He'd known that blood bound telepaths together stronger than anything else. Of course, until that night, he'd had no idea just how strong that bond was. The sudden wave of nausea and despair he'd felt had been there, as if he'd been the one to see the body instead of Orchidae. And, just as if he'd been right there with her, he could see her; her lovely dark hair strewn about, darkened further with blood. Her beautiful deep blue eyes wide open and glazed over in death. And her throat, slashed brutally open as if someone had meant to make her into a Pez dispenser.
He'd deny it if you asked him later, but for the time being he'd admit it to himself, and to the young woman to come across her mother's body. He threw up upon the very sight, if only projected, of the woman's body.
Of course, it hadn't taken long after that for him to get on a plane back to Tokyo where his daughter was, and he met up with her at the airport, in a darkened corner for them to share their grief and tears. She'd lost her mother, and he the only woman he'd ever loved. Sure, he'd bedded many, but he knew that she was the only woman that he could ever have loved.
And therefore, after just a few years together, he'd left her with a child that no one but them and very few they trusted even knew existed. Orchidae. He hadn't wanted to risk it being found out that he was involved with her, for her own safety and the safety of their daughter. That's not to say he never saw them; disguised with both telepathy and the magic of hair dye and contacts, he'd spent a fair bit of time together with the both of them, and he'd supported them as best he could; but to stay with them to risk their being in danger? Never.
Now, with her mother gone, he'd gone to his daughter and stood by her side, watching on while she started arranging for the funeral. A quick call was all it took for him to assure that the two of them would get their revenge on the bastard that did this, and to assure that they wouldn't have to do this alone. And just two days later, he stood there by her side even at the funeral, watching her body as it was lowered into the ground. With his hair temporarily dyed black and up under his hand, and the telepathic suggestion to everyone around them that it was cut short instead of just hidden, he went and laid down two flowers on the gravestone, which read;
Aya Fujimiya;
Beloved sister, and a friend to all.
May you rest in peace.
"Vater." Orchidae, at his side, tugged on his sleeve as they walked away from the grave, looking up at him with teary eyes, "Sie lassen mich nicht wieder?" The man now going by the name of Derrick Valke Fuchs shook his head, kissing her brow affectionately.
"Nein." He rested his forehead against hers, his bright jade eyes boring into her own turned blue by contact lenses, his telepathic voice resonating in her mind as they walked away from the cemetery together, 'Never.'
--------------------
"Nagi," Omi nodded to the man as he walked towards him, Ken and Ran at either side, the former sticking close enough to almost touch with every step, "Have you got any new information for me yet?" The slightly younger man smiled faintly and nodded, handing over a thin file. Though his smile looked sincere, there was a worried look in his eyes as he thought about the phone call he'd had to make previous to meeting up with his boss once more.
Nagi Naoe still looked as though he were in his mid-twenties, almost seeming to not age even though everyone new that wasn't the truth. He would just always retain his youthful innocence. In looks, at least. His hair had grown to his shoulders and was constantly in his face, no matter how often he brushed it behind his ears, and it had darkened in the last decade of his life, into a brown-black. His eyes had still remained the same piercing blue as he looked toward his employer and former enemies.
"We still are unsure of who is responsible for the attack on Aya Fujimiya," With this he nodded in respect to the elder Fujimiya, whose lips pursed in both agitation and sadness at the memory of the funeral the day before, "We do know, however, who their next target is. Her name is Orchidae Rosarius Fuchs. She's half-Japanese, but otherwise we know very little about her. Just that she has a habit of changing her appearance all too well for us to be able to tell what she really does look like. Schuldig has already mentioned that he knows the girl, he just hasn't mentioned how exactly; only that it would help us to find her."
Everyone's eyebrows went up at this statement, wondering how the man knew her, or why he was willing to help them. Sure, they weren't direct enemies any longer, but they didn't know his connection to this at all. "Why they are after her, we're not sure. We don't even know why they killed Aya, unfortunately. Fuchs has been attacked before, and the man that attacked her, though he got away, left fingerprints behind. It was the same man that killed Aya. Fuchs was fingerprinted as well, and her fingerprints were found to be inside Aya's house, all throughout it, as if she were a welcome guest and not an intruder."
As they digested the information, Omi flipped through the file in his hands, then murmured after a moment, looking up at them, "If we can find out where she is and keep an eye on her, we'll find out who attacked her, then catch and eliminate the men that did the same to Aya's sister." He looked up at the red-head, who nodded his consent to the plan, only for the four of them to be interrupted by an all-too-familiar nasal voice, accompanied by a shock of vibrant orange hair, tied back into a ponytail, and bright green eyes.
"Yes, but that does require finding the girl, does it not? And aren't you all glad that I'm here for you now?" Schuldig smirked at the four men and strode over to them, standing in front of the former Weiß members before performing a bow that was more sarcastic flourish than anything respectable, causing one pair of eyes to roll, two to narrow into varying versions of angry glares, and one set of eyebrows to raise in amusement.
Omi nodded his head toward his office down the hall, and the five headed there in silence, conversation only sparking again once they were settled inside and the door firmly closed. Schuldig sat there, watching three of his four companions, and waited for the questions to begin. After all, one does not seek out ones former enemies to aid them almost a decade after the fact without good reason.
"Why are you helping us, Schuldig?"
"How do you know this girl?"
"What's your connection to this, Mastermind?" Schuldig growled softly at the mention of his former code name and narrowed his eyes at Ran, obviously more than a little displeased by that.
"Please, I haven't been Mastermind since shortly after you all dealt with the Koua Academy. And I can only answer one of your questions; the others, well.. you'll just have to learn to trust me for now, won't you?" He smirked up at the former Weiß, then settled a little more in his chair, his mind already working through how he was going to get out of this one, lying enough to keep his own ass safe, but sticking as close to the truth as he dared. "I knew her father, Derrick; he and I went to Rosenkruz together as telepaths. I knew he'd settled in here and had a daughter, and I met her a few times.
"What your file says about her changing her appearance is absolutely correct. She stands out too much, and her father didn't want her to draw too much attention to herself since he knew that people were still looking for former Rosenkruz agents, and he didn't want to risk them finding out about his family. So he'd dye her hair, and she's been wearing contacts since she was old enough to learn how to put them in really. She was also home-schooled, and has a higher-than-average intelligence for an eighteen-year-old."
He sighed a bit after a moments pause and just looked at them, "What I myself don't know, though, is whether they right now are after her, her father, or her uncle that doesn't know she exists. I'm hoping to find out just that when we catch the people after her." He looked at the three men of Weiß briefly, then turned his attention to Nagi, his eyes suddenly looking pleading for just a moment before his cocky grin returned to his face. "So, what are we going to do about this now, hmm?"
--------------------
"Are you sure she's going to show up here, Schuldig?" Ken's voice muttered as he, Ran and Schuldig walked through the back entrance of a club, Schuldig's telepathy making sure nobody saw them or asked any questions, considering exactly where they were going just then..
The club catered mostly to just younger kids looking to relax and have a couple drinks for the night, not too much in the way of loud music, but there was an area for dancing in one part, and an upstairs for lounging. The three of them got settled in a corner away from the dance floor, with a view of the stairs and the bar to be sure they'd catch her wherever she ended up. A quick little twist of the waitress' mind got three drinks placed in front of them before she scurried back to her job, and he waited patiently for Orchidae to come into the club.
"Oh, I'm sure she'll be here. Remember, I know the girl. Every Thursday night she comes here; she doesn't work or have school on Fridays and she likes to relax." Ran opened his mouth to say something, but Schuldig's raised hand stopped him short, and both Ken and Ran followed Schuldig's gaze towards the door, where a couple walked in followed by a lone teenager.
She certainly didn't look to be eighteen, looking closer to fifteen or sixteen. Her hair was, currently, down to her waist in waves and dyed a dark blue, which looked nearly black in the lights of the club. Her supposedly black eyes flitted around the club as she walked in and headed to the bar, buying herself a drink and heading up the stairs to settle down up there for now. She sat down near the railing, giving the three men a clear view of her as she set down her bag and sat there, her jacket resting on her lap.
She was wearing a pair of low rise faded jeans, which were tight enough around her ass to be provocative, but were quite baggy around her legs. Her shirt was a tight tank top, and plain black, exposing her stomach from her jeans to just above her pierced belly button, and she was wearing a long chain around her neck, whatever was on the end of it hanging underneath her shirt. Her boots were large, black and chunky, going to her mid-calf and looking similar to combat boots even.
"That's her. She's grown up since I last saw her. Or maybe it's just the clothes.. She doesn't look quite so innocent like that." He chuckled a little bit as he watched the people around her, blinking when a man went straight up to her and sat there, starting to chat with her almost animatedly. She was slow to respond, but was soon laughing and talking with the man just as eagerly it seemed.
After a couple minutes, she got up to get drinks for the two of them, and Schuldig frowned and nearly growled. "The man she's with is one of the men that's responsible for this mess. They were waiting for her like we were; he's planning on drugging her somehow and essentially kidnapping her. I still don't know why; he's just here to do the dirty work and follow orders." Ken and Ran stood up and only Schuldig's hands on their arms kept them from storming over there. "He'll drug her, she'll be taken out back, and we'll follow them as they cart her off if they get that far. I doubt they will; drugs don't tend to affect her at all, even Rohypnol."
The two men blinked and nodded after a moment's hesitation, but didn't sit down. Able to read their minds, Schuldig sighed softly and shook his head a bit, "Alright, fine. You two head out back; there will be a van waiting for them. If they do get her into the van and take off, at least get the license plate and try to follow them. If they don't, at least you'll be ready for them when they get out there. I'm staying here to keep an eye on things until he carts her off."
The younger men nodded and went about doing just that, the telepath keeping them still from being noticed by anyone. Once the men were outside, the elder of the three settled in at his table seriously to watch as Orchidae and the man chatted and drank, waiting for the man to make his move finally.
--------------------
After nearly an hour of standing in the dark alleyway behind the club and watching an unmarked van, license plate already memorized, the familiar nasal tone of their companion made itself known in their heads.
'He just drugged her. She's not out, but she's not exactly of any frame of mind to stop him from grabbing her. He must have drugged her more than I'd thought; she's normally better off than this with drugs in her system.'
The two nodded to one another and waited patiently for the door to open, the man walking out and half dragging Orchidae, who was struggling as best she could before he suddenly punched her in the stomach, making her slump over as she lost her breath. Schuldig followed them out after a moment, looking at the van they were shoving her into with a grim expression.
'We'll have to wait until they drive off and follow behind them. These are just regular goons; they have no idea how to check for someone trailing them.'
As the two younger men nodded, the van drove off quickly, and they hurried into Schuldig's new car; when they'd first seen it as they drove to the club, they'd been more than a little shocked at the fact that it was nothing flashy at all and was, in fact, quite a plain, average-looking car, dark blue with darkly tinted windows. Schuldig quickly drove after the van with the young woman they were supposed to watch for, breaking more than a few traffic laws in the meantime, but staying discreetly behind the van.
It took almost a half hour before they finally got to the complex that the van drove into, and the three men backtracked, parking the car a few blocks away and walking as close to the guarded complex as they dared to.
“Ken, call Nagi. Tell them where we are and find out what the hell this place is.” With a quick nod, the brunette did just that, pulling out his cellphone while glaring out towards the complex, wondering what it was as much as the other two were.
/Ken./ Nagi's voice was soft but commanding even through the phone like that.
“Yeah, Nagi, we're at the building that they brought the girl to. It's on the corner of Fifth and Twenty-second. Some compound, could you find out what it is exactly?” Hearing an affirmative grunt on the other end of the phone, he waited patiently for Nagi to pull up the records on the computer that was always in front of the younger man.
/Supposedly abandoned due to structure flaws. It's supposed to be unstable, but I highly doubt it. The contractor that built it was highly skilled and qualified, and there haven't been any incidents reported there to make it uninhabitable./ Ken nodded a little, murmuring his thanks before hanging up the phone and relaying the information to his companions.
“Alright. There are a few guards walking perimeter. Shall we?” Schuldig motioned towards the men that were walking a fair bit away, obviously guarding the area around the complex. A couple of nods were all it took before they quickly took out the guards, changing into their uniforms and making their discreet entrance.
Okay, so there's the second chapter ready for you guys. Hope you enjoyed it, and reviews are greatly appreciated. A special thanks to WildHeartz for her review to the teaser to this fic. That review alone helped to inspire me to continue on with this as quickly as possible, though I hope it's not too rushed. Once again, my thanks to you WildHeartz, and to anyone else that leaves a review.
