Weiss Kreuz Fan Fiction ❯ Roses ❯ Part 10 ( Chapter 10 )
Ok, I've never written an ending before, this was my first, so I hope I don't disappoint anyone. Obviously, I've skipped over the restaurant scene. As much I want to write it (Thanks for the idea, Fluffybunnies!) I have no time at the moment. First, I have to write about three essays, all due next week, and then I'll be gone the entire weekend afterwards. Maybe I'll have time when summer break gets here.

It was eleven-fifteen and Lena was considering turning out the light early. Her book was in the midst of a slow part, and there was nothing else to do. Sleep seemed like the best option. Besides, she had school tomorrow and was tired from all the major events that had taken place that day. Very major events. The kind that altered lives for the better and left you wondering what your immediate future held.
The soft knock came right as her fingers reached the switch on her bedside lamp. No one knocked on her door this late at night unless she had a mission. She didn't want a mission to ruin her good mood. For all of two seconds she considered feigning sleep so that the person would go away, but then she remembered what Ken and Yohji had told her on her birthday. If she didn't take the mission, Aya would.
"Come in."
She was surprised to see the red-haired man slip into the shadowed room and shut the door behind him. He'd gone to bed an hour ago, so what was he doing up there.
Vivid eyes studied her in the dimly lit room. "Hey, what's wrong?" Obviously she'd let her worry about the possible mission show on her face.
"You . . . you're not here to tell me I've got an assignment, are you?"
"No, I just wanted to talk to you for a few minutes."
"Oh, are //you// alright?" He didn't look alright. He looked tired and his violet eyes were a bit bloodshot. His skin also seemed a little paler than usual.
"Yeah, can't sleep. You don't mind humoring me for fifteen minutes, do you?"
"No, but don't you take sleeping pills?" She sat up in the nest of blankets, wrapping her arms around herself in an attempt to stay warm in the cool room. Aya had moved in to sit on the trunk at the foot of her bed, bending one leg--clad in baggy pajama pants--up to rest his arms on.
"Yeah, but they don't always work. Lately they've been becoming addictive, so I'm having to back off on them. Don't worry about it."
"Usually when a person can't sleep more than an hour a night, there's good cause for worry. What do you do when they don't work?"
He shrugged bare shoulders, stretching the flimsy white undershirt he wore as his muscles bunched. "Read, or just lie there."
"What about--" A huge yawn cut her off.
"You should go to bed. See you tomorrow, Lena." He was halfway to the door before the yawn passed and she could speak again.
"Wait. I can't just send you away knowing you're going to be lying on your bed, bored out of your mind."
He walked back, leaned over to plant a soft kiss on her cheek and whispered, "Good night, koi."
When he tried to pull back up to leave, she caught the front of his shirt and jerked down, catching him off balance. Sable darted to the other side before the man crushed her. The bed springs protested and Aya gave a small grunt of surprise, but then everything was quiet.
Violet eyes looked up at her, vaguely confused. "Uh, Lena?"
"Stay?" All emotion fled from his features but affection.
"Alright." A moment of squirming and they were both under the covers, lying back on the pillows with the lights out and soft music emanating from her CD player. Sable had decided the pillows were safer than the blankets, and had curled up beside Lena's head.
Aya had turned onto his side, holding the girl tightly against his chest and brushed soft kisses over the back of her neck. She sighed contently and let sleep flood her thoughts with its hazy void.

Six-thirty. The alarm went off, but the song was surprisingly different than the ones she'd been waking to every morning for the past month. The radio station had started a new cycle. She reached out and cut off the music, but before she could reach the light, a strong arm caught her and trapped her limbs to the muscular body behind her.
"I have school. I have to get up," she told him drowsily, trying to detach herself with half-hearted attempts.
"Don't leave." The voice was low and pleading, so unlike what she was used to hearing.
"Have to. It's Monday."
"Tell `em you're sick. Please?" The caress of a warm breath on her neck woke her a little more.
"I can't, Aya. I have to go take a shower. Let me go." If she didn't get away soon, her whole schedule would be off.
"Lena, just go a day without planning. Forget about school and missions and work. Stay with me."
The very thought would have been cause enough for a mental breakdown not too long ago. Now, it didn't seem so inconceivable. Why //couldn't// she take a day out of her schedules and perfect planning to relax with Aya? Other people did it all the time. Why not her? Her routine would still be there for her tomorrow, but today . . . today it could be put off. Today she would spend with Aya and Sable, tucked away from the rest of the world.
With Aya, she didn't have to wear the mask of a happy teenager. She was allowed to forget her real job of thieving and murdering. Not even her lonely past could penetrate her shielded thoughts with the man's strong arms holding her in their protective embrace.
With Aya, she didn't need her routine. She could just relax . . . and finally be herself.
The End.

In my opinion, that ending was pretty lame, but hey, I'm still proud of myself for finishing it. Hope you enjoyed it.
