False Realities
Chapter 9::Part 1::Of Delusions and Dates
By Johin
"There, all we need now is to put your things in and then you're all set." Yohji said as he pushed the last of the boxes into a cabinet. He stood up and swiped his hands on his shirt to remove the dust and smiled at the boy helping him.
"Sorry for intruding. I'll go get them now." Nagi said as he bowed down to the older man and headed for the door. He was stopped though as two people were blocking the way.
"No need! We've got them right here." An enthusiastic Ken said, holding a duffel bag and a book bag. Omi trailed behind him holding a box of supplies Schuldig had given the telekinetic. "Well just put these here and leave you to unpack."
"I'll help him." Omi volunteered as he set the box down by the corner together with the extra futon they had pulled out and a few bedroom necessities.
"Okay then Ommitchi, but dinner is on me so don't be late." Yohji said and winked at the wheat blonde boy. He then dragged the soccer player out of the room and closed the door.
"You've got weird superiors." Nagi said, shaking his head as he dusted himself off.
"Yours are weirder than mine, Naoe." Omi retorted sticking out his tongue in a childish defense. He opened the package he'd been carrying a while ago and said, "So shall we get started?"
"Let's," Nagi said in agreement. "Oh and, it's not MY fault Abyssinian has a stick up his ass."
"That was mean!" Omi said in futile defense for his leader, as he tried to control his laughter.
Fujimiya Ran was not a happy man. 'What does he think he's trying to pull off?' he was seated on the edge of his bead with no lighting at all. His hands were linked together providing support for his chin as they were propped up.
'First of all he's our enemy. Secondly he holds Omi hostage and tries to bury him alive or at least kill him. THEN he says it was all to make Este believe they were still 'on their side even though they aren't.' As if I should believe a word he says!'
He stood up moved towards his table and sat down on the chair facing the door and opened the lamp light. He began tapping his fingers on the hard wood after that, staring at the door as if threatening anyone who might come by. 'And to top it all off, Yohji and Ken, believe him.'
< --- >
"It'll be okay, Aya. This way we'll be able to erase the source of the problem and create allies. We'll be rid of Rozenkreuz and Este for good." Ken said once the three foreigners had left the premises.
"Yeah, it's all for the better, Aya. Besides they tipped me off, they wouldn't really have hurt Omi. That German said 'He's too important in this to die so early' " Yohji said as some sort of consolation to the redhead and a defense on his part.
"So you mean to say he's not in danger now but he will be, tomorrow or the day after that," Aya snapped at his two subordinates. "Is that what you mean, Balinese? Siberian?"
The two remained silent, not really sure on how to answer to the other man's speculations and how to appease the other's anger.
Omi then appeared from behind the kitchen doorframe having heard the conversation from the living room. "Aya-kun! It's my decision that made Ken-kun, and Yohji-kun agree. This is no different from other missions so don't get mad at them for my insolence as you may have said"
Aya stared at him long and hard but Omi refused to back down. "I never trusted, never will trust, them completely but if it'll save a lot of people then I'm willing to be the decoy."
He then looked at the three people under his command before moving out of the kitchen area to his room slamming the door in his wake.
< --- >
'This is so messed up.' Ran thought, as he pounded his head against his table, thinking it might clear up his thoughts and 'irrationality'. There was a knock on the door but it was drowned out by the constant and rhythmic meeting of Aya's forehead and the desk.
"Aya?"
Ran broke it off with his earlier attachment to the table and glared at the person who dared to intrude in his personal space.
"I was knocking and you weren't answering me. Also I heard this thump, thump sound from inside so I got worried." Ken said trying to explain himself to the redhead. "Dinner's ready so we thought you might want to come down. I'll leave you alone now."
The door was shut and Ran blinked. He wrinkled his brow for a minute and followed the shadow of the man who just left, calling after him.
"Ken! Wait, I said." Aya grunted, catching up to the other in the hallway, holding onto the boy's arm for an added emphasis.
"Yes, Abyssinian?"
Aya gawked, for lack of better word, at Ken's reaction and looked down ashamed. "I'm sorry."
"What? I didn't hear you."
Aya's head shot up at this, met with the other eye to eye and spoke louder this time. "I said, I didn't mean to glare at you for coming in my room. That was my fault."
"Oh, well that's all behind me now." Ken replied, still sounding very much annoyed. "Is there anything else? If there's none then could you please let go of me now?"
The redhead stayed still for a while, his grip on the other's arm not daring to slack off. He watched the athlete and assessed his actions up till now and asked, "Why do you think I should agree with his terms?"
"Do you have any other plan then?"
"Answer me! Don't play mind games with me, Hidaka."
"I am answering you, Ran!" Ken said exasperated at the other and tried shaking his arm loose as it was beginning to hurt, but to no avail. "We have no other choice. Omi's going to do it anyway, with or without our help and the same goes for Nagi. Schwarz is on a losing end too, you know?" he said making eye contact with the taller man making it clear that he fully believed that they would react as such. "If we help them there's a chance that we can pull this off!"
"Is that how you see this?" Aya asked in a more placid tone.
"Yes I do, sir."
"Fine, then that's how we'll do this." Aya released his hold on Ken abruptly and turned to head back for his room. He paused by the doorway and looked at the athlete one more time with that unreadable mask back on. "But this doesn't mean I'm happy about it."
"Dinner's ready. Just so you forgot." Ken said, unrelenting to the threat Aya's actions had posed to a lot of people - He wasn't part of that particular group. A wave and a grunt was all he got for a reply. There was a click and the redhead was locked up in his room again and the hall was silent save for the sound of footsteps coming up the stairs.
"Ken-kun? I heard Aya-kun shouting. Is something wrong?
Ken faced his best friend with a smile and shook his head. "Nothing it's just that he's really worried about you, you know?"
"Huh? But I'm perfectly fine!" Omi said in a huff, crossing his arms in front of his chest and after a moment of thought faced their leader's door. "I'm going to give him a piece of my mind."
"Yeah, well that's what I told him you'd do, as well." Ken grinned and moved for the dining area. "Come on Omi, the food's going to get cold."
"Eh? Wait for me Ken-kun!"
"Hey Tsu-ki-yo-no! Omi!" Nozomu whispered in a form of a call during first period of Wednesday. Normally the boy being addressed would just ignore this but apparently Nozomu didn't want to give up this time. Omi then shifted his attention from the board and to his friend, giving him a quizzical look, and mouthed a 'what?' in answer.
"I forgot my English notes could I borrow yours? Just for today, I promise." Nozomu pleaded in hushed tones, putting his hands together in a seemingly prayer form, as if to emphasize his desperation.
"Fine, but just for today." Omi said and with a languid smile as he rummaged through his bag hung to the side of his desk. "You really are something, aren't you, No-chan."
"Yamato Nozomu!" The teacher, old bald and in his late fifties, barked, glaring at his disrespectful student. "Recite the verse in English."
"I'm sorry, sir, but which would that be?" Yamato asked in the most innocent tone he could muster.
"The only one on the board, boy."
Nozomu squinted to see the kanji and furigana written on the board and spoke under his breath "Unmei no rival dare yori mo mitsumeteru kara..." (1)
"In English if you please, and louder, if you could." The teacher remarked not satisfied or pleased with how the boy has responded to the given task. Impatient old man that he is, he added, "Maybe you just DON'T know how to say it?"
"A- Always," The raven haired boy looked down in defeat, trying to remember how to conjugate the verb in English and how to say it right. He already had an idea, but his dictionary seemed to have run away with his speeding heart. "I don't...not know, Sir. I was just having trouble in choosing my words."
"Well then please go on."
"Always looking at our rival more than anyone else." Yamato said slowly but with confidence, and then the bell rang.
The teacher looked at the offending boy for a long time before gathering his books. "We'll continue transcribing, Yukiko-san's song tomorrow so please wait for your next teacher. Yamato-kun, you may sit down." He then went to his next class not bothering to wait for the appropriate greeting that should have been granted to him.
Once the English teacher had left Omi leaned to his left and tapped the boy questioned and began prying. "No-chan what happened?"
"I don't know, it was just...written in katakana on a piece of paper, saying 'read aloud'." He replied, closing his eyes and pinching the bridge of his nose in his moment of relief.
Nagi then offhandedly asked as he read through a book concerning the French revolution. "You're kidding, right?"
"No, I'm not, Naoe. Here, I'll show you." Nozomu said apathetically, as he shuffled through the papers on top of his desk. After a minute of searching through his books and papers, he delved into his bag.
"Well?" Omi asked interestedly. Not sure if he had made the right assumption in this case of what happened during English class, he wanted to confirm the theory he had in mind.
"It's...gone" Yamato said at a loss. "But I'm not lying! I tell you." Yamato looked at Nagi with a steel gaze which was just nodded of by the other. "Whatever. Oh and yeah, Omi thanks for the notebook I didn't need it after all. With class done and, you know."
"You're welcome, No-chan." Omi replied getting his notes back from his seatmate and filing them inside his book bag. "Just don't forget to bring yours tomorrow, okay?"
"Satou-sensei is here." Nagi reminded softly and not a minute later had they heard their president call them for the greeting.
"Stand and bow."
"Ah! I remember now! That was very mean Nagi-kun!" Omi exclaimed as the two of them stood in front of a door being lock-picked by his companion. It was the only way to the roof top and though it wasn't really off limits to people it was kept locked for the purpose of warding off people who cut class.
Nagi looked at him weirdly before making the final nudge for the door to open. He frowned, adjusted the plastic the lay dangling on his right arm, and put his concentration on the knob once again before asking, "What was?"
"You made No-chan feel bad and stupid." Omi said as he waited for Nagi to open the door. He readjusted the jug he had shouldered and picked up with both hands the two drinking glasses he had laid on the floor moments ago.
"Hey, I helped him out, didn't I?" The brunette said, finally opening the lock and heading for the shadier parts of the roof top, taking the lead. They rounded a corner and upon reaching a cool enough area, the sun blocked by a smaller building that held the stairway, Nagi sat down with his back to the wall and placed the plastic he was carrying in front of him. The plastic he had contained two obentos a thermos and two cups, which he all laid out in a neat manner for the both of them.
Omi sat down to Nagi's left and put his jug and two tall plastic cups down. He placed his cheek on his right palm, propping it up and poked the other's ribs with his left index finger. "That's not the point."
"Then what is?"
"You could have just stayed quiet about it you know..."
"True but then I can't let him off that easy. At least he didn't get caught by that shark of a teacher." Nagi replied coolly and then looked at the other boy in a grave manner. "Admit it, you're just too much of a goody-goody. You would've helped him and let him off the hook."
"I AM NOT, and I wouldn't have." Omi said snatching away his set of chopsticks that Nagi had so graciously offered. "It's just that, No-chan's that kind of guy. He hates being made fun of or left helpless. It's probably gnawing at his mind now..."
"Goody-goody." Nagi said getting his own set of chopsticks and an obento.
"Whatever, Naoe." Omi said and got an obento for himself. He opened the lunchbox and found some tempura and a lot of sashimi, coupled with rice. He smiled at the thought of having a full stomach, he then noticed Nagi pouring some liquid into one of the two cups. "What's that?"
"Soup. I owe you remember?"
"Hah! I finally get my date with Mr. Ice!"
"Will you stop calling it a date, it's just lunch, you know." Nagi said as he filled the second cup. Once done he screwed the cap, drank from his cup and stared impassively at the other.
"A date is a date plus, Shi-chan and No-chan are late." Omi replied in sing song, laughing merrily afterwards, which Nagi just chose to ignore by pushing through with his lunch. Omi didn't mind this and followed the example by eating a piece of sashimi, dipped in sauce. "These are good! When and where did you get them?"
"I made them this morning."
A third voice, feminine enough, squealed, alarming the two second years. "How sweet! ". A round of laughter later and they saw two familiar faces come out of their hiding place by the corner.
"Shi-chan! No-chan! Since when have you been hiding there?" Omi asked appalled that they may have heard the previous conversation concerning their first period English class, which would put both he and Nagi in a very tight spot.
Nozomu cleared his throat and began. "Soup. I owe you remember?"
Omi blushed in realization and ran after the boy. "Come back here, Yamato!"
Shiori whisked pass the two and tapped Nagi's shoulder. "May I sit here, Naoe-senpai?" she asked and sat down to his left, facing him, once having received a nod of affirmation. "Grandmama, says if you could visit her again she'd be really happy. She says she wants to give you something."
Nagi didn't give her an answer right away instead he tipped his head to the right in regard to the other's presence. The other two were far away and it was apparent that Shiori wanted to say something more but could not find the appropriate way on how to express it. After a minutes observation he leaned against the wall, picked up his cup of soup and drank.
Her lunch on her lap and finally able to get her resolve, Shiori started speaking again, a few seconds before Omi and Nozomu could come within hearing range. "Obaachan was really sad a few weeks ago, and I know this maybe asking too much, but could you please come over to my place at least once a week. She brightened up after she saw you and well, it would do her a lot of good."
"I'm not the person for that Suminoto."
"But-"
"What are you two talking about?" Omi asked suddenly, being the first to return from their trip around the roof. He walked in across the two and took up his former position to Nagi's right.
"Nothing."
"She wants me to come to their place once a week." Nagi said dispassionately and drank from his cup of soup again only to find it devoid of the liquid. He sighed and unscrewed the thermos cap to refill the cup of its contents.
Shiori just glared at him in reply. "There was a reason why I took the time to speak only to you."
"That would be?" Nagi asked raising an eyebrow. When no answer came he took a bite of his tempura and closed his eyes while chewing the piece of meat covered in batter.
"Hey now, don't fight, Catgirl!" Nozomu said tauntingly, finally arriving at their eating area. He patted the girl's highlighted hair and grinned. "Have you asked Nagikins if he was busy?" The results were as expected - Yamato received two sets of eyes glaring at him for an answer. One of which, was completely red from embarrassment at not realizing that she may have imposed too much on her senior.
"Sorry, Shi-chan. Nagi-kun and I have something to do, so it just won't do." Omi explained to their female friend and smiled weakly. He nudged Nagi with his elbow as if asking the Schwarz boy to say something. It was apparent though, that Nagi would be taking his time in doing so.
"He still didn't have to say it aloud." Shiori said in a hushed tone toying with her rice with her chopsticks. Nozomu then looked at his three friends and sat down in front of them, his arms supporting his bent knees, forming some sort of huddle. He frowned at the inability of anyone to speak other than the thin boy he sat across of and nearly jumped for joy when Nagi began to speak
"I needed Omi to re-affirm the following statement I had to say which was that I am busy for the next couple of days." Nagi said quietly, he looked at the girl then at Omi and nodded. "I never said I wouldn't try though. Sorry for your making you misunderstand."
"See Nyanko(2)? He says he'll try. Now stop trying to set a fire. I'll eat that if you won't." Nozomu said, winking at her as he reached over and ruffled her hair. That done he received quite a lot of half-hearted protests which he brushed off by laughing good-naturedly.
"Thirty more minutes till the end of lunch break. You two should start eating." Nagi said as he took another bite on the tempura, pointing out that fact to his two classmates who had been squabbling away half of their free time.
"Eh? So soon? And I thought I'd get to be lovey-dovey with you too!" Omi said indignantly latching on to Nagi's arm for emphasis on his so called intentions.
"Shut up Tsukiyono, and get off of me." Nagi griped and the three surrounding the brunette just laughed, forgetting the little mix-up from before.
The bell rang and soon enough all the students were in their respective classrooms. Only a few people walked along the hallways and fields. Those people mainly, teachers and sometimes even children came by as they went about their sensei's wishes. One of those few was the man tagged as the 'Doctor'.
Toru Ishida moved from room to room in the science hall, poking his head in for a split second inspection then leaving just as silent as he came in. He finally came to a room empty and devoid of human beings and locked the door. He drew the curtains to a close, got his cellular phone from his breast-pocket and dialed.
"Jei? I have him."
---To Be Continued---
A/N: Ah it's been so long. So sorry for the wait and as if my being bad is not enough this chapter is just one-fourth done XD. I'm tired and suddenly all my inspiration run away from me but I promise I'll have this done by the end of June. I'll put up my foot notes with the next installation.
Just for the record I'd like to thank everyone who has reviewed and criticized this story thus far (thanks neechan). I still don't have a beta but that's okay ;;.
Anyway for a consolation (or something like that) I have this chapter 9 gag scene. It's a tad bit green but hey everything in this world is XD. I hope you guys don't hate me for this.
He had just passed by the storage area made bedroom and had heard it all. Now he's in his room and having a certain affinity with his desk.
Suddenly, there was a knock on his door but Ran had not heard it, soon after there was a call. "Aya?"
"KEN!" He squealed. "Why the hell, did you tell Naoe that I gave you my ass last night?!"
I can't imagine Aya squealing but I hope that was funny enough for you guys. I find it funny but that maybe just because I'm corny. XD
I also have something for chapter 7 so if you guys are interested tell me so. I'll put it up for next time
R&R and C&C appreciated :)
