Warning: : … : Ken's thoughts
/…/ Schuldich's thoughts
Mustn't kill Yohji, must not kill Yohji…Ken's mind ran complete circles with that endless mantra as he resisted throwing a nearby object at his nearby worker in the flowershop.
Or at least his supposed nearby worker.
For some reason not clear to Ken, Yohji had decided to light one of his cancer sticks inside the flowershop with the excuse that neither Aya or any customers had been within the shop for at least an hour. He was lounging at the front register with the before mentioned cancer stick dangling from between his lips, cropped shirt ridding high and hip hugging pants revealing toned stomach muscles after conveniently losing his apron fifteen minutes ago.
Ken thought Yohji had a deathwish for going against Aya's demands for no cigarette smoke in the store, but hey, he wasn't the one tempting fate. As long as Ken wasn't bothered from his work…
"Hey Kenken!"
Okay, he was done repressing the urge to throw something at Yohji.
Yohji barely manages to dodge the washcloth Ken had been using the clean up a determined smudge on the front window of the store.
"Try to be nice to you and I get this! Unbelievable, Kenken!"
"Don't…call…me…Kenken!," Was all Ken managed to get out before Yohji retaliated and flung the same cloth previously aimed at his head.
Ken yelped when the cloth hit him right in the face, managing to stick onto his face. Ken pulled the cloth off of his face and threw it into the corner of the store in irritation.
"Ha! The master is at work today!" Yohji preened.
"Master of laziness and datebook to rival all of Tokyo?"
"Watch it, Kenken."
"What do you want anyway, Yohji?"
"The Iceberg wants you to pick up some stuff from the store. We need some more violets."
Ken winced, clearly remembering the astonishing amount of violets that had just been purchased recently. The store was all out again!? "Why can't Aya or Omi get them?"
"Genius. Omi is still at school, and you know what the Iceberg would say if I asked him to go run a chore that he handed to me personally."
Ken couldn't resist a grimace at the thought of the glare that one would receive from their leader and Yohji's nickname for their leader.
"Yohji…" Just as Ken was going to warn him about the nickname, Fate seemed to not be playing on fair ground for the playboy.
"Hmm?" Yohji grunted intelligently, his cigarette dangling dangerously from the edge of his bottom lip.
"Um…" Ken stammered, just catching sight of their leader from the open storeroom door, clearly catching the glare as Aya focused on Yohji's lazing figure.
As if sensing the gaze burning into the back of his head, Yohji spun around to face the onslaught of their leader. He paled visibly while somehow managing to keep his cigarette from dropping into his lap while he gaped like a fish on dry land.
"Aya, what are you doing here?!"
Aya took in Yohji's cigarette and lazing form before muttering, "Yohji no baka…"
Ken ran out of the store to go retrieve to required violets, not really wanting to witness the chaos about to take place. He wasn't disappointed by the sudden shouting taking place behind, Yohji's cursing at Ken for abandoning him to the mercy of their leader.
Now, Ken was usually a kind and sympathetic person towards most people he knew. But all that disappeared when he was about to be faced with a possible `Shine!' courtesy of the leader of Weiss.
:Not like Yohji won't be paying me back for not warning him sooner about Aya standing behind him: Ken thought, walking steadily down the street to the store that was located only about a mile from the store. He never minded the walk itself, it was actually quite nice. The buildings and shops were kept surprisingly clean and one usually didn't have to worry about becoming roadkill when crossing the crosswalks. The only problem Ken had was with the alleyways at several places that made him nervous. Ken had never had a bad instant in passing them, but every time he had to walk by he wished he had remembered to carry his bugnuks.
:As if Aya would let me out of the store with them on outside of a mission. I'd like to see how long that would last:
As he entered the store the pick of the violets, he suddenly recalled Omi mentioning the day before the sad state of the lilies. After locating and bringing the violets up to the front register, Ken made sure to check out the lilies.
He wasn't disappointed by the selection. The lilies appeared to be well taken care of and ranged from a variety of pleasant colors. He'd have to remember to mention it to Omi in case to youngest member of Weiss wanted to come to the store personally to check out which lilies he wanted exactly.
Once the selection of violets were purchased the assistant behind the register offered to bring the violets to the Koneko personally. Ken thanked her for the nice thought, having not really looked forward to the thought of carrying the violets back with the store scooter.
The woman laughed, winking at Ken through long dark bangs. "It isn't that big of a deal, I walk home in that direction after work. Besides, after all the coaching you've done with Miko-chan, it's the least I can do."
Ken laughed, remembering the little girl on his soccer team that he had taken extra time to coach since she had had a hard time keeping up with the bigger kids during their soccer games.
"See you later, Ken-san!" She shouted after him as he passed through the door. Ken waved back as he passed by the glass store window, smiling his gratitude.
:That was fairly easy. I'll just remind Omi and Aya of the drop-off so that they won't be surprised during their shift. Can't forget those lilies either:
/My, my, the little kitten has so much going on./
Ken froze, clearly hearing the accented voice ringing in his head. He stopped dead in his tracks.
"Schuldich!" He growled, surprise, anger, and a hint of fear rushing through his mind as he tried to figure out where his opponent was and the nearest exit. A sick feeling weighed in his stomach as he realized he was the only person within sight in both directions of the street. As casually as possible he continued walking, trying to appear as nonchalant as possible.
/Don't run away, the fun has only begun./
:Fun for who?:
A mental laugh was his only answer.
Ken tensed further, his eyes sweeping the streets and rooftops around him. Logically he knew he wouldn't make it to the Koneko even at a dead run. Where speed was concerned the telepath had him beat. And that was assuming he was alone.
"Shit." Ken cursed, deciding just to go for the hell of it and took off at a dead run. He raced down the streets, his feet barely touching the ground beneath him.
He barely managed to skid to a halt when Schuldich dropped down in front of his path, on twenty feet of distance separating them. Schuldich smiled at his stunned opponent, his green jacket fanning out around his lanky form.
Cursing rapidly Ken jumped back and darted down an alleyway to his right, attempting to gain some distance between him and Mastermind-
And ran straight into the arms of the Berserker.
Ken didn't bother holding back a scream of shock as he slammed headlong into the resident psycho of Schwarz. Farfarello barely budged when slammed into by the member of Weiss, while Ken bounced off his chest as if he had run into a wall. Only the arms wrapping suddenly around his torso kept him from ending up on the dirty pavement of the alleyway.
Not as if his previous position was any better. He was effectively trapped, his arms trapped between his body and Farfarello's. Without even a grunt of discomfort Farfarello lifted Ken off of his feet while keeping Ken fully against his chest.
Ken squirmed ineffectively, his forehead pressed the cool material of the Farfarello's shirt, feet dangling at least two inches off of the ground. He managed to turn his head at enough of an angle to glance into Farfarello's lone gold eye. The gold eye stared back at him in a flat stare, the grip around him tightening almost imperceptibly. Ken felt himself start to hyperventilate from the adrenaline and fear rushing through his body, his terror a bitter taste in his mouth.
"Calm." Farfarello breathed into his ear, his grip remaining firm yet not to the point of bruising. Surprisingly Ken felt his body go limp, the struggle seeming to fade out of his body.
"Get him into the car, Farfie." Schuldich called, opening the door to his red Porsche and pulling the passenger seat forward to make room for its passengers. As if he wasn't carrying an unwilling hostage Farfarello maneuvered himself and Ken into the backseat without managing to hit any various limb. Farfarello situated himself across the length of the backseat, placing Ken between his long legs and his back against his chest while resting his own back against the small tinted window behind him.
Ken felt as if he was floating weightless, even though he knew he should be struggling against the position he was in, especially when Farfarello grasped Ken's limp wrists within his pale scarred hands and tightened his legs around Ken's still form.
"Brad saw that this would happen." Schuldich said as he got into the driver's seat after fixing the passenger seat and closing the car door on that side.
:The Oracle…: Ken thought numbly, having a hard time trying to accept the position he was in, trapped in the arms of the Berserker and in the back seat of Mastermind's car. He vaguely heard a child-like voice in the back of his mind calling out for his comrades, pleading for them to find him and pull him out of this sudden nightmare.
Schuldich seemed not to catch that thought and smirked at Ken, long strands of fire-colored hair teasing its way out of the bandana wrapped around his head.
"Brad saw how the physical presence of Farfarello would seem to calm you down. He thought that would make everything easier, especially with the case of how your powers will react when awakened." Schuldich frowned slightly, turning away from both passengers and started up the car. "I can see how someone of your ability could handle being around a telepath like me, but Farfarello…that's a mystery."
Ken wasn't able to form a physical or mental response because in that instant Farfarello rested a pale hand over his forehead and pulled his head back to rest against a broad shoulder.
Everything dimmed around him save for the steady thrum nestled behind him and the sensation of flying.
