Teddy Bears and Darts chapter 4
I was so wrapped up in my insane drama that I didn’t hear the delivery scooter pull up beside me. Ken had to tap my shoulder to bring me crashing back to earth. He managed to scare the bejeeses out of me.
"Sorry Omi, didn’t mean to scare you. Where’s Aya, wasn’t he supposed to give you a ride home?" Ken sounded concerned.
"I told him I was going to take the bus, all he said was ‘Hn’. I can’t begin to tell you how much I’m beginning to hate that response. Besides I had figured he was gone already and didn’t bother looking for his car in the parking lot."
"He hasn’t back to the shop since I left for the late deliveries at 6. Come on, it’s raining, I’ll give you a ride home. You feeling ok? You look horrible. Come on, we’re going to get you home." What was it about friends that they can insult you and help you at the same time? Despite that, I was grateful for Ken. My best friend and he didn’t even realize it.
"Thanks Ken," I said weakly as I climbed in. I was willing to bet I looked as bad as i felt and it had nothing to do with the child I now knew I carried.
I was silent on the return trip to the shop and our home. I was praying that there wouldn’t be a mission soon seeing as I would have a hard time getting out of it. With out explaning my current situation, that is.

Ran didn’t return for close to an hour after Ken dropped me off at the shop. The time to myself, as Yohji was in the shop working and Ken was finishing his deliveries, gave me the time I needed to go over the files Dr. Hendel had given me.
As Dr. Hendel had told me, I was one of two surviving test subjects. The other child suffered from severe trauma at a young age when he was found beaten nearly to death a few hours after he should have returned from school. The child "lost" the experiment and died six days after being released from the hospital.
That was the story of the other infant. Dr. Hendel assumed that stress like that I was reported to have gone through and the fact that I wasn’t rescued or ransomed, meant that i had died.
The experiement results tended to be surprise many of the test subjects. They had no knowledge of such events that allowed them to conceive. Several had gone on to have families with their lifemates, others had been kidnapped and more experiments had been run. Others still had been found dead.
Dr. Hendel had been infuriated when all the deaths and kidnappings had begun. He slowly began placing people loyal to him in different positions all over the operation. Those people served as guides in helping the prisoners escape. He was smart enough to make it look like he had been phased out of the operation when his views didn’t meet with those of the organization.
Dr. Hendel gave names dates and extensive information. Any one who had anything to do with this operation wouldn’t be able to weasel their way out of the consequences, not even Dr. Hendel. He had told me that I was to do as I saw fit with the information, after I got what I needed. I could give it to the police for all he cared, he just wanted this all to come to an end. The only thing he asked for was fair warning so he could pull his people out.
Along with paper copies of information, the file included a detailed video disc of the procedure used on the children.. Everything was documented, right down to the materials needed, the doctors on call, etc.
I now had a long list to research and I was pissed. Most of the children never made it to puberty. Complications cut them down before the doctors could find out just how successful they were. Many of the ones to survive, being pregnant or not, had been kidnapped to resume testing. Most of them had already died. There were several who died after baby’s birth. There were a few that had survived a couple of live births and their children were fine and healthy as well. Surprisingly enough, the babies had a high survival rate, despite the fact that the "mother" didn’t, and those that didn’t survive usually died before the end of the first month.
I was interrupted by a knock at my door. "Mission," was all Ran said before he left. Just my shitty luck would have it. Gggrreeaattt.
Manx and the other guys were waiting on me when I got to the basement. She had folders in her hands and a sad expression on her lovely face. Without delay, she popped in the video. Persia came on and started immediately into the mission. "Men of Weiß, you have a new mission. Your target is the Dr. Helsberg. He has been linked to the deaths, murders, of several young men and women. He believes hat he is committing mercy killings as almost every patient had been diagnosed with an incurable cancer. Your primary target is Dr. Helsberg and the secondary target is the administrator of the hospital, Dr. Rosen. Deny these evil beasts their tomorrows." The screen flicked off as the tape ended.
"Are you all in?" Manx asked with out preamble.
"No, " Ran surprised all of us, he never turned down a mission. "Omi stays here," he threw me a steely look as if challenging me to argue. I wasn’t stupid, please give me more credit then that. Arguing with Ran was like trying to walk through a brick wall, nothing gets through.
"Fine," Appearently Manx wasn’t going to argue either. "What about the rest of you?"
Yohji got this strange smile as he agreed. Ken and Ran both just nodded their heads.
