It had all started about a week ago. Aya was grumpy, as always, and Yoji was touchy-feely, of course. It was a regular morning for the two of them. Yoji pounced, Aya growled, Yoji pet, Aya bit. It was more of a little game of theirs than actual agitation from either. It ended up with the two of them in the shower longer than necessary and Aya late for his shift, again.

Since Yoji had nothing to do for the day he snuck out of the house and went on the hunt for presents. Christmas was coming up and even though it wasn't their holiday, Omi had almost shit kittens when he'd found out that Aya hadn't celebrated any holiday since he was with his family. So the group of them, that is Omi, Ken, and Yoji, had decided to celebrate a western style Christmas. When Ken and Yoji had hauled in the tree, tinsel, ornaments, wrapping paper, and other décor, Aya's eye had begun to twitch. He got used to the idea though, and the smell of pine was a nice change from over powering flowers and catnip.

Yoji wanted to make it the best celebration that Aya had ever had. He wanted it to be memorable, the one that stuck out in his mind. Which meant he had to find the perfect gift. Something nice, yes, tasteful, of course, and most of all, something Aya had never received before. It was going to take a lot of thought and a lot of effort since they all had enough money to buy anything cheaper than Tokyo itself. So Yoji put his detective skills into play, letting Ken and Omi in on his plan so that they could cover his shifts, spending all his free time on his new mission: find the perfect gift.

Well that plan was all fine and nice, really. It could have worked out perfectly, if only his gift could have been something less. If he could have settled for something else, all his current problems would be nonexistent. But nooooo…being Yoji The Greatâ„¢, he just had to have it, and it, of course, had to come at a price to him. Not a large one, mind you, nor a difficult one, it just made him feel bad. If he would have thought about it more he may have even come up with a different approach, but he didn't.

And all this was why he had ended up laying in the middle of the snowy street, not being able to move. It was all surreal to him, everything being white, the perfect snowflakes falling down around him, not being able to hear the noise around him. Any spectator would tell you differently. The scene was not surreal and beautiful, but bloody and macabre, as Yoji lay there in the snow, waiting for help, waiting for the snow to stop turning red, just waiting…thinking about Aya's gift.
