Five minutes or so before the shop was due to close, Omi spotted a familiar figure at the door. He came out from behind the counter and nearly flew to her. She caught him in mid jump, laughing and trying to keep her balance so they both didn't go tumbling into the floor.

“I see you're faring well,” she said, stepping back to look him over.

“Where have you been? I was worried when I didn't see you after . . .”

“I know. I probably should have explained a few things to you beforehand, but I wasn't sure how things were going to work out. I didn't want to worry you if I didn't need to.”

Omi turned his eyes to the people who had come in with her. Two women with red hair flanked her on either side. They seemed identical in every possible way. The man standing behind her was taller than Yohji and had his arm protectively around a girl with long white hair. One of the women had to be Red Shaman, he thought. Possibly both, since they were identical it would be easy for them to pass as one person.

“See if you can get Ran to stand down long enough to listen to what we have to say. It may be in your best interest,” she said quietly.

Omi nodded and went to talk to Ken for a moment. Ken listened intently and nodded then started shooing the schoolgirls out of the shop.

One of the girls paused near the door, looking at Ghost.

“You have beautiful hair,” she said in halting English, smiling.

“T-thank you,” Ghost said. She was somewhat confused. She had never heard anyone say her hair was beautiful other than the Red Shaman team.

The girl smiled at her and bounded out the door after her friends. Blaze smiled at Ghost, who still seemed to be in shock.

“We've been telling you that for years and you never believed us.”

“I thought you were lying because you loved me and didn't want me to feel bad.”

Before any of them could answer, Omi was back and motioning them to follow him.

“Be careful,” he said over his shoulder. “Aya is a little tense.”

“That's an understatement,” Star said as they walked through the door to the kitchen to find Aya standing there with katana drawn.

“Okay. Enough of this nonsense,” Blaze said. Within two seconds she had him disarmed and completely immobilized. Holding him by the throat on the kitchen table. He was clawing at her hand trying to break the grip she had on his neck. “Now, do you think for one moment that you'd still be breathing if I wanted you dead, Ran?”

She eased the pressure enough to let him speak. He only growled at her and she slammed his head back into the table top, increasing the pressure again.

“Goddess,” Sunny said warningly. “Do you remember how strong you are?”

“Yes. I'm perfectly well aware of my limits. And of his,” she said, nodding to the man sprawled on the table, still thrashing and trying to fight her. She angled her hand to where her middle finger and thumb were just under the points of his jaw and lifted him off the table. He dangled a few inches off the floor before she dropped him. “Again, do you really think you'd still be breathing if I wanted you dead?”

“No,” Aya ground out, rubbing his bruised throat.

Yohji, who had been watching from the doorway, grinned around his cigarette and started clapping. “That has to be one of the most effective put downs I've ever had the privilege to see.”

“Some fucking help you are,” Aya snarled at him from the floor.

“If she really wanted to kill you, I doubt I could have stopped her,” he said, blowing smoke from the side of his mouth. “She had you disarmed and down with one hand. Now, what can we do for you lovely ladies? And gentleman, of course.”

“We have a minor mission for you. Fortunately, it's something you gentlemen are good at,” Skye said calmly. “You can choose to accept or decline. However, it would be in your best interest to at very least hear us out.”

“So, that's why you saved Omi's life. To get us to do what you want,” Aya said from the floor.

Blaze growled slightly and Aya found himself on his back with one of her stilettos digging into his chest.

“Since I'm certain you know what these heels actually do, I suggest you don't tempt me to use them in proper form. In answer to your accusation, I actually like him and it wasn't his time to go yet. This is secondary. If you're willing to at least listen and be civil, I'll be happy to let you up. Otherwise, I can keep you here all night if necessary.”

Ghost broke away from Sunny's grasp and went to touch Blaze on the arm. “Let him go. You two are cut from the same cloth. He only thinks he's protecting the people he cares about. I've seen you do the same with people you don't exactly trust. This has to be a first for him. I don't think he's ever been disarmed and thrown in the floor quite so quickly and easily. Especially not by a woman.”

“I'll bet the other one has,” Star said, grinning somewhat lecherously at Yohji, who grinned back at her in similar fashion.

“Gah! Stop it you two!” Skye said. “I can see what both of you are thinking and it's disgusting.”

“Save it for later, Star,” Blaze said. “No fun runs while on mission.”

“You are no fun since you got married, Gran.”

“I think certain people would disagree with that assessment.”

“Enough! Can we please remove ourselves from the sick sexual arena and get back to business?” Skye said.

Blaze stepped back and let Aya get up from the floor. He dusted himself off and they glared at each other for a minute.

“We'll listen. Or at least I will,” Omi said. Aya opened his mouth to protest but Omi ignored him and went on. “I don't care why she saved me. The point is, I'm here because of her and if she needs this done, I'll do it.”

“You don't need to feel obligated, bishounen. I would have done it anyway because it wasn't really your time yet.”

He smiled at her. “You didn't have to help me but you did. Just like I don't have to help you but I intend to. What needs to be done?”

Blaze nodded to Skye who began setting out blueprints and plans on the table.

“At the moment, it's an information gathering mission and nothing more. These places need to be watched and to have regulars checked out. There have been rumors of both drugs and a slavery ring at very least connected to this as well as four other groups. Right now we're looking for the links if there are any.”

“How do we watch the other groups?” Yohji asked, coming to get a closer look at the plans.

“Some of your counterparts are on this as well,” Skye said without missing a beat. “We expect to hear from them by the end of the week. If the information from both factions matches, then there's a possibility that you'll be working together in the near future.”

“I'm guessing that by counterparts, you mean Schwarz,” Ken said, looking at the plans over Omi's shoulder.

“That would be them,” Skye said.

“Oh, no fucking way!” Aya said loudly. “I might have gone for this because she saved Omi, but I am not working with those bastards.”

The Red Shaman team shrugged in unison.

“That's your decision. However, I had thought that since your technical rivalry and the reason for it had finished that you'd be a bit more amiable to work with some of the tops in the field. You can learn much from them and them from you,” Blaze said.

“Like what?”

“I'm not entirely certain I want to turn this over to someone so stupid,” Blaze said.

“He does have a point,” Omi said. “We've tried to kill each other just about every time we've all crossed paths.”

“Have you crossed paths since certain factions fell?” Ghost asked, turning slightly to look him in the eyes.

“Not exactly. Prodigy and I come across one another in various places but nothing has been said or done to indicate any animosity there. Just the weirdness and tension that goes with known assassins coming into close contact with one another.”

“That still doesn't mean we should work with them,” Aya said.

“Oh, come on, Aya. It makes sense for them to be working on this too. It's really too big for just one group to be working on, isn't it,” Ken said, looking at Skye's maps and blueprints.

“There is also evidence that at least one of these groups knows about Weiss and Schwarz. There is fortunately no indication that anyone knows who you actually are,” Skye said.

“Why aren't you doing this?” Aya asked accusingly. “From all the records, your team is the baddest of the bad asses. Why get any of us involved?”

Blaze smiled slightly at him. “This is simple leg work. If you can't handle it, let me know and I'll put someone on this who at least has the balls for it. I wasn't aware you were a neutered kitten.”

“Fine. We'll do it. And work with the bastards at Schwarz, but we'd better be getting paid some really good money for this.”

“Oh, you'll be paid quite well for your services, Ran. Just don't screw anything up,” Blaze said. “And don't push your luck with me. I might not be so nice next time.”

“Fuck you,” he growled.

She gave him a slow head to toe scan before grinning widely. “No thanks. I like men not boys.

They concluded the planning stages and left the rest up to the Weiss team to sort out however they felt necessary. Blaze once again hugged Omi and kissed him on the cheek.

“Be careful.”

He grinned at her. “I will. I promise you won't have to bring me back from the dead again.”

“Let's hope not,” she said before stepping out the door after the rest of her group.

“Abyssinian is entirely too easy to wind up most days,” Star said.

“Thank goodness. Otherwise we would have never gotten him to agree to working with Schwarz eventually.”

“Goddess, are you certain it's a good idea to have those two groups working together?” Sunny asked once they were out of earshot.

“Sunny, nothing is certain but death and taxes. And even death negotiates.”
