Chapter Sixteen- Direction
Light streamed full force through the window, heralding the start of a brand new day. The bright morning sun called everyone in Tokyo to roust out of their beds, to jump up to face the day under it’s hot rays. Dawn was a time of awakening.Robin awoke to the sounds of birds chirping outside, and could see the light of morning even through her tightly closed eyelids as she layed there. Her mind was telling her it was time to wake, yet her body just wanted to stay right where she was, as she was enveloped in the large and strong arms of the one she loved.
She opened her eyes, and the first thing she saw was the sleeping form of Amon. He was laying facing her, his arms still clasped around her even in his sleep. The events of the night before came back to her, and she could not help herself but smile.
“ Was that all just a dream?” She asked herself, her eyes looking over every inch of the sleeping man’s face.
She moved a little and lifted the covers a and peered under, wanting to see if the dream was actually real. It was confirmed to being not a wonderful dream, as he was in the bed with her as naked as she was under the sheets. She smiled, as the pleasurable thoughts and feelings of the night before were very vivid. She peeked at him one more time, now she really did not want to get out of bed, she thought to herself.
Amon’s eyes opened slowly and he looked right at her. She felt herself getting a little giddy, as his eyes held hers.
“ Good morning.” He said, pulling her close into himself and kissing her on the forehead.
“ Morning to you too.” She said with a beaming smile, as the man looked at her with the same loving look as she had saw late last night.
“ Are you alright this morning?” He asked.
“ Never better...” She said, almost singing her answer as he kissed her again on the forehead.
She returned the favor, by kissing him right on the lips. He just chuckled happily, then kissed her back, hugging her tightly against himself. Without anything more said, the both of them stayed there in the quiet of their room, listening to the awakening city outside the motel walls. Neither one of them wanted to move from where they were, cuddling in to one another and taking in the beauty that was what they had.
Over an hour later, they finally decided to get up... but not until they had made love a second time, more passionately than the night before. Not in any real hurry this morning, both of them just got up and started their day leisurely. Their breakfast had been delivered to them a little while ago by the small restaurant that was in the motel’s complex main building and just ate together lazily.
Amon was laying back in the bed, a quite thick file folder laid open in his lap. The man had been reading what was inside for quite a while, now with his eyes a little tired, he looked up to give them a little break from the small print of the pages.
He saw Robin was standing in front of the television, using the remote to flip through the channels vacantly as she looked for something to watch. She was standing there dressed only in his discarded shirt from the night before. Standing right in front of the television, the light from the screen shone through the shirts fabric and showed him what he already knew... that the shirt was the only thing she had on. He eyed Robin’s lean body that was silhouetted through the clothing, her long sleek curves and full breasts were very pleasing to him. He smiled, he contemplated pulling her back on the bed and making love to her again.
Reluctantly returning to the file folder he had, Amon just knew that they had to get on this case, before more killers would be dispatched rather than making love. He knew that whoever was behind it all, would not stop. His urges would have to wait until a while later, he told himself. Sighing deeply, he began to look over the investigation reports, trying to find that single thread that would lead them to who ever wanted Robin dead.
He felt the importance of doing all this. He had lost Robin once before when the Factory had fallen... he was not going to let that happen ever again. With renewed determination, the man dove back into the sea of information held in the folder, to find what ever has been overlooked by them up to know..
The man set to work, reading over every piece for over two hours more while Robin busied herself with watching a television show on modern technology while sipping away on a large cup of coffee. He searched every page in the folder many times over with his usual meticulousness, but he soon realized that he was getting nowhere fast.... as nothing seemed to be jumping out again. He snuffed and started all over again.
Finally putting aside the folder on the bed for awhile, the man got up and walked over to the table, pulling on his pants while he did so. He lit himself a smoke and sat down in the chair, feeling the frustration inside of coming with the clear fact that he had found nothing that would even be close to helpful.
“ What the hell am I missing here?” He asked himself, as every piece of information swirled in his head.. He took a drag of his smoke, as he was coming up empty with this.
As he sat there, pondering everything with the detail, he heard a gasp from just across the room. He looked up and saw the girl hurrying over in his direction with a odd look on her smooth face. He wondered what had elicited this reaction from the girl, and sat up straighter in his chair as she neared him.
The girl did not go over to him, but she raced past him and flew around the bed. He watched as she snatched up the folder he had been reading off of the bed. She began to flipping pages like a madwoman, reading over the pages at break neck speed as she furiously seemed to be searching for something
“ What are you doing?” He asked, curious at just what the young crafter was doing.
“ I will explain as soon as I find what I am looking for....” She said in a rushed voice, while she rifled through the pages like someone possessed. “ Where is it... I know it’s in here.”
The girl suddenly stopped near the back of the folder and read over that particular page. Amon watched with great interest as she seemed to be reading the page over and over again. He stood up and decided to investigate a little more, as the girl seemed to be very intent on what she was reading.
She turned to the man as he neared, a large smile was on her face..
“ This entry in the report says that each of the Assassins had a cell phone in their possession, and each had the same number on in the memory display that called them?” She asked, her eyes looking at his with a franticness.
“ Yes, SOLOMON has concluded that the number that had called them was probably one of those temporary cells you can get, and they are not tracked like other cells since they have only the time payed for... No contract time so they do not have to give their names or anything... and use no GPS technology in them as well. They are used primarily by those who want to keep their criminal enterprises hidden.” Said the man, explaining what he knew about it. “ Karasuma is trying to gather more information on different throw away cell companies while we need to lay low.”
The girl turned to face the man more fully, her face showing a there was something big in her mind.
“ I was just watching that show about modern everyday technology and how it is used, and that show was on cell phones.” She explained, almost too excitedly as she seemed to talk really fast. ” I think I might have gotten an idea on just how to make our investigation get some leads out of these ‘throw away cells’ SOLOMON says that are virtually untraceable.”
“ You do?” Amon asked, intrigued with what the girl might have came up with. “ This I need to hear.”
“ Hear me out before you say anything..” She said, her face showing her intensity.
The girl took a seat on the bed, Amon did the same right next to her. Looking up into the man’s eyes, she began to lay out just what she was thinking on
“ A cell phone signal comes through a transmitter when a call is made, a transmitter-receiver that is with the company or one that is for public usage... right?” She asked, getting her facts straight as she talked.
“ That is how I understand that it works... but I also know that to track that signal we need to have access to the cell company’s computer identify the cell being used... and because it is a ‘throw away’, normally there is no account information.”
“ Even if there is no records for a specific account, if these calls are all coming in and out to the assassins... it is the same number so it has to go through a specific tower every time even though it may bounce through many other ones to disguise it...” She said, then smiled. “ All calls are time stamped digitally... does that not mean that if we can identify the time that call had bee put through, we could use thee time stamp on the signal to get the time the first signal hits the first tower, it can tell us what area of the city it was placed from, because don’t throw away phones need to use a specific frequency to be used?
The man thought about it for a moment, as he saw her the information she was reasoning out seemed to be quite sound.
“ Even if it does come up like that, and we do get an area of the city located, what will that get us?”
“ Easy...” Started the girl, with a smile. “ We know by the large sums of foreign money being payed out, the person or people that have the contract out on me are very wealthy... by pinpointing the area, and the fact that it is such a huge sum of money put out... the area might lead us to them. By cross referencing wealthy people and big businesses in the area of that cellphone tower.”
Amon just looked at the girl and smiled, as he began to really understand what the girl was thinking about.
“ That just might narrow down the field, so it would be manageable for us to seriously check them all out.” He said, after mulling it all over for a time.
“ Could Michael do this type of checking on the cell providers?” She asked of the man.
“ He has in the past done things like this hacking into the different cell providers and other companies...” Said Amon, rubbing his chin as the girl’s idea seemed to have legs. “ It might take him awhile to get access all of this, and to weed through it all for the one we are wanting....” He thought aloud. “ You know, this just might work, and Michael does love a challenge.”
The girl jumped up and looked at the man. She had a enthusiastic look on her face, as she finally felt not quite as helpless as she had been with all of this.
“ We should phone him up and get it started.” She said with great exhilaration, stepping towards the phone on the nightstand.
“ It may be better if we go down to the office and tell him exactly what your plan is....” Suggested Amon. “ That way, you can be there while he does this.”
“Am I not suppose to stay hidden? Should we go out of hiding for this.” Queried the girl.
“ This is more than just important to check on... I think we need to be there for this one, and I think the Chief would have to agree on that.” Said the man, after a short pause. “ We will be safe in the offices anyway, so what do you think?”
She paused for a moment, then her face broke out one very large smile that seemed to brighten the room.
“ Then lets hurry get down there....” She said, racing off to the bathroom where she had left her clothes what she had a bath the day before.
Amon just began to put on his sock and boots, while waiting for the girl to come out and return his shirt she had pilfered to wear this morning. He just smiled and lit one more smoke for himself, wile thinking on the girl’s deductions. It was brilliant, and he had to admit that. No wonder he loved her so.
With in ten very brief minutes, they were all dressed and out the door to get to the offices as fast as they could. Amon was not fully knowing if Robin’s idea would actually work, but he knew very well that this could be the turning point in this investigation for them to at least have something tangible to follow. With the lack of anything else that is concrete for leads, he was hoping that this could actually work out..
