Fragile
-Iris-
He could have any girl he wanted. But he chose me. I don't know
why. I am just me. I am no one special. Well…
“What can I get you to drink?” I asked.
“Water, please,” he said.
“Coming up,” I said. I turned and walked back to the kitchen. He
makes me nervous. Not in a bad way. It's just…
I cleared my thought. Right. He wanted water. I filled a glass and
took it to him.
“Here you are,” I said. I handed him the glass.
“Thank you,” he said. I stood for a moment.
“Are you ready to order?” I asked.
“Do you have anything light to eat?” he asked. I took a moment to
think.
“There is a veggie miso soup here,” I said. “It's light and
healthy.” He leaned back in his booth.
“Hm,” he said. “Is it good?”
“Oh yes,” I said. “The customers here love it.” He thought about it
for a moment. I waited with bated breath.
“I'll take it,” he said.
“Coming up,” I said. I turned and walked back to the kitchen.
I know what will happen next. He is already in love with me. I
don't know how I feel about him. But we will date soon. It won't
last. We are going to die next year. We could've had a future
together. I would be his wife. I would be a mother. We would grow
old and die together. Sadly, that wasn't going to happen.
“Here you are,” I said as I handed him his soup.
“Thank you,” he said. I was about to walk to the counter.
“Wait,” he said. I stopped and looked over my shoulder. He smiled
at me.
“Care to sit with me?” he asked. I paused. My cheeks turned
red.
“Oh… um… uh… uh…” was all I could spit out. He frowned at me.
“Too forward?” he asked. I quickly shook my head.
“No, I don't mind,” I said. I slid into the booth across from him.
This would be us for now. And honestly, it felt nice.
