Chapter 43

The Fight for Yohji

He smiled as Legolas set a pitcher on the counter, knowing that it turned brittle as he saw Aya come in. He forced his attention back to the other three, letting professionalism carry him through the awkward moment.

:::::::::: "Here, when the boy wakes up, give him a cup of this to help him regain his strength."::::::::::

"Thank you, again. I know he'll appreciate it… we appreciate it. I'll make sure that he gets it as soon as he wakes up. I'm sure that he'll be up by the time school is out this afternoon." He put the clipboard back under the counter top and reached out for the container feeling the telltale warmth. He'd make sure to reheat it for the small telekinetic, wondering if the microwave would destroy any of the medicinal value. He started to ask when the blonde elf started speaking to his friends.

"One sec." Jou looked at the roses in the cooler. "I would like some for my garden." Jou pulled a card out of his pocket and put it on the counter. "I work at the Saiyan's Tail. Just tell JP ya looking for Jounouchi. I'll let ya know what I'm looking for. Tiyamen, would you like to see what I got in my garden?" He smiled as he turned to his friend.

Yohji picked up the card and put it in his pocket after making sure it had the other blonde's name on it. "Okay, just let us know what you want and we'll get it for you."

"Of course, after we get my necklace sold and some clothing, then pick up the plant, we can go to the apartment and you can show me. Oh, unless you have afternoon classes." Tiyamen said as he smiled at Jounouchi.

"Sounds good. It's a small garden. I and a few other people use this lot to grow plants." Jou looked at the red headed stranger that came into the shop. "I hope to hear from you soon. I want to ask you about some special roses." Jou said as he waved to the boy behind the counter.

Yohji nodded at the blonde in answer and smiled at the elf and the smaller blonde. "Thanks again for stopping in. I'll make sure that he gets the tea." He watched them leave then turned his eyes on the tall redhead leaning against the counter.

Tiyamen nodded to the group, sensing some tension and figured it was best they vacated for now and followed Jounouchi and Legolas out of the shop. "Yes...let's go now."

"Why did you come back? I thought you were done with us, with Weiss?"

Omi opened his eyes and smiled at his younger lover as the other boy began to waken also. Nagi blushed and Omi chuckled hugging the slender body close to him. He had taken Enzu's advice and taken the time to make his lover happy even if only in the world of dreams and he had been successful if he did say so himself.

He looked over Nagi's head and groaned seeing how late it was. "I have to get up," he murmured apologetically to the smaller boy. "Yohji and Ken are probably going to kill me I slept through my shift."

"I'm sorry koi, it's my…."

"It's not your fault," Omi cut in tilting the narrow face to look at him. "I was only kidding. If I know them they let me sleep on purpose so I could be here with you. You are more important to me than the shop and Yohji knows that."

Nagi shook his head he still had trouble believing it when Omi said things like that. He wasn't used to being important to anyone except as a tool to be used and certainly not for himself alone. He didn't know how to respond to the words or the emotion behind them that he knew was there. So he did the only thing he could think of. He kissed the blonde gently then buried his face in the crook of his lover's neck to hide confusion he felt.

Omi knew that his lover was flustered. They'd been together long enough that he'd learned some of his signs. This was the one that he saw most often, a frightened confusion when his lover didn't know what to do or say.

"Come on itoshii, let's go change clothes and go down and see if Yohji and Ken need help in the shop," he said quietly drawing the other boy up into a sitting position with him. He felt the slight nod against his shoulder and rubbed a hand over the thin back soothingly.

"I should take a shower," Nagi informed him as they left Yohji's apartment and headed next door to Omi's. He blushed bright red at Omi's knowing chuckle and used a tiny amount of power to make the door swing back smack the older boy in the back gently before returning to it's original destination and closing. He snickered as Omi yelped. "That will teach you to laugh at a Tk," he stated smugly over his shoulder as he headed for the bathroom.

Omi glared for all of two seconds then grinned hugely glad to see his lover happy. It was too rare to ever ignore or get upset over, even if it was at his own expense. Still smiling he went to the closet to find fresh clothes for the both of them.

*********

Omi pushed open the back door to the shop and stepped through with Nagi right on his heels. He was prepared for Yohji's teasingly grumpy face or Ken's smirk and raised eyebrows. But he wasn't prepared for the site that met his eyes as he came to dead stop just inside the door reaching back to pull his boyfriend close against his back, one arm looped backward around his waist protectively.

"Aya."

Aya frowned at Yohji's question. "Is it illegal for me to come back? I wasn't gone that long and even if Weiss is finished, there's still this shop and you all. That's no way to greet someone, Yohji." When the door opened in the back, his eyes shifted to view the youngest member of their group. "Omi. Who's that behind you?" From the way he saw Omi's arm back around another person, he figured the boy had finally found someone.

Omi stood in the doorway shocked, like Yohji he really hadn't expected the swordsman to return. He heard the question from the tall redhead and stepped back further into the doorway. "My boyfriend, he lives here now with us." He turned his head to talk to Nagi. "Go upstairs to my apartment itoshii, stay there until I come up."

"Omi, I…."

"Please, just for now until I know what is happening, okay?" he asked rubbing his arm over the other boy's back reassuringly. He felt Nagi nod and then the other boy stepped away from him and he heard him going up the stairs behind him. The youngest member of Weiss looked back to hear Aya questioning Yohji and from the pale, pinched look of the older blonde he was almost at his breaking point.

Yohji stared at his ex-lover for long minutes unable to speak, his whole body shaking with anger. "Not long?" he whispered questioningly as if not sure he'd heard right or not. Then the hurt and anger he'd tried so hard to put behind him broke through and his eyes flashed as his voice rose in pitch. "Not long! Aya you've been gone for three months. I woke up two days after we took down Takatori and you were gone! No explanation, no note, no nothing. How did you expect me to greet you? With open arms?"

Aya's frown grew even more as that thought worked its way into his mind and he faced Yohji again. "You found someone else, is that why you're so hostile now?"

Yohji choked on a harsh laugh as he turned disbelieving jade eyes on the frowning face of his ex-lover. His shoulders shook as he leaned on the counter staring at the register. Finally he looked up, his eyes dry and tired. "Yes, Aya, after three months of waiting for you I found someone else." Turning he walked away from the counter. He looked down at Omi as he passed him, his eyes filled with pain and apology and the tears he refused to show the redhead.

Omi rubbed his arm and gave him a small push through the door before closing it firmly and turning back to Aya. "Have you come back to stay or is this just a visit Aya?"

Aya watched Omi close the door behind Yohji, anger shining in his eyes as he towered over the smaller assassin. "I plan to stay."

Omi nodded. "Your apartment is still empty. Since we were still working for Kritiker we didn't want to bring in any innocents that could get hurt." The small blonde looked up at the man who'd been their team leader. "You hurt him and left us to pick up the pieces. Don't do it again."

"I don't intend to. Why did he run? What is he up to now?" Aya reached past him to grasp the door handle.

Omi stared at Aya in disbelief grabbing the older man's arm. "What the hell do you mean why did he run? Aren't you listening Aya? Haven't you heard anything he said? Three months with no word that isn't a little while and now you walk back and expect him to just pick up where you left off?"

"Of course. He of all people should know better than to keep clinging to little painful parts of the past. It was three months. I was upset and had to get away...I just didn't know he would find someone already. Move Omi, I need to talk to him." Aya turned a little, pulling his arm free of Omi's grasp.

"You could have left him a note," Omi hissed as he stepped aside. "The end of Reiji Takatori didn't ease the pain for any of us. But we didn't run off and leave the people we loved without a word." He shook his head unable to believe the other man couldn't understand what he'd done, but he had done what he could. Yohji and Aya would have to fight it out in the end.

"Omi, you talk too much." Aya gave him a little shove and sent the smaller assassin stumbling back into an oversized flowerpot before opening the back door and heading towards Yohji's apartment.

Omi growled in anger at the other man's rudeness and started to follow. But the bell over the door rang and he clenched his fists standing up to greet the customer who had entered.

Aya went right up to the apartment he knew Yohji called his own, easily following the smell of tobacco. When he got there he decided to show some restraint and actually knock instead of kicking it down.

*********

Yohji climbed the ladder to the roof his first cigarette in two days hanging from his lips and the pack from his bathroom shoved into the pocket of his apron. He knew that Aya would find him but he didn't want to face the redhead in his apartment. His head came over the top and he gasped as he saw his lover lying still and silent on roof.

He leapt up the last few steps and ran across to fall on his knees beside the dark angel. He saw the dried blood along his neck and chest and fear gripped him. He pulled him into his arms calling his name as overwrought tears finally fell.

Aya was ready to beat the door down anyway when he heard movement from the stairs leading to the roof and followed, emerging out into the sunshine. "What in the world...are you killing this early already?"

Yohji looked up and glared at Aya. "Go away Aya and leave me alone. It should be very easy for you. You just had three months practice at it." He turned his eyes back to his angel, brushing his lips over the other man's wondering how long he had been here and they hadn't known.

Enzeru could feel the warmth on his face and wondered with mild amusement if it was from the fires of hell, though he knew better. His lips curled in a weak smile at the thought. He peeked his eyes open as he heard his name called out and saw nothing but fuzzy blue before him. His eyes focused slowly and he turned his head towards the voice. Jade was the first thing he saw. The beautiful jade of his lover's eyes.

"Yohji?"

Aya frowned darkly and moved over to look at the vampire. "Who the hell is this, Yohji?"

"This is my lover," Yohji answered not looking up at the other man his eyes completely focused on the angel in arms. "Yes, I'm here lover. What happened? How long have you been up here? Can you stand up?" Yohji murmured trying to help him sit up higher.

Aya did not look very happy at all to hear that and reached into his jacket and pulled out his sword. Only one way to deal with people that stole from him...

Enzeru groaned as Yohji tried to help him sit up. His senses were muddled, but he felt the other man and in his mind saw his anger. In an action of pure reflex, he jerked his head in the man's direction and sent him flying across the roof. Everything began to spin and he set his hand against his forehead as he leaned against Yohji.

"He is dangerous. Who is he?"

Yohji stared at his old lover in surprise and anger as he skidded across the rooftop. "That's Aya my last lover. He used to be the leader of Weiss until three months ago," he whispered bitterly, loosening the arm that bore his watch.

He knew that it would be close if he had to actually fight the redhead, but even Aya couldn't avoid his wire for long. "Aya since when did you start taking the lives of innocents?" He yelled across the roof at the other man wondering if he was even conscious.

Aya pulled himself upright and unsheathed his sword. "Since they take my lover away from me. We never broke up, and I don't intend to just let this freak take you away."

Enzeru sat up completely and placed his hands in front of his chest, looking like he was about to pray. He began to pull his scythe from his hand, the green light flickering and dimming as he growled weakly at the redhead.

"Call me what you will, but I will not allow you to hurt Yohji or the others."

"You're the one playing the Grim Reaper or whatever it is you're doing. Demon, get away from Yohji!" Aya advanced towards him.

Yohji stood up and stepped in front of his dark angel. "Stop it Aya, stop it! It's over, we're over. You left, I didn't even know if you were coming back, so I moved on. I was damned if I was going to spend two years mourning a lost lover again. And you are not going to make me mourn for another one."

"You moved on like a dog in heat, you mean. I should have known better than to think you'd stay loyal. Now you even block my path to this obstacle." Aya moved towards him, stopping a few feet away. "You're probably not even worth it really."

Enzeru began to stand and set the hand that wasn't holding the scythe on Yohji's shoulder, his black eyes trained on the redhead, growling as he did so. "How dare you speak to him in such a way." His scythe was all but gone now; just a faint glimmer of green light remained, but he stood next to Yohji anyhow, he could still feel the redhead's anger.

Yohji reached up and touched the hand on his shoulder, smiling sadly at his lover. Then he turned back to look at Aya. "No your right Aya, in your eyes I'm probably not worth it or you wouldn't have left me the way you did," Yohji said quietly. "All I needed was a note or a phone call to know you would be back. I guess mostly I'm lucky you didn't walk out and leave money on the dresser."

"I suppose three months is too long to ask you to wait for me. Whatever. Hopefully your freak boyfriend there doesn't give you some disease." He sheathed his sword and turned to leave the roof, pure anger radiating from his form.

Enzeru shook his head. "I don't understand you humans at all." The scythe disappeared completely and he fell back to his knees. "I need to rest, and feed, Yohji. He seems to be done for the moment." He put his hand over his face and shook his head again.

Yohji slipped down next to his lover wrapping his arms around his waist. "Sometimes I don't understand either, Enzu. Sometimes I don't either. Can you stand if you lean on me? I'll help you get downstairs."

Aya went back to his apartment, slamming the door shut and throwing the bolt lock on it. Let Yohji be someone else's toy, he had just proven he wasn't worth the effort or heartache. "Kisama."

Enzeru nodded, hoping he would be able to keep his strength long enough. He leaned onto his blonde lover and kissed his cheek as they walked to the ladder. "I am heavier than I look, ne?" He chuckled, trying to lighten the dark mood that had settled over them.
