Chapter Four

Day Eighty-Eight cont.......
~sometime afternoon, somewhere in Japan~

Sometimes when life throws you lemons you make lemonade, but when gorgeous men just kiss you breathless and leave you stumped what the hell are you supposed to make with that? Yohji's kiss had all but left the poor redhead flustered, fustrated and frisky as all hell. There he was stumped and stupified while the one man who stole his first kiss just smiles at him and walks out the door. If life ever teaches you anything it's that it loves to confuse you and laugh at you.

That morning, after the heated kiss, Aya went to his and Omi's room and packed his belongings. The troupe was headed out to another village and they needed to get an early start. An hour later everyone was ready and on their way. Aya and Farfarello drove the wagons with the equipment and costumes while most everyone else had their own wagon or were riding their own horse. They had a six hour ride ahead of them which was fine since they had nice scenery. Everyone was commenting on the beauty of the cherry blossoms, everyone but Aya who didn't even notice. That is until Ouka called out to him and got his attention.

"Aya don't you think these cherry blossoms are beautiful, there just simply lovely." Ouka said cheerfully.

"Yes there are lovely" Lovely and beautiful, just like someone he knows.

"Papa why don't we stop for a little while and have a picnic under the falling cherry blossoms? It's such a beautiful day and there's a river over there. Papa please say yes." Ouka pleaded with her father Shuichi while giving him the large puppy eyes effect.

"That sounds like fun, what do you say mother?" Omi asked riding alongside Manx.

"I don't know if we have the time for a picnic, we have four more hours until we reach our next stop." Manx stated.

"I'm sure we have some time to spare Manx, it looks as though Ouka's right there's the Kohaku river over there and I am a bit hungry. It'll give us time to stretch our legs and let the horses rest a bit. What say you Aya?" Shuichi asked turning back to look at Aya.

"Sounds good"

"well then that's all settled, Farfarello please inform everyone to head on to our next destination and to meet us there. How about we ride up ahead and find a place where we can tie the horses to shall we Ouka?" Shuichi asked enjoying the pleasant smile on his daughters face.

"YES!" she shouted as she took off, Shuichi right beside her.

Farfarello informed everyone to continue on and the troupe headed on down the road, all except the main family. Farfarello headed to the picnic area and dismounted his wagon. Ouka had chosen a nice large grassy area with a clean view of the river. She waved at them and signaled them over. Aya smiled as he watched his family gallop towards their chosen picnic spot. He truly was lucky to have encountered Shuichi and Manx that night all those years ago. If it wasn't for them he wouldn't be here today and he wouldn't have a happy loving family that he does now. He barely remembers anything before meeting the Takatori's but he remembers that night as clear as crystal. Every night he prayed to all gods the same that nothing ever happened to his family, without them his world would crumble.

Reaching his estatic family Aya dismounted the wagon and tied the reins of the horse to a branch nearby. He accompanied Manx in distributing food for everyone.

Ouka and Omi were observing the river while his father was laying on the grass alongside Farfarello, commenting on the weather. The river looked full today, must have been from the rain that fell just three days ago. That had been an unusally gloomy day the emotion he picked up from that storm seemed desperate and resembling something almost like despair. Aya shook his head sometimes he swears he could be an empath.

Ouka enjoyed the cherry blossoms, it was after all her favourite season and what a wonderful day for a picnic. She stretched out her arms out and tilted her head back as she began to spin around in a dizzying fashion. She spun herself until she fell laughing to the ground, listening to the chirps of the birds and the sound of the rushing river. She sat up and removed her hair ribbon, it was her favourite ribbon the one her mother gave her for her sixteenth birthday. It was and interesting indigo color and the material was a soft silk.

Ouka smoothed out the ribbon before reaching behind her head to tie it in place when a strong gust of wind took her by suprise and slipped the material between her fingers and into the air. It flew gracefully around in small circles before intangeling itself up on the highest branch of one of the taller trees.

"Oh no Omi look my ribbon is tangled up on that branch" Ouka whined looking at her younger brother.

Omi looked up to see the piece of cloth entwined on a branch, "I don't know what to say Ouka, it's pretty high up there and the river is just below that branch I don't think you should climb that tree." Omi stated.

"That's why you're going to climb it for me Omi" Ouka stated matter-of-factly.

"What? Ouka you can't be serious, that's a dangerous risk over one ribbon don't you think?"

"I don't care that's my favourite ribbon and I want it back and if you're to chicken to climb that tree then I'll have to get it myself." Ouka hiked up her kimono to her knees and started to climb the tree when Omi stopped her.

"Ouka wait! Don't! I'll do it just get down before you hurt yourself please" Omi helped his sister get down before he began his trip up the tree.

Halfway up the trunk his sandel slipped and he almost fell. The branch was extended out over the river, Omi would have to climb onto the limb if he wanted to reach the ribbon. Stretching his body slowly across the limb he reached out with his fingers to grab the indigo ribbon. Just as he managed to get ahold of it another strong gust of wind shook the tree and almost made Omi lose his hold on the ribbon. When he had a better grip on the material he stuffed it into his pocket and started working his way back to the trunk of the tree.

Crawling backwords Omi almost made it when the branch had had enough and decided to snap and fall taking Omi with it. Omi fell quickly into the rushing river below and soon lost himself in the watery current.

"OMI!" Ouka screamed out for her brother as she watched him fall off the tree and into the Kohaku River.

Her scream had gathered everyones attention and soon everyone was rushing towards the river trying to spot the boy. Aya looked about trying to find his little brother when...there! There he was surfacing from under the water and flailing his arms around.

"Dad there he is look I see him" Aya darted over towards a log that was sticking out into the water. Omi was struggling trying to keep afloat while the river was rushing him by at a dangerous speed.

"HELP!" was all he could say before he was washed under by a current.

"OMI! Oh god Shuichi do something before he drowns! Omi can't swim remember!" Manx wailed out running alongside the river bed trying to keep up with the current.

"Farfarello do you see anything we could use to get him out of there? We need something that we could toss over to him maybe rope or something? Do we have any spare rope that's long enough?" Shuichi panicked watching his young son being swept away by the angry element.

"We need to get him out of there before he drowns" Aya said "I'm going in after him".

"Wait Aya the current is too strong and you'll be swept away as well. We need to find something that we can use to pull him out to safety" Manx yelled out.

"If we wait any longer Omi's going to drown!"

"But I can't bear to lose two sons!" Manx cried clutching Ayas shirt with both hands.

Aya was about to answer when he heard a yell and turned in time to see someone falling in to the river.

Some days you just wish that karma would get off her lazy butt and slap you sideways into sunday. How could he just kiss the boy and walk out on him? That had obviously been the mans first kiss and he just stole it from him. Hmnn...first kiss means first everything dosen't it?

Shaking his head clear of any naughty thoughts Yohji sighed and looked up. How many more times will he see the cherry blossoms fall? This was probably going to be the last chance he'll get to admire the beautiful scene of nature. Promising to not take anything for granted while he was still alive, Yohji stopped under the cherry trees and held his hand out and watched as a single pale petal floated down to land on his palm. It's pinkish color reminded him of Ayas soft lips flushed and swollen from a deep kiss. The soft texture reminded him of Ayas pale and deliciously soft skin. Yohji closed his hand and his eyes, never had he felt such strong emotions for someone before. Sure he loved Auska but she was more of a friend than a lover and all those other people he dated were just an excuse to kill time. The only peole that Yohji really cared about were his brother and his brothers lover. They're the only family he has left.

A familiar gastral pain was beginning to announce its pressence and Yohji dismounted Seven. He almost forgot about Seven, his faithful horse who on more than one occassion saved his worthless hide. Seven, a gift from his brother Eiri, was more than just a his horse he was his friend and maybe even the fourth member of his small family. Yohji grabbed Sevens reins and led him towards the Kohaku River. From here Yohji could hear the gushing sounds of the river and continued his trek down a worn path. Upon reaching a cliff that overlooked the river Yohji gasped as a sharp pain began its ritual of torture. Yohji let go of Sevens reins and settled himself slowly on the grass. He pulled out his bottle of pills and took one tablet. Yohji made a face as he swallowed the pill, he never could get used to the flavor of those pills. Crawford said there were supposed to be herbal anti-inflammatory lined with opium, for the pain. He never told him they would taste bad, nothing at all like his Ayas taste.

Laying on his back Yohji stared up at the soft greyish-blue sky and waited for the pill to take effect. Closing his eyes, he allowed sleep to claim him. He didn't even bother to tie up Seven seeing as how the horse would never leave his side.

Yohji woke up to the sounds of screaming and yelling below the cliff. He sat up and rubbed the sleep off his face, how long had he been there? The position of the sun and the fact that he felt better than he did in days signifies that he's been there for some time. Maybe a few hours. Seven sat there looking at him wondering how much longer there were going to stay there before he turned his large head back towards the edge of the cliff at the sounds of yelling. So maybe those sounds hadn't been just a dream Yohji thought as he stood and peered over the side. From what he could make out it looked as though someone was in the water and having a hard time trying to stay afloat.Some people were running alongside the riverbed trying to keep up with the flow of the river. It looked like it was a small boy that was in the water, didn't look like he could swim either.

Yohji saw four possible outcomes for this situation. One he could turn around and let the boy drown while he lives for the next three miserable months. Two he could jump off this very cliff and reach the boy only to be unable to save him and they both die. Three he jumps of the cliff manages to save the boy but then he dies. And four he jumps the cliff and miraculously saves the boy and himself. Hmmm? What to do?Although Yohji considered himself chivalrous he never saw himself as a hero. Well times change and if he wants to prove that he's making his own destiny here's the perfect chance. Hell if he pulls it off he could consider it his final atonement for all his times of 'momentary stupidity' as Eiri loved to call them. Decision made Yohji took a few steps back before he took a running leap off the cliff. With a yell he fell towards the water and landed in with a large splash. Here goes nothing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Aya ran alongside the river bed keeping an eye out for the two people in the water. Shuichi and Farfarello were trying to find things that they could use to block Omis path and allow him to stay afloat. There were many logs embedded along the river bed and Omi was struggling to get to one, he was just about to make it to one when the current picked up and pulled him away. Lacking the strength to do nothing more than paddle Omi started when he felt strong arms engulf him and start pulling him towards the logs. Yohji grabbed the boy around the shoulders and started swimming slowly but strongly towards the logs. He reached one and told Omi to hang onto it so he could get to shore. As he was pulling himself and Omi towards the edge Yohji heared yells accompanied by the sound of running feet. But still too far away, he needed something sturdy to pull them to shore.
Omis grip on the wood was beginning to fail and soon Yohji had to keep a hold of Omi again as he was pulling them. Damn the current was strong, it kept them moving further and further away. Splashing and a nasal whine got Yohjis attention as Seven made its way into the water.
"Seven stop!" Yohji yelled, Seven stopped upon hearing his masters command and stood vigil by, just a few feet away from shore.
As soon as the water rushed them by Seven Yohji grabbed onto the horses reins.
"Seven pull back now" he instructed, Seven started to make it's way back towards the riverbed. Yohji wrapped the reins around Omis wrists and told Seven to pull back some more. He almost made it when the log they had attached themselves previoulsy to, spun around and hit Yohji on the side of his head along his temple. Stars erupted in his vision and Yohjis grip on Seven became loose. Well at least he saved the boy Yohji thought just before the darkness took him and his hand let go.
"There they are! Oh my god! Shuichi hurry that man just took a hit to the head!" Manx yelled out.
Both Shuichi and Farfarello reached Omi and released the tie around his wrists. Aya took off to help the other man who was currently being held afloat by the very same log that hit him. The log floated down and jammed itself between another log that was embedded in the shore. Aya ran towards the second log and crawled across it.
"Be careful Aya that log's slippery" Shuichi called out handing Omi over to his mother and heading over to Aya. Farfarello brought Seven over and all four of them reached over to where Yohji was and after securing Yohjis wrists with Sevens reins, in the same manner that Yohji did to Omi, they pulled him out of the water.
Aya was the first to reach down and check Yohji for a pulse, relief spread through him upon finding one. Wiping back the hair from his face Aya was shocked to see that it was Yohji. Aya carressed Yohjis cheek with his knuckles and thanked the heavens for allowing him to live.
"How is he Aya?" Shuichi asked.
"He's has a head injury and he's unconciouss but he's alive and he'll need a doctor. How's Omi?"
"He's fine, he's getting an earful from his mother though."
Aya nodded never taking his eyes off of Yohji. Farfarello brought a blanket from one of the wagons and held it out to Aya. Aya took the blanket and proceeded to wrap Yohji in it.
"Oh mama I'm sorry, this was all my fault!" Ouka cried, "I told Omi to get my ribbon back and he did and then he fell and...and..."
"Hush Ouka it's alright, let's just be thankful that he's alive. But I hoped you learn your lesson young lady. That goes for you too young man." Manx scowled at her young offspring.
"H...here Ouka I...got you ribbon f...for you" Omi held the ribbon up proudly.
"Oh Omi!" Ouka cried and laughed at the same time hugging her brother.
"Alright everyone that's enough adventure for one lifetime, let's get back on the road and head on out." Shuichi clapped his hands and everyone went back to their horses. Farfarello picked Omi up and carried him to his wagon where he was to ride out the rest of the trip.
"Aya why don't you take him in your wagon." Manx instructed looking at Yohji.
"Yes mother" Aya responded. He slid his arms under Yohji and cradled him to his chest. He carried him to his wagon and laid him gently upon the costumes. Adjusting Yohji so that Aya could keep an eye on him, Aya tied Seven to the back of his wagon and descended down the road.
Everything was beautiful and warm, there was flower fields everywhere and the sun was gracious. But what made Yohji so unnaturally happy was the person he was currently making out with. A lusious body, the sweet taste of the man's skin. Yes it was a man, Yohji noticed this when he failed to find breasts on his current wet dream. Yohji slid his hands under the mans shirt and tweaked a nipple, savoring a moan that went straight to his groin. Yohji laid himself down on top of the man and continued to kiss the curve of his neck. Hmmmnnnn....delicious, Yohji cracked an eye open and all he could see was that the guy had red hair.Soft skin under his fingertips, Yohji couldn't wait to taste the mans lips and so he didn't. Yohji pulled the man closer to him and pressed his lips to his. Warm and soft just like he expected, Yohji devoured those lips and when the man gasped he slid his tongue in and tasted him further. Gods he loved this taste! Hearing the man moan just made Yohji even harder. The beautiful creature was kissing him with full fervor, and Yohji loved it. Then all of a sudden the beautiful enigma was pushing at his chest murmuring something about 'obviously feeling better'.
Yohji cracked open an eye only to have violet eyes staring intently at him. Aya. Yohji opened both eyes immediately and stared at Aya who was again blushing much to his delight and sporting flushed pink lips. Oy! he was actually kissing Aya even through his dreams.
"Apparently you're feeling better" Aya said, avoiding Yohjis questioning eyes and lusious lips.
Yohji licked his lips and winked at Aya, "much better".
Aya blushed harder and turned his gaze away from Yohji. "I'm glad, you've been out of it for almost five hours." Aya began, "I would have contacted you family but you seem to prefer not carrying any identification."
Yohji shrugged "too much weight" he commented.
"Well I brought you some food and your clothes are being washed and mended. There are some spare clothes over there on the chair. Farfarello is trying to salvage you boots. I have some errends to do but I'll be back in a little while, if you need anything my mother is outside and she'll be checking up on you." Aya said. He lifted himself off of Yohjis bed and treked his way to the door. "Yohji thank you for saving my little brother, he...they are all I have and if I even lose one of them my whole world would crumble" Aya whispered gripping the door handle "so thank you". With that Aya left the room.
Yohji watched Aya until the door closed, he laid down and raised his arms above his head in a pillow fashion. Thinking about what Aya said, reminded him of his own brother. Closing his eyes he once again fell asleep. 'I know what you mean Aya, I know exactly what you mean.'
