A poem written for Merle to Van.

I am your daughter.
I am your mother.
I am your sister on whom you can depend.
I am your tears,
I am your smiles,
I am your very best friend.

I was there at every skinned knee.
I was there to enjoy every laugh.
A second spirit, a smaller shadow,
Always present with my care to cast.

I was there all of these years,
Long and hard or short and sweet,
I was there in every triumph,
I was there in every defeat.

I heard every single cry,
In those nights when we were alone,
I felt every single tear,
Each as if they were my own.

I carried every burden,
All of your angst I lifted too.
I saw past every challenge,
I saw my goal was only you.

In the same, I shared each smile,
Each feeble giggle or childish grin,
I undertook each frivilous adventure
and I haven't forgotten a thing.

I can recall what we set out to do,
I can recall how we eventually achieved it.
I rememeber every single corny joke,
I treasure every single precious secret,

I would offer you my sympathy,
I would offer you my advice,
I would speak with you my thoughts,
I would share with you my life.

I will always do each of these things,
As our friendship continues to grow.
As our lives lead on ahead of us,
I will always be with you like so.

For I am your daughter.
For I am your mother.
For I am each that is mentioned above.
Dearest Van,
I am your very best friend,
and always will be...

For I think I am in love.

Author's Notes:

This is my very first Escaflowne poem, and my eighth anime poem. Though I am a big Van & Hitomi fan, I always thought a possible love between himself and his best friend, Merle, would be somewhat adorable. It's been a long time since I've written anime poetry, so I hope you enjoyed it and thank you for reading. ^^
