Chapter 10
Another coffee mug went flying into the wall. "You have got to be kidding!" Michiel yelled at Crawford's back. "SZ mission or not, I won't do it!"
Schuldig and Crawford glanced at the wall briefly, then turned back to the glaring girl. "That's the second time you've done that," Schuldig started. "Have you considered anger therapy?"
Michiel's hand came back for a hit, then fell. "No," she whispered. "I won't use force to make them do this mission. It's too early." She blinked, trying to force tears down. "You don't understand. I can't do this. I promised... that I wouldn't..." Her chest heaved with her breaths as she fought her tears. "I wouldn't... kill them..." Michiel swept her hand back, and administered a sharp slap to Schuldig's cheek. "And you can stop thinking that!"
The two men just looked at her, and sighed. "SZ told me if you don't agree to this mission," Crawford told her, his lips quirking slightly, "that they won't pay for this house and any damages you inflict upon it."
"Damn!" The curse exploded past her lips. Michiel studied the floor for a bit, then raised her ice eyes to Crawford and Schuldig. "I'll do it," she said, her voice colorless. Her tanned hands rose to her line of sight. "Get Aya and Omi," she muttered. "We're going out."

"Ow, shit!"
Aya and Omi glared at her, the younger boy's chest heaving with angry breaths. "I can't do that!" he cried hysterically at her. "My teammates..."
"Are right here," Michiel finished, peeling herself off the wall. "I hate to tell you this, little kitten, but you belong to SZ now." She pulled off one glove, wincing as her hand came in contact with the night's frigid air. "And this is what they'll do to you if you don't agree to your mission." She slipped her bare fingers around Omi's wrist, holding tight.
At the girl's touch, the intensity of the voices in his head increased sharply, and Omi cried out, tears slipping from his eyes. Her grip tightened, the fingers digging into his skin, and the mental catastrophe grew louder. Finally, she let his wrist drop from her short fingers, and Omi collapsed on the ground as a marionette would when its strings were cut, the telepathic cries slowly dying back to their usual intensity.
"What did you do?!" Aya yelled at the woman, furious. The next words died in his throat as Michiel took his wrist in her hands, pushing the glove away so skin met skin. A vision rose in his mind, one that made his blanch in horror at the amount of blood and gore, and yet another followed hard on the heels of the former, one that forced a blush on his pale features at the sight and sensation. Visions collided in his head, trying to be seen and felt at once, when Michiel took her hand away.
"That's what SZ wanted to stabilize," she whispered. "And you work for them now. Get up, now, and get on your mission, or I'll do it again." The blonde slipped her glove back on, and looked disapprovingly down at the two prone Weiss members. "Oh, get over it!"

Michiel studied her gloved hand, Youji and Ken in her peripheral vision. "No," she said before either of them could say a word. "I won't show you where Omi and Aya are. Instead..." She turned her head slowly to look at them. "You'll find out what I was about to say." She hopped down from the crate, her hand on her waist. "You guys get the best missions, really," the girl told them, sarcasm dripping from her voice.
Youji's wire spun out of his hands, and embedded itself next to her face. "I'm not in the mood," the former PI snarled. "Where are they?"
The blonde laughed, her fluty voice as icy as her eyes. "I don't know," she taunted them as she pulled off one glove. "They could be here, they could be there, they could be nowhere, they could be everywhere!" Michiel's unprotected hand reached out for Ken, her features twisted in a demonic smile. "Here, I'll give you an idea..."
"No!"
Michiel struggled in Omi's sudden grasp. "Let go! Let me the fuck go!" She glared at the two surprised Weiss members, and lifted her upper lip in a snarl. "Oh, don't look so shell shocked. What, did you expect me to have given them to Farfarello?"
Omi spoke softly before Ken or Youji could open their mouths. "Don't... you proved your point. Don't put them through what you put me and Aya through!"
She stopped struggling, and slowly slid to her knees, dragging the smaller boy with her. "What I did..." Her ice blue eyes closed for a brief moment, then opened again as she spun around in Omi's grip, placing her bare hand against his cheek. The boy screamed in pain, his hands falling from Michiel's body. "You mean this?!"
Ken stepped forward to rescue his teammate. "Let him go."
Michiel laughed bitterly. "A gift, from me to you, dearie." She stood, taking her hand from Omi's face, and slapped the advancing Youji. "Take heart. You can't feel what he was from that." She pulled her glove back on, and took hold of Omi's collar. "What I am? I can hear you thinking, and I bet the other two telepaths I work with can too. I'm someone who's worked with SZ for almost twelve years." Michiel looked back at them. "I was suppose to have kidnapped you two tonight," she told them. "And have done to you what I did to Omi and Aya." The girl let go of Omi's collar. "You can take them with you, but they need help. Help I can get them, since I work for SZ."
"But why would you be getting them the help?" Youji spat at her, holding his cheek. "Like you said, you work for SZ."
"I work for them, yes." Michiel looked down at Omi, and gathered the boy into her arms. "But I promised." She rose to her feet, taking the boy with her. "Mission... failed. And I don't give a shit." She left Ken and Youji standing there like morons, her arms wrapped possessively around the young, crying boy.

"My cheek is not your slapping field," Crawford informed her, adjusting his glasses.
She glared at him, and pointed to Omi. "He had a breakdown after I used force on him. After you get home, I want you to see what they went through. I want you and Schuldig to realize why SZ calls me their weapon."
The American raised an eyebrow at her, the world deciding to go on a bit of a trip under him. "I see. Schuldig and I will go relieve Nagi of Farfarello watch. I doubt that you will have much trouble tonight." He left her, followed by Schuldig, after that little speech.
"No," she whispered at his departure. "Not with them. With my damned nightmares..." Michiel glanced down at Omi, who was holding his head in receding pain. "Omi, do you need anything?"
"Why?" he whispered, opening his eyes a crack. "Why didn't you finish the mission?"
She sat next to the couch he was on, her hands anchored to her lap. "It would have been suicide," Michiel said bluntly. "I didn't know what abilities they have. To set their gifts off early when I don't know what they are... it wouldn't have been the smartest thing to do."
"Gift." Omi swallowed a moan. "Some gift. I can't even use this properly."
Michiel watched him for a moment. "Nagi's running through your mind," she said softly. "You're almost shouting it at me. Do you want me to go get him? Would... that make it better?" She used the small table to give herself leverage to get up, and brushed her hand over a cell phone. "Huh. Wouldn't you know." She raised it to her face, and studied it for a moment. "Now... how would I..."
The phone rang, making her jump. "Aye yai yai," she breathed. Quickly, she pushed a button, and raised it to her ear. "I'm betting that this is either Crawford or Schuldig."
"Do you really thing Schuldig would answer a phone?" Crawford asked, his voice sounding tinny over the cell phone. "I'm sending Nagi over." And he hung up.
"Typical," she muttered. "Well, lucky boy, the Schwarz pre-cog is sending Nagi over. How does that sound?"
"Like a dream," Omi told her sarcastically. "Can you do something really radical and shut up for once?"
