asked putting an arm around Milly and winking. Meryl laughed and pointed to two door right next to each other. "The door are adjoined so..." said Meryl with a wink. "Senpai!" said Milly. "What you know the girl isn't all that naive after all" said Vash. Milly glared and walked in to her room.
Meryl just smiled after her friend. "So which one is mines?" asked Vash. "This one" said Meryl. "Where do you sleep?" he asked. "Oh right next door to you" she said. Vash smiled and nodded and walked inside his room. Meryl walked slowly in as she felt her cheeks burn once more. She suddenly found herself having other feeling for this man she was order to follow around, emotions that maybe she shouldn't have at all. Meryl shook her head in denial as she walked toward the bathroom. There was no way she could be falling for her 'job' nope no way in hell. Vash entered his room and noticed the adjoining room they also shared, he smiled. So he wasn't the only one who had lost someone and still lived with the pain. Somehow he felt good that she had shared the fact that she lost her mother with him, he felt good about what they shared. Strangely he felt something more for her now. He sighed, but what ever he felt had to be pushed away in order for him to keep her safe, in order for less death. Vash sighed yup this was the life he leads, where people he cared for were killed.
