Caged Songbird
Chapter 1: Missing Identity

"Pidge.. Pidge.. Where are you?" A sensuous voice echoed through the valley, "Come to me my lion knight..." the sweet voice swayed through the wind covered in cherry blossom petals and white angel feathers.

"Flora. I'm here. Where are you?" Pidge whispered walking through the brush of the riverbank.

"Over here.." the voice whispered behind him.

Pidge turns around and sees a lovely woman in white sitting underneath the cherry tree. The tree's blossom petals, dancing swiftly to the ground, She was a gorgeous gypsy woman with curly black hair, fair skin, cherry red lips and sexy green eyes. She was the vision of every man's dreams and now she was his.

"You look so beautiful tonight..." Pidge muttered walking up the hill to where Flora was resting, he grabs her hand and pulls her upward, her face rubbing along his pale skin. He wraps her arms around her tightly feeling her full body against his.

"Yes. And you are so handsome. More than any other man I know. Including Fabiyon." She whispered her warm breath at his neck. "You are better than all of them combined."

She leans upwards and kisses him; her lips were soft against his. Pidge combs his fingers through her locks and his hand at her back feeling the satin dress under his fingertips. She was so lovely, so enchanting...he wanted her so badly. So much he could give up everything to have her in his arms.

"Hold me close..." she whispered holding him tightly, pulling him downwards to the ground. "Stay with me tonight."

"I'll never leave you." Pidge muttered his face buried at her neck kissing every inch. "I love you so much I don't want to leave."

He feels her hand goes under his shirt, her fingers stroking his back, which felt a bit ticklish to him. He replied back by placing his hand on the inside of her thighs. She giggled a bit but even then Pidge felt too much like a pervert and stopped his affection.

"You don't have to worry Pidge," she said in a whisper "Nobody's here. Just you and me. No one else."

Pidge felt better but not completely. He felt it was kind of wrong to do this. She convinced him though that it was okay and that he wouldn't have to worry about having to face Fabiyon if he found out about his lovelife with Flora.

"Make love to me my knight..." Flora muttered looking deeply into his eyes.
"Are you sure?" Pidge asked in a nervous tone.
"Yes...would you rather let me make a move on you first?" she replied in a sexy voice
"No. I'll start..." he answered.

Pidge crawled over and kisses Flora again on the lips harder this time with the sway of the tongue. He felt her lie on top of him, removing his fogged up glasses and kisses his face with swift pecks and then lands at his neck. He lifts his hands again and places them at her back pulling down the zipper and rubbing her velvet skin underneath.

"Go on ahead...don't be shy. Take off my dress."
"Okay." He stuttered his face turning red.

Being very sly and kind of embarrassed he pulled down her straps and slipped the dress, halfway down until it reached down to her waist. He looks down at her. Her face wore a mask of pleasure; her black curl wisps fell onto her chest. She looked very seductive, arousing him even more. Pidge then tried to pull down her dress once more and finally takes it off seeing her nude body lying on a bed of cherry blossom pet---

The alarm screamed in his bedroom waking Pidge up very violently. As soon as he realized what happened, he smashed the buttons to turn it off; when it didn't shut up he threw it halfway across the room. He was even more angry that he couldn't get back to sleep and get back to his erotic fantasy.

"Piece of crap!" He hissed as he rose up from his bed. The morning light had seeped through the window-blinds, slid onto the floor and crawled up the walls painting it with a radiant glow. He groggily got up from the mattress and got changed into his his favourite green sweater, cargo pants and brown hiking boots.

He looks at the calendar and smiled. There was two good things waiting for him this week, one today was his eighteenth birthday and two, soon it will be his first date with the loveliest babe in the alliance, Flora Gale. He finally mustered the courage to ask Flora out when he was comforting her over her break up with her ex-boyfriend, Fabiyon Torno. It was quite a surprise when she actually said yes to his request.

"Oh well...the good thing is I'll probably get a REAL kiss from Flora on Friday!!" He muttered with a foxy grin, slipping slyly out the door.

"Happy Birthday Pidge!" Hunk exclaimed when Pidge sleepily entered the kitchen. Hunk whom had a large smile on his face at the table, Lance was sitting beside him. As for Keith and Allura...hey! Where did they go?

"Congratulations Pidge! You're a real man now!" Lance smirked his right arm tightly around Pidge's neck "Soon the ladies will be after you..."

"What do you mean by that Lance? Remember Pidge's got a date with Flora!!" Hunk chuckled

"Whooo! Alright Pidge!" Lance hollered, his arm now practically strangling Pidge "Well. It's quite obvious he's gotten the charm from ME!! Tell me Casanova. How did you land with Flora Gale?"

Pidge hastily removed Lance's arm from his sore neck and replied, "It's quite obvious, I didn't use any of your pick-up lines!"

"Oooooh! You've just been owned!" Hunk muttered taking a sip from his tea.

Pidge sat down at the dinner table; he remembered how he annoyed Nanny about her cooking and about the little Space mice. Things were much different now without them, another thing was the relationship between Keith and Allura had became much more deeper and intimate. They *finally* became an item! Er.. At least they kinda did. Secretly Pidge was a little jealous about how women were crazy about Keith and Lance, but he knew that things were going to change for him.

"So Pidge. What do you think of my present?" Lance smirked pointing at his shoulder.

He looks down at his right arm. He had almost forgotten about the tattoo that Lance had paid for to get done on Pidge's arm. Because of the tattoo artist whom was quite an amateur at the stuff, it hurt like hell for the past few days but it was quite worth it when he sees the cool design. It was an interesting looking armband that looked like a wreath of thorns. It looked almost as if the thorns were really stabbing into his skin

"Nanny would be pissed if she ever saw that." Hunk mumbled, "I wonder what Flora would think about it?"

"Oh shut up." Pidge growled wolfing down his breakfast "I just want to enjoy my birthday and worry about my date later. Besides I'm gonna go home today to visit my family."

"Ah yes! Going home." Hunk mutters remembering when he visited Pidge's home in the small village in the woods of Kyoto. He sighs softly and mutters in his tea cup, "It must be nice going there again. I'm probably gonna go back to Terra someday too..."

"You might as well get going to your plane...it's about 11:30." Lance said pointing at his watch with a small smirk on his face.

"Oh shit! I'm gonna be late!!" Pidge blurted out, running from the table to get his coat and his baggage and then sputtered as he headed towards the door, "See ya later guys!"

"Adios Pidge!" Lance laughed as Pidge ran out the door. "Say hi to Flora for me!!"

After several long tiring hours on the airplane. Pidge had finally made it to Japan, upon the far side of the Eurasia continent. Taking a cab he had another few hours of travelling until he arrived to his old hometown, an old village nearby the city of Kyoto. He was greeted by almost all of the people who lived there including his family whom were very joyful to see their Green Knight.

"Pidge! Welcome home!!" Mrs. Morreale cried in happiness, throwing him in her arms, "I missed you so much dear."

"Hey Mom! Nice to see you again."

"Well of course it's been about five years since the last time you came back!" A voice replied behind him. Pidge turned around to see his father and his older brother Chip standing with grins on their faces. "Jeez! Can't ya even give us a call?"

"Sorry. I guess I've been too busy lately." Pidge mutters sheepishly.

"Yeah! Well. Today's your birthday so you just relax and not worry about Arus or the Galaxy Garrison!" His mother mutters still hugging him tightly making Pidge face turn red. She finally released her grip and says, "C'mon let's go and get you settled!"

Pidge picks up his backpack and follows his parents down the dusty dirt path to his old house. It still looked the same since he last saw it about five years ago, after the battle between Voltron and the forces of Doom. At times he wished that Lotor was dead and wasn't able to revive the Doom empire, then he wouldn't have to leave his family again...just like that horrific time he had to leave his biological parents.

If he could remember them that is.

"Oh! It'll be so good to have you back to Japan again, Petir." His mother said in excitement. "Just like old times..."

"Yeah...just like before." Pidge muttered with a half-grin.

"Only now you are a man!" Chip smirked an arm on his shoulders "Eighteen already! My where does the time go?"

"I ask the same question..." Pidge thought looking up at the sky watching a white dove fly by the trees.

~*~*~*~

The days passed by quickly, getting patched up with his parents and meeting his relatives and Chip's long time girlfriend Nicole. Things went good so far. But even then there was a dark looming shadow lingering in Pidge's mind that just won't go away.

From what was mentioned earlier, these people were not his real parents. He was apparently adopted as a toddler fifteen years ago, unfortunately for his major concussion he had some time back, he could not remember anything of his real family or planet Balto. Only the remaining information that survived the planet's hostile war with Doom, was given to him by Mr. And Mrs. Morreale, even then, to him it wasn't enough…

"Hey Petir!" His father said in a gruff voice "What's happening?"

"Nothing much just thinking..." Pidge muttered tapping his fingers on the table.

"Like you always do." Mr. Morreale says with a smile but then faded when Pidge didn't reply. "Is there something wrong?"

"No. I mean yes. Oh I don't know.." Pidge choked resting his head on the table, his hands clutching at the ash brown spikes.

"What do you mean 'you don't know'?" he says trying to look at Pidge's face buried under his dark locks.

"Don't take it wrong. Things have been great here. But I just feel like there's a wall between me and my true self."

"True self?" he muttered.

"My real identity dammit! It's been fifteen years and I have not found who my parents are and who I really am. Hell! I don't even know if I have a real name!" Pidge scowled rising up from his chair facing out the window.

"Is that's what been bothering you Petir? Listen I know it must be hard for you to not be able to find who you really are. But I am sure you'll find an answer someday." His father whispers comfortingly as he placed his hands on Pidge's shoulders. Pidge swiftly moved to one side avoiding his comfort.

"You don't know...you were never adopted. You knew who your real family were. I don't." Pidge muttered running his hand on the mantle of the fireplace. "All I ever want in life is to find answers to those questions. Why can't I find them?"

"Pidge..." Mr Morreale whispered, "You can't go around in life feeling like there's no hope. I am sure you can find them."

"How do you know?" Pidge muttered his throat feeling very dry, "How do you know when'll get better?"

"Well. I don't know. But-" His father stammered sweat running down his face.

"EXACTLY! You don't know. No one does. Even I don't know. So why bother believing anything anymore."

"Petir talk like that. I didn't raise you like that!" his muttered.
"Of course. You didn't raise me from the very beginning..."

And with that Pidge stormed out the room slamming the door behind him. He walks down the grassy plains avoiding his father's screaming to get inside the house. He ignored him; he was not his real father so why bother listening to him. Pidge kept on running, faster and faster until he got to a small place in the woods, the one place which was his sanctuary. Sadly though he was not safe from his guilty thoughts.

"Why did I act like that? GOD I am such a bastard!" Pidge thought in sadness "But he doesn't know how I feel. No one does. No one ever will. Ugh! I hate myself! Sometimes I wish I was dead..."

He walked for a long time in the forests, past the blooming flowers and the singing birds, over to a large oak tree in the heart of the woods, where a tire swing hung from it's large branches, Pidge swiftly jumps up and lands his lower half into the tire, swinging himself slowly with the wind. The gentle breeze blows on his face giving him a sense of calm serenity.

The air was very cold tonight. Giving Pidge quite a chill. He pulls the zipper of his jacket but even then he couldn't stop shivering. It was as cold as Pidge was towards Mr. Morreale, the one who took him into his home, the one who gave him a name the one who loved Pidge when no one else did. His real parents couldn't do that when they are dead...but he was thinking about them and himself instead of the one family whom were there for him. The Morreales.

"Father, mother, brother.. Please forgive me for what I have said." Pidge thought brushing a tear off his pale face. "I didn't mean to be cruel."

Pidge looks down on the ground at the small violets that grew in the grass. They've been stepped on many times but they've always come back up more beautiful than before. Strong, but it was not like him. He let the mystery of his missing life get in the way of things that he should think about like the present and the future for him and the ones he cared about.

"I cannot believe how selfish I acted back there. I was only thinking of myself and ruined my visit home." Pidge thought sadly as he swung back and forth gently. Sadly he could never remember anything past the age of three. The first memory he ever had was at a children's hospital, recovering from an injury. He remember Mr. And Mrs. Morreale being there, and Chip. They were all there for him throughout his years. Like a family…

"In a sense. These people are my family. I shouldn't look for them. I already found them." Pidge thought with a small smile over his face. Then he remember how much he had hurt his father, it came to a time when he had to apologize. He wasn't sure if he'll forgive him or not for the things he said. But Pidge hoped that he wouldn't have that feeling stuck with him.

"I got to go back and tell Dad how much I really care for him...and tell him, I'm sorry." Pidge mumbled crawling out of the swing. He quickly sprinted out of the woods and into the plains where the village was awaiting his return. Unfortunately though a horrible event occurred which changed everything.

There was a loud siren like sound coming from the village; Pidge looks over the hill to see an ambulance truck followed by a few police cars. It was all heading towards the end of the street to where his house was.

"Oh god no." Pidge thought in horror as he ran down the steep hill towards the tall beige house. He ran inside the house and towards the den where his father worked. The entire place was a mess; papers everywhere, the desk and shelves tossed over, and blood… so much blood upon the walls. He looked over to the side to see his mother crying in Chip's arms. His father was nowhere to be found.

"What happened?" Pidge stuttered.
"You tell us!" Chip screeched holding his mother close "Where the hell were you?"

"I-I-I- w-was at the woods!" Pidge stammered glancing at Chip's cold eyes "W-where's D-dad?"

Chip pointed to the door where a couple of paramedics were carrying a long stretcher with a body covered in a white cloth. He had explained that while he was gone there was a burglary at their house and father tried to stop him but he came to a bitter end when he was stabbed repeatedly with an unknown weapon. Although the strange thing was that nothing was stolen, everything his father owned in that room was still there. But neverless, Pidge knew that his actions brought this upon him.

"Oh no." Pidge gulped "What have I done?"
"I'll tell you." Chip muttered raising a fist and landing it at Pidge's jaw.

Pidge fell to the floor hard, covering the light blue bruise with his right hand. He looked up at his brother with fright, he never saw him so angry before. It was horrifying.

"Godammit! Why weren't you there to help him!" Chip screamed grabbing Pidge's shirt collar with his trembling hands "Why for one second stop thinking about you and think about someone else for a CHANGE!!"

"Chip. Please. It wasn't my fault." Pidge stuttered in a scared child-voice "I didn't know..."

"Of course not, you don't seem to realize how much he cared about He loved you like his own flesh and blood and you turned against him right when he needed you the most!! Damn you Petir!"

Chip turned around and faced his mother whom screamed at him for hitting his little brother, Pidge ran out the house and stopped in fright, watching as the police was laying his father's body into the mortuary truck, seeing his dead hand dangling at the side, dropping a small metallic object upon the ground. Pidge walked over and picked up a silver necklace, with miniature sword chained onto it. Pidge's birthday present from his father…

Tears flowed from his eyes. The immense pain he had created within himself had grew into a blazing inferno. He walked over sat down at the steps of the porch, trying to recollect everything that was going on. Soon he started crying. This time there was no comforting sound of the wind in the trees, or the sound of snow-white doves cooing their hymns, just absolute silence…
