The Hunter was weary.

She had trotted down the same street for the past minutes, searching for her prey that had disappeared among the shadows, its lightning-quick reflexes throwing her off-track, but it wasn't enough for her to stop. Nothing would be, short of its death.

"Rose, come in. Rose, do you copy?" The voice in her ear piece startled her momentarily and she slowed down for a moment to reply to Cedar, her teamleader.

"Si, I'm here. I'm on it. It won't get away this time." Her heavily accented English was breathed back into the mouth piece - their Cause knew no bounds to languages or nationalities, nor to genders. They all had one thing in common - the hunt for the creatures of darkness and death.

"Good. Report back in ten if you haven't found it." They were a team of six out this night - another woman besides herself - and they had been following the movements of this one for half the week, ever since it had been discovered in a club last Saturday. She was glad that she was on the team sent to put it down - it was something about this one that had her on her toes. It didn't behave with the same caution as they usually did, but that could be explained by the fact that it seemed to be young, perhaps not more than a year or two old. But even a newly hatched snake would be poisonous.

Breathing slowly through her nose, she tried to imagine where the wretched creature could have disappeared, watching the darkness around her as her legs carried her forward, the steady 'thud-thud-thud' of her shoes against the ground was born from a certainty of what she did was right. She had done the same thing for the past twelve years, and she had been successful. She had been with one team after another, bringing them down to be sentenced to death, the same death they threatened humans with by their very beings. This was the only life she knew, and the only one she needed.

There! A flash of silver in the darkness, and she was off again, her heart beat steadily in her chest - this was just routine, nothing more - as she moved through the dark in complete silence. It would never know she was there...

It was standing there with its back to her, head cocked to one side. The broad back shrugged in a casual way as it seemed to be talking to someone, without doubt another of its victims and she felt the anger rise as she gathered herself to leap into the attack. She never got the chance.

Something else flashed in the dull light of the streetlamps and the Hunter took one involuntarily step back as another male flowed out from the shadows, heading straight for her prey. Before any of them had had the chance to react, the newcomer had knocked the one she had followed down, the taller male falling to the ground without a sound. She caught a splash of bloodred hair as the new one crouched on the ground beside the larger male before he lifted him up and disappeared back into the shadows, not making another sound.

Red hair.

Like blood.

She would remember that.

Okay... The prologue done at least. Don't know what else I can say about it... Expect the beginning of the 'chapter' the next few days... :)
