Chapter One- Plans and Women
“Father Nightroad!” A resident sister called as she ran hurriedly down the hall after him.
“Yes? You called?” Father Nightroad replied stopping and turning to face the orderly nun.
“Sister Kate wants you in her office; she has something for you…” The sister huffed, catching her breathe from the brief run down the hall. The nun then curtsied, and ran off in the direction she came, obviously done with her part of the deal.
`I wonder what it could be this time…' Abel thought to himself as he straightened his robes and headed towards Sister Kate's; the head nun's office. One he got there, he timidly knocked on the door. Sister Kate usually gave Abel his orders, and he usually messed them completely up. So now-a-days, Abel was a bit hesitant to come to her summons.
“Come in” A curt voice replied. He opened the door, and walked slowly in.
“You called for me Sister Kate?” Abel started.
“Yes, I did Abel. I have another job for you….” She replied, hands clasped in front of her on the desk.
“I don't suppose I'll be getting any denaros for this will I?” Abel asked.
“Yes, we'll give you some money; you'll be going with Astharosthe. You two will have to split the money, and go cheaply. I need you to travel to Paris for me.” Sister Kate replied matter-of-factly.
“What is it I'm going for exactly?”
“You're going to catch a rogue Methuselah by the codename “Ruby”. She's very dangerous; she got her name from leaving behind rubies on the persons or person that she has just killed. Kind of like a payment for the blood taken. The last case, the victim was found with the head practically severed, but an autopsy revealed that the victim was still alive at the time the head was almost sliced off. She has fun torturing her human victims before she ends it. At this point in time we're unsure whether she's in with the Empire of not, but current records are showing not. Just remember to be safe, you'll leave tomorrow morning. Good day Abel.” Kate replied, putting her head down to return to her daily logs.
Abel knew better than to not leave when so obviously dismissed, so he turned and walked out of the office, as quietly as possible so as not to disturb Sister Kate's work. God, how she was grumpy when she was interrupted. He turned to the left, and proceeded down the corridor when he ran into none other then Asth-San herself. Or so he called her, to which she usually striked him hard in the back of the head. `It could be worse,' He thought to himself. `She could actually use her strong hand'
“Why hello there Astharoshe, fancy meeting you here this morning…” Abel began before she cut him off.
“Cut the crap, what is it Nightroad? “ Astharoshe curtly asked. `Ouch” Abel thought. `Bad mood today…'
“Well actually, I was wondering if you heard about our little trip to France we'll be taking. We're leaving tomorrow.”
“Oh, that. I heard. Well I guess I'll see you tomorrow morning then Nightroad.” Astharoshe said, and stalked off in the opposite direction.
`I wonder what was wrong with her…' Abel thought as he gazed up at the ceiling of the hall, in a complete daze.
`Ah, well. I'll never understand them. Women.'
