The Black Sincerity

Chapter One: My Name is Yuki Cross.

Yuki Cross was slowly nodding off during math class, when a knock on the door brought her swiftly back to reality. She watched the teacher walk to the door and have a quick conversation. Yuki sprang to attention as the teacher's eye landed on her.
“Yuki Cross, you are wanted in the chairman's office immediately” Yuki gathered up her books, wondering what was going on. The chairman never interrupted her during class. Maybe something was wrong with Zero! Hurrying out into the hallway, her mind was running far ahead of her body, imagining all sorts of bad possibilities. By the time she reached the door of the chairman's office she was gulping for air and convinced that the worst possible thing had happened. When she regained her composure she knocked lightly on the door.
“Enter” Pulling open the screen her eyes flew to the chairman searching for a hint as to what he wanted to see her about. He looked relaxed and even a bit excited. It was then that Yuki realized that there was someone sitting across from him. From her current position all she could tell was that it was a girl with black hair. “Ah Yuki! I have the most excellent news for you!” His face split into a wide grin. “You have been found!”
“What?” She had moved close enough and now she turned and looked at the chairman's visitor. Yuki gasped.
“Hello…Yuki is it now? I am your sister, Ren” The girl who called herself Ren stood up and looked at Yuki. There could be no doubt in anyone's mind that these two were related, in fact they could almost be twins except that Ren stood a inch or two higher and had longer hair. Through her shock Yuki noticed that Ren was twisting her hands nervously. “I know this is a complete shock to you, and Chairman Cross has told me you have no memories of me or our family, but…but to me you are still my little sister. Could I hug you?” Yuki could see Ren was tense with emotion and dazedly nodded her head. Ren threw her arms around Yuki and sobbed, letting go of all the anguish she had felt over the years and Yuki, once Ren's arms were around her she had the strange feeling of coming home. So Yuki hugged Ren back and began to cry herself. After awhile Yuki couldn't help but ask:
“What…what is my real name?”
“Kohana Izagawa and I am Ren Izagawa. And our parents names were Shino and Akina Izagawa” Ren's eyes filled with sorrow and then Yuki realized what she said,
“were….our parents names were, as in they aren't anymore?”
“They died in a car accident a long time ago, when you were three.” Ren looked at Yuki. “Our cousin took us in after that.”
“Cousin?…I'm sorry but this is a lot right now. I…hearing about these people that I don't remember, finding out I have a sister, that my parents are dead in one swoop, it's just too much” Yuki's voice had risen and had an edge of hysteria to it.
“It's alright Yuki. You have all the time in the world to think about this,” The chairman gave her a gentle smile.
“Yuki! That isn't even my true name. I feel I feel so overwhelmed right now” Bursting into sobs Yuki ran out. The chairman turned to Ren.
“I'm sorry. It will take her awhile I think” Ren nodded as they both stared at the open door.
“It's alright Chairman Cross, I was expecting a worse reaction given the circumstances. It's probably a good thing that she lost her memories, what she had were not pleasant.” She turned and looked at him, and again he was struck by the resemblance between her and Yuki. “If it is alright with you Chairman, I would like to remain and rebuild my relationship with my sister.”
“Of course of course. I must remind you though your sister plays a very important role here at the Cross Academy.”
“Yes I know. I know all about the Cross Academy.” She placed a hand on his arm. “I'm not going to take your daughter away. In fact I prefer she stays here and continues her life. She will be Yuki Cross to me.” And with that she left to get some fresh air. The Chairman sat down and exhaled loudly. It certainly had been an interesting afternoon he thought.

Yuki did not go back to class, instead she ran to one of the gardens. Slumping down against a tree she wrapped her arms around her legs. She was happy to be the Chairman's daughter, but always there was some part that wondered who she really was.
Kohana…my name is Kohana. Not Yuki Cross…Kohana Izagawa. Her emotions rolled within her body as the full impact of the meaning hit her. Perhaps she would have to leave the academy, leave behind her life and start a new…no resume her old life. No, she thought, I won't do that!
“Yuki?” Yuki looked up and saw Ren standing there. She's so pretty, thought Yuki, and stylish but it was her fault that she was in such a state.
“You called me Yuki…why?”
“Because that is who you are. Look, I'm not going to pressure you into becoming Kohana Izagawa. That is not who you are now, you're Yuki Cross of Cross Academy. I'm not asking you to give up your life, I just wish you would allow me to become a part of it.” Yuki looked Ren in the eyes and saw her sincerity. “Do you mind if I speak of the past?” Yuki resumed looking at her knees and shook her head.
“After…After our parents died, we were sent to live with our cousin. She was not the warmest person, I guess you could say. And so it was left up to us to comfort and love each other. I was sent to away to school a year later. And that's when it happened…our cousin fell sick and you were left with a friend of hers. She claims that you wandered off by yourself. They searched for you for days but never found you and finally we all gave up hope of finding you alive. I never wanted to believe that you were dead, and I blamed myself…if I had not gone off to school you would have still been alive. It was only luck that I have found you now. If you decide that you don't want me in your life I will understand that and I will leave. But for now please give me a chance?” the last was said with such sadness that Yuki looked up.
“I do not want you to think that I am pushing you away right now…I just need some time to deal with this ok?”
“I am staying on at the academy if that is fine with you?” Yuki stood up.
“That's fine. I've got to get back to class” Yuki walked past her and as she walked through the archway she turned back. “See you later?” Ren smiled.
“Yes”
