the darkest of nights. . . . .
by: Javillan Issthiss.
The only thing worse than fear, is fear itself. . . .-anonymous
By my soul, the worst thing that my mind has concocted would be the night four years ago. But it was not my mind that concocted that horrible night, it was my own doing that he was captured. But oh, does that night linger in my mind. My youngest friend had dispatched himself from me by the belief I was mad. But no. . .I would never provoke that I would be such a animal as many believed. Those that surrounded me were the insane but that was no sure reason for me to be mad.Mad. Hah! I spit at the word. The only madness is of man be damned.
The last wish of my dying will be that my asylum go to those that need it. The insane. The ones like myself, that witnessed with their own eyes to true cause of human insanity, thus becoming insane themselves.
If I could go back in time I would erase the madness that I thus being myself have caused. I wish I could go back and save him, from that monster. The human body is only able to handle so much. When pressed off the edge you become something . . . Unnatural. Horrid. Harrowing.
Something that any human in his right mind would dare to shun, to exploit, . . .to ravage. My friend had to face the horrid fate of that at the hands of a monster.
This is his story.
YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
Marlo was an average boy.
Unless you considered the possibility that he was kind hearted , and Handsome at the same level of a degree.
He had lightly tan skin, barely past sun kissed; Honey colored eyes and a messy head of blond hair that was usually messy but almost neat. His body was lithe and muscled with strong legs and lean build. All in all, pretty cute.
Marlo was turning 18 that month when a colleague asked if he would mind joining him on a trip to the asylum for Windsbury hall.
Marlo , being the kind, sweet, innocent youth that he was, Accepted.
&~*~*~*~*~*~
“So Marlo, .. . . Found anyone that fits your fancy?” Louis asked with a small smile.
“Five people have asked me to marry them.” Marlo said as he made his way down the thin winding hall way. “But two were rapist, one a mental man that believed I was an angel and the other two were men with those helmets one. The ones with the muzzle and collar.”
“Whoa, Four more than me. I was asked by a woman if I was Satan finally come to liberate her back to the outside world.” Louis chuckled. “If my marriage doesn’t work out then I can come back here.”
Louis was a fine young man. Considered a man because he was the youngest graduate at the university, who graduated with a record age of 15. He had shoulder length Black hair which he kept in a ponytail and he had black eyes that were cold to those he hated, and warm to those that were close to him. He were black daily and had a tall thin, but masculine frame. He would look like the Tall man in black to many except those that knew he could be soft sometimes. His fiancé was Claudia, a young woman he met while doing field work . She was sick with a horrible fever and he cured her. Claudia fell in love with him in the short duration that they were together.
“Yeah, but Claudia would chase your ass back home.” Marlo snickered.
“Speaking of Claudia, what did you get from her yesterday?” He asked, his tone unwavering.
“What? Oh! That. . . . . . Well it was nothing.” Marlo said, a blush on his cheeks. Louis hearing the tone of his obviously wavering voice, stopped ahead of him and tapped his foot on the ground, waiting for an answer.
“Marlo.” Louis said in a threatening tone.
“Louis. Seriously, we only talked. She gave me.. . . . Something and I just held on to it.”
“What was it?” he questioned, raising a fine delicate black eyebrow. His eyes once soft were now cold.
“Nothin’”
“Tell me.” Louis commanded.
“It wasn’t anything, I swear.”
“So help me god, Marlo, I will send you to one of these cells with a rapist that will tear out your insides!” Louis said, his tone rising.
Marlo gulped. Louis knew he was a virgin, and if he was raped. . . . .
He shuddered. I’m inexperience and what if I am scarred for life.
Marlo clutched his head. The images. The pain. Stop it!
“It was a novel about this guy that marries someone they never met and when they meet it was his cousin , who was a guy ,and together they were married to be bound forever and now their relation ship is so horrible that the it seems like the world is out to get them.” Marlo breathed in.
Louis softened.
“Good. As long as that is all she gave you.”
“That’s all.” Marlo said nodding vigorously.
“Good.” Louis pointed down the hall and to a cell as they approached. “This is my patient. His name is Kim. Kim, this is Marlo. Kim say hello to Marlo.”
Marlo stepped forward and looked inside the cell. A young boy was curled up, his hands around his chestnut colored hair and a knees pulled up to his chest. His ears were bloody and on the floor he could clearly see a spoon covered in dried blood. His ears were pointed. Kim had skin that clung to his bones, betraying every muscled, rib and bone.
“H-hello.” He whispered, his voice hoarse.
“. . . Louis, what’s wrong with him.”
“NOTHING IS WRONG WITH ME! MY LORD DAVID WILL COME FOR ME AND WITH HIM HE WILL BRING DEATH TO THIS HORRIBLE PLACE.” Kim Screamed at the top of his lungs and lunged at the bars of his cell. Many of the other inhabitants began banging and clapping and cheering for the boy. Touched by his short speech. Kim was shaking the cell door and the cell was ricocheting back in forth with his motions. Marlo stepped back, fear from what the child could do, but Louis merely shrugged it off.
“You haven’t had your Medicine yet and you haven’t been fed.” Louis took out his pocket watch. “Twelve more minutes, Kim.”
Kim, not hearing anything continued to bash on the cell.
“Don’t worry Marlo. This ‘David’ of his isn’t real.” Louis said with a smile.
“But Louis. . . Look at him. . . .I’ve never seen someone.. . . The cell is actually moving. What if he’s. . .” Marlo’s eyes widened at the sight before him.
“Look, Marlo, there’s nothing wrong. All mental patients show physical power at certain points, that’s why we have to give them shots.” Louis said. “After dinner, we can watch him calm down. He’s insane, Marlo. That’s why he’s here. That’s why we are chosen to study and help him overcome his delusional state.” Louis patted him on the back. “C’mon, Dr. Harper won’t wait forever.” Louis said calmly as if Kim were only a child throwing a tantrum for a toy.
“Okay.” Marlo said allowing himself to be pulled away.
But even as he went further and further away from the cell, Kim’s words echoed of the walls of his memory.

(That Night).
Kim was rocking back and forth. Back and forth. An effortless thing to do, but to him it was all there was to do. Louis had come back and commanded that the spoons be replace with the smaller spoons that were too small to be any harm. Kim clutched his ears as the wind blew into his cell. The blood that pour from them was to hide his true ears. But they grew back in record time. Kim clutched himself and prayed that his master come for him. Come and save him from the dark place. But that night, it was not Lord David who came, it was the boy Marlo.
“Hello Kim.” Marlo whispered. “I came to see if you were better.”
“Come to throw something at me? Or inject me with one of those needles?” Kim spat. He rose up and stumbled to his bed from his weak legs.
“No, just to talk to you.” Marlo said sitting down outside of his cell. He put his art pad down beside him and put the pencil behind his ear.
“Why would a puny human like yourself care about me? Your not even old enough to care.”
“I’m Eighteen, compared to you.”
“Eighteen?! Eighteen and still a virgin?!”
Marlo’s eyes widened.
“How did you. . . . .”
“I can smell it on you. Your blood hasn’t been spilt. But it will. A pretty human like yourself will loose that purity with or without your permission.”
Marlo blushed red. Maybe he heard Louis’s threat.
“Well, I am considered a adult. But enough about me.” Marlo gave him a soft smile. “Tell me about you.”
Kim stared at the human. He can’t be serious.
“What ever joke you’re pulling human, I’m not playing.”
“Not seriously.” Marlo smiled. Kim looked at the warm smile and pulled himself to the cold floor.
“No Jest?”
“Nope.” Marlo said.
Kim didn’t know what it was but something in his gut told him that this boy was alright.
“Fine.”
“Okay, then can you tell me about your self?”
“I was born is a village out of the castle grounds . On my birth, a young lord was picking a servant. . . . . . .”
On and on, into the night they went. Comparing lives, telling stories, and talking about old times. Marlo gave him an apple. And Kim told him the stories of his master.
“Cold as ice he is. But I was there for his coronation as our prince. He is rather stern with hair just down to about his ears and over his eyes. His face is stern but can become soft at the last minute. In fact, he looks a little like yourself.”
Marlo pointed to his face.
“Like me?” he questioned.
“Sure, but unlike you he’s a womanizer and a stalker. He hunts on the fullest of moons when there is not darkness, only clear night. No stars in the sky or any clouds. And when he comes the moon disappears.” Kim stared long and hard at him. “You Look a little bit like him, only he has more hair and deeper eyes.”
“Kim, when you say he hunts. . .you mean he . .”
“He lives on human flesh. The blood is what keeps him here, in your world. He had his own castle and citadel to live in but once a month, he hunts. He takes only those that he chooses and if you catch his interest he might keep you.” Kim looked down as he lowered his eyes to the floor.
“And change you.”
“Change you?” Marlo asked in a whisper.
“Into what he is. . . A vampire.”

Marlo looked his picture over again. He did a self portrait of himself, but he kept glancing at it over an over. He then made his mind up. He was gonna draw that Vampire Prince, David. Marlo curved his fingers around the pencil and began to erase.
You would look like him but he has more hair and deeper eyes. Marlo began sketching soft blond hair that fit over his eyes and ears. He gave the eyes depth and meaning, soon his hand was aching but he didn’t care. He added more to the face and gave it life. The picture seemed to come alive as he drew and pulled more of himself out to pour in Lord David. By the end of the day , his stomach was growling, his head and heart pounding, but he didn’t care. He had finished.
He ran to Kim’s cell. The boy was curved up on his bed with his knees up at his chest again. He smiled when Marlo came.
“My, aren’t you a ray of sun today.” Kim muttered.
Marlo reached for his pad and began flipping through, he held it up and showed it to Kim.
“Did I do it right?” He wondered.
Kim stopped breathing for a moment. There in front of him was a picture of his former master. His hair was the exact way that Kim had said it was. The eyes and face matched a depth that only his master could accomplish. Kim reached through the bars at the portrait.
“Marlo. . . Did you do this?” Kim whispered feeling the page beneath his fingers.
“Is it okay?”
“Marlo, this is beautiful.” Kim said.
“Do you want it? I can give it to you.”
“No, I can’t keep this .”
“Sure you can.” Marlo ripped the page out of his book. “So you can remember what he looks like.”
“Thank you Marlo.”

The moon hung as a dazzling circle illuminating the light over head. A rustle of leaves stirred Kim, but he did not wake.
“Kim.” A well balance voice that sent tendrils of mist into the air said.
Kim tossed and turned on his mattress. A dark figure appeared from the ceiling.
“Kim.” the voice belonging to the stranger asked. “I need you to return to my service,” He put out a pale hand and shook the boy. The boy shuddered and looked up into Amber orbs, deep and as dark as the night it self.
“Master David.” Kim whispered.
“Come, Kim, I must hunt tonight.” David shook his head as he pulled his cloak closer around him. The black and red cloak gave his outfit the sinister look he desired. A ruffled white shirt with long sleeves and ruffled cuffs atop of a pair of black pants with black boots.
“Of course, My lord.” Kim whispered. David looked around the room.
“What a filthy dwelling. They could use a cleaner place to put you next time.” Kim was reaching under the bed for the picture when David narrowed his eyes at him. “What are you doing?”
“Getting something, my lord.” Kim whispered.
“What would you have to keep in a place like this?” David questioned with a raised eyebrow.
“A boy gave me something to keep.” Kim said finding the picture. He tucked it under his arm and turned to his master. “Ready, Mi’lord.” But David wasn’t looking at him. He was looking at the portrait rolled up under his arm.
“Mi’lord?”
“What is that?” he asked, pointing a finger at the picture.
“The gift from a boy, Mi’lord.” Kim said softly with a bow. Kim began to sweat for he knew what would happen if he saw it. David reached out a hand and held it open.
“Let me see it.” He commanded.
“But tis nothing , Mi’lord.” Kim was shaking. Not Marlo. Please not Marlo.
“Let me see it.” David commanded once again.
“But-.”
“Kim, give it to me, NOW.” Kim reluctantly handed it over. David unfurled it and gasped. There in the middle was picture of him. His face was drawn to absolute detail. His hair not too long or short. He rolled it up and looked at Kim, a sadness and hunger in his eyes. It had been two hundred years since he had actually seen his face.
“Who Drew this?” he asked.
“My lord, I lied, I drew it. No Human has laid eyes on you that could. . .”
“Who Drew this?” David said putting pressure on Kim’s mind.
“Marlo. A boy named Marlo. He arrived here with a man named Louis, who took care of me.” Kim said with out feeling, Once again under the control of the dark Vampire prince.
“Marlo.” David said tasting the name on his tongue. “Kim, go back home and stay there until I summon you.”
Tears rolled down Kim’s cheeks until he answered with a stiff “yes sir.”
In a flash he was gone from the human plane but he was sure of this, He would never see Marlo again.

David looked up at the window above him. A man named Louis was staying here. There were no other Louis’s. David extended his hand and began his climb to the window, his nails digging into the stone and pulling him upward. He reached the window and opened it from the inside with his mind. A blond youth was lying in a bundle of covers draped over his slim figure. David reached up to pull the covers away when the human beneath the covers began to stir. David slunk to the shadows and stayed there until the human awoke.
Marlo groggily opened his eyes and pulled the cover closer. Damn it got so cold. He lifted his head and ran a hand through his messy blond locks. Marlo got up and walked to the window, David watching every move. Marlo sealed the window back when a low chuckle stopped him in his tracks. He spun around to come face to face with Large Amber orbs that locked onto his honey colored eyes. Marlo found out slowly that he couldn’t move. For when the man before him lifted a hand to stroke his cheek, Marlo could not back away. He was stuck and at the man’s mercy.
“Marlo, I presume?” David asked, Marlo rolling off his tongue. Marlo felt his insides turn to butter at the sound of his voice, probing and prodding at his mind. His instincts were screaming ‘no’. But Marlo was helpless to obey. David ran a hand down his neck, causing Marlo to shudder. The Amber orbs still had him in their gaze and Marlo couldn’t seem to get enough of them. David smiled at the easy catch. The human boy before him was stunning to say the least. Plus the fact that Marlo was stuck in a helpless position before him. He smiled.
“Tired, Little one?” He asked, tilting up Marlo’s chin. Marlo’s gaze was clouded and his body was being used like a puppet. “Marlo, are you in need of rest?” he asked, caressing his check and along his chin to his ear. Marlo closed his eyes as David willed him to sleep . He slumped against the tall vampire and David wrapped his arms around him.
“Now, My little Marlo, You are mine.” David cast open the window and began the journey back with his prize.
