Vash pulled away slowly, his hard expression concealing his utter surprise. He had never met anyone who would stand up to him and not be at least somewhat afraid, well maybe a few men but they were armed so that did prove their cowardice. He found nothing on this tiny woman that convinced him that she was armed.

"Is that so?" he asked, trying to confirm if she was actually telling the truth and not being some drunkard that he really thought she was. She straightened herself and tilted her chin up.

"That's right," she declared. He eyed her for a moment then grinned devilishly. He turned slightly away and looked over the fear-stricken faces of the people watching them.

"Well then, what if I said I refuse to have you dogging me?"

"Then you have another thing coming because you definitely have no say in this. You had your chances, Mr. Vash."

He tossed his head back and laughed. Oh, the woman was full of bravado, that's for sure and he couldn't help but admire it somewhat. She was doing what no sane man would do and that was stating orders and expecting him to obey with good behavior.

How shocked she will be when he shows her that he is everything but well behaved.

He reached into the large pocket of his blood-red coat and wrapped his long fingers around the butt of his gun. Oh, how he was going to enjoy this.

He pulled it out slowly, the lights causing the silver weapon to glint and gleam ominously. A few gasps were heard and everyone's frightened gaze locked onto the revolver, even Meryl's.

"You see this here?" he asked coolly, flicking it open.

He dug around in his other pocket and pulled out a short, fat cylinder with a nub on the bottom. He placed it evenly against the small, rounded spaces and pressed his thumb against the nub, pushing the bullets out and into his gun.

He put the now useless item back into his pocket then spun the barrel, watching it for a moment before snapping it closed again. He lifted the gun higher so everyone could get a good look at its beauty and know its deadly purpose.

Meryl swallowed hard, eyeing the large revolver in the outlaw's hand. He seemed proud of it, the way he looked over it with admiration.

She frowned inwardly at the thought of him using it right at that moment. She may be a woman, a mouse compared to him, but she wasn't a fool or lacked courage when it came to other people's lives.

"Yeah, I see it, so what?" she said, placing a hand on one hip.

Vash lowered the gun and pointed at a random person. The woman screamed and covered her head with her arms, fearing she was about to die.

Instead, he cupped the bottom of the butt as he gripped it with the other and made a clean sweep around the room, an eye closed as he watched intimidated expressions contorted to terror.

"I could kill each and every one of these pathetic cowards under a minute and I wouldn't mourn over any of them. You wouldn't like that, would you?" He lowered his arms and turned completely to her, his green eyes alive and dangerous.

She felt compelled to answer him, but she didn't know how he would react. If she said yes, would he murder everybody so he could prove just how heartless he was? What if she said no? Would he still do it and laugh? She kept her mouth shut, but she was sure her eyes couldn't hide the truth answer.

His smile turned into a knowing smirk and he pointed a gun randomly at the crowed, his eyes still locked with hers. The thunderous boom reverberated off the walls when he pulled the trigger.

A cry of alarm slipped past Meryl's lips, along with many others', and her eyes slid along the smoking gun, into the direction it was pointed in. A man was frozen in his chair, eyes wide in horror. Just centimeters above his head there was a small, bullet hole with smoke rising faintly from it.

Meryl gapped. Had he miss intentionally? If so, how could he have had done it without even looking? What if he was trying to kill the man and his aim was just slightly off? It sure looked like it. Her widened gray eyes focused on the tall, devilish man standing before her.

"H-how did you do that?" she stuttered without thinking.

"I had already done a scan of the room," he said matter-of-factly.

"You did it on purpose then. To scare me and everyone else," she whispered darkly, her eyes becoming cold and hard as steel.

"If only you could have seen the look on your face," he laughed, telling her that she had guessed right. Her face turned a shade of red as her blood boiled with rage.

"You jackass!"

He only chuckled and turned to his silent audience. He stretched out his long arms and smiled, watching each and every person. They focused on him and him only, all waiting to see what he just might do next.

"As you know and probably witnessed, I am Vash the Stampede also known as the Humanoid Typhoon. I won't deny my crimes but I won't admit as to why I do it. All you need to know right now is that this woman behind me is to be my prison guard or something along those lines. She's supposed to watch me and stop me from doing anyone or anything harm ever again. Now, if she is to be doing that then explain why my gun went off?"

When no one answered he turned to Meryl and continued, "That's right. She couldn't have stopped me, period. No one can."

"W-what are y-y-you getting a-at Mr. V-Vash, sir?" the bartender asked, his back pressed flat against the shelves. Vash stared at the man and smirked.

"What I'm saying is, if she continues to keep bothering me, I will have no choice but to kill all of you one by one, just to prove how much of a help this tiny woman is!"

"What?! How dare you! I'll have you know--" Meryl started hotly, but was interrupted by loud murmuring of the people.

"So you will leave us alone if we get rid of her?" a woman called out. Meryl spun around, mouth open in utter shock and offensiveness.

"It's that or I will give you a bullet to the head, miss," Vash called back. More loud whispers and then shouts of agreement.

"You have a deal, Mr. Vash!" a man called out. Meryl was completely offended and stunned by all this. They were making a deal with this monster? This devil in a red coat? How dare they!

"Hey!" she shouted when two men stepped up and grabbed one arm in each of their grasps. "Let go of me! I'll have you know that I can sue you for this! PUT ME DOWN, NOW!" she screamed as they lifted her from the floor and walked to the exit.

Vash placed his revolver back into his pocket and leaned against the bar, setting his elbows on it. He snorted in amusement and shouted, "She has quite a set of lungs and big mouth to go with it for such a small person! Huh? Huh??" Everyone laughed with him, some not finding it funny at all, but they all thought it was best not to upset him in anyway.

"Put me down! Put. Me. Do-gah!" Meryl was tossed out of the door and she landed face first onto the dusty ground. She sat up and coughed, wiping her face. She turned and shook her fist as the men retreated back into the cool building.

"You jerks! You'll be regretting this!" But they were already inside. She pushed to her feet and angrily dusted herself off.

Laughter rose louder as she stalked back to the inn and she was sorely tempted to run back in there, just to see if Vash really would take up his threat. If so, she wouldn't mind at all to see some of those people fall to the ground dead.

Meryl stopped abruptly. Needless to say, she was quite dismayed by the evil thoughts that raced through her mind. She shook her head hard and stepped inside the inn. She was supposed to be thinking up ways to protect the people, not get them murdered!

"Welcome back, miss," the innkeeper greeted. She grunted a hello and whisked past the desk and toward her room, leaving the elderly woman in confusion.

Meryl slammed the door as hard as she could when she entered her small room. She was tired, hungry, and thoroughly pissed off. So she paced around the room to vent some of the anger or at least tire her so much that she would just sleep it off.

She was about to get undressed when a thought struck her. His room.

"Hmm," she hummed and walked out into the hall. If she couldn't get it through his thick head that she wasn't going to give up in front of other people, then she would do it in the privacy of his own room.

She stopped at a door at the end of the hall and prayed that it wasn't locked. She reached out and turned the doorknob. The door pushed open. She smiled and stepped inside, closing it behind her.

His room was much like hers. Small and plain looking. The only thing different was that there was a tall, brown leather knapsack sitting by the bed. She glanced around her as she advanced it. She sat down on the bed and pulled it up onto the bed. It was very heavy.

"Well, seeing how he isn't around to stop me," she mused as her fingers plucked at the knotted drawstrings.

She pulled it open and took a peek inside it. There were a lot of normal looking items in it: a couple of half full bottles of alcohol, a pair of boots, other items of clothing, a toothbrush, toothpaste, a comb, some gel, some wrapped up food, a blanket, and few carving knives.

Meryl blinked when her hands touched something large and cool. Her nose wrinkled with confusion as she grasped it and dragged it out. No doubt it was what was making the bag so damn heavy.

She gasped when she looked it over. It was the exact duplicate of the gun he had used, except instead of it being the shiny silver it was a deathly black.

"Wow," she mumbled absently as she turned it around in her hands and ran her fingers over its smooth, polished surface. "Wonder why he has another one? He seems capable enough to kill hundreds with that other one."

After taking her fill in the fascinating weapon, she placed it back into the sack and pulled the strings then tired them back up again.

She placed it back on the floor and pulled her feet up onto the bed. All she had to do now was wait until Mr. Typhoon came back. She placed her hand over her mouth as she let out a long yawn.
