Chapter 7::Sunshine Nights
by Johin
"You are my Sunshine, my only Sunshine..." a girl sang whilst the rain continued to pour harder, supposedly making it hard to hear the girl but her voice resonated around the place like she wasn't even competing with the noise the storm was creating and yet she could not be heard by anyone but her own self.
"You make me happy when skies are gray..." she sang to herself while she watched vigilantly the events that were happening outside, watching with eyes like that of a cat's, from the window of the building she was staying in, keeping her dry from the cold of the rain.
"You never know, Dear, how much I love You..." The nameless girl swung her feet to and fro making the rhythmic beating coming from the wooden cabinet she sat on, situated just before the window out looking the main street and the beating going well with the song that she was singing.
The female hopped off the cabinet and came closer to the window sill, preparing herself for the big leap she was about to make. "Please don't take my Sunshine away." With the final line sung, she leapt of off the building and as if on cue Omi came running down the street the girl was heading for, crashing.
A few more seconds, had the girl not moved, you would think her to be a goner, but her wings came out from her back and unfurling for a few seconds before she flew to the direction the running boy was heading for, saving her from what seemed as her inevitable death.
The winged girl, or rather, angel, went ahead a few more meters before stopping right in front of the boy. She held her arms open, as if waiting for the other to come crashing into her and hold her with the care he did before. As the boy neared the angel, time seemed to slow down and the female touched Omi's cheeks. She opened her mouth to say something and this time it didn't go fruitlessly for the boy had heard her speak the last line of the old lullaby. "Please, don't take my Sunshine away." and Omi froze in his place for shock of hearing that familiar voice that belonged to the child angel.
The clock chimed 8:30 and Ken was panicking with Omi gone for nearly two hours now, he went back and forth in the area that was known as Koneko, their flower shop, waiting for any news from either Aya, for he had not come home yet or from Yohji who had gone out to look for the other boy.
Ken came to a stop by the door of their shop, raised the blinds blocking his view and sighed. His eyes searched for any sign of someone's arrival but none came and his thoughts then turned to the events earlier that day, just a few hours having passed and those thoughts still fresh in his mind.

"He's probably off to Nagi's house..." Yohji said as he inspected the room of Omi.
"Then let's go check it out." Ken ordered from his place by the window and began heading for the outside of Omi's room to head for the garage not pausing for a shirt or a coat to put on.
"Ken!" Yohji called and held the other man's wrists so that Ken wouldn't be able to escape. "Stay here, someone has to wait here. You're the best person in that kind of situation." Yohji explained and let go of Ken's wrists as he had noticed a look of pain on the boy
"Best person? Who do you think I am someone that'll keep on doing nothing!?" Ken asked as he pounded his fists on Yohji's chest. "I can't wait and I won't wait! I'll come with you! I have to see if he's safe..." Ken trailed off as his shoulders began to shake, tears falling fast from his eyes.
"Stay here, and when he comes home I'm sure he'll be happy to see you. More than he'll be happy to see me. There's only a fifty percent chance of me being able to find him but if you stay here you'll have a hundred percent chance of seeing him safely to bed." Yohji explained and pulled away from the teary boy in front of him. "...Besides, you're stronger than I am, I'm sure you'll be able to do it."
< ---------- >
'I couldn't even see his face or where he'd gone off to.' Ken thought to himself and began pacing the room again and stopped suddenly in front of the counter slamming his hands down on the wood. "What the hell do you mean by, 'you're stronger than I am. All I've done is cry! How the hell can you categorize me then as someone strong, Yo-tan?! HOW?" He threw the nearest pot across the room, causing a loud crashing sound and a heap of soil to dirty the floor.
Ken backed off a few steps, picked up a chair and slumped down. "I don't want to wait anymore," Ken said as he shook his head slowly, looking down on the clean floor. "I'd have to face all the worries of all you peoples' safety without ever knowing whether all of you will return in one piece, I don't want to face them alone,
"That's why you're wrong, Yohji, I don't have a hundred percent chance of seeing him again. I have the same amount to what you have and then even less because he's not the only one I wait for, worry for." Ken whispered to no one as the tears came back like a wave, overflowing him silently.
Ken perked up when he heard the jingling of keys that came from the outside of the shop. He stood waiting for the intruder to enter the premises that belonged to them, Weiss, with his guard raised to that of one on a mission.
Aya entered the shop and was surprised to say the least to see that Ken's eyes were puffy, from crying most likely, and yet on his guard therefore he was caught in his unawares when that same man came running to him clinging on to his neck profusely. "What the-!?"
"Ran! I'm so glad that you're okay! Omi ran away and Yohji went after him-" Ken tried to explain thought it went in vain for Aya couldn't understand a word Ken said.
"One at a time, Ken but first you have to breathe." Aya instructed. The guy put his keys down on the counter nearby, guided Ken to a seat, looking at the brunette with sincerity as he clamped his hands down on the boy's shoulders and the boy did as he was told. "Now, what's this about Omi and where's Yohji?"
"Omi ran away and Yohji went after him. He went to Nagi's house, that being the most suspicious of all."
"He ran away?" Aya lifted his hold on Ken and his face looked thoughtful, his mind searching for an answer as to how to get the boy back and of what reasons did the boy run away. "I'm going after both of them."
"No!" Ken screamed, standing up and latching a hand on the redhead leader. Aya looked back at him shocked, implying the need for and explanation from the brunette and with that action the brunette let go of the other's arm. "I mean, no. I don't want to lose you to, Aya."
"Ken, nothing will happen to either Yohji or me. I'm worried about Omi as much as you are." Aya explained his eyes turning soft though unseen by the soccer player as Aya had turned his back on the brunette, picking up the keys he had put down previously.
"Still, Aya, please don't go. I don't want to worry about-" Ken stopped in mid-sentence for a long time with his face unreadable but Aya waited patiently for the explanation that was bound to come. "You don't know how hard it is to wait alone, Aya. Please, don't go."
Ken felt stricken when Aya had turned back to pick up his keys but decided not to show it by sitting back down on the chair, he felt betrayed when the person he had believed in the most to be at his side right now in this time of need had chosen to leave him behind and thus, when he felt to a hand on his shoulder he looked up, hope beginning to course through his veins.
"You haven't eaten yet, have you? I'll prepare dinner and then we'll wait together. Just let me put my things in my room." Aya said and headed back outside they shop and as soon as he was gone Ken felt the tears pooling again in his eyes.
"Thanks, Ran."
Omi was glad that he had been able to spot Yohji's car before he came into the playboy's view. He couldn't believe that Yohji had come after him. Omi could have expected it from Ken but not from Yohji. Omi pressed himself closer to the wall that was hiding him from Yohji and melted with the shadows making him hard to see especially in this kind of weather.
"Nobody's home. So where could they be?" Yohji said, exasperated by the revelation that no one was home at the Schwarz residence. He made a move towards the car and entered it faltering a bit when he gave the dark house a glance back.
Omi heard the playboy's curses though a bit faint and began to worry. 'If Nagi's not there then where is he?' He waited a few minutes more for Yohji to leave before making his move towards the dark house. Knowing that no one was going to answer him he searched for other possible entrances.
He first rounded the house, seeking to find an open door, only to find that they were locked, which was expected given the current happenings. He then began searching for broken or open windows on the lower grounds, and of course there were none. Hours passed and Omi was beginning to feel the pain of being outside in the cold piercing rain.
After his first attempts, he then tried climbing up a nearby tree this time, failing all the same because of his weariness. He fell on the floor with a loud thud, in effect scraping his hands and knees. It was then that Omi felt doubts if Nagi was even inside the house. 'Why wouldn't he answer the door?' He cried at the pain he felt coming from the new and old wounds that he made on himself, though some of them were not really his work he considered them as such.
The wheat-blonde boy stood up to leave with the aid of the tree that was in front of him. Omi was nearly out of the gates when he gave the house a glance back and an idea struck him. He searched his pockets as he leaned on the wall for support. He became frantic in his search and sighed in relief when he found what he had been looking for, it was the phone that was given to him by his guardians sort of like a gift on his previous birthday, carefully hidden in a small pocket that had better protection for weather such as this, a pocket that he had made himself from the best material he could muster.
He ran for shade under the tree and opened the contraption and turned it on once he was assured that it was dry and that his handicraft pocket was working its purpose. Omi dialed what he knew to be the brunette's number and his eyes roamed the upper rooms searching for any clue, straining his ears too for any sound of the phone of the other boy, if he wasn't mistaken Nagi made the tune similar to an old song that was used as a lullaby.
The call ended without Omi being able to find the presence of the other boy but there was this feeling that Nagi was there and so Omi didn't stop, he called again. He strained his ears harder for the music that was familiar to him. So concentrated was Omi in his task that he didn't notice the rain stop from its move towards the ground. Silence conquered him until finally he heard it, and the music was indeed coming from inside the house, the upper floor to be exact.
The boy made a move again for the tree wanting to get a better view of the inside of the house. Omi fell once or twice but he didn't stop in his quest. Finally, Omi reached a branch that he thought strong enough to hold him, he dialed the number once again and praised the one who was looking down on him right now, gracing him with blessings. He could see the dim light that was being emitted by the phone although it was quite peculiar for it to be on the floor.
He made his way slowly to the window, careful of his moves, and again he was thankful that the window was open unlike that of the ones on the ground floor. Upon reaching the end of the branch he made a move to swing himself on to the other side, there was still a large distance from the branch to the window, and failed, almost falling to the ground.
Omi held on to the branch with a single hand, sighing in relief when he hadn't fallen completely. He heaved up his body and heard the resounding crack of the branch. He moved faster and yet with more care than before. He heard another crack and his heart began racing with his brain with the speed of a mile a minute. 'Don't panic, Omi, and even if you do fall it won't hurt that much. You've been in worse scrapes, like being on the brink of death... through poison.' Though it wasn't very encouraging thoughts, it kept the boy going and he readied himself for another swing. Another crack was heard and he swung himself to the window this time successfully.
He got inside the house and looked back to the old tree and the branch that was on the verge on falling. 'Never trust tree branches to hold you for so long. Especially one that looks just right for your weight.' He looked around the place and saw that it was the hallway that held the living quarters, farther back was a door that was open, giving enough light to aid him. A person's first instinct would be to go to that room but instead he surveyed the area some more, turning his back to that area.
He looked then to his side wherein he was able to notice a small table, out of the window's way, that held, what he presumed to be Nagi's school bag, and on the floor was the phone he had spotted earlier. The phone wasn't the only thing on the floor, there were traces of liquids and fragments of rocks, specifically cement.
The weary boy followed this trail, taking his time to scrutinize the mess for a few seconds, finding out that the liquids from before were actually blood and water, before he hastened his pace in worry for his friend. He trembled and held on the wall for support, the impact of his headache coming full force at him now. 'This can't be happening now!'
Omi stopped abruptly when he saw a pair of legs sticking out of a room. Various thoughts rushed into the teens mind, those thoughts none at all pleasant. He rushed to the figure that was on the floor, forgetting completely his pained and tired self.
"Nagi wake up! Come on."
Nagi was sprawled on the floor naked and with an arm coated with blood that was probably his own. The boy did not show any signs of waking nor moving from the spot and left Omi to do first aid, he got the other boy to the bed as best as he could, set him in a comfortable position and covered him with a blanket.
"Where would one keep medical material, even if the most basic?" Omi asked to himself as he scurried down the hall, opening and closing doors, and searching for the particular items he had been seeking for.
"The bathroom" He said as he realized that he was doing something futile if he kept on searching, what seemed to be Farfello's room, which consisted of anything sharp that could be found in some medical and dissecting kits (i.e. scalpels, probes, etc...).
He ran down the hallway sure of himself that the other rooms weren't the place he should be searching for. He reached near the end and saw the lit room once again. He entered the place and saw the damaged, bloodied wall. He flinched realizing that it was Nagi's reaction to something that could've caused this mess.
He moved to the mirror cabinet, above the sink, to his left, and opened it finding that his hunch was indeed correct even if his mind was working at a very slow pace. He checked the materials inside the box and found that it wasn't really the most basic of all, of course they were assassins after all, but ironically there wasn't an alcohol bottle available..
He set the box down and searched for towels. He found them got the kit and headed back to Nagi's room. Upon reaching the room he put the items down near the unconscious boy's bed, leaving in a hurry once again.
The rush of flowing water could be heard in the kitchen, filling a fairly big pot. Omi then turned the stove on as the pot was filled. He laid the pot on the stove and left the room so as the water would reach its boiling point, heading back to Nagi's quarters to check- up on the other boy's condition.
"Are you finished with those?"
"Hmm?" Aya asked off-handedly, not having heard the question clearly, as he picked through what was on his plate and popped some vegetables into his mouth.
"I guess not, then." Ken said and went back to his own plate of food.
"Do you want it?"
"I just thought you weren't going to eat it and it would be a waste of good food." He explained to the redhead, not looking up.
"Here" Aya leaned towards the table so as to get closer to the man he was conversing with and transferred the food that was eyed by the brunette a minute a go, to the boy's plate, nearly emptying his own.
Ken was shocked, to say the least, he hadn't meant to take all of the food, only just a small portion. "But what about you?!"
"I'm not that hungry, I ate a bit on the way home." Aya said and both men remained quiet there after as they sat by the dining table, taking in the nutrition they needed for their day to day lives.
Upon finishing his own share, Aya got up and began to clean the dishes, and Ken followed suit, after a while, and worked beside him.
"Aya, tell me. Would you forgive Nagi if he ever did something to your sister before?" Ken asked gravely as the rush of water flowed out of the faucet, almost drowning out his voice.
"He already did, didn't he? And I let it pass since, didn't I?" Aya replied, brow creasing as he wondered how this conversation would end up.
"What about if it happened and Omi never came to terms with Nagi, would you forgive him then?"
Aya was at a loss to the behavior of the soccer player beside him but he still thought carefully of the answer to the question posed to him, hoping that if he answered the questions would stop as he made his hands work mechanically to rinse the materials that had been used before. "...I guess not. I wouldn't know what he would be like then."
"Then, what if, the two of you were already on friendly terms, the state we are in now, and he killed your sister. What would you do?" He asked again, shooting down Aya's hopes and making him feel more worried than ever.
"I-I wouldn't know" Ran said, stopping in his work and a soft thud was heard as the utensils held by the assassin's callous hands sank to the bottom of the sink. "What is with the questions, Ken?"
"That was what happened to Nagi, Ran. I, his friend, killed off a few of his most important people in life." Ken explained also stopping in his task. "I'm sure you've heard of Mission Rache, haven't you? "
The redhead nodded his confirmation as the brunette turned to look at him in the eye. He wasn't part of the team at that time but he had been told about it by Manx, though not in detail. He wondered of the connection between this boy in front of him now and of the Schwarz prodigy.
"What I asked you, they were what had happened to Nagi in that mission, betrayal and suffering." Ken explained in a hushed voice. "I just wanted you to know. So please don't blame him."
"Don't worry I won't."
"I won't promise anything but I will try to make this painless on your part so please bear with me." Omi said to the unconscious boy. He had felt the need to say so to Nagi before doing anything to the boy that lay down on the soft mattress in the room.
'There's not enough time. His breathing is beginning to slow down at an alarming pace and he's lost too much blood. I shouldn't have taken too long.' Omi berated with himself as he sterilized the equipment with the water he had boiled from before and followed suit was his own hands.
He dipped his hands in the water that was so hot it seemed to scathe the other boy. He winced and almost yelled in pain, but bore it all the same. Once he was sure his hands were clean, he neared where the boy lay and kneeled. He subsequently began cleaning the wounds on the slim boy once again and then began to commence the "surgery" on the brunette's biggest wound found in his left shoulder.
Hours seemed to pass by and Omi's patience was put to the test as he noticed some obstructions on the boy's shoulder but finished the operation all the same with the final touches of bandages. All he could do now was to wait, wait for the other boy to wake up, wait for the other boy to regain his normal breathing and heart beat, wait for him to come back.
Omi stood up from his former position, crouched before the bedside, and headed to the closet to his right. He opened the wood work and searched for clothes that would be easy to put on. He was actually hoping to find a nightgown but then again it would be quite impossible, given that it would be weird for a boy to be seen in such clothing. He found a blue Chinese silk shirt with an intricate design of two dragons entwining with one another forming a circle, an emblem of sorts, on the right chest, its hemlines colored white and a pair of pants to match it off, he drew the two out of the wardrobe and went for some underwear for the boy.
After finding an ensemble easy enough to put on the boy, Omi headed back to the bed side and set to work, putting the garments on Nagi silently, gently and with utmost care so as he would not disturb the boy from his slumber. He finished buttoning the shirt and set to do the other half of the body.
Omi felt hot after finishing the task, he flushed when he stood up from his position, feeling all of his energy drain from his body, all the adrenaline gone. He shook as he pulled up a chair and rested his head on his folded arms on the table beside him, falling into the clutches of fatigue and stress, making him take a toll, and fall asleep
Yohji entered the shop and found two unusual things. One, Ken wasn't here in the shop waiting for the genki blonde to come home, and two, it seemed as if their fearless leader was home and yet nowhere to be found.
He walked forward, tracing the lines on the wall, using it as a guide to know where he was going since it was too dark, and turning on the lights would only make whoever it was waiting for him, alert. He reached the backdoor and was faced with a deserted kitchen. He continued in his path an went down the stairs found at the end of the room, checking the basement first, rather than the living area, since a soft buzz was coming from there.
He descended the stairs and found the two he was looking for, both reading a book that was engraved with the letters of SPAREN in gold. Aya was the one holding the book and Ken overlooked the other's shoulder as to read with him. Yohji raised a brow and coughed loudly, announcing his arrival.
Aya and Ken looked up from what they were reading and noticed Yohji, causing Ken to flush and Aya to pale, making Yohji's eyebrow's shoot up to is hairline.
"Yohji, you're home. What of Omi and Nagi?" Ken asked recovering from the previous embarrassment of not noticing the other person in the room.
"No luck." Yohji said to the two moving to the solo seat since the sofa had already been occupied.
"Well, where could they be? It's impossible for them to just vanish like that." Aya said his musings and closed the book that lay open in his lap, setting it down on the low table before them.
"But an American and a group of foreigners did tip me off..." Yohji said as he threw his head back to stare at the ceiling. He didn't see the other two exchange looks of confusion and worry but he knew they would know just to who he was talking about.
Yohji frowned and continued, "They said, don't look and they'll send a bonus package and it'll be dropped of by the biggest Sakura tree in Ueno park right before sunrise (1)."
'By the tree bathed in blood' Ken thought and was dumbstruck as realization broke through his mind.
"Ken? What's wrong?" Aya asked when he heard a sharp intake of breath from the person beside him and was caught unaware when Ken shook him hard.
"We have to get to Ueno Park now! Schwarz is going to end it now, we have to stop them, Ran!" Ken explained and it only took a few seconds before Aya was up on his toes and heading for upstairs with Ken tailing him, leaving Yohji behind.
"That's right. It's finally the end?" Yohji told himself and sighed in exasperation. "I need a smoke." And he did so giving himself the simple pleasures that nicotine is able to give while he thought. 'I'm going to kill myself one day if I continue on this way.'
'It's cold. What is-water?'
Omi groaned at the cold contact on his forehead and winced when he felt another droplet trickle down to his chin. He slowly opened his eyes to find himself staring into blue depths. "Nagi?"
"Yes? Don't move around, you had a high fever when I came to." Nagi ordered as he wrung a washcloth in a basin and dabbing them on Omi's face, taking off the ice pack that was settled on the other boy's forehead.
"I see."
"Omi, I thank you. I don't know how you got in or how you knew but you saved me." Nagi said while taking care of the other boy and applying water on the kitten's face. He dipped the cloth in the basin, wrung it and did the procedure again, this time on the boy's arms. "Thank you for clothing me to." He added with a note of embarrassment but kept that feeling hidden well with year's of practice.
"You're welcome. Thank you too," Omi replied smiling at the other boy with his face all flushed from the heat he felt and at the same time the cold that the wind had brought in. "At least now, we're even."
"Yeah."
Omi closed his eyes again, not having fully recovered from the events from the night before, he prepared for a long rest when he heard Nagi speak.
"Don't sleep just yet, not until your fever has gone down. You'll heal faster that way, in the meantime I'll prepare something to eat."
Omi took in the information given to him by his Schwarz counter part, the said person left the room. He glanced around the place looking for any indication of time and saw it was nearly three in the morning from the alarm clock on the study. "How the hell is he able to recover from his injuries so severe at such a short time? It's only been four hours, more or less, before I fell asleep on the table."
He sat up from his position and regretted the action, 'I have GOT to learn my lesson.' He let his feet fall to the floor making him face the door and feeling the light brush of silk against skin and he nearly jumped because of it. "My clothes..."
Omi was wearing to something similar to that of the Schwarz Prodigy except that it was colored red and the emblem would be found on the left chest rather than on the right and the hemline was colored black.
"Hey, I told you not to move around, didn't I?"
"Nagi!" Omi exclaimed at the sudden entrance of the telekinetic. "Umm, my clothes,"
"They're in the laundry." Nagi replied and moved closer to the Weiss kitten. "Do you like them? I thought that it would only be right for me to give you what you gave me."
"I can't believe you have a cutesy pair of night clothing." Omi said smiling as hi fiddled with the hemline of the shirt.
"They're easy to put on, so shut it." Upon reaching the bedside Nagi put down a tray containing two bowls of soup and some water, Omi laughed at this.
"What are you laughing at Weiss?" Nagi asked, surprised with his classmate's reaction to the food. 'Don't you want the food?'
"It's just that I felt dé ja vú wash over me. Wasn't it just like this last Sunday?" Omi said in between chuckles "And yet, so many things have happened between my team and yours." He continued his eyes glazing a bit as he stopped in his laughing fits.
"Time is like that sometimes it moves too slowly and then too fast, just like the breeze." Nagi explained as he set the food for the blonde boy and sitting beside him. "Here, eat this up and then you can go back to sleep. Sorry for having disturbed you." He said and began consuming his own bowl of soup.
Omi did as told but taking his time as he did so. The rain seemed to have stopped now and any foreboding was gone now. "Nagi, how are your wounds?"
"They're fine."
"But it hasn't been long, you haven't rested yet and you're already up and about." Omi said trying to avoid the other's eyes in fear that he might be scolded at again. Nagi was weird that way, but unique in the same time, Omi had figured that out a long time a go.
"You forget, I am part of Schwarz, they have tortured us time and time again for fast healing." Nagi explained vaguely to the boy seated beside him, though it really didn't matter. It was, after all, just in his nature to heal quickly than a normal person would.
Omi understood the boy though and went deep in thought as if in sync with the brunette. The two who were keeping their peace was suddenly disturbed by a German's voice that came from the outside of the room.
"Tadaima, ochibi."
"Schu?" Nagi uttered in disbelief he set his bowl down, stood up and ran to the redhead German, hugging him with all his might. "It is you! You're home! Is Crawford-san with you? Where's Farfie?"
"Woah, hold your horses, chibi! I can only answer one question at a time." The German said grinning ear to ear at the young boy. "As to your questions, you'll find out soon enough."
Omi watched the display of emotion before him, this was a side he had never seen in Nagi before, nor with the German, the Mastermind to be exact.
"Schu, I'd like you to meet-" Nagi started but was cut off
"Yes I know, Tuskiyono Omi right? Or should I say Takatori, Mamoru." Schuldig stated and with that simple sentence the mood of the room changed abruptly from happy to eerily silent. He eyed the boy sitting on Nagi's bed and turned back to the telekinetic beside him. "Do you want to come?"
"Where?" Nagi asked finally aware that this is not a happy time at the moment. He looked at his friend on the bed and found that Omi was ashamed and angry at the older man Nagi looked up to.
"Ueno Park, we'll drop off the kitten after the little trip so you might wanna come." Schuldig explained and turned his back to the duo inside the room after finally unlatching himself from the seemingly happy boy, knowing that he had done enough and it would all be up to the two boys.
"Nagi, I don't want to go." Omi told the boy in blue. "I have a bad feeling."
Nagi looked at the other, went back to the bedside and offered a hand. "Let's go together then. I to can't ever trust my team mates fully but this is because they have their assassin's instincts within them. All of this will hopefully turn out for the best." He said with an encouraging smile that was rarely seen adorning the boy's face. "Besides, you gave me a chance to be your friend, right? Why not them?"
Omi fell off of the bed and hit the floor. "You! You gave me a hard time before you were even talking to me and even harder time to get along with! What more of them? I ask back at you." Omi screamed at his former nemesis, a vein popping out of his head.
"Well, the point was that, I doubt they'd do something ridiculous so stop whining because I can't bring you home given my current condition." Nagi uttered, his smile wiped off from his face, replaced by a scowl.
"Fine." Omi said with a sigh. "Thanks again, Nagi"
"Sure. Just make sure to rest once you get home."
"Let's go."
"Ken! Get back here!" Aya called over to the running teen, heading for the center of the park. He cursed when the call was left unheeded, left his car and went after the wild athlete.
"Ken!"
'I must get there before those bastards.' Ken thought, running towards the appointed meeting point and snarled as he saw two figures standing under the shade of the tree. "You! Where's Omi?" Ken demanded while he was a few meters away, sure that he would still be heard by the two men.
"They're coming don't worry." Crawford said as he came into view stepping out into the moon's light.
"Ken!" Aya called again, catching up to the soccer player and arriving to at the meeting place. "This is what I've been telling you about. Yohji was in this." The redhead whispered and the brunette clenched his teeth, knowing that it was true all along but never wanting to believe in it.
"Yes, that playboy was in this, since he thought it would do well for the young ones of our team." Crawford said impassively as a gleam from behind him shot out, making a reminder that the Schwarz leader was not alone.
"I'll repeat my question. Where is Omi? And to add to that, where's Nagi as well?" Ken said his voice never cracking, still filled with the courage that was in there ever since the beginning.
A tune of remorse could be heard not far off, coming from the forest, from there footsteps could be heard. A German came out first, followed by Nagi and then by Omi.
"Oya! The crew's here already." The German said amused at the sight of Ken and Aya. He grinned knowing that both were feeling a lot of contempt now.
"Nagi, what's happening?" Omi asked, backing away from the people in front of him and went closer to the boy beside him.
"I-I don't know myself." Nagi admitted, he scanned the eyes of Crawford and the eyes of other people, trying to see if he could find out what brought this event out but found no answer.
"I have gathered you all here to tell you of a legend." Crawford said and then smirked knowing that one of the two rescuers already knew of the story and that they would remain rooted to the ground until he was finished, with a little help from Schuldig's telepathy. "It is about two creatures who were supposed to meet here in Ueno Park, this exact spot. They are still alive, these beings, living here in this place, so they say.
"It was on a raining night that the villagers had heard the howl of satan's dog, as if calling to somebody and it was also in the same night that a faint singing of god's seraphim could be heard. The seraph descended gracefully and was welcomed by the devil and soon that devil changed into a form that was nearly human. The two stayed there in each other's arms while the rain pelted them as if trying to separate them, warn them of the dangers ahead.
"The villagers who had heard the devil dog's howling and barking and the god angel's singing became intrigued and sought for the source, stumbling upon the two who were being drenched and seemed not to give a care. Needless to day, the villagers attacked the black one.
"The two were caught in their unawares resulting with the demon being greatly injured and was knocked unconscious. The angel, having recovered from the initial shock, spread its wings for cover to protect the demon lover. The townspeople did not expect this and was not given time to react, in effect killing the angel.
"They then feared god and above all the demon with them, surely if the two of them were lovers, this demon would kill them all if the crime was ever found out. Now, they wouldn't afford getting killed would they? They then buried the body of the ethereal creature under the nearly dead sakura tree making it bloom back to life and have lush pink petals.
"The demon had only come to a few days later and was shocked to find out so. It stood up and prevented a villager from passing by, wanting to know what happened to his angel lover, and was enraged to know that the angel had died, with his hands no less. He became enraged and killed everyone in sight, not sparing one from his wrath. (2) " Crawford finished, he then wiped his glasses of the dew that was forming on the surface.
"What has this got to do with us?" Omi asked, finding his courage for a split second and losing it right away on having heard the answer they gave to him.
"Oh, it has a lot to do with you guys, especially, you two." Schuldig said, pointing at both Omi and Nagi and glaring at the wheat blonde boy. "You see we wanted to create a play, but we lack the time so we're going to cut this play short. But first the roles, we, Crawford, Siberian, Abyssinian and I...and Farfello, are the villagers and you two will be the demon and the angel." Schuldig said pointing out the tasks for everyone, just like Crawford told him.
"As I said, we don't have time so I'll just kill you right here, right now dearest angel." Schuldig said with malice clear in his eyes as he took out a knife from his pocket. "Good bye"
Nagi couldn't react, they were going to kill someone who had helped him so much through these past ordeals for his safety, or for their pleasure, Nagi didn't know. He was shell-shocked and made no immediate move to help the boy beside him, if not for his pleas for help he would never have snapped out of it.
Nagi reached out and blocked the older man's way making the blonde hide behind him "NO! Schuldig, stop this! Have you gone insane?" he asked. His eyes roamed around the place in search of help but found none seeing that both Ken and Aya as preoccupied with Farfello and Crawford.
Schuldig remained unfazed by the child's act and kept on advancing on Bombay. He almost tore through the human barrier Nagi had made himself of, running at the boy in full speed, when he found himself facing an invisible wall and was thrown back hitting a tree.
"Run, Omi, run!" Nagi barked
Omi could do nothing but follow orders. He ran for his life tearing through the woods, tears streaming down his face. He didn't know why but when Crawford narrated the story he heard the Sakura cry out and he felt the same pain as that of the angel. When he realized no one was following him he stopped to catch his breath, holding on to the tree's trunk.
'Nagi! I have to get Nagi back he's injured!' Omi thought, remembering his friend's condition. He took one last intake of air and ran back to where he had left his friend.
He backtracked his path, going through the same groves, same trees, until he reached near the end of the woods. He crouched behind a bush, camouflaging himself from the rest of the world.
"Stop it Schuldig. Stop it." Nagi said, whimpering as he held onto the man, trying to contain him and the man's anger. "You don't need to do that."
"The two Weiss are asleep now." Crawford stated, breaking the two up and Farfello came in tow, now sane, after the adrenaline left his body completely.
"But I'm not." And a click of a gun could be heard.
"What the-Balinese! I see you mustered up some guilt to come here." Schuldig said taunting the Weiss member, unmoved by the fact that this guy was pointing a gun on his head. "Go ahead shoot me."
Yohji was stricken, he didn't know what to do and got the only option he had. He pointed the gun towards Nagi. Though it should have been possible for the kid to move him out of the way, he won't be able to do so, given his current condition and everyone knew of this after being with the boy for sometime. "Where's Omi?" he demanded, taking hold of his captive.
"We don't know." Farfello spoke, for once, during this whole ordeal. "Nagi told him to run to the woods. Don't hurt Nagi and leave this place now."
"And you think I joined up with you guys for you to hurt Omi? Hell no!" He retorted, he tightened his grip on Nagi making him scream in pain. "You guys were going to kill him. What if I pose the same threat to dear Prodigy here?"
"Yohji don't!" Omi commanded as he shot out of his place from the bush exposing himself to the others
"Omi-" Yohji said out of surprise and almost let go of his captive. He glared at the other Schwarz members and that told them enough to stay still.
"Yohji, let go of Nagi." Omi said more firm than that of the first statement, when Yohji would not listen he closed in the remaining space between them only to be intercepted by a hand belonging to none other than Crawford.
"I'll make a deal with you, Balinese" Crawford began, holding on to the Weiss kitty, Bombay, firmly, and pushed up his glasses.
"Go ahead, I'm listening."
"Give us Nagi and we'll give you your precious Omi but if they are to be returned without one of them dead, then they may never be allowed to see each other for no other purposes than school." Crawford proposed, pushing his glasses up once more.
The lanky blonde looked at the man skeptically at the last statement and he explained. "I doubt you have enough money to transfer your Bombay so we'll just find a solution ourselves. Do we have a deal, Kudou-san?"
'No Yohji, don't accept, they probably have other plans for us. No! Don't!' Omi thought, covering his ears for whatever Yohji would say he did not want to hear.
"It's a deal then." Yohji said sealing a pact between black and white.
Two groans could be heard from behind them and in matter of seconds, Aya and Ken were back on their feet.
The sun was beginning to rise and it would end then and there. Yohji gave Schwarz Nagi and they in turn threw Omi back to Weiss. There no longer lived grey where both parties could stand peacefully on, if only for a while.
Omi still covered his ears, shaking his head in disbelief of what he had just witnessed. Now when it was confirmed, it was also the time when it would be impossible for him to ever reach out to that person again with that he went into hysterics and called out to the retreating figure that had been his closest friend for the shortest time and yet the best times he ever had, even if some were of pain and sorrow, the one week was over.
"Nagi, I love you!"
You are my Sunshine,
My only Sunshine
You make me happy,
When skies are gray
You never know, Dear,
How much I loved you
Please don't take My Sunshine away.

1) As far as I know there is an Ueno park
2) No such Japanese legend so please don't copy the idea, it is mine, though I was inspired by Tokyo Babylon and Yami no Matsuei.
