Chapter Thirteen

Mt. Fuji
Day Fifty-Five

"Today I begin the preparations for my passing. I have spent the most wonderful three weeks of my life here at mother's cherished cottage. Aya and I have shared not only our bodies, but our minds, our souls and our hearts. Today we begin our return back to Tokyo, to Balinese Manor. Our honeymoon is officially over and as much as I would protest I cannot delay this matter much longer. I am to write my final will and testament. I have only fifty five days left...

When I first began my journey to rediscover myself...I had no idea that my life would change so dramatically for the better...just as it will soon end. I have met many interesting people, made new family. Fell in love, 'married' the true love my life and gained a new sense of living. I have never been the happiest as I am now. But my time is running short...I can feel it. My disease has not receded nor has it given any confidence of slowing its progress in slowly killing me. Dr. Crawford had estimated three months minimum that this disease will consume me. I feel as if I may only have less then one month left.

In these past three weeks, I had at least three to four attacks per day. Not including the ones I hid from my lover. Aya has been very supportive and calm with me, yet I know, I see it in his face that he fears the day that will come. I wish to any god that will listen to me and grant me my wish...that I had a way, any way to ease his pain. My own pain, my own life I care nothing for. It is all about him, he is my life now.

I will do anything for him.

Before I left Wing Castle I had requested Lord Heero Yuy to help me find the true family history of my love Aya. He had estimated one month until I had the information I wanted. He gave it to me in three weeks. The letter arrived just this morning, another reason for our departure back home. I need to give Aya his final gift from me. I also have one other objective.

Eiri, I need to tell my brother about my condition and tell him how much he means to me. I need to make amends with him, for the sake of his own conscious. I wanted this to be done before my body can no longer support me before I spend the last few days withering away in my bed waiting for the Shinigami that will take me. As it is my body already has gone through drastic changes. I can no longer eat solid foods. Nothing will stay in my stomach anymore. I have lost a large amount of weight and my muscles are becoming weak and lax. My energy is draining from my body...to the point where I could not even finish a loving session without collapsing from exhaustion. I have spent many hours just sleeping away my life while my lover watches helplessly, unable to do anything. I caught him sobbing behind the cottage the other night, when he believed that I was asleep. My heart broke. It's my fault that I made him cry, I'm putting him through such pain that I feel I've committed the worst sin.

"Yohji! The carriage is ready." Aya called out.

Yohji nodded to him and returned his attention back to the small shrine.

"I'm sorry Father for not visiting before. But I felt as if I should also make amends with you. I never had the chance to correct things before your death...but I will by all means correct them now before mine." Yohji kneeled and prayed.

After a few moments he stood up, "Sayonara Otousan. I will be seeing you soon"

Day Fifty-four

"Wufei are you sure this is not another one of Duos pranks?" A strawberry blonde woman stood next to a Chinese man dressed in medicinal robes.

"I'm very certain Sally, the seriousness of the letter proved to me that he is not joking. Besides...this quest concerns Lord Yohji." Wufei stood at the edge of the deck overlooking the sea as they still had one more week until they reached Japan.

"Lord Yohji?"

"An honorable man I've met only once but I greatly admire him for his courage and discipline. He saved my life."

"So you intend to fulfill your duty by saving his?" Sally asked.

Wufei nodded, "It is the honorable thing to do."

Sally nodded then shrugged, she never did understand the meaning of Chinese Honor. But for the sake of her husband...she just hopes they get there in time.

-Evening-
Day Fifty

"Yohji we're here." Aya gently shook his husband awake. Yohji slowly opened his eyes, his emerald irises barely visible around his dilated pupils. He gathered his robes and Aya helped him exit the carriage. Five days of slow travel wore his body out, exhaustion and pain forcing him to take his pills more frequently. He stumbled lightly and Aya held him upright. Together they made it to the master bedroom and he lay down on the soft mattress of the futon. At Ayas request a footman brought more blankets and a jug of milk.

"Yotan wake up, you need to have something in your stomach. You need to drink something; I had the footman bring you some milk. You do like milk don't you?" Aya sat next to Yohji and delicately lifted his head. He pressed the edge of the jug to Yohji's lips and cautiously tipped the jug to let his husband drink. Yohji continued to drink until a pulsating pain ripped through his esophagus and stomach. He choked up on the last mouthful of milk and spilled it all over himself. Aya quickly began rubbing his back to keep him from choking fully. Yohji gasped as the pain continued to scorch his insides. His eyes clenched tightly as the wave of pain slowly started to subside, his breathing erratic.

"Yotan love do you need anything?"

Yohji grimaced at the vile taste in his mouth and shook his head. Sleep, his body is badly craving rest, to just lie down and close his eyes.

"I'll be right here if you need me." Aya whispered into his ear before lying down behind him, spooning him.

Yohji reached around and grabbed Ayas arm and wrapped it around his waist, hugging his husbands' appendage to him. He closed his eyes and let his unconsciousness drift him away from the pain.

Aya stayed still, simply lying there behind Yohji just listening as his lovers breathing slowed down signifying his slumber. He propped himself onto his elbow and gently turned Yohji onto his back. Even in sleep Yohji showed signs of discomfort and pain. Aya caressed his husbands' cheek, feeling the smooth silk of his skin beneath his fingertips.

"You're such an amazing person Yotan." Aya whispered softly. "I don't know how I'm going to get through this alone. I don't want you to go." Aya fought back the tears. "I'm going to have to be strong for both of us won't I?" Aya continued caressing his sleeping lover, "You know...when I first laid eyes on you. Back in that village, I knew you were special. You just stood out on your own. Like a flower among the weeds. Like an orchid in full blossom."

Yohji mumbled quietly, shifting a little. Aya pulled the blankets up higher around them both. He moved his hand to caress Yohjis' collarbone.

"You're so thin. I wish you could eat better, maybe it would help with the disease." Aya brushed his fingertips over the soft contours of Yohjis' collarbone and chest. "When I was growing up...I used to believe that my real family would come one day and sweep me into their arms. That they would tell me they were looking for me and that they love me. I told my mother that once and she smiled at me, but later I caught her crying into my papa's shoulder. I knew it had to do with what I had told her earlier. I promised myself that nothing is as important as my family. I couldn't bear the thought of hurting them. I was always afraid that if I made them angry or if I didn't obey properly...that they would send me back into the streets." He stopped as Yohji 'huffed'. Aya blinked and stared at his lover, "I know they would never do that, but it wasn't until I was older that I learned that." He smiled and continued caressing, "I guess that's why I always did my best in everything. I always tried to make my parents happy; I didn't want them to put me back into the streets. I guess they caught on when I was about twelve because they both reassured me that they loved me as one of their own natural children."

Aya stopped as he tried to figure out the meaning behind his sudden childhood confession. He frowned as he realized he had none.

"I guess...I guess I just wanted to give you a piece of me. Maybe I'm being selfish but...I want you to remember me always. Even after your death...especially after your death." Aya frowned, "I won't admit this openly but, I almost wish I was a woman. At least that way I could have your child, a way to keep a piece of you with me."

"If you were women...we'd already have a passel of brats."

Aya stiffened in surprise. Yohji lay there with his eyes half open and glazed over by the drugs.

"Yotan how do you feel? Is there anything you need?" Aya gushed, he moved to get up but a firm hand grabbed his wrist.

"No....stay. I'm fine I just want to hear your voice some more. Tell me more about yourself."

"How long have you been listening?" Aya raised a brow.

"Since where you said I was like an orchid."

"So you did huff earlier didn't you?"

Yohji smirked. Aya pouted.

"But how do you feel really?"

"I'm fine. I'm not hurting right now...just sleepy." He yawned.

Aya kissed his brow. "Sleep I'll be right here."

"You'll wake me in the morning?"

"Yes...I'll wake you in the morning." Aya re-tucked the blankets around Yohji.

"Oh-Okay...good." Yohji yawned one more time and closed his eyes. "Tell me more about yourself love...I want to learn everything there is to know about you."

Aya nodded. Even though there is nothing he can do to save his lovers life, they still had each other right now, and that's all that mattered.

If only he could convince himself of that.

-Morning-
Day Forty-Nine
-Lady Unes' office-

"Lord Yohjisan it is a pleasure to finally meet you." Lady Une bowed politely to both Yohji and Aya. They both bowed in return.

"Lady Une I would like to present my partner Aya Takatori." Yohji introduced.

"Yes, Takatorisan I've heard much about you." Lady Une smiled. "Please won't you both take a seat?" Une directed them to two chairs placed in front of her desk. "Would you like some tea?"

Aya declined politely. "No thank you."

"I'd like som-" Yohji was cut off by a bout of harsh coughs that burned his lungs and shook his insides painfully.

"Yohji!" Aya flew out of his chair and kneeled before Yohji.

"I'm fine...need...water" Yohji coughed.

Lady Une already had a cup of tea prepared and handed it to Aya. The redhead took the proffered cup and helped his lover to soothe his throat.

"Feel better?" He asked worriedly.

Yohji nodded. He waved his hand at Une, "Let's get this over with."

Une opened her desk drawer and pulled out a large envelope. She dropped the heavy envelope onto the desk capturing the attention of the worried redhead. "I followed the directions in the letter Heero sent me." She began, "Using the information you provided I managed to find everything you were looking for."

"So what did you find?" Yohji asked before he took a sip of tea.

"Well, my first priority was to make sure that nothing I find leads back to any of you." Une said. "I completely understand your need to stay undiscovered...and for good reason as well."

"So what did you find?" Yohji asked eagerly.

"Like I said...everything." Lady Une smirked as she glanced at Aya.

Aya, completely lost in the conversation, frowned in confusion. Lady Une walked around from behind her desk and stood before Aya. She leaned her lower half against the desk, and crossed her arms. Aya still bewildered looked at his lover than back to the lady and back to Yohji again.

"Tell me Aya. Do you remember anything about your life before the streets?" Lady Une questioned.

Aya glared in unease, "Why do you ask?" he said sharply.

"Aya love maybe I should have told you but...I had Lady Une do research for me." Yohji explained.

"What kind of research?" Aya turned his glare over to his lover. Anger rising at the thought of a complete stranger knowing about his time as a street rat.

"Research on you." Yohji said, "I wanted to give you something before I leave. I remember right before we married that you wish you had the chance to know you're real identity."

Aya blanched, all color leaving his already pale face. "Y-You mean y-you..."

"In this envelope I have your complete family history. Your parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, basically the history genealogy. As well as political influences and relations. Also the financial status of your family history...as well as final will and testament." Lady Une said holding up the envelope.

Aya sat there speechless, stunned. He instinctively reached out to take the envelope from Une but she pulled back out of reach.

"A warning for you, once you've read this...you can't go back to the way things were before. Once you've learned of your real life...you won't be able to forget it. So you should think about what it is you really want. The life you have now...or the life you had before." Une stood there waiting for an answer from the indecisive redhead.

"Whatever you choose Aya...I'll be behind you all the way." Yohji leaned over and gave his lovers hand a comforting squeeze.

Aya sat there with the weight of the world on his shoulders. What to do? Past or present? All his life he's always wondered...always wanted the chance to find out. Now he does...now he has the chance he's always wanted, but what to do? Will he be betraying his current family by learning of his past one? What if he doesn't like what he finds out? Maybe his family was of the lowest kind? Who in their right mind would abandon a child? Or maybe they were traitors? What if they're still out there?

"Love?"

Aya took a deep breath to calm his nerves. He took a look at the envelope still held firmly in Lady Unes' hand. That's the other thing. Would it upset his blond lover if he decides not to read the information? He said it's a gift...his final gift.

"I'll take it." Aya blurted before he could change his mind.

"Are you certain that this is what you want?" Une asked one more time.

For Yohji..."Yes"

Une nodded, "Very well." She handed the envelope to Aya. "This is intensely personal information. So you might want to read it in the privacy of your home."

Aya agreed and unconsciously hugged the envelope close to him, absolutely curious now that he's decided to know.

"I can't believe this, it-it seems unreal. I don't even know where to begin." Aya said still clutching the small package.

"How about a name?" Yohji said.

"Yes, that would probably be the best place to begin your discovery." Une said smiling.

Aya looked at both of them nervously. Would it be that simple?

"What's my name?" He asked anxiously. How he hopes it's not something stupid.

"Your name?" Une asked. Aya nodded.

"Your name...."

Aya fought back the lump in his throat, oh Buddha he's so nervous.

"...is Ran Fujimiya."
