Blaze rounded a corner to find Abel trying to make his way down the hallway. He was swaying dangerously and holding on to the wall for support. She sighed and rolled her eyes then went to help him.

“Damn it, Abel, do I have to tie you to the bedpost?”

“I'm not being stubborn, Blaze. I swear it.”

“Then why the hell are you out of bed?”

“Cain's here,” he said, trying to get her to turn him back around.

“Wow! He's dumber than I thought he was. That's really saying something,” she gave up trying to get Abel to move back to the room of his own accord and just phased them both there. “Bed. Now. I'll deal with Cain. Why do I always end up with identical twins who are polar opposites?”

“What makes you say that?” Abel asked curiously, settling under the covers.

“I have two sets in the Red Shaman team. Both sets happen to be redheads and the younger set are the sons of one in the older twins. Not that it's confusing or anything. Rest. Don't worry about Cain,” she said before disappearing.

“How can I *not* worry about him,” Abel said to himself. He tried getting out of bed again only to have the room tilt and spin. His wings flared out only to sink back in again several times within a few minutes. “I hate being helpless.”

Outside, Cain paced back and forth in front of the gates of the property. He had tried to get inside several times only to be repelled by the strength of the barriers placed on the home and grounds. Oh the bitch was going to pay for this and pay dearly, he thought. First interfering with his plans for Abel and now this.

“Have you lost what little is left of your mind, Cain?”

He whirled and managed to grab her by the throat, pushing her into the pillar holding the gate. She merely stood there looking at him as though he was an idiot before he was thrown backward onto the ground several meters away.

“Oh, honestly,” she snorted. “What do you want?”

Cain stood and brushed the dirt off of his clothes before approaching her much more cautiously. “All I want is to have my subordinates returned to me.”

“And you're presuming I have them because . . .”

“One of them just walked out of the compound and disappeared. The other was grabbed thirty feet outside of his own room *inside* our home. I can't think of anyone short of you who has enough power to do that,” he snarled through clenched teeth.

“Well, I'm flattered that you think so highly of my abilities, Cain. But I don't know what you're babbling about. I don't have any members of your little group. If I did have them I would have contacted you directly just to taunt you with that information. Now go home. I have more important things to worry about than you losing track of your playthings.”

Cain growled and looked like he wanted to attack her but thought better of it. “This isn't over, Mother. Not by a long shot.”

She shrugged. “Of course not. But this conversation is,” she said, vanishing and leaving Cain to fume outside the gates.

Upon arriving in Abel's room again she was greeted by a strange sight. A young man with long red hair was just picking Abel off of the floor and back into bed again. Abel was only semi conscious and mumbling something about needing to help.

“He just isn't bright when it comes to knowing his own limitations, Goddess,” the young man said, shooting her a grin over his shoulder. “He's really out of it. Kept saying he was seeing an angel.”

“He *was* oh great and mighty archangel Camael. What are you doing here?”

“Mother asked me to stop in and see if you needed any more help,” he said, flipping an errant lock of red hair back from his face as he turned around to fully look at her.

Blaze hugged him then drew back and smiled. “I'll probably call in the full team later but I don't need everyone just now. It is good to see you though.”

“It's good to see you as well. Things have been so hectic everywhere lately it's hard to keep track of my family.”

“Speaking of family, have you seen your father in the past few days?”

“No. Why? What did he do this time?”

“Two of Cain's subordinates have turned up missing. Since one was apparently taken without protest and the other just walked out to his own kidnapping it stands to reason it was arranged by someone incredibly strong. I'm not certain it was him but it stands to reason it was either him or Star since they're the only two telepaths I know capable of pulling something like this off.”

He chewed thoughtfully on his bottom lip for a moment. “I'd try Aunt Star then. I think Dad is too busy trying to find ways to kill Mother's new husband to worry about kidnapping.”

Blaze sighed and shook her head. “My entire team is crazy. What does his husband say about it?”

“He laughs and reminds Dad that since both of them are already dead trying to kill him is a moot point.”

“I don't think the rivalry will stop any time soon. They've hated eachother for centuries now.”

“That's true. I have to get going,” he said, leaning to kiss her on the cheek. “Make sure that one stays in bed.”

“I may have to tie him to the bed for that,” Blaze said.

“I'll volunteer to help keep him in bed once I get the time. But I don't think he'd heal very well if I do,” he said with a wink. “He's very pretty. Especially with the wings.”

She slapped him playfully on the shoulder. “Bad angel.”

“Every chance I get. I'll talk to Dad about the kidnappings.”

“Thank you. Tell the family I love them.”

“Will do,” he said before disappearing.

“Blaze?” came Abel's voice from the bed. “I think I need a healer.”

She came and sat on the edge of the bed. “What makes you say that?”

“I think I'm hallucinating.”

“No. You aren't. Get some sleep, Abel. And don't make me tie you to that bed.”

Takara closed the door and turned to find herself face to face with Star.

“So, how'd it go?”

“Perfect. You are really scary sometimes, you know,” Takara said. “I'm still trying to figure out what you did to Dietrich to make him so afraid of me.”

Star shrugged. “Just rerouted a few neurological pathways of memory. Don't worry, he won't recognize those thoughts as being false until well after this is all over with. Did you get all the information you need from him yet?”

“Almost. There are still a few things I need from him. Seriously though, why is it that he's both terrified of me but still doesn't want me to leave him?”

“He's weak and needs a strong leader to tell him where to go and what to do. The other one is a leader but not completely, there's still that side of him that requires a firmer hand as guidance. If either one of them happened to be a complete top this would have been much harder. As it is they're both very strong willed. You just have to know the right buttons to push. Speaking of pushing buttons, get to push any on the hot bot?”

“Star!”

“I'll take that as a no.”
