Chapter 5::Sunday Induced Emotions

by Johin

'He didn't think that I heard him in the flower shop. He didn't think that I could easily brush off that stupid agreement in the car. I didn't think so too. Why then? Why did I go and tell him that, and broke our newly formed friendship?' Nagi asked himself as he walked along the pedestrian. He had left his house as soon as he woke up, barely even having sleep because of the nightmares that had kept on haunting him. He kept on walking and sometimes even running along the road until he reached the shops area at around seven fifty in the morning. He went out and took the chance and time to think things over, to think that maybe what he had decided on doing was a mistake, to think back on whatever had happened between him and Omi, when he saw the nearest flower shop, not minding the shop's name or its familiarity, he was reminded of the events three days ago.

< ---------- >

"Do you really hate me?" Omi asked as he looked outside the car's window

"Yes."

"Why?"

"Do I really need to answer that?" I asked back irritated at the boy beside me. 'Why can't he just keep to himself?'

"Yes, you do, I at least want to know why someone like you would be mad at me besides it's not like you'll die or anything." Omi retorted as I continued on driving. We were going around Tokyo to get to his house, well, not really just taking a couple of detours, or else the police would catch us for driving without a license. I'm too young to have one.

I didn't really want to answer him so he remained silent for some time before he spoke again. "I see. You don't really know why, do you?" I looked at him to see if he was taking me seriously and when I saw him smiling at me I wanted to hit him but I restrained myself.

He spoke again after a while of silence. "Why don't we try being friends, and for once not fight. Our business with you is over. We really don't need to fight over anything."

"Not fight? Not fight?! What the hell do you mean!? My sister died because of you, I had to kill my family because of you, because they saw you and I! Because they had seen and lived the next day! I had to kill them because it was the rules! And you say I shouldn't be angry! That I should be JUST FINE!" I screamed at him while jamming on the breaks causing the car to go screeching.

"Am I really at fault?"

I had no answer for that, I knew it wasn't his fault but I needed to let loose of my anger, and I needed to do it then and there. 'I don't know why but we were fine before we got in the car, why'd he have to make a conversation anyway?' Then I realized that I was crying on the steering wheel with my head low when my cheeks felt wet and that my eyes were burning. Omi put his hand behind me and made rhythmic circles on my back, the same thing I did to him. It was really soothing and as if on impulse I cried on his shoulder. It was a good thing that we weren't obstructing traffic by the location I had picked out to stop, or else I'd be in trouble with Crawford. I cried harder every minute and I really didn't want him to see me in my moment of exposure but I couldn't do anything he was there but strangely enough, even though I wanted to hide my face from the world, I was happy I had someone to cry on, I had someone to listen to me, to comfort me.

When the drive to his house continued we were both silent, I concentrated on the road while he busied himself with his thoughts. We arrived a bit later than expected at his apartment building because of our little argument but before he went out he told me this: "Nagi-kun, let's be friends, okay? No more fighting, I can't face you again like I did before. I might breakdown the next time to. Please, let's just try it, okay?"

I didn't say anything for a while then I nodded my answer to him. We got out of the car and he gave me that Morning Glory, I don't know why he gave it to me, even though he explained it I don't believe him, but I took it anyway. I just couldn't believe it, the fact that he told me that we were friends. We who were arch nemesis were now what that old lady described friends.

"Hello, we're going to open the shop soon so I think if you could wait a bit more, unless you're here to visit Omi that is, Naoe." A voice said from behind Nagi when he was off-guard.

Nagi branded that voice as Balinese' and put his arms up in an attempt to ward the elder man off, when he realized that the other was neither going too attack him nor capture him he put his defenses down. He took few steps back making him an arms length away from the lanky blond before speaking. "I wasn't really going to pass by."

Balinese chuckled before he said, "Well, you're here, now. Why not drop in?" and he proceeded to usher the younger boy inside Koneko. "So where are your other team mates, you seem alone the past days that I've seen you." He asked as soon as they were inside and he was already watering the flowers, spraying them with water and sometimes wiping off the water on the leaves.

"How could you've deduced that when you've only seen me for one night and this morning?" Nagi inquired before answering, he was curious about this man, Kudou Yohji codename Balinese, who was so like Schuldig yet somewhat different. He just stood of to one corner of the room as he watched the other man work his way around.

"Well, I don't think they would've liked you going around the block like that, alone I mean, and very early. Plus it was pretty late when you went home yesterday, I think, you would have gotten a yelling from Mr. I'm-better-than-you-cause-I- know-the-future because of that. I was a detective before, you know, it's something I don't miss, besides with the line of work we're given I don't think Aya or Ken would miss it either." Yohji said as he wound his way from the front to the back of the shop and back again. Nagi refrained from laughing at hearing Crawford's nickname but he chose not to answer the question nonetheless making Yohji conclude that he was alone in his house but Yohji remained silent all the same.

When Yohji heard the slight grumble of the younger boy's stomach he began to laugh and Nagi turned pink. Nagi had forgotten to eat breakfast because of his oncoming rush of thoughts and had just left the house. Because of Yohji's hollering he had caught the attention of the other two Weiss, Abyssinian and the one named Ken Hidaka.

"What are you laughing about, Yohji? You'll disturb Omi." Ken said disappointed by his friend's insensitivity to Omi's condition. Aya came up behind Ken and put a hand on his shoulder to catch his attention before pointing out that there was another person in the room.

"Nagi! Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't see you. Did you come to visit Omi?" Ken asked completely surprised by Nagi's appearance today. Yohji was still laughing at Nagi and he was still a bit pink from embarrassment when Ken and Aya had spotted him, which made both of them wonder exactly as to what had happened.

"I wasn't supposed to, but you see Balinese, here, made me go inside." Nagi replied without really looking at the lanky blond he had just mentioned and ignored chortling sounds Yohji was making.

"Yup, but the thing is, he hasn't eaten yet. Kenken, why don't you go and act like you usual self, being a Mother Hen, and serve the boy something." Yohji said and then proceeded to laugh his head off. He didn't know why he found the situation so funny but he just did, apparently Ken didn't and he also disliked the fact that Yohji called him a Mother Hen.

"I am NOT a Mother Hen!" cried Ken, he turned about face and went back in the apartment part of the shop while calling for Nagi. "Come on, Nagi. I'll give you something to eat. Don't mind Yohji, he's just being the clown that he is because he didn't get enough sleep today!" this said also making an effect on the playboy and Ken disappeared into the kitchen.

"I am not a clown!"

"Yohji, just leave it." Aya said when he had heard enough of the bickering going on in the shop. He gestured for Nagi to follow him in and followed through the same steps Ken took, with Nagi close behind him.

They found Ken setting the table for three all the while fuming about Yohji's little jokes and beside him was also a tray that held food enough for two people. When Ken finally acknowledged Nagi and Aya's presence in the kitchen offered them seats which they gladly accepted and turned back to face the stove.

When the food was set on the table Ken looked at Nagi apologetically and asked him a favor. "Nagi, could you bring that tray upstairs. I also prepared a plate for you so you can eat with Omi. You don't have to do it if you don't want to but you would be a great help if you did." Nagi couldn't say no to the brunette so he stood up and did as told without saying a word to them.

Upon Nagi's exit, Aya asked the soccer player. "Why'd you make him do that? You do know that he could endanger Omi in ways more than one."

"You know I trust him besides it'd be good for both of them. Before one succeeds one must learn to fall, I think it is time that they learned it. It was you who said he'd be Omi's..." Ken replied, leaving it hanging purposefully as he sat down on one of the empty chairs across of Aya and smiled at the redhead.

Luckily enough for Aya, Yohji chose to come in on that specific time and apparently he had seen that little smile on the soccer player and that scowl on the redhead, but that wasn't the point, since Ken wouldn't be able to say anything with Yohji there, Aya began eating and the rest followed suit. Aya didn't know why but he knew that he dreaded whatever Ken had planned on saying before Yohji had come in but now he could relax, all he had to worry about now was Omi.

---

Nagi came in Omi's room without knocking, because of the fact that his hands were a bit preoccupied with the weight of what he was carrying and because the door was already open, and he found the other boy staring of into space. He cleared his throat before he went inside the other's room any further. Omi snapped out from his bemusement and greeted his visitor with a smile that seemed to falter when he realized who that visitor was.

"Oh, Naoe-san, how...nice of you to visit..." Omi said as he watched the other move around to get to him, he had put all his defenses up when he saw the other boy by his door.

Nagi winced when Omi did this but it couldn't be helped so he came in without saying anything else, also avoiding the other's eyes. Upon reaching the bed, he put down the tray, pulled out a chair and sat down beside the sick boy and said, "This is what you get for not listening to me nor Hidaka-san."

Omi stayed silent at that comment, he didn't want to fight with Nagi right now nor did he want to talk to him but it couldn't be helped, 'He's here, no getting out of it. Might as well.' He looked at the tray brought by Nagi and looked back at the holder with a questioning look.

"I brought you your food, and I'm going to eat with you to make sure you finish everything up." Nagi said making his objectives clear and known to the wheat-blonde boy as he worked mechanically on his task. He then gave Omi the bowl of soup and set everything aside for later. "Drink this up first." Nagi said then began eating his own meal but when he noticed the other boy having a bit of trouble with feeding himself he sighed and said, "Here, let me help you." He took both the bowl and spoon from Omi's hands and began feeding him, at first Omi protested but when he saw that Nagi wouldn't stop feeding him and that he wouldn't believe that he could do it himself, he let himself be fed by the slender boy.

When Omi was done eating, or rather being fed, he smiled and gave his thanks to the other boy. Nagi just nodded and began fixing up the tray with both their plates without even finishing his own food, Omi noticed this and protested. "Aren't you going to eat?"

"I ate at home" was Nagi's short reply as he continued on cleaning up not letting himself be hindered by Omi.

"I don't believe you. You looked starved just a minute a go." Omi stated blatantly and as if on cue Nagi's stomach grumbled in complain because of its lack of nutrition and Omi giggled. "See? Your stomach is agreeing with me."

"But I'm not hungry anymore." Nagi said, trying not to mind the fact that his stomach was growling even though he felt nothing as of late.

"Ah, but your stomach says differently. Why not stay and eat here? I'd like the company." Omi said as if what had transpired yesterday was of their imagination and was untrue. He smiled at the pale boy making the said boy sit down and follow his orders.

While Nagi had been eating Omi had busied himself with other things, like humming a tune of a happy song or other whatnot and at times he would stay in relative quiet with the Schwarz boy. Though there was no conversation ensuing Omi enjoyed the presence of another person in the room.

When Nagi finished eating he cleaned up and excused himself from Omi's presence. Omi also bid farewell and told him to come back soon. Nagi gave him a surprise by coming back too soon. He had stopped by the doorway and placed the tray on top of the nearest table available.

Nagi went up to Omi again and hugged him with Nagi kneeling on the bed as he sat. It was then that Omi realized that Nagi was indeed saying something although silently and that he had been crying, these being his words, "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. I didn't want to hurt you. I'm just not used to this thing you call friends but you never did anything wrong, I shouldn't have blamed you. I should have trusted you."

Omi was shocked and couldn't move at this point and Nagi was saying a lot of unneeded words of apology, he had already forgiven him the minute he spoke to him without contempt or pity but with concern and care, he wanted to tell him that 'everything's alright and you need not cry, you need not cry over me' but as soon as he heard the words 'thank you to for being my friend' he had also begun to cry, and by that act he spoke more than he would have been able to say, and they stayed like that for a long time.

---

The shop had already opened for a good one hour and Nagi was yet to come down from Omi's room and this worried Aya, though he would hate to admit it aloud to anyone. "I'm going to check on Omi."

"You don't need to." Nagi said from the backdoor, it was very noticeable that his eyes were puffy and red which was something that immediately hinted the three of Weiss of what happened upstairs, and everyone knew it was best to keep their thoughts to themselves for the time being and so no one spoke.

"Omi asked me to ask the three of you if he could come down here. He promised that he wouldn't work heavily and would only do floral arrangements." Nagi stated and when he saw Aya about to say no he added, "I will also help him if he asks for it, if not I will stay until I am needed, I won't take any money for the time I spent here."

Aya thought about the pros and cons of this offer for a minute before finally agreeing to let the telekinetic help. Nagi went back up the stairs as soon as the leader of Weiss had agreed, when he came back a few minutes later he was followed by Omi.

"Thank you, Aya. I was getting bored in my room" Omi explained sheepishly then moved towards the counter. He told Nagi what he had to do in the shop then wished him good luck.

So the hours passed by with Nagi helping out in Koneko no Sumu Ie and soon enough it was almost lunch break. Usually it would have been Omi who would cook for them today but apparently he won't be able to do so. So when it was time to cook lunch Aya disappeared to the back without notice.

Omi yawned as the clock ticked closer and closer to the time that they would have to eat lunch. 'Oh no! I forgot to make lunch and it's only a few more minutes before we have our break!' Omi remembered in frantic panic at the reality that they would starve if he didn't think of something up and fast.

The shop was already closed and Omi had only noticed it when Nagi had tapped on his shoulder. Nagi was about to say something when Omi cut him off with an excuse. "Uh, I need to go to the kitchen now, Nagi, so if you don't mind my leaving you I'll go right now."

"You don't need to hurry you know, the food isn't going anywhere." Ken interrupted upon hearing the boy's conversation. "Why don't you join us, Nagi?" He added but it was more of an order than a request.

"But Ken! There is no food! I was supposed to cook today." Omi tried to explain to the soccer player. Nagi made a look on the borderlines of skepticism and disbelief, Yohji whistled and Ken gave him a cheeky grin. 'Okay, what's going on? It doesn't look like Nagi knows it either but it looks like he's thinking I'm some kind of weirdo.'

It seemed like an eternity passed by in that particular scene until Aya came. "Lunch is done, come on." and as quickly as he came he went out but not before noticing the weird looks on the people of the room but he mentioned none of it to the other people of the room.

"And I worried for nothing." Omi said to no one in particular, not even to the one in front of him. He looked like a frozen statue by the time and Nagi had to help him to stand up or else he would fall face flat on the floor.

"Come on, Omi, you don't think we would let you cook in your state did you? Look at you, you're covered in bandages and should be resting. You shouldn't even be here right now" Yohji said and assisted Nagi in helping Omi stand up.

"Well, if all of you are going to stay here, I'm not going to let the food go to waste. Besides it's a rare occurence that our fearless leader would cook; an even rarer occurence for him to offer it to us.." Yohji said and proceeded to the kitchen and when he actually arrived he received a piercing glare from the said redhead. Yohji just pretended not to see it though it was near impossible.

Omi, Nagi and Ken came in after helping Omi to his senses, they took their respective places at the dinner table, even Nagi had one for himself, and all of them began to eat, all thanks to the redhead. Compliments flew in the air directed for Aya as everyone was enjoying the meal and finding it extremely delicious and all that hey had said were indeed true, everyone had fun in that hour, even Yohji did, and Yohji was receiving a glare from Aya.

Everyone was cleaning up the table, even Omi was, with a little help. Soon the kitchen, or should I say the dining area of the kitchen, was clean and everyone was going their own ways not one of them knowing what time they would come back for they had no responsibilities after this hour. Usually, Ken would go out to play soccer with the kids, Yohji went up to catch up on some sleep lost sleep until it was time for the opening of clubs or some other night activity, Aya either went to the back of the shop or somewhere out, no one knew and Omi usually went out to meet some of his friends or to think on his own but given his current condition he had to stay in the shop today and rest, not that he had minded.

Nagi had excused himself after seeing that the shop and the kitchen was clean until the last spec, the telekinetic apologized for not being able to stay any longer and needed to return home but he also promised that he would come back tomorrow morning. With every resident of Koneko asleep or outside, it was in its peaceful state once again.

---

Schuldig came in the room Crawford and he had shared, the room was very messy - papers all over the place, even though Crawford would seem as someone who is utterly clean and orderly, he isn't, at least not anymore. Schuldig sat on the chair and watched the other man in the room, waiting for the other to acknowledge his entrance.

Crawford looked up from the disarray of papers and saw the redhead seated on the chair and raised an eyebrow at him. "I thought you were going to buy food?"

"I did." Schuldig replied and pointed towards the direction of the kitchenette. When Crawford asked nothing more, Schuldig finished what he had come in here for. "Crawford, when will we be able to go home? I'm worried about Nagi. Besides we promised him we'd be home by Saturday, though it looks like we won't be able to."

Crawford perked up at the mention of Schwarz youngest member and began fixing the scattered documents on the bed. Schuldig in turn waited for the other to finish in his task to ensure his full attention was on the conversation at hand.

Crawford was now seated at the foot of the bed looking at Schuldig carefully and Schuldig in turn was looking at him from his place on the seat by the wall.

"I checked up on him a while a go, just a mild tap, nothing harsh, no side effects will come to me or him." Schuldig said as he began to tell the other the reason for his worry. " So since it was a mild tap I should have just felt a little of every emotion coursing through the boy, but what I felt was different. I was unprepared for the shock of anguish that passed through him and me so I was thrown out of the boy's thoughts." Schuldig paused to see if he could read the mind of his leader but wasn't able to. He stood up and shook the other man's shoulders. " Think for a minute, Crawford! We can't stay here any longer we need to go back! Back where Nagi is waiting for us! We can't leave him alone anymore. Please, Crawford, find out a way to get back..." Schuldig said as he fell on his knees sobbing. Crawford touched his shoulder in a comforting gesture. It was enough to say that he would try but it was still a fact that it's something near impossible, something that even he could not do.

---

The sun was setting and people were already rushing home but some were just going out for a time in the nightclubs. Parents were already crowding at the sides to see if their child could already be picked up from their little game of soccer with Ken-niichan and the kids who had been with Ken were all exhausted from the game.

"Bye Ken-niichan!" the kids said as they ran off to their parents with the remaining energy they had. Ken waved off and laughed at the bundle of energy contained by a child so small.

As the people were dispersing from the field, Ken caught sight of a familiar brunette to the side of the park laying back on the tree, he called for him but the other would not move for it seemed that he was too preoccupied with his thoughts, so he positioned his ball and hit it with all his might, confident that the brunette's instincts would kick in once there was danger near him, 'It's not as if that I plan on killing the boy...' Ken thought.

The destination of the ball not really being far off, the ball still had some speed and oh how it would hurt if you were hit by it. Luckily, the target snapped back into reality and stopped the ball just in time before it hit his delicate face.

Ken was laughing and Nagi, the said brunette, was angry with the said laughing man. 'If I had not snapped out of it I would have had a black eye, no, more than a black eye. I would have been in the hospital.'

When Ken stopped laughing and called again for the boy to come, Nagi snubbed him off. Ken then began apologizing, even to the extent of kneeling on the grass field. After being embarrassed by the act the older man had done, Nagi came nearer and ran off as he dragged the soccer player somewhere there were less people.

Nagi sat down to catch his breath and eyed the soccer player. "What the hell were you trying to do?! Embarrass me then kill me?" He sighed and massaged his shoulders, showing that he was already tired from the day's events, from the morning walk to the incident in Koneko, to working and then the events of the present.

Ken noticed the tired look from Nagi and decided to kid him around a little. "Not really, just wanted to catch your attention." he replied which annoyed Nagi all the more, making his attempt a success mission.

Nagi looked at the soccer player and the said, "You're weird, you know that?" It was funny that you could actually see a blood vein popping out of the young boy's forhead.

Ken smiled at the other and answered back, "Well, thank you. Now I know where I stand, I stand with you and the others' weirdness." Nagi almost laughed at that for it was indeed true. All of them, Weiss and Schwarz were people with weird qualities and traits and no one will be able to deny it much less hide it.

Nagi brushed the joke off anyway and finally having caught up with his breath stood up and scanned the place to see where he had lead them to which was apparently a bay. He went up to the railings, leaned on them and watched the setting sun. When he noticed that the other was quiet he asked, for old time's sake. "Did you play for half a day? Isn't that quite a long time?"

Ken got up beside the boy with his back to the railing, smiled, put the ball down and played with Nagi's hair and laughed. "Of course not! I played for about an hour right after getting out of the shop, I went back to check up on Omi and changed after that I--"

"Okay! I get it!" Nagi said not really wanting to find out what the athlete had been doing for the rest of the day after he left, already imagining the other playing all day then shopping. It wasn't really an interesting topic to delve into and Nagi knew that.

Ken grinned and asked, "So, what's wrong? You're out of it." He played with the ball fondly as he waited patiently for an answer from the boy.

"Nothing"

"Really now?" Ken said and nudged the younger boy, he was a bit disappointed by the fact that Nagi was hiding something and he continued on trying to get some answers out of him. Nagi just shook his head and then stared off far into the sea. It was very obvious that he had been troubled a while a go, that being the reason why Ken wanted to get his attention in the soccer field, now that he was able to talk to the boy, the other would not want to speak about it.

"Nagi, just remember that you have friends now, okay?" Ken said trying to assure the other that they, Weiss, were there for him even though it was ironic that they had been enemies before and even more ironic that they had been best friends before all this assassin mishap came in.

"Ken, what happened to your family?" Nagi asked abruptly while he played with his fingers, trying to avoid the older man's eyes. He knew for a fact that this was a touchy subject and he never dared to ask him before and was therefore very nervous right now.

Ken then understood Nagi's problem, besides Nagi was not one to ask useless questions, he then faced the blue black sea, the sun had already set. He looked at the younger boy then back to the sea and answered, "I can't remember anyone clearly except my mother but you already know that."

"No I don't."

"I thought you knew... after all, being with sister and all-ah! Never mind." Ken said a bit surprised, he really thought that Nagi had known this fact for a long time now. "I think they died in an "accident" in my house (1). Why do you ask?"

After a long pause Nagi was able to answer Ken's question, still unable to look at the other's eyes. "I just wanted to know what happened to an old...friend."

"I'm glad you're back Nagi." Ken said hugging the slender boy. He smiled at the thought that maybe there was a chance for all of them to live a normal life once again. 'To be normal and have friends again...'

Nagi returned the hug and pulled apart. "Well, I need to go home, bye Ken." He turned around and headed for his house but Ken had stopped him.

"I'll accompany you."

They were a few blocks away from Nagi's house. Ken was holding the soccer ball with one hand and Nagi was walking by his side and asking him a question. "Oh yeah, Ken. I've been wondering. Why did you make it seem that you and I don't know each other?"

"Because, I don't think they know of my orphanage years and I also don't want them to know about it." Ken answered Nagi and continued on their walk but Nagi had stopped and Ken noticed this.

"Oh"

"Come on, stop moping." Ken said to his companion, grinned and ran ahead of him, making it seem like some sort of a challenge, Nagi followed suit and both were off in a race with Ken being the one with a handicap and Nagi with the upperhand for knowing the way to his own house.

Both boys reached Schwarz' residence in no time and stopped by the gates. Ken grinned at his old friend and Nagi huffed and pouted as he looked at the bigger man with annoyance and of a child's contempt.

"You cheated!" Nagi said as he pointed an accusing finger at Ken. He stood straight and jabbed the said finger on Ken's chest and made his point clear.

"I did not! Besides, you knew the way." Ken defended himself and tried to ward of Nagi's finger for it was already hurting him, when he couldn't he raised his arms up in the air in defeat and sighed.

Nagi withdrew his hand and put it to his side, he knew that what Ken had said was true but he kept on pressing the issue and said quietly. "Cheater..."

Then both laughed at their childish actions. Ken then said, "I kinda miss those days at the orphanage." As he patted Nagi's back and chuckled.

"Yeah, me too." And Nagi smiled, showing his appreciation for the company today.

"Anyway, I need to go home now. Omi must be worried. Bye, Nagi." Ken said, turning back to the direction of Koneko.

Nagi bid the other good bye and waved at his departing friend. When Ken was out of sight after turning a corner Nagi spoke to the air around him confident that it will bear his message and that he will be heard, though not directly, "I'm not alone, thank you Ken. Thank you for reminding me."

Author's Notes:

1) I don't know if what I'm saying is true because, first of all, I haven't heard 'Bless the Children' (I'm not sure about this) Ok all you need to know is that Ken and Nagi knew each other before.

Oh, I'm asking for a little help, if you don't mind it that is. If anyone has heard any of the drama cd's and understood it, could you tell me what happened, I can't buy any of them here in my country.

R&r please, C&c are also welcomed and if you want to flame me do so. But if no one reviews I'll probably take this fic down, I don't think anybody likes it anymore...
