Skye didn't bother trying to walk Crawford back to the house. She just picked him up and phased them both to the room he was staying in.

“You know,” Star said, phasing in next to Skye as she put Crawford down on the bed. “I'm kinda sad and relieved that he knows.”

“Yes. I am too. But it will certainly change things between us.”

“For better or worse?”

“That's entirely up to him,” Skye said.

“It's sad, really,” Star said, looking at Crawford critically, remembering the boy he had been compared to the man he'd become. “He never got to be a kid at all.”

“We probably don't know the half of it.”

Star rocked back on her heels for a moment and regarded her sister levelly.

“What?” Skye asked, she knew that look from her twin all too well.

“If I tell you then you'll just want to go dig up what you actually left of David Crawford and kill him all over again.”

“What?” Skye said. Star could feel the fury start to build in her sister again.

“Skye, he's already dead. You made very sure of that. There ins't anything else you can do about what happened to them.”

Skye glared at her and sank down to sit on the side of the bed. “I know. I just wish he had found out some other time, some other way.”

“I can always rewire him again, sis,” Star said.

“No,” Skye said with a heavy sigh. “I don't think that would be a good idea. You did it the first time to keep the trauma to a minimum. He was more or less a child then.”

Star looked at her oddly. “Seventeen years old is hardly considered a child. We did the best we could for him without interfering directly with his free will.”

“Tante Maggie, Tante Rose,” came Dee's voice from the doorway. “Can I talk to both of you?”

“Of course, Deidre,” Skye said, motioning her into the room.

Dee came in and shut the door behind her. She walked over and sat down on the opposite side of the bed and looked at the sleeping form of her brother almost sadly.

“He always tried so hard to keep us safe,” she said, brushing an errant lock of hair away from his face. “Sometimes he actually managed it. Other times, he didn't do so well.” She looked up at Skye and Star. “I don't think he's ever really gotten over not being able to keep him from taking Circe and killing Mama.”

“My gods, why?” Star asked. “He was only a ten year old boy when Circe was taken.”

“We all know that. But he'd taken it upon himself to protect us and in his mind he still thinks he should have been able to do that. He was never the same afterward. I remember Mama packed Rory and me here and then took him to Granny Po's because she thought the sperm donor had managed to kill him.”

“Sperm donor?” Skye asked.

Dee sneered in disgust. “He isn't worthy to be called father, even in death.”

“That's true enough,” Skye agreed.

“Mama never told us what happened at Granny Po's but Rory and I felt it and saw it through her eyes and our connection to Brad.”

“Dee,” Skye said gently. “We know what happened that night.”

“I know you're aware of what happened to Rory and me and at least part of what happened to Circe.”

Star nodded. “They took her into one of the underground bunkers and we couldn't track her after that.”

“I know. But I don't think you know all of what happened to Braddy that night. I know the only reason you left him in the first place was because Granny Po sent you off.”

“That and we thought he'd be safe with her.”

“He was. Even that stupid bastard knew better than to try anything with Granny Po or Madame Belle. But I think since both of you have been and still are so involved with his life that you need to know all of it. And Schuldig needs to understand a few things about my brother before I let him anywhere near him in the romantic sense,” Dee said firmly.

“I just hope he forgives me for what I did to your father,” Skye said.

Dee shrugged. “I don't think he'll be too broken up about finally knowing the truth about what happened that night. Honestly, you probably saved his life. If you hadn't done it, he would have. As it was, I think it worked out better the way it played out.”

Skye nodded and smiled down at Crawford. Dee grinned a little before saying, “You really love him, don't you.”

Skye blinked in confusion for a moment. “Yes. Not quite the way one would think though.”

Dee smiled. “I know that you don't love him like you do Schuldig. You love him like he was one of your children. You love Rory and me as well but you love him . . . not more exactly. It's like you're more protective of him because you know what he went through for us. You and Tante Rose have always been there when we really needed you and we appreciate it more than you can imagine. Let me show you the past,” Dee said, holding both hands out to them.

Star took one hand and Skye took the other as both were jolted with a vision of the past.

Schuldig leaned against the wall then slowly sank to the floor, tears blurring his vision as the backlash of the past Skye was being shown hit him without warning or mercy.
