Prolog: Awakening
Vash pulled the trigger. It was the only thing he could do; he had to stop Legato somehow. With that action sealed Legato's fate. He fell over dead and the people stopped attacking. Vash felt so wrong. Why, why did it have to come to this? Damn you Knives! From a cliff above, a hunched over figure leered at the seen. Taking one small almost microscopic needle from its pouch. A quick hand sent the small needle into the neck of Legato.
Legato was buried later that day.
Dark, so dark, am I under ground? Legato pushed his way out of the dirt hole and looked up at the night sky. I'm alive. Why? Suddenly felt someone hit him at the base of his head. Everything went black as he fell to the desert floor.
Something roused Legato from his sleep. Gold eyes blinked taking in the view. He was lying down in a field of green grass. An assortment of flora surrounded this strange paradise. Legato reached up and touched his head, nothing, as if he had never been shot. Am I in some sort of afterlife? Legato rose and turned around to be faced by a little girl. Purple tresses donned her head reaching to her waist. She had the most peculiar violet eyes that almost matched her hair. A sweet smile played on her petite lips that were accompanied by rosy cheeks. A simple blue and white dress with white ruffled socks and black shoes were her outfit. And hanging in her left arm was a rag doll with blonde hair and matching clothes. She looks like a life-size doll. The girl laughed and ran to Legato hugging his upper thighs. She only came to his waist. And from there she looked up and raised her hands begging for him to pick her up. This astonished him, in his life very seldom had he been taken by surprise, and this is one of those times. Upon not answering her request the girl backed away, sat down, and put her face in her hands as if she meant to cry, but no sound came. Legato knelt down and reached out to the child, but as if she were a mirage, she faded away as soon as his hand touched her.
" Tsk tsk. Mustn't touch, lest thou corrupt that which is pure. Only when thy self is pure, might thou lay hand on purity."
Legato spun around trying to find the owner of this angelic voice " Who are you, and where am I."
" I am Child." The voice said behind him Legato turned once more and met the child, " My master has asked me to bring you here and give you an invitation."
" Your master? Invitation? What is going on here, I died."
" Yes and now you've been resurrected to serve your ultimate purpose."
" How?"
" The secret to the Redeemer is a secret to everyone but the Master."
" What is the Redeemer?"
" The chemical that preserves the body immediately after death, so that it may give it life once more. Sorry we had to bring you here under such force. But we couldn't fix you if you were conscious."
" Fix me?"
Child pointed to her right temple, " But now you're all better. Honestly Knives was a fool for his ideals and for what he did to you. A creature with potential like yours should not be thrown away like garbage, it's wasteful. Now my master will put you to correct use. That's all you want anyway. Someone to follow, some sort plan that will end all your internal suffering."
Legato narrowed his eyes; " You are definitely no child."
" You are correct about that assumption. But I am your new partner if you wish to join us."
" Who? You have said we, but I see no one other than you and I."
" My master silly, and all of my comrades. See, Knives hasn't realize that you cannot destroy the human race. And that is why he shall fall in a few days time. But my master knows better. Fate has allied itself with humans making them an almost unstoppable force, a virus rather. Now we merely wish to change the virus, change it into something more useful to this world. That's what my master is all about, putting things to good use."
Legato had to admit that he was fairly interested. And wanted to meet this master of hers'.
" I would like to meet your master."
" And so you shall, but no one meets Master unless they are within Its allegiance."
" It."
" There is no true identification for what Master is, so wonderful, so fulfilling. You will understand soon enough, whether you join us or not."
" This is an interesting prospect, I believe I will join you."
" Then come," she pivoted and began walking up a grass hill, " you must be purified before you meet the Master."
Author's Note:
I tried to make this interesting as possible. It seems like all begins are a little uneventful to me. But I guess it depends on what uneventful means to you. Anyway, please read and review.
