Utena, Revolutionary Girl Fan Fiction ❯ Grapes and Flowers ❯ Bagarre! ( Chapter 5 )
Budoo came to the gate with the rose crest that Utena had specified. She took her ring from off of its chain and slipped it on her finger. When she grasped the door knobs, her hands were briefly enveloped and the doors swung open.
She fought through the thorny rose bushes with the base ball bat she'd borrowed from the coach of the team. It was the closest thing to a sword she could get. Plus she didn't know how to fight with a sword--at least she'd never tried.
I hope this isn't against the rules. Oh well, if it is I won't have to duel.
She was relieved and at the same time intimidated to see who was waiting for her on the arena floor: everyone. Utena, Anthy and the student council were all there. Why did I have to get here last?
Touga Kiryuu stepped forward, "Budoo Ureshii...,(like he had to tell her who she was) I would like to welcome you to the Duels " (he turned so that he could see everyone,) " and possibly to the student council." "You'll regret quitting kendoo, Miss Budoo," Saionji sneered. Anthy silently placed a rose in his pocket.
Budoo raised her bat out in front of her in reply. Who starts? Anthy put a gray rose into Budoo's pocket.
Saionji broke into a run toward Budoo, she was jolted--he had been standing so serenely self-confident! Frightened, she jumped back, dodging his sword but flinging her bat away.
"Pathetic!" he spat. "Go get it!"
She edged toward her bat, (Great!,) watching him as she did. Why did they--whoever they are--send me this ring?? Look how sorry I am!
As soon as her finger tips touched the bat, he lunged. She lifted her bat up and his sword struck it. The merciless, resounding "clang" of the sword on the metal bat stung through their heads. Saionji held his ear. Though irritated, Budoo s He didn't respond but but yelled and hollered as he struck the ground with his sword over and over.
