Part 5:
THE KONEKO
Ken let out another groan as yet another school girl proceeded to clomp on to him rambling on about something. The shop was at its busiest right now. School had just let out which meant all the girls were packed in the shop. Yohji was putting on his best flirting face and talking up as many girls as he could. Omi was struggling behind the cash resister, trying to ring up the real orders and deal with all the girls trying to talk to him at the same time. Aya was doing little more then standing off in a corner sweeping the same spot, simply because he couldn’t move anywhere else, and every five seconds yelling out, 'IF YOUR NOT BUYING ANYTHING LEAVE!'. That line had become the mans catch phrase ever since they had taken down Takatori and the line 'SHINE TAKATORI!' no longer worked. Though at the moment, this line wasn't working either. Ken seriously wished that Kaeri would just haul her ass out here and help them. Sure, she was making the arrangements in the back, and that did help some, but it wasn't enough. Ken knew that if she just hoped out of the back for five minutes though half the damn girls would leave just because of that. Their pee-brained minds assuming that she was with one of them. Ken also knew that that was probably more of a reason Kaeri stayed in the back then the whole, 'Schwartz might she her' thing. She had been with them for almost a month now, and the only expression he had seen on her face besides the indifference she always carried was that smile of hers. And that only came after a day like today when she was helping their tired asses clean up.A Weiss Fan-Fic by Jepardy

Part 5:
THE KONEKO
Suddenly, almost as if she had been reading him, the door to the back burst open and Kaeri came tearing out of there. She ran out in to the shop at top speed, causing everyone to stop and give her a questioning look. For a second he thought she might actually help them. That thought faded away very fast though as she continued to run right out of the shop in almost a blind rage. She stopped only long enough on the sidewalk to pull her 9mm. out of its hidden holster at her back and then took off down the sidewalk. Scaring the shit out of anyone who came within ten feet of her. The three flower boys exchanged looks, Yohji was still staring after Kaeri. The only thing that finally popped him out of his trance was all of the commotion that the girls were causing, asking about Kaeri and why she had a gun.
It took the guys nearly till closing before they had got their stories straight and convinced the girls that it was nothing. The gun was a squirt gun, the girl was an old friend of there’s who was staying a few weeks, and that she did that because she had seen another old friend on the street, and decided to trick him. Surprisingly the girls all bought it. Proving just how completely dense they really were. Just after they closed up, Kaeri came walking back in. Her mask cracking enough to show the true emotion of anger in clear view across her face. Her jeans her now ripped in both knees and coated in mud from the shins down. Her orange t-shirt was hanging off her shoulder slightly from where it too was ripped at the collar. The purple and green daisies that were on the front of it were the only things that were left clean on her. The woman really had a thing for those flowers. All of her clothes had daisies on them somewhere, and even her best arrangements were with them. She strode in and started straight up the stairs to the apartments. The only thing that stopped her was the simple fact that there was one person who at the moment looked nearly as pissed as she did, if not more so. Aya. He semi cornered her down in the space between the stairs and the wall.
“Just what the hell do you think your doing?” he all but screamed at her. In the brutal face of Aya’s rage, most people would cower away, or at least shake a little under his icy death glare. Kaeri though did no such thing. Instead she just stared back at him from under her cloud of bangs.
“He was close. I missed him again. Now I think I’m going for a shower.” she told him, and made to move past him to the stairs. Again he blocked her.
“You just take off from here with guns blazing when ever you fucking feel like it!” Aya was pissed. The man didn’t hardly speak, much less swear. Doing a lot of both was a sure sign that you were in trouble. And a sign to keep his katana away from him if you wanted to stay in one piece. Kaeri though simply stared back at him.
“Until I finally get what I came for, yes. I’m more like you then you think. We both took this job for the same reasons. And I’m not done yet.” she told him, her own icy demeanor showing through. And her anger flowing a little too openly out as well. Which was only fueling Aya’s temper. Kaeri moved again to the stairs. Before Aya had the chance to take the pruning shears to her in lack of his katana, Yohji stepped in.
“Let her cool off. And do the same yourself. I’ll talk to her.” he calmly explained to his red haired boyfriend. Aya wasn’t happy about it, but still let it go, for now at least. The girl’s last words echoed in his head. And he knew that if she was serious about what she said, it wasn’t going to be good for them.
*~*~*
It was two hours latter when Yohji made it up to the roof. He knew that’s where she had gone. But he also figured she’d want some time to her self. If not so much to cool down, then simply to get herself back under control. She was still wearing the same clothes, and now Yohji’s jacket once again in a long line of borrowing it, to starve off the cold air. Her hair now on top of being muddy, was wind blown. She was leaning on the edge, simply watching the people and taking long drags on a cigarette. And by the pile at her feet, Yohji guessed he might have met someone that actually out did his habit.“It’s cold out here.” he said simply as he took his spot next to her and accepted the cigarette that she offered him.
“Not to me.” her mask was back in place, and it showed through in even her voice.
“If you pulled your hair back, it wouldn’t get in your face so much.” He remarked.
“I like it that way.” Yohji just nodded his agreement. The sun was just beginning to set and the streetlights were coming on.
“I always liked sunsets. Is that why you’re out here too?” he asked. Hoping to get a conversation started.
“No. Hate them. And Sunrises. Too many people.” she still hadn’t moved to look at him, or show any emotion. But Yohji was getting used to it after all this time. He knew she wasn’t being rude, she just didn’t know any other way without losing herself to others.
“What do you mean?” he asked.
“At sunrise the world is filled with people who are waking up and putting on the attitude that they love their life, their job, and everything about the world. Inside they hate all of it and themselves. At sunset a new crowed of people are waking up. Ones who put on the attitude of hating life, their addictions, and everything about the world. And inside, they like how they are. It gets confusing, and overwhelming.” she finally turned to look at him. Hair being tossed about so that it completely covered her face. Yohji didn’t mind though, he still had a hard time looking in to her dead eyes. It unnerved him.
“You don’t talk much do you?” he asked. Though it was really more of a statement based on observations from the last month.
“Actually, I normally talk too much. Or I did at least. I used to be told I give people headaches. I just don’t really ever have anyone to talk to now. Or I didn’t till you.” She said, giving her own smile to him. He was one of the few that could say he seen it on a regular biases.
“You have a sweet smile. You should use it more. It makes your whole face change. You lose that mask you always wear.” he told her. And for once he meant it. It wasn’t just a line to convince someone to sleep with him.
“I used to hear that a lot too.” she said, again looking back out over the city.
“From who?”
“Can’t remember anymore.” she sighed in reply. Yohji offered her one of his cigarettes this time around as they both just stood there and watched the city come to life under the neon lights.
“Can I ask you a question?” Yohji finally broke the silence.
“You already did. But I guess you can another.” she told him, again smiling.
“You said your name wasn’t Japanese when you first got here. But it doesn’t sound American either. Just what is it?” he asked. Kaeri took another long drag and sighed before turning again to face him and answer.
“It’s German. I lived in Germany with my mom for a long time. Its short for Kaeryn.” she told him.
“How’d you end up in all of this then?” Yohji took advantage of her openness in hopes of finding out some more about her. Even in the month they had spent together, she never talked about herself. So for the most part, Yohji knew just about as much about her now as he did on her first day there.
“The day I discovered I was an empath was when I was shot. I was left for dead, but my powers bloomed and I fed off of others strengths, and more then anything the hate I had for the man that shot me, and his hate for me. I wanted revenge. I somehow bumped in to Kritiker…”
“That’s right, they’re based there. I forgot that.” Yohji interrupted.
“Yeah, and they taught me to use my powers, and get them under control for the most part. I asked to be moved to America. The guy who had shot me was American.” she stopped then. Yohji wasn’t sure if she was done or not, but when it looked like she wasn’t going any farther on her own, he again prompted her.
“So why come to Japan?”
“Cause I latter found out that the guy was working with Esstet. And that he had been transferred here before all that final shit went down. When the chance came up to come here, I took it. And now I know I was right. I can feel him still. I guess part of me is still feeding off of him. I know when he’s close.” she finished then. Having nothing more to say.
“All this for revenge for being shot. Damn, I’m glad I’m not like you. I’d be after a lot of people by now.” he joked.
“No, it wasn’t all just cause he shot me. He took something from me too.” she said, lighting up again and turning away once more.
“What?” Yohji questioned.
“Don’t know anymore.”
“I don’t understand.” Yohji stared at her in total confusion.
“Whatever it was was something good, to me at least. And I knew for a long time what it was. But after so long of feeding from negative emotions, all they do is feed the hate and anger, and the good stuff gets lost.” she then turned and started heading back in to the building. The sun had long since set, and she was out of cigarettes.
“Sorry.” Yohji whispered out, not knowing what else to say.
“Don’t be. All I know is that I want to see him dead before I have to kill your telepath problem. And once he‘s dead, I might just remember what it was that he took.” she told him over her shoulder as she went inside. Leaving Yohji to contemplate her sad words alone.
