Mistletoe

Tomorrow was Christmas Day. Omi had insisted that they put up a tree and exchange gifts tomorrow, but Aya had never celebrated the holiday in the past, so the fact that tonight was Christmas Eve made no difference to him. As far as Aya was concerned, tonight was just another night, no different from any other. That was what he kept telling himself.

In truth, Aya was brooding far more tonight than normal. He was currently curled up in his bed reading a book. Well, maybe not reading it as it was opened to a page that hadn't been turned in over thirty minutes. He was feeling the loss of his family, especially his sister who thought him dead in order to protect her, more keenly this night than he had in ages. Maybe it was the fact that he had become true friends with his teammates. Or maybe it was because his thoughts kept drifting to one certain teammate, bringing home to him just how alone he was in the world.

Ironic how he had developed feelings for the one person who no longer knew the meaning of the term “relationship”. But even that was a moot point when there was no indication that his feelings were reciprocated anyway. Aya had watched the blond covertly the past several months, both to admire and maybe hoping to catch a glimpse of interest in those lovely green eyes. Anytime Aya caught Yohji's gaze, it was quickly averted by the blond. It seemed Yohji wanted nothing to do with Aya, even going so far as to avoid him whenever possible. How could he possibly hope to have his feelings returned by the king of love `em and leave `em?

Still brooding, Aya was suddenly distracted from his thoughts by something sliding under his door.

Yohji was restless as he stared out his window while smoking a cigarette. It was Christmas Eve and he had nothing to do. Oh sure, he could go out for a night of clubbing seeing that Christmas was not an official holiday here in Japan and the clubs would be open. But oddly enough he had no desire to go out searching for a warm body.

The reason for his sudden apathy in picking up a one night stand was probably brooding in his room right at this moment. Aya… the person taking up all his waking thoughts as well as most of his dreams too.

Yohji didn't know how it happened, but he was completely preoccupied with his beautiful teammate. If he were to be honest with himself, he would admit to the possibility that he might even be in love with the ice prince extraordinaire.

He had been avoiding Aya whenever possible. The past several weeks had been pure hell whenever they shared a shift. He would watch Aya unknowingly until the man caught his eyes. Yohji would then quickly become engrossed in something else so Aya wouldn't know he was being drooled over. The scorn in Aya's eyes, should he ever become aware of Yohji's thoughts, would be too much for even him to laugh off.

Turning away from his window to put out his cigarette he realized there was something on his floor by the door.

In their respective rooms the two men read the notes left under their doors. Each note was written by a familiar hand and had both of them giving into a feeling of hope they couldn't quite suppress.

Reaching the living room just as the clock was turning midnight, he suddenly was pulled into a tight embrace under the mistletoe. Aya tilted his head up to look deep into Yohji's eyes searching for the truth. Finding the answer he was looking for, he then closed his eyes in order to focus on the lips that took possession of his. Wrapping his arms around Yohji's neck he felt a hand bury itself in his hair as he returned the kiss with a passion. He had just received the Christmas present he thought he would never have. From the way he was being kissed, it seemed Yohji felt the same.

Watching the men from the shadows of the staircase, Omi jumped when a hand covered his mouth. Turning to look at Ken, he nodded his head in understanding when Ken pointed to his room. Sneaking one last glance at the couple entwined under the mistletoe, he turned to follow Ken into his room.

With a sinking feeling, Omi recognized the two notes Ken had in his hand. He knew what they said without reading them.

“When did you get so good at forging Aya and Yohji's writing and signature?” Ken asked a guilty looking Omi.

Giving Ken the big eyes, Omi answered, “I've been practicing for a few weeks.”

“But sending them notes thinking it was from the other?! Wait until they figure it out. Did you stop to think how mad they are both going to be?” Ken practically yelled, but remembered said men in time as it turned into a heated whisper.

“I don't think they're going to be too mad. Not when it finally got them both what they wanted.” Omi said with a grin before it turned into a pout. “Besides, I just couldn't stand how miserable the two of them were anymore. Not when there was something I could do about it.”

Ken's temper, unable to withstand Omi's arsenal for long, dissipated as he sighed, “Yeah, you just wanted to have some leverage to use when they finally figured out about us, didn't you?” As he pulled Omi into his arms Ken murmured against pouty lips, “Since the mistletoe is unavailable, we are just going to have to improvise, aren't we?”

Much to Omi's delight Ken then proceeded to improvise while the rest of their team were too occupied with each other to wonder about the noises coming from upstairs.

All in all it turned out to be a Very Merry Christmas for the Weiss boys that year.
