Chapter two
Tokyo~17 years later~
Diseased.
Incurable.
Malignant.
Relentless.
Entirely.
Thoroughly.
Completely.
Fatal.
"An incurable infection in the liver, kidneys, and stomach."
Lord Yohji Kudou Balinese,(enjoy now, flame later^_^),still thought about the words that poured from the mouth of his physician like it was the fifth horseman of the apocalypse bringing with him the last plague of the world, despair.
"I'd like to run some more tests, see if...."
Yohji blocked him out not wanting to hear any more bad news. Although he trusted Dr. Brad Crawford, he still had a right to hope that maybe Crawford was wrong maybe he mightstill have a chance to live.
"Crawford I'd like to ask you a few questions if you don't mind?" Yohji interupted.
"yes of course sir, what did you need to know?" Crawford answered, giving his patient his full attention.
"you said that the infection had begun in my stomach and has now spread out to both my kidneys and my liver right?"
"correct"
"so then I'd just like to know how long do I have to live?" the dreaded question.
"Three months minimum, six months the most if not even that."
Another blow. Not even a full year, only half and that's if he's lucky. He needed to sit down. Easing himself onto the examining chair, Yohji just sat there and contemplated the thought of not making it till new years. Well hell if he was just gonna sit still and take this lying down.
"Crawford thank you for everything you've done for me today and I'll get ready to head on out if you don't mind." Yohji said, buttoning up his shirt from the exam, and putting on his coat.
"wait my lord, I still need to cover some more information about you medication." Crawford stood up getting his medicine bag as quickly as possible.
"about that, do I still take the same pills as before or am I gonna get something else?"
"no the pills I gave you before should do the trick, I'm just giving you more of them." he handed the bottle of pills to Yohji. "These should help with the discomfort and any pain you might feel, there are enough in there to get you through the next year, take at least one a day or as often as you need whenever the pain becomes to unbearable. I'd still like to take a few more tests later on perhaps a week from today? See how the medication takes effect. What do you say?"
"fine" Yohji answered half heartedly.
"well sir, call for me if you need anything, no matter the time or place and please,please let me know if anything changes alright. I am still you're physician and I do care about you sir." Crawford said looking intently into Yohji's green eyes.
Yohji sighed, "I will" he said, grabbing his bottle of medication and his other belongings he turned and left the room.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~Later that night~
He curled into himself, the pain unbearable, trying to get himself into a more comfortable position, Yohji twisted and bunched himself fetal like in his bed. His breathing ragged and quick making him brake out into a cold sweat. All the while his stomach hurt like someone shot a British cannon into his gut and forgot to take it out. Can't bear to take any more, Yohji reached out to the bottle of pills and jar of water he had on the floor beside his futon. Quickly taking two pills and chugging the water down to the point of choking, Yohji waited for the pills to take effect.
If anybody can see him now, but that's what he didn't want, what would people say? Noblemen, politicians or worse yet his brother! Yeah Eiri would throw a fit if he knew his older brother was dying of a wasting disease. Lord Eiri Uesugi Balinese,(sorry if I forgot to mention that this would be somewhat of a Gravitation crossover, but now you know^_^),better known as 'Yuki' by his lover, would literly throw a fit, get sarcastic, get mad, and then get every doctor from here to Egypt to come and make a diagnosis on him.
Hell, even Yohji's own staff would probably throw a fit and do the same thing if they knew. Another reason not to stick around, Yohji had contemplated the thought of leaving the manor and riding across the country through back roads. Staying at places no Noblemen of his stature would ever even give a second glance at. Yes that could be an excellent way of not being found. And that's what Yohji wants is to not be found, he dosen't want people he knows or cares about to see him in his last days, all diseased and crippled and god knows what other things will happen to him or what he'll look like by the time his end is near.
It's not that he's vain, cause it can be but it's not entirely that, it's mainly that he just dosen't want the pity and the tears. He wants people to remember him the way he looks now, young and handsome, shoulder length golden hair and honey colored skin and the most intense green eyes this side of Japan ever! But mainly he dosen't want to see the pity, the tears, the 'get better', 'we're here for you','we love you'. Well that last one isn't so bad, but the rest will just finalize the realization that he won't live to see his brother at new years, that he won't get to see the result of the new government, but mainly that he won't get to marry the person he loves.
Asuka was the perfect wife, dutiful, beautiful, obedient, Dull. Yes Yohji loved her but still there was something about her that simply stated they were better as brother and sister thanhusband and wife. It wasn't her fault they were married, arranged marriage and all, and they had great times together but the love that was needed was simply not there. The only times they shared the same futon was to try to create an heir, but that didn't happen and soon it became a blessing she didn't get pregnant for not long after their marriage she got sick and died a year later. Not the same sickness as his but fatal all the same.
He spent two years mourning her death and now it was time to find a new wife. He was hoping to find someone that he will truly love and that will truly love him in return. But fate has an alterior motive and now things are no longer in his hands. At least time wise, what he does until his time of death is totally up to him and he's gonna see that he enjoys every last breath of his until it's gone.
Decision made Yohji finally was able to sleep, pain subsiding. The next morning he was going to grab his horse, Seven, and together they were going to ride the country side. It was about time he lived the way he wanted to and now nothing short of death was going to stop him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~Morning~
Yohji was ready, he had Seven, his sack with at least four changes of spare clothing, food, money, and more importantly a motive.
Making the decision to tell no one where he was going, he left his personal information at home, everything but the family insignia, the ring with the family crest on it. He didn't want the weight of what he is to hold down what he can do and the freedom he so rightously proclaimed. He will however tell his brother, need calls for duty and it's only right that the only other person to know his unfortunate circumstances should be the only other living relative he has.
Riding off towards Eiri's manor, Yohji only hopes that his brother will take the news calmly if not than everyone in Japan will know about his circumstances, and if that's the case then everything will truly be gone.

"Aya I need you!" Manx Takatori cried out,"my hair won't stay in place and I can't find my fan!"
"Look in your sash the fan should be there and I'll fix your hair in a minute" Aya called back to his adoptive mother.
"Aya when you're done over there can you help Farfarello finish putting up the tent" Shuichi Takatori called out from his dressing room.
"Alright dad, just give me a moment" Aya called back nonchantedly.
The Takatori Theatre Troupe consisted of five full actors: Manx Takatori the leading lady in all plays, Shuichi Takatori the leading man in all plays, their daughter Ouka the second leading lady, her younger brother Omi plays all the young roles because of his young looks and innocent eyes. And lastly the second leading man and the most infuriating of them all, Schuldig.
As of right now the Takatori Theatre Troupe is playing a scene from the Tales of Genji, one of Japans most famous love stories from all time.
And everythings a mess!
"Aya I found my fan but my hair's still a mess!" cried Manx
"I'll be right over after I help Farfarello finish putting up the tent"
"don't be long, I thing Ouka needs your help too and we need one more geisha on stage for the last scene so you'll have to play the part" Manx called out.
"Alright"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~somewhere in Japan~
It's been about nine hours and he's still lost. How do you get lost on a straight road? Any how It's dark out and he missed lunch due to a little sidetrack, so his ever demanding stomach is crying out in hunger if not in pain.
Coming up to the gates of another village, Yohji gives up the reins of Seven to a young urchin along with a five yen piece to take care of his beloved horse, he steadly made his way to the closest inn. Walking in Yohji saw many variations of flowers all carefully decorated around the lobby of the inn.
Behind the counter sat an old lady petting her cat.
"Konbanwa, I need a room for the night and some food." Yohji stated, pulling out a few coins.
"Konbanwa, namae Momoe desu." said little old lady, strictly traditional.
"Konbanwa, Momoesan, namae Yohji desu." Yohji greeted back politely.
Momoe bowed before pulling out an old ledger and handing it to Yohji. Yohji signed his name, leaving out 'Lord' and 'Balinese'. Just Yohji Kudou plain and simple.
After aquiring his room, and some dinner Yohji was ready to set about town, there's usually something going on in these small villages and he was right. A theater troupe was in town and it looks as if though everyone was going to be there.
As Yohji walked away after purchasing his ticket, he noticed that a few residents of the village were just standing outside, looking longingly at the villagers who went in.
Yohji realized that these people probably didn't have the money to buy tickets to see the show. Having been raised by one of the most kindest men on earth, Yohji didn't have the heart to just let them stand there and not enjoy what should be a community event. He pulled out his money from his pocket and counted it. Enough, just enough to pay for everyone, and I mean everyone, by god this was gonna be a community event, if he had to triple the price!
Getting back in line Yohji waited his turn and then spoke softly to the man selling the tickets, this guy had white hair, one yellow eye and a hell of a lot of scars.
After convincing this man, Farfarello, to give out the tickets free and refunding the money to all the other villagers who paid, Yohji paid him for all the seats in the house, times three.
After aquiring his seat which happened to be the best seat in the house, Yohji sat back and waited for the show to begin, he hadn't seen any of the plays performed by this theater troupe, but already he was having a good time.
