Part 2

Two hours later, Ran had received a confirmation call from the agency telling him that the escort suited for him was free, and that he'd been booked. Ran was in two minds about going through with it, but didn't wish to waste the other's time, after he'd been booked. The female on the other end of the line, different to the one before, had told him the guy would be calling within the next two days to confirm a variety of things. Ran was then given details of things he should prepare for, for that moment.

Looking down his checklist, Ran sighed and rubbed his chin as he listened to the Japanese talk show on television half heartily in his dimly lit apartment. Candles surrounded the small lamp he had on in the room, casting a gentle glow over the imposing shadows throughout, and bathing Ran in partial shadow. The red haired man ticked things off things on his list, and scribbled other areas out, knowing he wouldn't have to ask them. He'd not had the chance to ask the woman what exactly he needed to ask, as she'd put the phone down moments after they'd spoken. He'd thought her rude and without manners, and was more embarrassed at her tone towards him. As if he was lower than her for using the service.

"Question one… um. How much? Wait, that'd be like asking him for services like a client towards a prostitute". He knew that in a way, despite the name, some of the people offering certain services, made them prostitutes that hid behind prettier names and ideas. Ran didn't want to say he didn't want extra's though, in spite of the intense urge to do so, he'd be assuming too much and it could be awkward between them both. Scribbling that out, he looked down his list before crunching it up in his hand and threw it in the trash bin.

"I'll just play by ear and let him do the talking".

He hoped the guy had more knowledge in how it was run, and that he'd been told Ran was a first time buyer or he'd get even more flushed over it. He wasn't a prude though. Just shy, and he wasn't the type of man to discuss his sex life, or lack of one with a friend much less a stranger. He knew, given the time and right person, he could have a fruitful relationship. It was just finding that person beneath his bust schedule.

"Ran you're an idiot".

Shaking his head he stood up and turned the television off, cutting off half the light in the now darkened room. Looking at the clock, nearing two in the morning he decided it was time for bed and blew out the surrounding candles with a sigh. Hopefully the next day would bring better things.

~~~~~~
The call came the next morning as Ran was getting out of the shower. He hastily grabbed a towel and came running out soaking wet. Diving over his sofa he skidded slightly and picked up the phone after landing with an "oomph!"
"Moshi, Moshi"
He sounded out of breath as he answered, slightly winded and he rolled his eyes at himself as he finally sat up and wrapped the towel around his waist more firmly.
"Hello? Is that, Fujimiya…Ran?"
Ran took a breath and did a double take, staring at the phone for a moment.
"T-this is him… how may I help?"
He laughed slightly at his own nervousness before cutting it off with a hand and fidgeted nervously in his seat, shaking his head clear of water droplets that clung to the points of his bangs.
"Um, you booked me… I'm calling to make arrangements. I would have called sooner but I've been out all night".
Listening to the voice, Ran found himself trying to put a face to the husky sounding tone, an underlying accent he couldn't place was deep beneath the Japanese, he could tell that Japanese wasn't the others' first language.
"Oooh…oh yes, sorry, I'm a little dense when I first wake up".
He could have slapped himself, since when did he become such a babbling moron? The good impression he'd wanted to make was slowly moving further from his reach and Ran wondered if the word `moron' was stamped to his head right then.
"That's okay, I'm usually the same… well, when I've been to bed".
The voice on the other end laughed softly, and Ran found himself liking the sound more, and he felt more excited about his meeting, even if he was still a little worried over everything.
"Anyway, I just called to make arrangements, would you like to meet somewhere so we can talk this out, it's Friday night right?"
Taking a breath to calm down, Ran swept back the clinging hair from his face before answering.
"Hai, Friday night. I have work until six-thirty tonight, but we could meet afterwards if you wish?"
He hoped the other was free then, he wanted to get this sorted out, and found himself hating his job for the umpteenth time again.
"Sure, I'm free all night… I'll meet you at seven, after your work if you want to… crowded place and all that tosh".
Laughing slightly at the others amused tone; Ran relaxed slightly, twirling a wet lock of hair absently without realizing. He gave details of where he worked, nodding in agreement at certain things the other said. Ran felt slightly safer that they'd be meeting in a public area and before the actual night. He'd be to embarrassed if something went wrong before then. He guessed the other wasn't so bad, he sounded nice. To nice if he thought about it, he'd always liked voices, and the stranger on the phone's slight huskiness was helping towards making Ran more happy about his short meeting.
They talked a little more, until Ran knew he had to get off the phone or he'd be late for his waiter's job. College was out for the summer and he needed all the money he could get. Though the waiter's job sucked, in no way would he ever take up Yohji's offer of becoming a dancer.
"I have to go, but we'll meet tonight ne? How will I recognize you?"
The other paused and when he spoke, Ran could tell from his teasing tone the other was having fun at his expense.
"Don't worry, you'll know me".
Ran blinked a little. How would he recognize him? He had no inkling of what he looked like other than exotic and according to the first receptionist, cute. He paused his thoughts their. Near his work there weren't that many cute, exotic guys and hoped he'd be able to pick him out… his nervousness would probably alert the other to him anyway.
"I don't even know your name".
He pouted a little as he looked at the time ticking by on his watch, he was going to be late and wasn't even dressed yet.
"I'll tell you when we meet. Ja".
The line went dead and Ran clutched the phone tightly for a moment before he stood up quickly.
"Shit!"
Rushing around to get dressed, he hoped his boss would forgive him, and put the fact that he'd never been late in his life into context before firing him.
